Postoperative spinal epidural hematoma is a rare complication of anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. This condition may rapidly produce severe neurologic deficits, often requiring a prompt surgical decompression. A multilevel extension of the epidural bleeding has been rarely described after anterior cervical procedures. In such cases, the choice of the most suitable surgical approach may be challenging. Herein, we describe an effective surgical decompression of a C2-T1 ventral epidural hematoma following anterior cervical discectomy and fusion at the C5-C6 level. By reopening the previous approach, the C5-C6 intersomatic cage was removed and the surgical field inspected for bleeding. After removal of the spinal epidural hematoma at this level, a lumbar external drainage catheter was inserted into the epidural space to perform multiple irrigations with saline solution until the washing fluid was clear. Immediate postoperative cervical computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed gross total removal of the epidural hematoma and complete decompression of the spinal cord all along the affected tract. Early postoperative neurologic examination revealed mild lower extremity weakness that fully recovered within hours. Although rare, multilevel epidural hematoma following anterior cervical decompression represents a serious complication. The revision of the previous anterior cervical approach may be considered the first treatment option, allowing to control the primary bleeding site. Catheter irrigation of the epidural space with saline solution may be a useful technique for removal of unexposed residual blood collection, avoiding the need for posterior laminectomy or other unnecessary bone demolition. Pacific lamprey (Entosphenus tridentatus) are ecologically and culturally important anadromous animals native to the West Coast of the United States. Pacific lamprey populations are in decline, and contaminants may be a contributing factor. Between 2017 and 2021, three life stages of Pacific lamprey and collocated sediment samples were collected in Oregon (larval lamprey, sediment, and returning adult lamprey) and off the coast of Oregon and Washington (ocean juvenile lamprey). Tissue and sediment samples were analyzed for 56 organohalogenated compounds that included legacy pesticides, current use pesticides, polybrominated diphenyl ether congeners, and polychlorinated biphenyl congeners. Organohalogenated compounds were detected in all three Pacific lamprey life stages. The organohalogenated compounds detected in collocated sediment and larval lamprey samples were generally dissimilar, and compounds detected in larval lamprey indicate potential point sources along the rivers. Ocean-caught juvenile lamprey had significantly higher lipid contents than returning adult lamprey, but lipid content and concentrations of select compounds were not strongly correlated. Concentrations of select compounds detected in both ocean juvenile and returning adult lamprey were either not significantly different or were higher in returning adult lamprey. Concentrations of some compounds in returning adult lamprey—which are consumed by Indigenous peoples—exceeded state and national human health consumption thresholds. Collaboration among Tribes and public-sector agencies helped make this study successful. Background and Aims: Phenylalanine (Phe) restricted diet, combined with Phe-free l-amino acid supplementation, is the mainstay of treatment for phenylketonuria (PKU). Being the diet a key factor modulating gut microbiota composition, the aim of the present paper was to compare dietary intakes, gut microbiota biodiversity and short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) production in children with PKU, on low-Phe diet, and in children with mild hyperphenylalaninemia (MHP), on unrestricted diet.Methods and Results: We enrolled 21 PKU and 21 MHP children matched for gender, age and body mass index z-score. Dietary intakes, including glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL), and fecal microbiota analyses, by means of denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) and Real-time PCR were assessed. Fecal SCFAs were quantified by gas chromatographic analysis.Results: We observed an increased carbohydrate (% of total energy), fiber and vegetables intakes (g/day) in PKU compared with MHP children (p = 0.047), as well a higher daily GI and GL (maximum p < 0.001). Compared with MHP, PKU showed a lower degree of microbial diversity and a decrease in fecal butyrate content (p = 0.02). Accordingly, two of the most abundant butyrate-producing genera, Faecalibacterium spp. and Roseburia spp., were found significantly depleted in PKU children (p = 0.02 and p = 0.03, respectively).Conclusion: The low-Phe diet, characterized by a higher carbohydrate intake, increases GI and GL, resulting in a different quality of substrates for microbial fermentation. Further analyses, thoroughly evaluating microbial species altered by PKU diet are needed to better investigate gut microbiota in PKU children and to eventually pave the way for pre/probiotic supplementations. Background BK virus (BKV)-associated nephropathy (BKVAN) is often associated with renal graft dysfunction. When renal transplant recipients present with high clinical suspicion for BKVAN (high serum and urine BKV titer with graft dysfunction) but their graft biopsies stain negatively for BKV, non-correlated situations between the two tests often lead to a dilemma about how to treat them. Methods This retrospective investigation was conducted to determine how real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) for BKV, routinely applied to serum and urine, could be helpful in identifying the existing BKV in biopsy tissue stained negatively for BKV. Results DNA was extracted from each specimen through the use of five 10-μm curls from the tissue block with use of the QIAamp DNA FFPE Tissue Kit (Qiagen), followed by BKV qPCR to determine copies of BKV/μg of biopsy tissue DNA. Group 1 (11 negative renal controls for BKV) demonstrated 0 to 9 BKV copies/μg DNA. Except for 3 focally staining cases showing low BKV, the remaining 10 positive renal controls in group 2 (13 positive transplant biopsies staining positively) demonstrated elevated BKV up to 160 million copies/μg DNA. Group 3 transplants (13 uncertain transplants with negative BKV staining but positive liquid BKV) were negative for BKV (0–12 copies/μg) in 4 of 13, had low BKV copies (36–346 copies/μg) in 5 of 13, and had high BKV copies (17,240–526,945 copies/μg) in 4 of 13 cases, through the use of qPCR. Conclusions The data indicate that qPCR from paraffin-embedded tissue as a backup test is sensitive for ruling in/out BKV infection in renal transplant biopsies, particularly in uncertain cases. Purpose: To assess the clinical significance of temporal pole abnormalities (temporopolar blurring, TB, and temporopolar atrophy, TA) detected by using 3 Tesla MRI in the preoperative workup in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy due to hippocampal sclerosis (TLE-HS) who underwent surgery.Methods: We studied 78 consecutive patients with TLE-HS who underwent surgery and were followed up for at least 2 years. Based on findings of pre-surgical 3 Tesla MRI, patients were subdivided in subgroups according to the presence of TB or TA. Subgroups were compared on demographic, clinical, neuropsychological data and seizure outcome.Results: TB was found in 39 (50%) patients, while TA was found in 32 (41%) patients, always ipsilateral to HS, with a considerable degree of overlap (69%) between TB and TA (p=0.01). Patients with temporopolar abnormalities did not significantly differ from those without TB or TA with regard to sex, age, age of epilepsy onset, duration of epilepsy, history of febrile convulsions or birth complications, side of surgery, seizure frequency at surgery, presence of GTCSs, and, in particular, seizure outcome. On the other hand, TB patients show a less frequent family history of epilepsy (p<.05) while age at epilepsy onset showed a trend to be lower in the TB group (p=.09). Patients with temporopolar atrophy did not significantly differ from those without TA on any variable, except for age at epilepsy onset, which was significantly lower for the TA group (p<.05). History of birth complications and longer duration of epilepsy also showed a trend to be associated with TA (p=.08). Multivariate analysis corroborated the association between temporopolar abnormalities and absence of family history of epilepsy and history of birth complications.Conclusions: High-field 3 T MRI in the preoperative workup for epilepsy surgery confirms that temporopolar abnormalities are frequent findings in TLE-HS patients and may be helpful to lateralize the epileptogenic zone. Objective The α 2 agonist dexmedetomidine (DEX) is an anesthetic agent that can provide sedation and analgesia without respiratory depression or changes in neuronal activity during microrecordings. The aim of our study was to confirm the efficacy and safety of anesthesia with DEX for unilateral deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) in patients with Parkinson disease. Methods In 2013 and 2014, a series of 11 consecutive patients received continuous low-dose DEX infusion during unilateral deep brain stimulation of the STN. Intraoperative microrecordings, stimulation results, and patient reaction times in executing verbal and motor tasks were retrospectively analyzed. Functional outcomes were evaluated by comparing preoperative and 1-year postoperative Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale Part III scores. Results Typical activity of the STN was recorded in all patients, and the delay in the execution of both motor and verbal tasks was ≤2 seconds. No hemorrhagic complications occurred, and no postoperative side effects were observed. The mean percentage of Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale Part III improvement at last follow-up was 39.01% (range, 23.70%–55.60%). The mean percentage of levodopa equivalent dose reduction was 45.86% (range, 21.50%–65.70%). Conclusions The results of our study confirm that the use of DEX in managing patients with Parkinson disease during unilateral deep brain stimulation of the STN is safe and effective and can be considered a promising option for sedation during this type of procedure. Purpose: To assess the clinical significance of temporal pole abnormalities (temporopolar blurring, TB, and temporopolar atrophy, TA) in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) and hippocampal sclerosis (HS) with a long post-surgical follow-up.Methods: We studied 60 consecutive patients with TLE-HS and 1.5 preoperative MRI scans who underwent surgery and were followed up for at least 5 years (mean follow-up 7.3 years). Based on findings of pre-surgical MRI, patients were classified according to the presence of TB or TA. Groups were compared on demographic, clinical, neuropsychological data, and seizure outcome.Results: TB was found in 37 (62%) patients, while TA was found in 35 (58%) patients, always ipsilateral to HS, with a high degree of overlap (83%) between TB and TA (p<0.001). Patients with TB did not differ from those without TB with regard to history of febrile convulsions, GTCSs, age of epilepsy onset, side of surgery, seizure frequency, seizure outcome, and neuropsychological outcome. On the other hand, they were significantly older, had a longer duration of epilepsy, and displayed lower preoperative scores on several neuropsychological tests. Similar findings were observed for TA. Multivariate analysis corroborated the association between temporopolar abnormalities and age at onset, age at surgery (for TB only), and lower preoperative scores on some neuropsychological tests.Conclusions: Temporopolar abnormalities are frequent in patients with TLE-HS. Our data support the hypothesis that TB and TA are caused by seizure-related damages. These abnormalities did not influence seizure outcome, even after a long-term post-surgical follow-up. Staphylococcus aureus is a known major cause of foodborne illnesses, and raw milk and dairy products are often contaminated by enterotoxigenic and antimicrobial-resistant S. aureus strains. In the present study, 35 S. aureus strains were isolated from 383 raw milk samples collected from various dairy herds in the province of Milan (northern Italy). The isolates were characterized based on their antimicrobial susceptibility patterns and the presence of genes encoding staphylococcal enterotoxins (sea, seb, sec, sed, and see). About half (45.7%) of the strains were enterotoxigenic, and 37.1% were resistant to at least one of the antimicrobial drugs tested. Seven (20%) of 35 isolates were identified as methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), and SCC mec typing performed with a multiplex PCR assay revealed the presence of gene cassettes IV and V, typical of community-acquired MRSA, and I and II, characteristic of health care-associated MRSA. The MRSA strains were evaluated for the presence of the Panton-Valentine leukocidin gene, but this gene was not found. The results of the present study revealed the presence of toxin-producing S. aureus and MRSA strains in raw milk. MRSA and enterotoxigenic S. aureus in dairy farms are an important risk factor for the spread of staphylococcal infections; therefore, further studies are needed to find strategies for monitoring and controlling the presence of S. aureus, especially MRSA, in dairy products. Abstract: Background: Various types of self-expandable metal stents have been introduced for the palliation of malignant biliary obstruction. Aims: To compare the outcomes of WallFlex™ and Wallstent™ uncovered biliary self-expandable metal stents (SEMSs) for the palliation of patients with malignant biliary obstruction. Methods: Between October 2008 and December 2009, all SEMSs placed for malignant biliary obstruction were WallFlex™: all patients palliated were included in the study. Before October 2008, all the SEMSs placed for malignant biliary obstruction were Wallstent™, and the patients palliated from July 2007 to September 2008 were the comparative group. Results: A total of 58 WallFlex™ and 54 Wallstent™ SEMSs were placed, and efficacious biliary decompression was achieved in all patients. Early complications occurred in 5 patients in the WallFlex™ group and in 3 in the Wallstent™ group (p =ns). Late complications occurred in 6 patients in the WallFlex™ group and in 16 in the Wallstent™ group (p <0.01). The overall patency of the self-expandable metal stent in the WallFlex™ and the Wallstent™ groups was similar (227 days vs. 215 days, p =ns). Mean patient survival was 242 days in the WallFlex™ group and 257 days in the Wallstent™ group (p =ns). Conclusions: We found no difference in terms of overall patency between the two types of SEMSs, but there was an increased rate of late adverse events in the Wallstent™ group. Abstract: In this article, we argue for the need for new pedagogical solutions in the elite French Graduate Schools of Engineering and Management, in order to deal with the challenges represented by globalization. Building on our interdisciplinary, intercultural research and teaching at the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce, Bretagne Brest, and the Telecom Bretagne, in Brittany, France, we propose a research and teaching model based on a combination of “interity” (), and a “third place” for language and intercultural learning () using a multiperspectivist approach (). After a detailed explanation of this interdisciplinary research framework, we report on our teaching design, where students have access to direct experience of conflict, consensus and mediation in order to promote intercultural learning. We then identify and analyze the complexity of an intercultural situation, or critical incident, from different perspectives, such as context, field, strategy, level, self-organization and oscillation between differing cultural dimensions, or what Demorgon terms “pre-adaptive antagonisms”. Our analysis also takes into account evidence of the students’ creation of “interity” and of their emerging “third places”. Finally, we analyze a certain number of cultural constraints at a national, institutional and classroom level, which may impede the implementation of the experiential teaching design, before suggesting future improvements to our design. Abstract: The activity of voriconazole was tested in vitro against 1996 clinical yeast isolates collected in 20 Italian microbiology laboratories. Voriconazole susceptibility testing was carried out with the broth microdilution (NCCLS M27-A2), Etest and disk diffusion methods. The minimum inhibitory concentrations at which 90% of the isolates were inhibited (MIC90) obtained with the NCCLS method were 0.03mg/L for Candida albicans, 0.5mg/L for Candida non-albicans and 0.25mg/L for other genera; those obtained with Etesting were, respectively, 0.032mg/L, 0.125mg/L and 0.125mg/L. With the disk diffusion method, the majority of isolates (92.3%) showed inhibition zone diameters between 21mm and 40mm. Using a tentative MIC cut-off of 1mg/L as indicative of in vitro susceptibility, 98.1% of the isolates tested in our study would be classified as susceptible, and only 28 (1.4%) of the isolates, with MICs higher than 2mg/L, would be classified as resistant to the drug. Our findings confirm the broad-spectrum in vitro activity of voriconazole against yeasts, including Candida species that are generally less susceptible to other azoles. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a typical hypervascular tumor. The utility of serum alpha-fetoprotein (α-FP) in its detection is questionable. Over-expression and high circulating levels of insulin-like growth factor-II (IGF-II) were reported in tissue and in serum of patients with HCC. We investigated the diagnostic application of IGF-II in the diagnosis of HCC. Methods: Serum IGF-II and α-FP levels were measured in 178 patients (82 with HCC and 96 with liver cirrhosis) and in 30 healthy controls. Spearman test, non parametric combination test and confidence interval analysis were used for statistical evaluation of data. Results: The best cut-off values selected by ROC curves were 796ng/ml for IGF-II and 132ng/ml for α-FP. IGF-II mean values were higher in patients with HCC than in those with liver cirrhosis (LC) (p =0.0001) but lower in LC than in controls (p =0.0001). Serum IGF-II levels above cut-off were found in 22% of patients with HCC, in 9.3% of those with cirrhosis and in 20% of controls. α-FP serum levels >132ng/ml were observed in 48% of HCC, in 3.1% of LC and in none of control group. By correlation study, serum IGF-II levels were significantly correlated with serum α-FP levels (r =0.427, p =0.0001) and with nodules'' diameter (r =0.252, p =0.0130) but not with nodules'' number (p >0.050). Finally, IGF-II showed lower sensitivity, specificity and predictive values than α-FP. Conclusion: Circulating IGF-II is not a useful marker for HCC. Further researches are however needed to evaluate its diagnostic accuracy before and after nutritional adjustment. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Objective: Capillary hemangiomas are benign vascular lesions involving the skin and soft tissues that commonly occur at birth or an early age. Intracranial capillary hemangiomas are extremely rare; only 14 cases have been reported the literature. Case Description: We describe four patients with capillary hemangiomas. In two of these patients the lesions arose from the cavernous sinus. In the third patient, a large capillary hemangioma arising from the middle cranial fossa extended into the infratemporal fossa. The fourth patient had a left hemorrhagic temporoparietal capillary hemangioma. Results: The first two patients underwent a partial resection, followed by radiotherapy. Local tumor control was achieved in both cases, as shown by the follow-up magnetic resonance imaging. In the third patient the lesion was subtotally removed after embolization. Radiotherapy, performed one year after surgery because of recurrence, allowed tumor control. In the fourth patient surgical removal was total and no adjuvant radiotherapy was required after surgery; follow-up magnetic resonance imaging did not show any recurrence at the one-year follow-up. Conclusion: Surgery is an option for symptomatic intracranial capillary hemangiomas. However, because partial removal is associated with a high recurrence rate, capillary hemangiomas that cannot be removed radically should be treated with radiotherapy, which offers the possibility of controlling lesion size and preventing tumor recurrence. Abstract: Hepatitis A virus (HAV) protein 2A has the capacity to harbor and expose a short foreign epitope. The chimeric virus, HAV-gp41, bearing seven amino acids of the 2F5 epitope of the HIV glycoprotein gp41, was shown to replicate in cell culture and laboratory animals and to induce a humoral immune response. As an extension of this work, we now investigated the possibility to insert longer epitopes, their impact on genetic stability, and the production of chimeric HAV. Twenty-seven amino acid residues of either HIV gp41, comprising the 2F5 epitope, or of a mimotope (F78) of the hypervariable region 1 of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) envelope protein E2 were inserted near the C-terminus of HAV 2A and viral capsid formation and replication were studied. The genome of the chimeric virus (HAV-F78) had reduced replication ability, yet the sedimentation profile of the chimeric particles was unchanged and the HCV sequence was maintained over serial viral passages. In contrast, no capsids were formed when an extended HIV epitope of 27 residues was inserted, precluding the rescue of infectious chimeric virus. Based on structural analyses, the data suggest that the isoelectric point (pI) and/or the secondary structure of the chimeric proteins are essential determinants that affect HAV particle formation for which protein 2A serves as an assembly signal. Colloid cysts of the third ventricle are rare benign lesions, which amount to approximately 1% of all intracranial tumors. Because these lesions grow predominantly in the anterior aspect of the third ventricle, they may cause the occlusion of the foramina of Monro, generating obstructive hydrocephalus. Surgery is mandatory in cases of large cysts and/or in symptomatic patients. Among the different surgical strategies described in colloid cysts surgery, the microsurgical transcallosal approach still constitutes the procedure of choice in many centers. In this study, we describe a modified microsurgical transcallosal approach, the interhemispheric transgenual approach, in a series of 13 consecutive patients operated on for colloid cysts of the third ventricle. All the procedures were performed by the senior author (V.E.) at Neuromed Institute of Pozzilli (Is, Italy). The operative procedure is described in its various steps, illustrating the differences and potential advantages compared with the traditional microsurgical transcallosal approach. No surgical complications or new-onset neurologic deficits were observed in the postoperative period. The postoperative magnetic resonance imaging confirmed in all cases complete lesion removal without any sign of parenchymal damage. No lesion recurrence or need for permanent cerebrospinal fluid diversion was detected in the patients of this series during the follow-up period. In our experience, the interhemispheric transgenual approach has been effective in providing complete colloid cyst removal with minimal risk of vascular and parenchymal damage. Further studies are required to confirm its efficacy in improving the overall outcome of the microsurgical transcallosal approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Presacral schwannomas are rare benign tumors that may reach large size before becoming symptomatic. Total surgical removal has been considered the best treatment option. Tumors arising from the presacral area are commonly managed through anterior approaches, whereas posterior approaches are used for pure intrasacral tumors or large lesions with both intrasacral and presacral extension, alone or in combination with anterior approaches. We describe a quick and minimally invasive navigation-guided posterolateral approach to a right presacral L5 schwannoma. The lesion was microsurgically removed through high-speed drilling of the upper portion of the right sacral ala, under intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring. The postoperative course was unremarkable, and the patient experienced improvement in his sensory disturbance. Postoperative magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography scan showed the complete excision of the lesion and the removal of the upper sacral ala with preservation of the right L5-S1 articular complex. The histologic examination confirmed a schwannoma (World Health Organization grade I). The posterolateral transsacral ala approach may represent a minimally invasive option in the surgical management of presacral well-circumscribed benign tumors. Spinal navigation could be properly used to facilitate lesion exposure and to minimize the bone removal. • Postoperative SRS is usually recommended for resected brain metastases. • 3 x 9 Gy demonstrates activity in both intact and resected large NSCLC metastases. • Local control is comparable between resected and intact large brain metastases. • A worse safety profile can be expected after surgery and postoperative SRS (3 x 9 Gy). Purpose: to investigate clinical outcomes in patients with large brain metastases from non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who received surgical resection and postoperative stereotactic radiosurgery or SRS alone. Patients and Methods: Two hundred and twenty-two patients with 241 large brain metastases (2–4 cm in size) who received surgery and multi-fraction SRS (mfSRS) to the resection cavity or mfSRS alone were analyzed. For all lesions the delivered dose was 3 x 9 Gy over three consecutive days. Primary endpoint of the study was local control (LC). Secondary endpoints included early improvement of neurological deficits, changes in performance status, treatment-related toxicity, radiation-induced brain necrosis (RN), distant brain failure (DBF), and overall survival (OS). Kaplan-Meier analysis and cumulative incidence function were used for comparing the probability of failure. Results: At a median follow-up of 13 months, median OS times and 1-year survival rates were comparable: 13.5 months and 59% for patients receiving surgery and postoperative mfSRS to the resection cavity and 15.2 months and 68% for those treated with mfSRS alone (p = 0.2). Median DBF did not differ significantly between groups (surgery and mfSRS,12 months; mfSRS,14 months). Eighteen patients receiving surgery and mfSRS and 17 patients treated with mfSRS alone recurred locally (p = 0.2); respective 6-month and 12-month LC rates were 87% and 83% and 96% and 91% (p = 0.15). The 1-year cumulative incidence rates of RN were 15% and 7% after postoperative mfSRS and mfSRS alone (p = 0.03), respectively. Conclusions: In conclusion, mfSRS is an effective treatment for patients with large brain metastases from NSCLC resulting in equivalent LC and lower RN and risk of leptomeningeal spread compared to surgery and mf-SRS to the resection cavity. Abstract: We investigated occurrence, transport pathways, and effects of polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants and other endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in aquatic media and the foodweb in the lower Columbia River. In 2009 and 2010, foodweb sampling at three sites along a gradient of contaminant exposure near Skamania (Washington), Columbia City (Oregon) and Longview (Washington) included water (via passive samplers), bed sediment, invertebrate biomass residing in sediment, a resident fish species (largescale suckers [Catostomus macrocheilus]), and eggs from osprey (Pandion haliaetus). This paper primarily reports fish tissue concentrations. In 2009, composites of fish brain, fillet, liver, stomach, and gonad tissues revealed that overall contaminant concentrations were highest in livers, followed by brain, stomach, gonad, and fillet. Concentrations of halogenated compounds in tissue samples from all three sites ranged from <1 to 400nanograms per gram of wet tissue. Several chemical classes, including PBDEs, organochlorine pesticides, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), were detected at all sites and in nearly all fish tissues sampled. In 2010, only fish livers were sampled and inter-site concentration differences were not as pronounced as in 2009. Chemical concentrations in sediments, fish tissues, and osprey eggs increased moving downstream from Skamania to the urbanized sites near Columbia City and Longview. Numerous organochlorine (OC) pesticides, both banned and currently used, and PBDEs, were present at each site in multiple media and concentrations exceeded environmental quality benchmarks in some cases. Frequently detected OC compounds included hexachlorobenzene, pentachloroanisole, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and its degradates, chlorpyrifos, and oxyfluorofen. Biomagnification of BDE47, 100, 153, and 154 occurred in largescale suckers and osprey eggs. Results support the hypothesis that contaminants in the environment lead to bioaccumulation and potential negative effects in multiple levels of the foodweb. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
