Extended reality (XR) enables both new opportunities but also introduces new barriers for inclusion in society. Furthermore, XR is less researched than web, desktop and mobile applications. This position paper presents the concept of an XR platform for inclusion, with the purpose to make people on the autism spectrum and with other disabilities, more independent of help from others in everyday life situations. Based on previous research, our position is that, through current and future XR technologies combined with civic and artificial intelligence, it is possible to create individually personalised support for this purpose, grounded in practice to ensure validation. Peer-reviewed conferences, the main publication venues in CS, rely critically on matching highly qualified reviewers for each paper. Because of the growing scale of these conferences, the tight timelines on which they operate, and a recent surge in explicitly dishonest behavior, there is now no alternative to performing this matching in an automated way. This paper introduces Large Conference Matching (LCM) , a novel reviewer–paper matching approach that was recently deployed in the 35th AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AAAI 2021), and has since been adopted (wholly or partially) by other conferences including ICML 2022, AAAI 2022-2024, and IJCAI 2022-2024. LCM has three main elements: (1) collecting and processing input data to identify problematic matches and generate reviewer–paper scores; (2) formulating and solving an optimization problem to find good reviewer–paper matchings; and (3) a two-phase reviewing process that shifts reviewing resources away from papers likely to be rejected and towards papers closer to the decision boundary. Based on the rapid development of intelligent technologies in recent years, the digital transformation of the whole industry and society has become increasingly important. Among them, digital twins and artificial intelligence have great potentials in improving industry processes and further enhancing productivity. This paper proposes an Intelligent Digital Twin System (IDTS) based on artificial intelligence and digital twins for the paper industry. The system includes the prediction models for the stirring speed of the dump chest, the water consumption of the deflaker, the supply air pressure of the dryer, and the exhaust air temperature of the dryer. The sensors, 5G network slices, and other equipment collect related data during the papermaking process for generating twin data, and we use the prediction models to analyze the data and monitor important indicators (stirring speeds, water consumptions, supply air pressures, and exhaust air temperatures) for the manufacturing processes, which are used to improve the energy utilization and production efficiency of the paper industry and thus facilitate cost saving. We apply this intelligent digital twin system and its associated prediction models to an actual paper manufacturing factory and show their effectiveness by improving the operational efficiency and saving labor and maintenance costs. In the production of paper cups in industrial factories, it is tried to print high quality cups with less waste loss with the help of sensors and heating resistances mounted on the paper cup machine. In this study, a system that detects faulty products based on image processing and removes it by controlling the machine with servo motors, asynchronous motors and programmable logic controller (PLC) is designed. For fault product detection, classification has been performed using real-time Haarcascade algorithm and You Only Look Once (YOLO) algorithm which is a deep learning methods, and real-time object detection has been carried out using the OpenCv library. With this study, an effective faulty product detection and removing hardware system was realized by adapting artificial intelligence algorithms to a machine used in industry. Based on the results, a whole system can be applied to systems that involve removing a faulty product from a band in any production, packaging etc. facility is proposed. A hardware consisting of servo motors, asynchronous motors and PLC was designed to separate faulty cups from the existing paper cup production machine in this study. Then, a data set composed of 1068 images was created with images taken from the camera for faulty and faultless paper cups. Using this dataset, the effect of different deep learning methods on performance in the real-time system has been examined and successful results have been obtained. Abstract: This article explores the application of image processing techniques in recyclable waste paper sorting. In recycling, waste papers are segregated into various grades as they are subjected to different recycling processes. Highly sorted paper streams facilitate high quality end products and save processing chemicals and energy. From 1932 to 2009, different mechanical and optical paper sorting methods have been developed to fill the paper sorting demand. Still, in many countries including Malaysia, waste papers are sorted into different grades using a manual sorting system. Because of inadequate throughput and some major drawbacks of mechanical paper sorting systems, the popularity of optical paper sorting systems has increased. Automated paper sorting systems offer significant advantages over human inspection in terms of worker fatigue, throughput, speed, and accuracy. This research attempts to develop a smart vision sensing system that is able to separate the different grades of paper using first-order features. To construct a template database, a statistical approach with intra-class and inter-class variation techniques are applied to the feature selection process. Finally, the K-nearest neighbor (KNN) algorithm is applied for paper object grade identification. Pandemics such as COVID-19 have exposed global inequalities in essential health care. Here, we proposed a novel analytics of nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs) by combining paper microfluidics with deep learning and cloud computing. Real-time amplifications of synthesized SARS-CoV-2 RNA templates were performed in paper devices. Information pertained to on-chip reactions in time-series format were transmitted to cloud server on which deep learning (DL) models were preloaded for data analysis. DL models enable prediction of NAAT results using partly gathered real-time fluorescence data. Using information provided by the G-channel, accurate prediction can be made as early as 9 min, a 78% reduction from the conventional 40 min mark. Reaction dynamics hidden in amplification curves were effectively leveraged. Positive and negative samples can be unbiasedly and automatically distinguished. Practical utility of the approach was validated by cross-platform study using clinical datasets. Predicted clinical accuracy, sensitivity and specificity were 98.6%, 97.6% and 99.1%. Not only the approach reduced the need for the use of bulky apparatus, but also provided intelligent, distributable and robotic insights for NAAT analysis. It set a novel paradigm for analyzing NAATs, and can be combined with the most cutting-edge technologies in fields of biosensor, artificial intelligence and cloud computing to facilitate fundamental and clinical research. ChatGPT could allow students to plagiarize the content of their coursework with little risk of detection. Little is known about undergraduate willingness to use AI tools. In this study, psychology undergraduates (N = 160) from the United Kingdom, indicated their willingness to use, and history of using, ChatGPT to write university assignments. Almost a third (32%) indicated that they would use such tools; 15% indicated that they had used them already. Neither personality (conscientiousness, agreeableness, Machiavellianism, narcissism), academic performance, nor study skills self-efficacy could predict future use of AI tools. A novel Degree Apathy Scale was the only significant predictor. Willingness to use AI tools was greater when the risk of getting caught was low, and punishment was light, particularly for those high in degree apathy. Findings suggest that degree apathy is a key risk factor in academic misconduct. Peer review is a widely accepted mechanism for research evaluation, playing a pivotal role in academic publishing. However, criticisms have long been leveled at this mechanism, mostly because of its poor efficiency and low reproducibility. Recent years have seen the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in assisting the peer review process. Nonetheless, with the involvement of humans, such limitations remain inevitable. In this paper, we propose the concept and pipeline of automated scholarly paper review (ASPR) and review the relevant literature and technologies of achieving a full-scale computerized review process. On the basis of the review and discussion, we conclude that there is already corresponding research and preliminary implementation at each stage of ASPR. We further look into the challenges in ASPR with the existing technologies. The major difficulties lie in inadequate data, imperfect document parsing and representation, defective human–computer interaction, and flawed deep logical reasoning. Moreover, we point out the future directions and discuss the possible moral and ethical issues of ASPR. Abstract: Image acquisition has great influence on the performance of any computer vision application. Different methods can be utilized to acquire the digital image of a paper, whilst scanning scheme is among the most attractive methods. This attractiveness is because of the fewer types of potential deformations and the low cost of the scanning devices, e.g. flatbed scanners. However, paper is commonly placed imperfectly on the scanner. This slight rotation is not usually based on a pivot around the paper''s geometrical center (the well known regular rotation) but instead it is based on a pivot placed at the corner of the paper. Thus, the result is a digital image that is deformed with an “irregular rotation”. The characteristic of this deformation phenomenon is currently unknown to computer vision scientists. In this paper we provide an extensive investigation of this deformation. In addition, a new set of equations that sway and measure the transformation is proposed. Our investigation leads to the conclusion that the “irregular rotation” phenomenon produces a shear transformation. Furthermore, the experimental results confirm the theoretical findings. Abstract: The study first summarizes the characteristics of various intelligent algorithms such as improved genetic algorithm, differential evolution algorithm and ant colony algorithm adopted in test paper generation, and then proposes the parallel evolution of swarm based on ideas of shared intelligent algorithm and dynamic multi branches tree algorithm, so as to improve searching speed and achieve the effect of short-time optimization. During forming optimal individuals, classified training and repeated recognition by virtue of dynamic multi branches tree can not only avoid premature appearance but also get strong convergence. In addition, when the constraints change, the existing knowledge can be inherited. Over the past decades, companies have continually sought out approaches that help them reduce the innovation cycle time due to its importance in their success. Among these approaches are TRIZ-based systematic inventive design processes, such as Inventive Design Methodology (IDM). Nevertheless, the application of these methods in the initial analysis, which requires an exhaustive gathering of information at the start of the innovation project without considering its impact on the final solution, decreases the agility of these types of processes. Consequently, a lean-based method called Inverse Problem Graph (IPG) has been proposed to formulate problems in the initial analysis phase of the inventive design process. However, the manual gathering of essential information to create a network of problems in the IPG method requires time and effort, which impresses the method's capability. This paper integrates an automatic information retrieval approach, using Doc2vec and Cosine Similarity as Artificial Intelligence methods and Scientific Papers, into the IPG process. The integration helps to introduce a new method for the initial analysis phase of inventive design, helping to resolve part of its drawback in collecting essential knowledge from Scientific Data. The emerging concept of digital twins outlines the pathway towards intelligent buildings. Although abundant building data carries an overwhelming amount of information, if not well exploited, the redundant and irrelevant data dimensions result in the overfitting problem and heavy computational load. Taking the fault detection and diagnosis process for building HVAC systems as the case, this paper adopts a symbolic artificial intelligence technique to identify informative sensory dimensions for building-specific faults by exploring the symbolic representation of labelled time-series. To preserve this ad-hoc temporal knowledge in the digital twin ecosystem, machine-readable fault tags are defined to label corresponding sensor entities. A digital twin data platform is developed to annotate the real-time data with fault tags and produce filtered low-latency data streams associated with a specified tag to automate this process. Abstract: In agricultural soil, a suite of anthropogenic events shape the ecosystem processes and populations. However, the impact from anthropogenic sources on the soil environment is almost exclusively assessed for chemicals, although other factors like crop and tillage practices have an important impact as well. Thus, the farming system as a whole should be evaluated and ranked according to its environmental benefits and impacts. Our starting point is a data set describing agricultural events and soil biological parameters. Using machine learning methods for inducing regression and model trees, we produce empirical models able to predict the soil quality from agricultural measures in terms of quantities describing the soil microarthropod community. We are also interested in discovering additional higher level knowledge. In particular, we have identified the most important factors influencing the population densities of springtails and mites and their biodiversity. High precision and low complexity control algorithm plays an important role in the developing of the end-effector instrumentation of different robot manipulators. In order to reduce the kinetic energy and the high-speed drift phenomenon of the repetitive motion tracking task, the robot manipulator needs to calibrate its configuration. In this paper, we formulate the configuration calibration of the robot manipulator for the repetitive motion task as a future quadratic programming optimization problem constrained with equality constraints, which is also regarded as a fundamental problem in artificial intelligence and modern control engineering. Zhang neural network, which is a canonical method, can be adopted to deal with the continuous form of the future optimization problem, named as temporally dependent quadratic programming problem with equality constraints. In order to overcome the issue of temporally dependent inverse computing, a novel Zhang neural network model and its uncertain disturbance tolerant model, which are termed as filtered reciprocal-kind Zhang neural network model and uncertain disturbance tolerant filtered reciprocal-kind Zhang neural network model, respectively, are proposed by integrating the energy-type cost function and Zhang neural network design formula for solving the temporally dependent quadratic programming problem with equality constraints in this paper. Based on the Euler discrete formula and the models, the discrete filtered reciprocal-kind Zhang neural network and the discrete uncertain disturbance tolerant filtered reciprocal-kind Zhang neural network algorithms are proposed for solving the future quadratic programming problem with equality constraints and the robot manipulator configuration calibration problem of repetitive motion. The convergence properties of the reciprocal-kind Zhang neural network model and its corresponding uncertain disturbance tolerant model are obtained by Lyapunov stability theory of nonlinear system and its corresponding perturbed system, while the convergence property of the filtered reciprocal-kind Zhang neural network model is analyzed by the limit thinking. The use of digital technologies in managing bowel conditions has been a topic of interest among healthcare practitioners. The objectives of this paper were to provide information about the types of digital technologies that have been used for bowel management and the context of the studies; identify the gaps and challenges in digital technologies for bowel management and propose new methods and techniques for the application of digital technologies in bowel management. A scoping review was conducted following the principles of Preferred Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). A search was conducted on six academic databases. 1891 papers were retrieved from the initial search; however, 6 papers were included based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings suggest that published work focused mainly on a research context and with a narrow focus targeting sub-categories of bowel conditions and not implemented in the context of everyday use. The findings also illustrate the variety of early-stage developments focused on increasing support for severe bowel dysfunction, for example, through biofeedback to aid muscle control training, or the placement of artificial anal sphincters to increase rectal perception. However, technology to support bowel management for broader populations with less severe or variable symptoms appears limited. The purpose of this paper is to develop a better understanding about the benefits that can be realized after implementing voice-based chatbot technologies in banks. Furthermore, this paper aims to investigate the challenges faced by organizations when implementing such technologies. This study followed a qualitative approach where semi-structured interviews were conducted with experts from mid to senior managerial levels working in a leading bank operating in Jordan and had implemented the voice-based chatbot technology. Implementing voice-based chatbot technology for the first time in a Jordanian bank has positively impacted the growth of the bank, increased customers satisfaction, and added a competitive advantage value to the bank. On the other side, different challenges faced the bank when it implemented this technology like issues related to security, compliance, integration, and infrastructure limitations. Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and automated robotics will profoundly influence space operations. By utilising machine learning and deep learning approaches, AI-enabled systems may accomplish tasks as well as improve their own performance. These capabilities are useful in the often-remote settings of outer space and will grow in value as automated space operations become more widespread. As AI extends throughout the space domain, automated algorithms will take on many of the roles that have historically been handled by humans. Artificial intelligence is progressing from theory to implementation in the space environment by exposing new satellites and orbital autonomous vehicles to new data. Even though all initial computational parameters are provided, such systems' outputs can be very unpredictable, putting people, property, and the environment at risk. This paper investigates the application of United Nations space treaties, selected regional AI regulations, and various 'soft-law' instruments and industry initiatives focusing on responsible AI system development to space-based AI systems. Following that, reforms are proposed to clarify the practical relationship between AI systems and the international legal regime that governs space, as well as a 'bottom-up' regulatory approach to better facilitate the future development of regulation governing the use of AI by the global space sector. Currently, the public security sector is faced with an increasing administrative burden that limits the ability of police officers to focus on core security tasks. This paper focuses on the possibility of using large-scale language models (LSMs) as an innovative tool to address this challenge. Based on a careful literature review and analysis of current trends in artificial intelligence, the author team develops a concept for integrating GPTs into police practice, with an emphasis on the potential for reducing administrative burden and supporting efficient processing of relevant information. As part of this research, we have identified key areas of policing where AI could bring significant value, including data analysis and document production assistance. This paper deals with a comparative evaluation of nonlinear controllers based on the linear regression technique, which is a machine learning algorithm for maximum power point tracking. In the past decade, most photovoltaic systems have been equipped with classical algorithms such as perturb and observe, hill climbing, and incremental conductance. The simplicity of these techniques and their ease of implementation were seen as the main reasons for their utilization in photovoltaic systems. However, researchers' attention has recently been attracted by artificial intelligence-based techniques such as linear regression, which offer better performance within the bounds of the nonlinearity of photovoltaic system characteristics. An adaptive terminal synergetic backstepping controller is developed in this paper for a single-ended primary inductance converter. An increasing number of manufacturing companies have initiated designing and implementing AI systems in manufacturing, however, with limited success. Within our overarching research objective of establishing a methodology for the development of AI systems in manufacturing with socio-technical system consideration, this paper focuses on the early design phase of the development life cycle and aims to identify factors that are essential in the phase but whose importance has been less addressed in the manufacturing literature. To this aim, a case study was conducted adopting a design science approach. The case company was developing an ML-based anomaly detection system for a casting process. The researcher organised an AI system design workshop where participants from the company used the Human-AI design guidelines created by a leading large software company. The workshop enabled the participants to explore a wide range of design concerns. It, however, caused the confusing experience that they had to deal with too many questions simultaneously without clear guidance. Analysing this negative experience has led to identifying four design issues requiring further attention in the research. An example of these issues is that the interdependency of design decisions on operational procedures, human-machine interfaces, ML models, pre-processing, and input data makes it challenging to design these elements in isolation. The study found that a structured approach to dealing with the identified issues was currently lacking. Tailings dam failures cause catastrophic impact on the environment and surrounding communities. Incidences of failure in the recent past have caused industrialists and researchers to seek innovative ways for proactively managing their safety and disaster mitigation. Given Industry 4.0 technologies now available, researchers are looking to develop digital tools for cost-effective, realtime monitoring of tailings dams. However, published literature indicates that a reliable framework is still lacking. This paper proposes a framework for developing a data-driven system for monitoring tailings dam stability and early warning detection. The framework relies upon digital twin simulation and machine-learning (ML) techniques, and comprises four main components: realtime data collection, digital twin modelling, ML-based early detection and prediction, and intelligence-driven decision-support. Sensors gather real-time geophysical data from monitored structure, and the digital twin uses this data to simulate dam behaviour. ML algorithms analyse the data and simulations to enable early detection of instability and failure prediction. Literature suggests that digital twin and ML-based approaches may have advantages over traditional monitoring techniques and other AI-based methods. In the rapidly evolving field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), its application in industrial settings, particularly for anomaly detection in time series data, poses unique challenges. Artificial intelligence (AI)-driven fault diagnosis methods are crucial for ensuring rotating machinery's safety and effective operation. The success of most current methods relies on the assumption that sufficient high-quality labeled datasets can be obtained for model training. However, in real-world industrial scenarios, obtaining such datasets is difficult or nearly impossible, thereby hindering the practical implementation of these methods. The integration of virtual modeling and transfer learning offers a powerful approach to meet the above challenge. Abundant virtual data of different fault categories can be acquired in the virtual space with highly flexible and at a low cost, and transfer learning can enhance the practical utility of these virtual data for contributing to the construction of diagnosis models. Therefore, this paper proposes a digital twin-driven partial domain fault diagnosis method based on unlabeled physical data and labeled virtual data. First, a virtual model of rotating machinery is built to generate labeled virtual fault data with enough fault types. Then, an adversarial transfer learning network is developed to leverage the effective knowledge from the virtual and physical data. Meanwhile, a weighting learning module is introduced to reduce the negative effect caused by the redundant fault categories in the virtual space. Finally, the proposed digital twin-driven transfer learning network is trained with the labeled virtual data and unlabeled physical data. Experiments on a light truck transmission system demonstrate that the proposed method achieves satisfactory diagnostic performance even without labeled physical fault data, contributing to the advancement of AI engineering applications. In traditional medicine and ethnomedicine, medicinal plants have long been recognized as the basis for materials in therapeutic applications worldwide. In particular, the remarkable curative effect of traditional Chinese medicine during corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has attracted extensive attention globally. Medicinal plants have, therefore, become increasingly popular among the public. However, with increasing demand for and profit with medicinal plants, commercial fraudulent events such as adulteration or counterfeits sometimes occur, which poses a serious threat to the clinical outcomes and interests of consumers. With rapid advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning can be used to mine information on various medicinal plants to establish an ideal resource database. We herein present a review that mainly introduces common machine learning algorithms and discusses their application in multi-source data analysis of medicinal plants. Reproducibility of artificial intelligence (AI) research has become a growing concern. One of the fundamental reasons is the lack of transparency in data, code, and model. In this work, we aimed to systematically review the radiology and nuclear medicine papers on AI in terms of transparency and open science. A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed to identify original research studies on AI. The search was restricted to studies published in Q1 and Q2 journals that are also indexed on the Web of Science. A random sampling of the literature was performed. Besides six baseline study characteristics, a total of five availability items were evaluated. Two groups of independent readers including eight readers participated in the study. Inter-rater agreement was analyzed. Disagreements were resolved with consensus. Following eligibility criteria, we included a final set of 194 papers. The raw data was available in about one-fifth of the papers (34/194; 18%). However, the authors made their private data available only in one paper (1/161; 1%). About one-tenth of the papers made their pre-modeling (25/194; 13%), modeling (28/194; 14%), or post-modeling files (15/194; 8%) available. Most of the papers (189/194; 97%) did not attempt to create a ready-to-use system for real-world usage. Data origin, use of deep learning, and external validation had statistically significantly different distributions. The use of private data alone was negatively associated with the availability of at least one item (p <0.001). In the framework of Space Traffic Management (STM) the growing number of space debris and the consequent increased risk of collisions have become a topic of great interest. Moreover, the difficulty of detecting and characterizing a Resident Space Object (RSO) in terms of orbital parameters makes this research field very challenging. In most cases the available observations have a very short duration and an accurate estimation of the orbit is very difficult. This paper introduces the Initial Orbit Determination via Artificial intelligence (IODA) algorithm, a reliable and accurate orbit estimator combining metaheuristic and artificial intelligence frameworks to perform precise orbit determination from Very Short Arcs (VSAs). Starting from an initial orbit estimate derived through an Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm, a Physics Informed Extreme Learning Machine is employed to increase the accuracy of the predicted orbit. This paper proposes an innovative methodology that integrates Min-Max normalization and robust missing data handling techniques with Hybrid Fuzzy Rule-Based Systems and Neural Networks, supplemented by Game Theory for model refinement. Cameras are rapidly becoming the choice for on-board sensors towards space rendezvous due to their small form factor and inexpensive power, mass, and volume costs. When it comes to docking, however, they typically serve a secondary role, whereas the main work is done by active sensors such as lidar. This paper documents the development of a proposed AI-based (artificial intelligence) navigation algorithm intending to mature the use of on-board visible wavelength cameras as a main sensor for docking and on-orbit servicing (OOS), reducing the dependency on lidar and greatly reducing costs. Specifically, the use of AI enables the expansion of the relative navigation solution towards multiple classes of scenarios, e.g., in terms of targets or illumination conditions, which would otherwise have to be crafted on a case-by-case manner using classical image processing methods. Multiple convolutional neural network (CNN) backbone architectures are benchmarked on synthetically generated data of docking manoeuvres with the International Space Station (ISS), achieving position and attitude estimates close to 1 % range-normalised and 1 deg, respectively, an established rule of thumb for the navigation measurement accuracy during final approach.
