The educational model based on fixed time, place, curriculum, and pace is not enough in today’s society and knowledge-based economy. The education system needs to address the diversity of students’ backgrounds and needs. Furthermore, educational equity is not about equal access and inputs, but ensuring that a student’s educational path, curriculum, instruction, and schedule is developed in order to meet students’ needs. Finally, personalized learning requires a leveraging of modern technologies enabled by smart e-learning systems, developed to track and manage the learning needs of all students, and to provide access to learning content, resources, and learning opportunities which are not all available within the traditional classroom. This is the time where the “new” world citizens’ people feel “naked” without the use of technology. In this context, this paper presents a solution that integrates the concepts of social media and knowledge management allowing students, teachers and external experts (most of the times these can be future employers) to create an environment for educational work in a collaborative interdisciplinary space within and outside the institutional sphere. The solution presented is framed as an inclusive smart information system since it is developed in an adaptative learning environment (e-learning; m-learning; u-learning) for students, in higher education institutions that, due to several reasons (e.g. lack of supervision), feel a little bit lost when they have to manage their learning environment and deal with a certain topic for an essay adapted to his / her profile.

In recent years, e-learning systems have played an increasingly important role in higher education and, in particular, in enhancing learning experiences for individuals who have learning difficulties. However, it appears that many of the people involved in the development and implementation of e-learning tools overlook the needs of dyslexic students. As such, these students lack access to the resources on offer to other students and this leads to a disability divide. In order for educational initiatives to be effective, learning experiences need to be tailored to the individual needs of each student and the materials and tools employed should be aligned with the student's needs, capabilities and learning objectives. The objective of this research was to propose an ontology that will facilitate the development of learning methods and technologies that are aligned with dyslexia types and symptoms. The paper commences with a discussion of domain ontology and examines how learning objectives that take into consideration a student's capabilities and needs can be matched with appropriate assistive technology in order to deliver effective e-learning experiences and educational resources that can be consistently employed. The ontology employed within this study was developed using Ontology Web Language (OWL), an information processing system that allows applications to handle both the content and the presentation of the information available on the web. Two characteristics were employed within this research to describe each resource: dyslexia type and the features of assistive technologies that were deemed to be most appropriate for educational experiences targeted at each dyslexia type.

We present a way to automatically plan student-oriented learning contents in Moodle. Rather than offering the same contents for all students, we provide personalized contents according to the students' background and learning objectives. Although curriculum personalization can be faced in several ways, we focus on artificial intelligence (AI) planning as a very useful formalism for mapping actions, i.e. learning contents, in terms of preconditions (precedence relationships) and causal effects to find plans, i.e. learning paths that best fit the needs of each student. A key feature is that the learning path is generated and shown in Moodle in a seamless way for both the teacher and student, respectively. We also include some experimental results to demonstrate the scalability and viability of our approach. & 2015 Elsevier Ltd. This article considers e-learning as one of the efficient technologies implemented in National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) for teaching Russian and foreign students. The paper introduces the courses designed for teaching General English. The authors have analyzed the results of e-learning implementation in TPU and identified the advantages and probable disadvantages of the technology. One of the most significant benefits of e-courses is optimization of learning technology, which contributes to efficient use of human and technological resources and enhances the national education system in general. Avoidance of the recognized disadvantages suggests a blended learning strategy.

The article focuses on the problem of teaching mathematics to students of an engineering university learning in a non-native language. The results of a survey helped us identify the main difficulties facing international students when they begin their studies at Russian universities. We also describe a methodology of teaching mathematics using e-learning as web-based instruction. The use of e-learning in the educational process improves the quality of practical training and provides a better understanding of the course.

The aim of the paper is to see and study the main pedagogical principles and teaching methods in a new light. Internet technologies have integrated into the process of EFL teaching and let us innovate the way we teach English. In the modern e-learning environment of any higher educational institution, updated pedagogical principles and methods have led to the efficiency of the process. The research carried out on the basis of National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University (RF) showed the high-quality results of EFL teaching with the help of Web 2.0 tools.
