Background: This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of cutting balloon angioplasty and conventional balloon angioplasty in supra-aortic arterial lesions caused by Takayasu arteritis., Methods: A total of 46 patients with supra-aortic arterial lesions between January 2011 and December 2018 were included. Cutting balloon angioplasty was applied for 17 patients with 24 supra-aortic arterial lesions (group A), while 29 patients with 36 supra-aortic arterial lesions received conventional balloon angioplasty (group B). The preoperative clinical manifestation, operation result, and postoperative outcomes were recorded and compared in the 2 groups., Results: Dizziness, visual disturbance, and unequal/absent pulses were the most common manifestations. The technical success of revascularization was 93.5% (43/46) in patients and 93.3% (56/60) in lesions. The stent implantation rate in group A was significantly lower than that in group B (4.2% vs. 50% in lesions, P < 0.05). Restenosis was the most common complication in both groups. Although the early (≤30 days) and late (>30 days) complications in group A were less than those in group B, there was no significant difference between the 2 groups (P > 0.05). Moreover, the primary-assisted patency of cutting balloon angioplasty and conventional balloon angioplasty at 1, 2, and 5 years were 66.7%, 62.5%, and 62.5% and 61.1%, 58.2%, and 49.8%, there was no significant difference between the 2 groups (P > 0.05), respectively., Conclusions: Compared with conventional balloon angioplasty, cutting balloon angioplasty could be considered a safe and effective alternative for supra-aortic arterial lesions caused by Takayasu arteritis, demonstrating better patency and clinical benefit., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Inc. Background: It is unclear whether associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy (ALPPS) can be performed in hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with cirrhosis. We explored the efficacy of ALPPS in HCC patients., Methods: Data of 54 patients who underwent ALPPS between August 2014 and July 2020 at three centers were collected. Adverse factors affecting their prognosis were analyzed and subsequently compared with 184 patients who underwent transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE)., Results: Overall survival rates of the ALPPS group at 1, 3, and 5 years were 70.6%, 38.4%, and 31.7%, respectively; corresponding disease-free survival rates were 50.5%, 22.4%, and 19.2%, respectively. The ALPPS group had a significantly greater long-term survival rate than the TACE group (before propensity score matching, P < 0.001; after propensity score matching, P = 0.002). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that multifocal lesions (P = 0.018) and macroscopic vascular invasion (P = 0.001) were prognostic factors for HCC patients who underwent ALPPS. After the propensity score matching, the multifocal lesions (P = 0.031), macroscopic vascular invasion (P = 0.003), and treatment type (ALPPS/TACE) (P = 0.026) were the factors adversely affecting the prognosis of HCC patients., Conclusion: ALPPS was feasible in hepatitis B virus-related HCC patients with cirrhosis and resulted in better survival than TACE., (Copyright © 2022 International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association Inc. Hypochlorite, as one of reactive oxygen species, has drawn much attention due to its essential roles in special biological events and disorders. The exogenous hypochlorite remains a risk for human, animals and plants. In this work, a novel water soluble quinolin-containing nitrone derivative T has been developed for fluorometric sensing hypochlorite. The response mechanism of T towards ClO - was reported for the first time. In comparison with the reported sensors for ClO - , the sensor T in this work exhibited advantages including high selectivity (80 fold over other analytes), rapid response (within 5 s) and lipid-water distribution transformation (LogP from 2.979 to 6.131). Further biological applications suggested that T was capable of monitoring both exogenous and endogenous ClO - in living cells. The imaging in Arabidopsis thaliana indicated that the absorption and transmission of ClO - in plant could be monitored by this sensor through the chlorine-related mechanism. Background: Based on registries, the European experience has been that <50% of patients are treated according to protocols and/or benefit from the minimum required surgery for ovarian cancer. The French Cancer Plan 2009-2013 considers the definition of qualitative indicators in ovarian cancer surgery in France. This endeavour was undertaken by the French Society of Gynaecologic Oncology (SFOG) in partnership with the French National College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and all concerned learned societies in a multidisciplinary mindset., Methods: The quality indicators for the initial management of patients with ovarian cancer were based on the standards of practice determined from scientific evidence or expert consensus., Results: The indicators were divided into structural indicators, including material (equipment), human (number and qualification of staff), and organizational resources, process indicators, and outcome indicators., Conclusions: The enforcement of a quality assurance programme in any country would undoubtedly promote improvement in the quality of care for ovarian cancer patients and would result in a dramatic positive impact on their survival. Such a policy is not only beneficial to the patient, but is also profitable for the healthcare system.

Pre-transplant sera of 586 renal graft recipients were tested to investigate whether soluble CD30 (sCD30) is a useful predictor of some severe clinical episodes post-transplant. Correlation analysis showed sCD30 level was significantly correlated with acute rejection (AR) (r=0.242, P<0.001), graft loss (r=0.162, P<0.001), and pneumonia (r=-0.147, P<0.001). Higher sCD30 levels were observed in patients with AR than the others (180.0+/-89.1 vs. 135.3+/-72.7U/ml, P<0.001). And patients with pneumonia had significantly lower pre-transplant sCD30 level than the others (123.2+/-75.5 vs. 150.7+/-79.6U/ml, P=0.003). Based on statistical results, 120 and 240U/ml were selected as the optimal couple of cut-off value to divide patients into three groups: Group High (H), Group Intermedial (I) and Group Low (L). The lowest AR rate of 17.4% was observed in Group L (P<0.001). Significant difference of AR rate was also observed between Group I (29.2%) and H (42.9%) (P<0.001). There were much more patients suffering pneumonia in Group L (P=0.001). Significantly lower 5-year patient survival rate (79.4%) was observed in Group H (P=0.016). These data showed that elevated pre-transplant sCD30 level of renal allograft recipients may reflect an immune state detrimental for renal allograft survival. But sCD30 level lower than <120U/ml may be associated with a high risk of pneumonia. Pre-transplant sCD30 level is an independent predictor of acute rejection, lung infection, even graft survival. Suitable immunosuppression protocol should be selected according to pre-transplant sCD30 level in an attempt to promote patient and graft survival., (Copyright 2010 Elsevier B.V. Identification of renal graft candidates at high risk of impending acute rejection (AR) and graft loss may be helpful for patient-tailored immunosuppressive regimens and renal graft survival. To investigate the feasibility with soluble CD30 (sCD30) as predictor of AR, sCD30 levels of 70 patients were detected on day 0 pre-transplant and day 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 14, 21, and 30 post-transplant. AR episodes in 6 months were recorded and then patients were divided into Group AR (n=11) and Group UC (n=59). Results showed that the patients had higher pre-transplant sCD30 levels than healthy people. A significant decrease of sCD30 was observed on the first day post-transplant and continued until day 14 post-transplant. Soluble CD30 presented a stable level from day 14 to 30 post-transplant. Pre-transplant sCD30 levels of Group AR were much higher than those of Group UC (P<0.001). Patients of Group AR also had higher sCD30 levels than those of Group UC on day 1, 3, 5, 7, 10 and 14 (P<0.001). The sCD30 level presented a significantly delayed decrease in the patients of Group AR. Statistical results showed that the highest value of area under ROC curve (0.95) was obtained on day 5 post-transplant, suggesting that sCD30 levels on day 5 are of high predictive value. Therefore, sCD30 level may be a good marker of increased alloreactivity and of significant predictive value. It's necessary to monitor the variation of sCD30 in the early period post-transplant.
