We investigate structure of CΛ13 and discuss the difference and similarity between the structures of C12 and CΛ13 by answering the questions if the linear-chain and gaslike cluster states, which are proposed to appear in C12, survives, or new structure states appear or not. We introduce a microscopic cluster model called, Hyper-Tohsaki–Horiuchi–Schuck–Röpke (H-THSR) wave function, which is an extended version of the THSR wave function so as to describe Λ hypernuclei. We obtained two bound states and two resonance (quasi-bound) states for Jπ=0+ in CΛ13, corresponding to the four 0+ states in C12. However, the inversion of level ordering between the spectra of C12 and CΛ13, i.e. that the 03+ and 04+ states in CΛ13 correspond to the 04+ and 03+ states in C12, respectively, is shown to occur. The additional Λ particle reduces sizes of the 02+ and 03+ states in CΛ13 very much, but the shrinkage of the 04+ state is only a half of the other states, in spite of the fact that attractive Λ-N interaction makes nucleus contracted so much when the Λ particle occupies an S-orbit. In conclusion, the Hoyle state becomes quite a compact object with BeΛ9+α configuration in CΛ13 and is no more gaslike state composed of the 3α clusters. Instead, the 04+ state in CΛ13, coming from the C12(03+) state, appears as a gaslike state composed of α+α+Λ5He configuration, i.e. the Hoyle analog state. A linear-chain state in a Λ hypernucleus is for the first time predicted to exist as the 03+ state in CΛ13 with more shrunk arrangement of the 3α clusters along z-axis than the 3α linear-chain configuration realized in the C12(04+) state. All the excited states are shown to appear around the corresponding cluster-decay threshold, reflecting the threshold rule.

Background: No comprehensive analysis of the pulmonary sequelae of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Japan based on respiratory function tests and chest computed tomography (CT) has been reported. We evaluated post-COVID-19 conditions, especially focusing on pulmonary sequelae assessed by pulmonary function tests and chest CT., Methods: For this prospective cohort study, we enrolled 1069 patients who presented pneumonia at the time of admission in 55 hospitals from February 2020 to September 2021. Disease severity was classified as moderateⅠ, moderate II, and severe, defined primarily according to the degree of respiratory failure. The data on post-COVID-19 conditions over 12 months, pulmonary function, and chest CT findings at 3 months were evaluated in this study. Additionally, the impact of COVID-19 severity on pulmonary sequelae, such as impaired diffusion capacity, restrictive pattern, and CT abnormalities, was also evaluated., Results: The most frequently reported post-COVID-19 conditions at 3 months after COVID-19 were muscle weakness, dyspnea, and fatigue (48.4%, 29.0%, and 24.7%, respectively). The frequency of symptoms gradually decreased over subsequent months. In pulmonary function tests at 3 months, the incidence of impaired diffusion capacity and restrictive pattern increased depending on disease severity. There also were differences in the presence of chest CT abnormalities at the 3 months, which was markedly correlated with the severity., Conclusion: We reported a comprehensive analysis of post-COVID-19 condition, pulmonary function, and chest CT abnormalities in Japanese patients with COVID-19. Background and Aim: The differentiation of isolated cortical venous thrombosis (ICVT) from cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) can be difficult because both diseases share similar neurological symptoms and imaging findings. N-methyl- 11 C-2-(4'-methylaminophenyl)-6-hydroxybenzo-thiazole ( 11 C-PiB) positron emission tomography (PET) functions as a diagnostic modality for CAA by detecting amyloid deposition. The present prospective study evaluated amyloid deposition using 11 C-PiB-PET in consecutive patients with suspected ICVT., Method: This study was a prospective observational study. Patients who attended or were hospitalized between May 2019 and March 2020 were included in the analysis. Consecutive patients who met the criteria for suspicion of ICVT were enrolled in the study, and the clinical course, symptoms, imaging findings (including magnetic resonance imaging), and the 11 C-PiB-PET findings of each case were analyzed., Results: The study cohort included four patients (64-82 years of age, all women). Background and Aims: Acute lower gastrointestinal bleeding (ALGIB) increase with age and the administration of antiplatelet drugs. Colonic diverticular bleeding (CDB) is the most common cause of ALGIB, and endoscopic hemostasis is an effective treatment for massive CDB. But in patients without extravasation on contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT), the efficacy of urgent colonoscopy (UCS) is controversial from the point of the clinical course, including rebleeding rate. We aimed to establish a potential strategy including UCS for CDB patients without extravasation on CECT., Patients and Methods: Patients from two centers treated for CDB without extravasation on CECT between July 2014 and July 2019 were retrospectively identified (n = 282). Seventy-four underwent UCS, and 208 received conservative management. We conducted two analyses. The first analysis investigates the risk factors of rebleeding rate within 5 days after administration (very early rebleeding), and no UCS (NUCS) was not the independent factor of the very early rebleeding. The second analysis is whether UCS positively influenced the clinical course after hospitalization., Results: The prevalence of very early rebleeding and early rebleeding (6-30 days from admission), patients requiring blood transfusion within 0-5 days and 6-30 days post-admission, and duration of hospitalization were examined as clinical course factors between UCS and NUCS group. There was no significant difference between the UCS and non-UCS groups in the clinical course factors. Background: Quadriceps muscle strength reference value of normal individuals in Japan is necessary to quantitatively evaluate functional deterioration of locomotive organs. Therefore, we established a reference value by using the Locomo Scan, a new device that measures knee extension muscle strength., Methods: We measured knee extension muscle strength with the Locomo Scan in 3617 individuals (1692 men, 1925 women, 20-89 years; mean age. 50.7 years) by implementing our own 49 measurement events in 20 prefectures., Results: The means of maximum knee extension muscle strength for men (women) in each age group were as follows: 20s, 546 (475) N; 30s. 552 (475) N; 40s, 534 (450) N; 50s, 507 (442) N; 60s, 471 (405) N; 70s, 385 (340) N; and 80s, 359 (267) N. No significant differences were found from the 20s to 40s age groups, but older groups had significantly decreased knee extension muscle strength with age for both sexes., Conclusions: We established reference values for quadriceps muscle strength with the Locomo Scan as an index for functional deterioration of locomotive organs based on a large-scale sample., (Copyright © 2017 The Authors. Introduction: The purpose of this study was to compare two amyloid imaging agents, [(11)C]BF227 and [(18)F]FACT (derivative from [(11)C]BF227) through quantitative pharmacokinetics analysis in human brain., Methods: Positron emission tomography studies were performed on six elderly healthy control (HC) subjects and seven probable Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients with [(11)C]BF227 and 10 HC subjects and 10 probable AD patients with [(18)F]FACT. Data from nine regions of interest were analyzed by several approaches, namely non-linear least-squared fitting methods with arterial input functions (one-tissue compartment model(1TCM), two-tissue compartment model (2TCM)), Logan plot, and linearized methods with reference region (Reference Logan plot (RefLogan), MRTM0, MRTM2). We also evaluated SUV and SUVR for both tracers. The parameters estimated by several approaches were compared between two tracers for detectability of differences between HC and AD patients., Results: For [(11)C]BF227, there were no significant difference of VT (2TCM, 1TCM) and SUV in all regions (Student t-test; p<0.05) and significant differences in the DVRs (Logan, RefLogan, and MRTM2) and SUVRs in six neocortical regions (p<0.05) between the HC and AD groups. For [(18)F]FACT, significant differences in DVRs (RefLogan, MRTM0, and MRTM2) were observed in more than four neocortical regions between the HC and AD groups (p<0.05), and the significant differences were found in SUVRs for two neocortical regions (inferior frontal coretex and lateral temporal coretex). Our results showed that both tracers can clearly distinguish between HC and AD groups although the pharmacokinetics and distribution patterns in brain for two tracers were substantially different., Conclusion: This study revealed that although the PET amyloid imaging agents [(11)C]BF227 and [(18)F]FACT have similar chemical and biological properties, they have different pharmacokinetics, and caution must be paid for usage of the tracers., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Inc. Peroxiredoxins (Prxs) are a family of thiol peroxidases, which have been suggested to serve as biomarkers for diseases caused by oxidative stress. In this study, we established a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for quantifying the amount of Prx2 in red blood cells (RBCs). RBC proteins were separated using HPLC, and a single peak was detected that matched that produced by recombinant Prx2. Under improved conditions, the calibration curve for Prx2 (reduced form) was linear over the range of 0.5-20.0μg with a correlation coefficient of 0.999. The minimum detectable level of the recombinant Prx2 was 0.2μg, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 3 per 20μl of injection volume. SDS-PAGE and mass spectrometric analysis showed that the proteins comprising the peak were almost exclusively Prx2. Further high-resolution analysis using nanoLC-MS/MS demonstrated that the oxidation sensitive, Cys-51 was carbamidomethylated by iodoacetamide-alkylation during in-gel digestion but was not modified with sulfinic acid (-SO2H) or sulfonic acid (-SO3H). These results indicated that the separated Prx2 was the reduced form and not the hyperoxidized form. These basic experiments allowed us to determine the relative amounts of native Prx2 in RBCs taken from healthy subjects. The average levels of Prx2 in male and female subjects were 7.28ng/mg and 8.29ng/mg, respectively, and no significant difference was observed between the sexes. Therefore, the HPLC method with UV detection described herein offers a convenient method to quantitatively determine the levels of reduced form of Prx2 and its oxidative decrease in human RBCs., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier B.V. To separate (90)Y from the fission product (90)Sr-(90)Y group, a silica-based TODGA/SiO(2)-P adsorbent was prepared by impregnating N,N,N',N'-tetraoctyl-3-oxapentane-1,5-diamide (TODGA) extractant into the macroporous SiO(2)-P support with a mean diameter of 60 μm. The adsorption behavior of Sr(II) and Y(III) onto TODGA/SiO(2)-P adsorbent from HNO(3) solution and their mutual separation were investigated. Under the experimental conditions, this adsorbent showed high adsorption affinity to Y(III) and weak adsorption to Sr(II). It was found that the adsorption process of Y(III) could be expressed by both of Langmuir monomolecular layer adsorption mode and the pseudo-second order model. From the results of stability experiments, it became clear that TODGA/SiO(2)-P adsorbent is stable in 3M HNO(3) solution for 1 month contact time at 298 K. Using a column packed with TODGA/SiO(2)-P adsorbent, Sr(II) and Y(III) were eluted by distilled water and diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) solution, respectively. Two techniques employed for the early diagnosis of dementia are the imaging of amyloid-beta protein using positron emission tomography (PET) and voxel-based morphometry analysis of MRI (VBM-MRI). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical utility of amyloid PET and VBM-MRI for the early diagnosis and tracking of the severity of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The neuritic plaque burden and gray matter losses were evaluated using [11C]BF-227-PET and VBM-MRI in 12 healthy controls, 13 subjects with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), including 6 who converted to AD and 7 who did not convert, and 15 AD patients. The AD patients and the MCI converters exhibited a neocortical retention of BF-227 and parahippocampal gray matter loss shown by VBM-MRI. The MCI converters were more clearly distinguished from the MCI non-converters in BF-227-PET than VBM-MRI. The combined sample of the MCI converters and AD patients showed a significant correlation of MMSE scores with the global gray matter loss, but not with the BF-227 retention. These findings suggest that amyloid PET using [11C]BF-227 is better suited for the prediction of conversion from MCI to AD, while VBM-MRI appears to be better suited for tracking the severity of dementia.

Histamine H3 receptors play an important role in biological functions. The aim of this research was to examine whether histamine H3 receptors can be visualized in vivo and in vitro with [18F]3-(1H-imidazol-4-yl)propyl 4-fluorobenzyl ether (fluoroproxyfan). [18F]Fluoroproxyfan was synthesized with high specific activity using [18F]benzyl bromide. The binding of [18F]fluoroproxyfan to rat brain homogenates was higher in the striatum and thalamus and was lowest in the cerebellum. The in vitro autoradiographic study successfully demonstrated the specific binding of [18F]fluoroproxyfan to the H3 receptor in the rat brain. In accordance with the in vitro bindings, the in vivo distribution of [18F]fluoroproxyfan was heterogeneous in the rat brain. In the blocking experiments, the heterogeneous distribution disappeared in the presence of large amounts of fluoroproxyfan. These data suggest that [18F]fluoroproxyfan can be potentially useful to image histamine H3 receptor noninvasively in the human brain by positron emission tomography.

To detect the impact of pesticides on aquatic organisms, model streams (3m wide, 20 m long) were established in paddy field in Japan. More than 100 species of aquatic organisms were generated in the model streams. Field tests with pretilachlor herbicide and pyridaphenthion insecticide were carried out in the streams for 3 yr (2001-2003). Exposure of pretilachlor (max. 0.382 mg/L) showed little density changes in algae with a Bray-Curtis percent similarity in the range 81.6-93.3% for algae. Exposure to high concentrations (>0.1mg/L) of pyridaphenthion produced visible density reductions in Cladocera zooplankton species. Reduction of individual aquatic insects in the model streams by pyridaphenthion caused an increase of chlorophyll a greater than that of the control streams. The pesticides used showed no substantial differences in the ecosystems of model streams exposed to maximum environmental concentrations (e.g., 0.01 mg/L) detected in real rivers.

We report an unusual case of synchronous triple early cancers of the stomach, gallbladder and sigmoid colon. The patient was a 70-year-old man. Gastrointestinal endoscopy at a medical check-up initially revealed early gastric cancer. A thorough preoperative investigation showed a gallbladder tumour and early colon cancer. Endoscopic mucosal resection was performed for the colon cancer. Microscopically, the specimen showed well-differentiated adenocarcinoma involving the submucosal layer. Distal partial gastrectomy (D1) and simple cholecystectomy with lymph node dissection were also performed. The histopathological diagnosis was well-differentiated adenocarcinoma in the stomach (T1, N0, M0; Stage IA) and poorly differentiated papillary adenocarcinoma (T1, N0, M0; Stage I) in the gallbladder. The patient was doing well with no evidence of recurrence 6 months after surgery.

Repeated administration of methamphetamine (MAP) causes behavioral sensitization in animals. We previously reported that the maximum accumulation level of [11C]MAP in the MAP-sensitized dog brain was 1.4 times higher than that in the control. In behavioral studies, haloperidol (a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist) prevents MAP-induced behavioral sensitization, and cocaine (a dopamine reuptake blocker) has the cross-behavioral sensitization with MAP. In the present study, to elucidate the relation between the MAP-induced behavioral sensitization and the pharmacokinetics of MAP, we investigated the effects of haloperidol and cocaine pretreatments on brain regional distribution and kinetics of [11C]MAP using positron emission tomography (PET). A significant increase of [11C]MAP uptake into the sensitized dog brain was prevented by haloperidol and cocaine pretreatments. These pharmacokinetic changes were not due to the changes in the rate of MAP metabolism. These results suggest haloperidol and cocaine can change the cerebral pharmacokinetic profile of MAP in the behavioral-sensitized dog. The variations of MAP-accumulation may affect the development or expression of MAP-induced behavioral sensitization.

[11C]Methamphetamine ([11C]MAP) was synthesized by an automated on-line [11C]methylation system for positron emission tomography (PET) study. We newly produced a MAP sensitized dog by repeated MAP treatment and studied the brain distribution of [11C]MAP in the normal and the MAP sensitized dog. The maximal level of accumulation of [11C]MAP in the sensitized dog brain was 1.4 times higher than that in the control. No difference was found in the metabolism of MAP between the two conditions. The significant increase of [11C]MAP in the MAP sensitized brain indicates that subchronic MAP administration causes some functional change in uptake site of MAP.
