Understanding the vertical distribution of ozone is crucial when assessing both its horizontal and vertical transport, as well as when analyzing the physical and chemical properties of the atmosphere. One of the most effective ways to obtain high spatial resolution ozone profiles is through satellite observations. The Environmental Trace Gases Monitoring Instrument (EMI) deployed on the Gaofen-5 satellite is the first Chinese ultraviolet–visible hyperspectral spectrometer. However, retrieving ozone profiles using backscattered radiance values measured by the EMI is challenging due to unavailable measurement errors and a low signal-to-noise ratio. The algorithm developed for the Tropospheric Monitoring Instrument did not allow us to retrieve 87% of the EMI pixels. Therefore, we developed an algorithm specific to the characteristics of the EMI. The fitting residuals are smaller than 0.3% in most regions. The retrieved ozone profiles were in good agreement with ozonesonde data, with maximum mean biases of 20% at five latitude bands. By applying EMI averaging kernels to the ozonesonde profiles, the integrated stratospheric column ozone and tropospheric column ozone also showed excellent agreement with ozonesonde data. The lower layers (0–7.5 km) of the EMI ozone profiles reflected the seasonal variation in surface ozone derived from the China National Environmental Monitoring Center (CNEMC). However, the upper layers (9.7–16.7 km) of the ozone profiles show different trends, with the ozone peak occurring at an altitude of 9.7–16.7 km in March, 2019. A stratospheric intrusion event in central China from August 11 to 15, 2019, is captured using the EMI ozone profiles, potential vorticity data, and relative humidity data. The increase in the CNEMC ozone concentration showed that downward transport enhanced surface ozone pollution.

Activating mutations in RAS genes, notably KRASG12C, are pervasive in numerous cancers, presenting formidable challenges to therapy due to their elusive druggability. The landmark discovery of KRASG12C allosteric inhibitors marked a transformative milestone in cancer treatment, resulting in the approval of sotorasib and adagrasib. However, limitations in the depth and duration of response prompted the quest for alternative strategies. Recently, Holderfield et al., Wasko et al., and Jiang et al. reported on tri-complex inhibitors, namely RMC-7977 and RMC-6236, targeting activated RAS variants, demonstrating promising preclinical efficacy surpassing adagrasib. These advancments signify a paradigm shift in RAS oncology, promising enduring therapeutic benefits and warranting further clinical exploration.

Habitat quality is an indicator of the ecological evolution of a region, and evaluating habitat quality utilizing Machine Learning approaches can reflect the ecological status of a region more objectively. Gridded statistical ecological factors in the study region were utilized to build the Ecological Information State Layer (EISL) in the grid space. Calculate the Environmental Quality Index (EQI) of the sampled grid to evaluate the performance index of the models on the sampled grid. The model with the optimal performance index is selected for the task of habitat quality classification in the research region, and then especially decision-making advice is offered by inverting the degree of influence of ecological elements on habitat quality. The results show that: (1) The Semi-supervised Ensemble Learning model (Tri-training) Accuracy, Kappa coefficient, and F1-score are 0.93, 0.89, and 0.92, respectively, as the optimal model for the habitat quality classification task. (2) Based on the results of the ecological categories calculation, the current ecosystem quality of the southwestern section of the Daxia River Basin is maintained as a positive indicator. the ecosystem quality inside the living space centered on the cities of Linxia and Hezuo shows negative indicator changes. (3) The calculation results of the inverse importance of ecological factors show that vegetation index and human population density are the key factors impacting the habitat quality of the Daxia River Basin. In the ecological management of Daxia River Basin, the degree of spatial aggregation of people's settlements should be reduced while preserving and expanding vegetation cover. Using Tri-training's comprehensive analysis of multiple ecological factors, regional habitat quality can be accurately assessed.

Formaldehyde (HCHO) is a toxic and hazardous air pollutant that widely exists in atmosphere. Insufficient spatial and temporal coverage of surface HCHO measurements is limiting studies on surface HCHO-related air quality management and health risk assessment. This study develops a method to derive global ground-level HCHO concentrations from satellite-based tropospheric HCHO columns using TM5-simulated surface-to-column conversion factor with coarse spatial resolution. The method improves the factor more representative in finer grids by constraining TM5-simulated vertical profile shapes with satellite HCHO columns. The surface HCHO concentrations derived by the Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS) show good correlation with in situ HCHO measurements (R = 0.59) from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency surface network. We investigated how surface HCHO relates to urbanization and population aggregation over seven regions with high HCHO pollution. The results show urban HCHO increases as a power function with population size in China, India, and West Asia. HCHO concentrations in rural aeras also present strong log–log relationship with population aggregation in China, India, the United States, and Europe. Moreover, OMPS-derived ground-level HCHO concentrations were used to estimate global cancer burden caused by long-term outdoor HCHO exposure. The results show that up to 418188 more people worldwide will develop this cancer during the human life cycle. The global cancer burden is mainly from the South-East Asia region (33.11 %) and the Western Pacific region (22.95 %). This cancer occurrence in India and China is ranked 1st and 2nd in the world due to the large population size and serious HCHO pollution. Besides, global surface HCHO concentrations and cancer burden derived from the Environmental Trace Gases Monitoring Instrument which is China’s first hyperspectral space-based spectrometer are found similar patterns with that from OMPS. Our results provide new insight into the impact of population urbanization on HCHO pollution and global outdoor HCHO-caused health risks.

The stress response of fasting and extended observation of metabolic activity, antioxidant status, and transcriptomic analysis in the mussel digestive gland was reported in the present study. Our results showed that the survival rate of mussel fasting for 12 weeks was 76.15 %, and the condition factor and gonadal condition index reduced significantly after 4 weeks fasting. The ROS accumulation was significantly increased after fasting for 12 weeks, the lipid peroxidation indexes (H2O2 and MDA) were upregulated after fasting for 8 weeks, the antioxidant indexes (T-AOC, T-SOD, and CAT) were increased significantly in mussels suffering from one week fasting, then significantly decreased along with GST and GPX after long-term fasting (4, 8, 12 weeks), and the atrophy and necrosis of epithelial cells and tissue loss were observed in mussel digestive gland after long-term fasting. Changes across various metabolic regulatory pathways involved in lipid metabolism and amino acid metabolism, as well as the immunological responses were revealed by transcriptome analysis. In addition, the appearance of autophagosome and autolysosome along with the upregulation of ulk2, atg2, atg4, and Beclin1 mRNAs expression indicates autophagy was activated when fasting for one week but was relatively weakened when fasting for 8 and 12 weeks. When autophagy failed to relieve the fasting stress, apoptosis was gradually enhanced by up regulated apoptosis genes trail and bax, executing the death plan upon long-term fasting. In summary, these results indicated the transition between autophagy and apoptosis was involved in the structural and functional impairment of digestive glands in mussels caused by long-term fasting.

In this work, a magnetic covalent organic frameworks (COFs) named Fe3O4@TpBD was rapidly synthesized by an ultrasonic method, which reduced the synthesis time to 1.5 h. Fe3O4@TpBD was used as a magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) adsorbent for the extraction and enrichment of five common sulfonamides, and there were different enrichment multiples ranging from 5 to 30. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, which is not just confined to the older population. Although developments have been made in AD treatment, various limitations remain to be addressed. These are partly contributed by biological hurdles, such as the blood–brain barrier and peripheral side effects, as well as by lack of carriers that can efficiently deliver the therapeutics to the brain while preserving their therapeutic efficacy. The increasing AD prevalence and the unavailability of effective treatments have encouraged researchers to develop improved, convenient, and affordable therapies. Functional materials based on primitive cells and nanotechnology are emerging as attractive therapeutics in AD treatment. Cell primitives possess distinct biological functions, including long-term circulation, lesion site targeting, and immune suppression. This review summarizes the challenges in the delivery of AD drugs and recent advances in cell primitive–based materials for AD treatment. Various cell primitives, such as cells, extracellular vesicles, and cell membranes, are presented together with their distinctive biological functions and construction strategies. Moreover, future research directions are discussed on the basis of foreseeable challenges and perspectives.

Aviation cargo remains vital in the economic activities to transported goods from one place to another. The developed and developing countries mainly consider the transaction routes for air transportation for safe and quickest mode. Chinese economy is attracting the global World through its exports. The country's air cargo system is mainly reliant on gasoline and petroleum-based fuels, which harms the country's green transportation agenda. The high use of fuel combustions in the aviation sector needed greenfield investment that helps to use green energy as an alternative sustainable fuel. Further, sustainable aviation insurance and financial coverage are needed to mitigate the adverse negative externalities from air cargo operations. Based on the crucial facts, the study used air cargo operations, transportation fuel combustions, private investment in the transportation and insurance coverage in the pollution damage function for the China economy using data from 1975 to 2020. The research employed a non-linear ARDL Bounds testing strategy to break down the sequence of variables into dynamic positive and negative multipliers. Positive shocks in air freight, insurance services, and greenfield investment have been shown to reduce carbon emissions immediately and over the long term. In the short term, carbon damages are exacerbated by the negative shocks resulting from the use of transportation fuel and the availability of insurance. Moreover, both the positive and negative shocks associated with transportation fuel combustions and air transportation freights contribute to a rise in carbon damage. The variance decomposition analysis validated the asymmetric correlations between the aforementioned variables in the intertemporal environment. Based on the findings, negative shocks from total fuel combustions are expected to impose the greatest carbon damages over the next decade, followed by insurance services and air freight operations. The study concludes that air cargo operations need to be sustainable transacting routes fueled by biofuel energy sources, greenfield investment, and sustainable aviation insurance coverage to achieve the ‘green is clean’ transportation agenda.

Bentonite-sand mixtures are widely used in engineering barrier of deep geological disposal of high-level radioactive nuclear waste and anti-seepage barrier of civil geotechnical engineering. Under the action of groundwater solution infiltration and external stress, the hydro-mechanical (HM) behaviour of bentonite-sand mixtures, i.e. the swelling characteristics and permeability, will change. Once the anti-seepage and filtration effect is weakened or lost, the pollutants will spread to the biosphere. Therefore, it is necessary to study the swelling characteristics and permeability of bentonite-sand mixtures under coupled mechano-chemical (MC) effect and to establish corresponding prediction model. For this reason, swelling tests under salt solution with different concentrations are conducted on pure bentonite and its mixtures with 30%, 70% and 90% sand contents, the compression tests are carried out on saturated samples, and the saturated permeability coefficient k of the sample under each load is calculated by Terzaghi's one-dimensional consolidation theory. The concepts of true effective stress pe, montmorillonite void ratio em and critical sand content αs are introduced to determine the em-pe relationship and finally the k-em relationship of bentonite-sand mixtures. It is found that when the sand content α ≤ αs, the em-pe relationship of the mixture is linear and independent of the salt solution concentration, and when α > αs, the em-pe relationship of bentonite-sand mixture is bi-linear with the true effective deviatoric stress pesα as the intersection. In addition, the em-k relationship also shows the linear trend when α ≤ αs, and the slope of the line increases with the increase of the salt solution concentration. When α > αs, the k-em relationship will deviate from the linear relationship. Moreover, the larger the sand content is, the farther the deviation is. On the basis of summing the regularity, a model for predicting the HM behaviour of bentonite-sand mixture under the coupled MC effect is proposed. By comparing the swelling and permeability test results with model prediction results of different types of bentonite and its sand mixtures, the predictive model is verified. The study on the HM behaviour of bentonite-sand mixtures under salt solution infiltration and the model establishment can provide experimental and theoretical basis for the design and construction of anti-seepage engineering by bentonite-sand mixtures.

Epidemiological studies have shown that prenatal triphenyl phosphate (TPhP) exposure is related to abnormal neurobehavior in children. However, the neurodevelopmental toxicity of TPhP in mammals is limited. To study the neurodevelopmental toxicity of TPhP in mammals and investigate the underlying mechanism, we used a mouse intrauterine TPhP exposure model. We measured the inflammatory factors (IL-6, TNFα) and NFκB levels, and tryptophan metabolism in placentae, detected the fetal brain transcriptome, hippocampal neuron development and neurobehavioral in the male offspring. The results showed that the protein level of IL-6, TNFα and NFκB in the placenta of the TPhP treatment group (1, 5 mg/kg) were significantly increased. Change of the protein level of these pro-inflammatory factors in maternal serum or fetal brain was not observed. Expression of genes along tryptophan-serotonin metabolism pathway were significantly decreased. While, the concentration of 5-HT levels in the placenta or fetal brain were significantly increased. Consistent with the increased 5-HT, the Nissl body was reduced in the hippocampus of treatment group. The expression of serotonergic neuron gene markers including Tph2, Htr1A, Htr2A, Pet1 and Lmx1b in the hippocampus of treatment group was significantly decreased. The neurobehavioral test showed that TPhP decreased center time that represent anxiety-like behavior, and reduced learning and memory in male offspring. Meanwhile, expression of genes along tryptophan-kynurenine metabolism pathway were significantly increased. The result of the transcriptome analysis of fetal brain showed that the differentially expressed genes are mainly involved in the transcription regulation of DNA as a template in the nucleus, and the enriched pathways are mainly signal pathways regulated by axon guidance and neurotrophic factors, dopaminergic and cholinergic synapses, suggest that not only serotonergic neuronal was affected. Overall, this study demonstrates that TPhP has the potential to induce placental inflammatory response in the placenta, disturb placental tryptophan metabolism, compromise the neuronal development and synaptic transmission, and cause abnormal neurobehavior in male offspring.

Exosomal microRNA (miRNA) secretion has been characterized as a vital factor in intercellular communication among cancer cells. However, little is known about cancer-secreted miRNAs specifically involved in metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC). Here, we found that exosomes derived from metastatic CRC cell line SW620 promoted migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of CRC cells. The profiling of exosome miRNAs revealed that microRNA (miR)-335-5p was highly expressed in exosomes from metastatic SW620 cells compared to those derived from primary SW480 cells. miR-335-5p was transmitted from metastatic SW620 cells to CRC cells via exosomes and promoted migration, invasion, and EMT of CRC cells. Moreover, exosome-transmitted miRNA-335-5p promotes CRC cell invasion and metastasis by facilitating EMT via targeting RAS p21 protein activator 1 (RASA1). Overexpression of RASA1 abolished the promotive effects of exosomal miR-335-5p on CRC cell migration, invasion, and EMT. Collectively, our data revealed that exosomal miR-335-5p derived from metastatic CRC cells promotes CRC cell invasion and metastasis by facilitating EMT via targeting RASA1, which may serve as a potential therapeutic target for CRC metastasis.

Ultrasound at an intensity of 17.5, 20.0, 22.5, 25.0 and 27.5 W/L was used to assist dough fermentation to prepare steamed bread with 50% sweet potato pulp (SB-50% SPP), which was compared with SB-50% SPP without ultrasonic treatment. The dough rheology, starch–gluten network, texture characteristics and sensory quality of steamed bread with different ultrasonic power densities (UPDs) were investigated. Dough samples at UPD of 22.5 W/L showed optimal viscoelasticity. The microstructure images exhibited that the content of starch particles wrapped in the gluten network increased significantly after sonication. Conventional nano-iron is widely used in heavy metal contaminated groundwater remediation. However, it is easily oxidized when exposed to the air or re-aggregated under water soaking conditions. In this study, a nano-sized iron supported by graphene oxide/bentonite is proposed which is synthesized by liquid-phase reduction method. The TEM test results showed that the support effect of graphene oxide/bentonite well solved shortcomings of conventional nano-iron, since the flaky structure of graphene oxide and layered bentonite could effectively disperse nano-iron particles. The TEM images indicated that nano-iron supported by graphene oxide/bentonite at a weight ratio of 4:1:7.3 (nanoiron:graphene oxide:bentonite) yielded the smallest particle size, and most particle size was less than 30 nm. The test results show that addition of graphene oxide could improve the removal of lead ions, especially in acidic environment as compared to bentonite alone supported nano-iron. The optimum dosage of graphene oxide was found to be 6.98% based on the removal rate of lead. It was found that the removal rate of lead by graphene oxide/bentonite supported nano-iron increased with the increase of pH of simulated contaminated groundwater. The temperature was found to affect the removal rate of lead ions as well. The adsorption of lead ions by graphene oxide/bentonite supported nano-iron conformed to quasi-second order reaction kinetic model, and the adsorption isotherm well fit the Langmuir model. Through confined in nanopores, the model compound of normal eicosane (n-C20H42, C20) shows tunable melting temperature and enthalpy change, which provides a series of nanosized phase change materials with various melting points. The phase behaviors of C20 in the pores of controlled pore glasses (CPGs) and SBA-15 are estimated using differential scanning calorimetry. The melting point of C20 decreases with the decreasing pore size, following a relation by the Gibbs–Thomson equation. Maximum decreases of C20 in the pores of CPGs and SBA-15 are about 7 and 13 K, respectively, which are the melting point widows for thermal energy storage formed by the nanoconfinement. Kinetics of melting of the bulk and nanoconfined C20 reveals reduced effective activation energy in the pores. The nanosized C20 is a good example to obtain PCMs with adjustable thermal properties.

Non syndromic orofacial clefts specifically non-syndromic cleft lip/palate are one of the most common craniofacial malformation among birth defects in human having multifactorial etiology with an incidence of 1:700/1000. On the basis of association with other congenital malformations or their presence as isolated anomaly, OFC can be classified as syndromic (30%) and nonsyndromic (70%) respectively. The major cause of disease demonstrates complex interplay between genetic and environmental factors. The pathogenic mechanism of underlying factors have been provided by different genetic studies on large-scale with significant recent advances in genotyping technologies usually based on linkage or genome wide association studies (GWAS). On the basis of recent studies, new tools to identify causative genes involved in NSCL/P reported approximately more than 30 genetic risk loci that are responsible for pathogenesis of facial deformation. Despite these findings, it is still uncertain that how much of variance in NSCL/P predisposing factors can be explain by identified risk loci, as they all together accounts for only 20%–25% of NSCL/P heritability. So there is need of further findings about the problem of rare low frequency coding variants and other missing responsive factors or genetic modifiers. This review will described those potential genes and loci reported in different studies whose involvement in pathogenesis of nonsyndromic OFC has wide scientific evidence.

Gaomiaozi (GMZ) bentonite has been chosen as a possible matrix material of buffers/backfills in the deep geological disposal to isolate the high-level radioactive waste (HLRW) in China. In the Gaomiaozi deposit area, calcium bentonite in the near surface zone and sodium bentonite in the deeper zone are observed. The swelling characteristics of GMZ sodium and calcium bentonites and their mixtures with sand wetted with distilled water were studied in the present work. The test results show that the relationship between the void ratio and swelling pressure of compacted GMZ bentonite-sand mixtures at full saturation is independent of the initial conditions such as the initial dry density and water content, but dependent on the ratio of bentonite to sand. An empirical method was accordingly proposed allowing the prediction of the swelling deformation and swelling pressure with different initial densities and bentonite-sand ratios when in saturated conditions. Finally, the swelling capacities of GMZ Na- and Ca-bentonites and Kunigel Na-bentonite are compared.

Soil-water characteristics of Gaomiaozi (GMZ) Ca-bentonite at high suctions (3–287 MPa) are measured by vapour equilibrium technique. The soil-water retention curve (SWRC) of samples with the same initial compaction states is obtained in drying and wetting process. At high suctions, the hysteresis behaviour is not obvious in relationship between water content and suction, while the opposite holds between degree of saturation and suction. The suction variation can change its water retention behaviour and void ratio. Moreover, changes of void ratio can bring about changes in degree of saturation. Therefore, the total change in degree of saturation includes changes caused by suction and that by void ratio. In the space of degree of saturation and suction, the SWRC at constant void ratio shifts to the direction of higher suctions with decreasing void ratio. However, the relationship between water content and suction is less affected by changes of void ratio. The degree of saturation decreases approximately linearly with increasing void ratio at a constant suction. Moreover, the slope of the line decreases with increasing suction and they show an approximately linear relationship in semi-logarithmical scale. From this linear relationship, the variation of degree of saturation caused by the change in void ratio can be obtained. Correspondingly, SWRC at a constant void ratio can be determined from SWRC at different void ratios.
