Understanding the behavior of tire wear particles (TWPs) and their impact on aquatic environments after aging is essential. This study explored the characteristics of TWPs generated using different methods (rolling friction, sliding friction, and cryogenic milling) and their transformation after exposure to environmental conditions mimicking runoff and sewage, focusing on their effects on river water and periphytic biofilms. Laboratory experiments indicate that at low exposure levels (0.1 mg/L), TWPs promoted biofilm growth, likely due to zinc release acting as a nutrient and the aggregation of particles serving as biofilm scaffolds. However, at higher concentrations (100 mg/L), TWPs inhibited biofilm development. This inhibition is linked to toxic byproducts like N-(1,3-dimethylbutyl)-N'-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine-quinone and environmentally persistent free radicals, which reduce biofilm biomass, alter algal diversity, and decrease the production of essential biofilm components such as proteins and polysaccharides, consistent with the inhibitory behavior of TWPs on bis-(3'-5')-cyclic diguanosine monophosphate and quorum sensing signals, including acyl-homoserine lactone and autoinducer-2. Aging processes, particularly after simulated sewage treatment, further affect ecological impacts of TWPs, reducing the benefits observed at low concentrations and intensifying the negative effects at high concentrations. Contribution of here lies in systematically revealing the impact of TWPs on the development of aquatic biofilms, emphasizing the logical relationship between their aging characteristics, environmental behavior, and ecological risks. Ferroptosis is an emerging target in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We previously reported that transient receptor potential melastatin 7 (TRPM7) expression is correlated with RA cartilage destruction and demonstrated that TRPM7 mediates ferroptosis in chondrocytes. Here, we further determined the role and mechanism of (R)-N-(Benzimidazol-2-yl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-naphthylamine (NS8593), a TRPM7 inhibitor, in chondrocyte ferroptosis of RA. We established in vitro models of ferroptosis in human chondrocytes (C28/I2 cells) by using ferroptosis inducer Erastin. The results showed that NS8593 could protect C28/I2 cells from ferroptosis by inhibiting TRPM7 channel, which was manifested by restoring cell viability, reducing cytotoxicity, affecting the expression of ferroptosis marker protein, and restoring redox balance to alleviate Erastin-induced oxidative stress injury. Mechanistically, the Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) axis responded to Erastin stimulation, which resulted in TRPM7-mediated chondrocyte ferroptosis, NS8593 could reduce the expression of HO-1 by inhibiting TRPM7 channel. Moreover, NS8593 alleviated articular cartilage destruction and inhibited chondrocyte ferroptosis in AA rats. Herein, a magnetic cationic Schiff base polymeric material (Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 -Schiff-TAPB-DA) was fabricated simply and rapidly, which was explored as a magnetic adsorbent for magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) for enriching seven avermectins insecticides in surface water and milk matrices combined with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). Under the optimized pretreatment and instrumental parameters, the analytes showed good linearity in the range of 0.5-200.0 ng·mL -1 with a correlation coefficient (R 2 ) greater than 0.9990 and high precision. The limits of detection for the analytes were 0.004-0.047 μg·L -1 for surface water sample and 0.008-0.250 μg·kg -1 for milk samples. Satisfactory recoveries of spiked target compounds were in the range of 82.25- 100.87 % for surface water sample and 72.73- 119.62 % for milk samples. Herein, spore@Cu-trimesic acid (TMA) biocomposites were prepared by self-assembling Cu-based metal-organic framework on the surface of Bacillus velezensis spores. The laccase-like activity of spore@Cu-TMA biocomposites was enhanced by 14.9 times compared with that of pure spores due to the reaction of Cu 2+ ions with laccase on the spore surface and the microporous structure of Cu-TMA shell promoting material transport and increasing substrate accessibility. Spore@Cu-TMA rapidly oxidized and transformed 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) into ABTS ●+ without using H 2 O 2 . Under optimum conditions, the ABTS ●+ could be stored for 21 days at 4 °C and 7 days at 37 °C without the addition of any stabilizers, allowing for the large-scale preparation and long-term storage of ABTS ●+ . The ultrarobust stable ABTS ●+ obtained with the use of Cu-TMA could effectively reduce the "back reaction" by preventing the leaching of the metabolites released by the spores. On the basis of these findings, a rapid, low-cost, and eco-friendly colorimetric platform was successfully developed for the detection of antioxidant capacity. Determination of antioxidant capacity for several antioxidants such as caffeic acid, glutathione, and Trolox revealed their corresponding limits of detection at 4.83, 8.89, and 7.39 nM, respectively, with linear ranges of 0.01-130, 0.01-140, and 0.01-180 μM, respectively. Background: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are endocrine disruptors resulting from incomplete combustion. Pregnancy represents a particularly vulnerable period to such exposures, given the significant influence of hormone physiology on fetal growth and pregnancy outcomes. Maternal thyroid hormones play crucial roles in fetal development and pregnancy outcomes. However, limited studies have examined gestational PAH exposure and maternal thyroid hormones during pregnancy., Methods: Our study included 439 women enrolled in the LIFECODES birth cohort in Boston, aiming to explore the relationship between urinary PAH metabolites and thyroid hormones throughout pregnancy. Urine samples for PAH metabolite analysis and plasma samples for thyroid hormone were measured up to four visits throughout gestation. Single pollutant analyses employed linear mixed effect models to investigate individual associations between each PAH metabolite and thyroid hormone concentration. Sensitivity analyses were conducted to assess potential susceptibility windows and fetal-sex-specific effects of PAH exposure. Mixture analyses utilized quantile g-computation to evaluate the collective impact of eight PAH metabolites on thyroid hormone concentrations. Additionally, Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) was employed to explore potential non-linear associations and interactions between PAH metabolites. Subject-specific random intercepts were incorporated to address intra-individual correlation of serial measurements over time in both single pollutant and mixture analyses., Results: Our findings revealed positive trends in associations between PAH metabolites and thyroid hormones, both individually and collectively as a mixture. Sensitivity analyses indicated that these associations were influenced by the study visit and fetal sex. Pore type and pore structure evolves systematically across continuous black shale weathering profile. However, the extend and process of pore structure change is still an enigma. In this study, we try to unveil the pore structure evolution during weathering process through studying Cambrian Hetang shales in southern China. Fourteen shale samples, from protolith zone (PZ), fractured and weathered shale zone (FWZ), and saprolite zone (SZ), were collected to elucidate how porosity and pore structure develop during black shale weathering under subtropical condition. Through low pressure argon (Ar) gas adsorption (LP-ArGA), high pressure mercury intrusion (HPMI), nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) and field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) observation, the results reveal significant differences in physical properties and pore structures among the PZ, FWZ, and SZ samples. Specifically, compared to PZ, FWZ and SZ samples are characterized by higher clay mineral content, lower organic matter (OM), and the absence of carbonates and pyrite. Total porosity, determined through HPMI and NMR, exhibits a gradual increase from PZ (6.70 % and 6.41 %) to FWZ (20.47 % and 13.45 %) and SZ (23.22 % and 12.48 %). Ar adsorption isotherms indicate a change in pore type from predominantly ink-bottle and slit-shaped in the PZ to mainly slit-shaped in FWZ and SZ. Integrated analysis of LP-ArGA, HPMI, NMR and SEM observation suggests a substantial decrease in the contribution of micropores to total pore volume (PV) and a concurrent increase in larger pores (meso-macropores) with the increase of weathering intensity. This results in smoother surfaces of micro-transition pores but rougher surfaces of macropores. Changes in mineralogy composition during weathering play a crucial role in influencing pore structure of shales and further accelerating the release and migration of toxic elements in black shale. The undesirable and inevitable adhesion of marine organisms on submerged surfaces has seriously affect the environment, economy and society, so emerging and promising strategies for antifouling are required. Here, the novel and environmental strategy of the antibacterial and antialgal materials was proposed for the application of the antifouling coating without releasing harmful substances. The environment-friendly antifouling agent, the capsaicin derivative N-(2,5-dihydroxy-4-acrylamide meth-ylbenzyl)acrylamide (PHABA), was modified to the molecular chain of the polyurethane. The best tensile strength was up to 23.5 MPa of PUP-25% and the elongation at break was 415% of PUP-25%. The excellent wear resistance (300 wear cycles) and chemical solution resistance (H 2 SO 4 , NaOH, and NaCl solutions) revealed the applicability of the coating. PHABA would migrate to the surface of the polyurethane coating with time and enhanced the antibacterial and antialgal properties of the coating. Background & Aims: NOTCH signaling in liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) regulates liver fibrosis, a pathological feature of chronic liver diseases. POFUT1 is an essential regulator of NOTCH signaling. Here, we investigated the role of LSEC-expressed POFUT1 in liver fibrosis., Methods: Endothelial-specific Pofut1 knockout mice were generated and experimental liver fibrosis was induced by chronic carbon tetrachloride exposure or common bile duct ligation. Liver samples were assessed by ELISA, histology, electron microscopy, immunostaining and RNA in situ hybridization. LSECs and hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) were isolated for gene expression analysis by RNA sequencing, qPCR, and western blotting. Signaling crosstalk between LSECs and HSCs was investigated by treating HSCs with supernatant from LSEC cultures. Liver single-cell RNA sequencing datasets from patients with cirrhosis and healthy individuals were analyzed to evaluate the clinical relevance of gene expression changes observed in mouse studies., Results: POFUT1 loss promoted injury-induced LSEC capillarization and HSC activation, leading to aggravated liver fibrosis. RNA sequencing analysis revealed that POFUT1 deficiency upregulated fibrinogen expression in LSECs. Consistently, fibrinogen was elevated in LSECs of patients with cirrhosis. HSCs treated with supernatant from LSECs of Pofut1 null mice showed exacerbated activation compared to those treated with supernatant from control LSECs, and this effect was attenuated by knockdown of fibrinogen or by pharmacological inhibition of fibrinogen receptor signaling, altogether suggesting that LSEC-derived fibrinogen induced the activation of HSCs. Mechanistically, POFUT1 loss augmented fibrinogen expression by enhancing NOTCH/HES1/STAT3 signaling., Conclusions: Endothelial POFUT1 prevents injury-induced liver fibrosis by repressing the expression of fibrinogen, which functions as a profibrotic paracrine signal to activate HSCs. Therapies targeting the POFUT1/fibrinogen axis offer a promising strategy for the prevention and treatment of fibrotic liver diseases., Impact and Implications: Paracrine signals produced by liver vasculature play a major role in the development of liver fibrosis, which is a pathological hallmark of most liver diseases. Identifying those paracrine signals is clinically relevant in that they may serve as therapeutic targets. In this study, we discovered that genetic deletion of Pofut1 aggravated experimental liver fibrosis in mouse models. Moreover, fibrinogen was identified as a downstream target repressed by Pofut1 in liver endothelial cells and functioned as a novel paracrine signal that drove liver fibrosis. The brominated flame retardant 1,2-bis(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy) ethane (BTBPE) widely used in manufacturing is inevitably released into the environment, resulting in the exposure of organisms to BTBPE. Therefore, it is particularly important to explore its toxic mechanism. The liver is one of the main accumulating organs of BTBPE, but the mechanism underlying BTBPE hepatotoxicity has not been thoroughly investigated. In our study, BTBPE was administered to Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats and rat hepatocytes (BRL cells) in vivo and in vitro, respectively, and HE staining, AO/EB staining, fluorescent probes, qPCR, immunofluorescence, and dual-luciferase reporter assays were performed. We investigated the mechanism of action of growth arrest-specific 5 (GAS5), miR-743a-5p, and NUAK family kinase 1 (NUAK1) in BTBPE-induced necroptosis from the perspective of competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) using NUAK1 inhibitors, siRNAs, mimics, and overexpression plasmids. Our study showed that exposure to BTBPE caused necroptosis in the liver and BRL cells, accompanied by an oxidation-reduction imbalance and an inflammatory response. It is worth noting that NUAK1 is a newly discovered upstream regulatory target for necroptosis. In addition, miR-743a-5p was shown to inhibit necroptosis by targeting NUAK1 and down-regulating NUAK1. GAS5 upregulates NUAK1 expression by competitively binding to miR-743a-5p, thereby inducing necroptosis. This study demonstrated, for the first time, that the GAS5-miR-743a-5p-NUAK1 axis is involved in the regulation of necroptosis via ceRNAs. The soil pollution caused by cadmium (Cd) poses a significant threat to the environment. Therefore, identifying plants that can effectively remediate Cd-contaminated soils is urgently needed. In this study, physiological, cytological, and transcriptome analyses were performed to comprehensively understand the changes in Artemisia argyi under Cd stress. Physiological and cytological analyses indicated that A. argyi maintained normal growth with intact cell structure under Cd stress levels up to 10 mg/kg. Cytological analysis showed that Cd precipitation in leaf cells occurred in the cytoplasm and intercellular spaces. As the levels of Cd stress increased, proline accumulation in leaves increased, whereas soluble protein and soluble sugar initially increased, followed by a subsequent decline. The translocation factor was above 1 under 0.6 mg/kg Cd stress but decreased when it exceeded this concentration. Transcriptome analyses revealed several crucial Cd-influenced pathways, including amino acid, terpenoid, flavonoid, and sugar metabolisms. Severe air pollution tends to occur under stagnant weather conditions. This study focused on the occurrence and formation of PM 2.5 -bound polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs) under stagnant weather conditions, in consideration of their adverse human health effect and ecological toxicity. The concentrations of PACs were higher under stagnant weather conditions than in other situations with averaged values of 46.0 ng/m 3 versus 12.3-39.9 ng/m 3 for total PACs. Secondary formation contributed to over half of the oxygenated and nitrated polycyclic aromatic compounds (OPAHs and NPAHs). Further analyses revealed different formation mechanisms for secondary OPAHs and NPAHs. Secondary production of OPAHs was sensitive to the variations of both temperature (T) and O 3 concentration at T < 22 °C but sustained at a high level despite the fluctuation of temperature and O 3 concentration at T > 22 °C. Elevated NO 2 concentrations favored the formation of inorganic nitrogen-containing products over NPAHs under lower temperature and higher humidity. Stagnant weather events, accompanied by raised PAC levels occurred in all seasons, but their effects on secondary processes differed among seasons. The elevated temperature, lowered humidity, and increased NO 2 level facilitated the secondary formation of OPAHs and/or NPAHs during the stagnant weather events in spring and summer. While under the temperature and humidity conditions in autumn and winter, increased NO 2 levels during stagnant weather events promoted the production of secondary inorganic nitrogen-containing compounds over organic products. Objective: To investigate the effect of intermittent parathyroid hormone (iPTH) administration on pathological new bone formation during treatment of ankylosing spondylitis-related osteoporosis., Methods: Animal models with pathological bone formation caused by hypothetical AS pathogenesis received treatment with iPTH. We determined the effects of iPTH on bone loss and the formation of pathological new bone with micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and histological examination. In addition, the tamoxifen-inducible conditional knockout mice (CAGGCre-ER TM ; PTH flox/flox , PTH-/-) was established to delete PTH and investigate the effect of endogenous PTH on pathological new bone formation., Results: iPTH treatment significantly improved trabecular bone mass in the modified collagen-induced arthritis (m-CIA) model and unbalanced mechanical loading models. Meanwhile, iPTH treatment did not enhance pathological new bone formation in all types of animal models. Objective: To evaluate the characteristics of serous retinal detachment on spectral-domain optical coherence tomography in preeclampsia., Methods: In this retrospective case-series study, clinical characteristics of retinal damage were evaluated using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) imaging., Results: Thirty affected eyes from 16 pregnant women with preeclampsia were included. The features of serous retinal detachment, observed using SD-OCT, consisted of lesions located in the macular or peripapillary region; the presence of intraretinal or subretinal fluid (intraretinal fluid, IRF; subretinal fluid, SRF); ellipsoid zone integrity (normal/abnormal); intraretinal hyper-reflective dots; and Elschnig spots (retinal pigment epithelium lesions). Of the 30 affected eyes, 25 (83.33%) had lesions located in the macular region, 19 (63.33%) outside the macula (in the peripapillary region), and 14 (46.67%) in both. SD-OCT showed IRF in 2 eyes (6.67%), SRF in 30 eyes (100.00%), and both in 2 eyes (6.67%). Caramel color is a widely used food pigment, and 2-Acetyl-4-tetrahydroxybutylimidazole (THI) is a by-products of Class III caramel color. Some studies have shown that THI can reduce the number of peripheral blood lymphocytes. However, the comprehensive mechanism of THI immunotoxicity requires further study. In this study, the effects of THI on lymphocyte count, humoral immunity, cellular immunity and nonspecific immunity were determined and the effect of the nutritional status of VB6 on THI immunotoxicity was evaluated. Female BALB/c mice were divided into 3 groups and fed chow containing different doses of VB6: VB6-normal (6 mg/kg VB6), VB6-deprived (0.5 mg/kg VB6) or VB6-enhanced (12 mg/kg VB6) feed. Each group was further divided into 4 subgroups and treated with THI (0.5, 2.5 or 12.5 mg/kg bw) or the solvent control by gavage for 30 days. The thymic cortical thickness was measured with ViewPoint; the proportions of major immune cells and T cells in peripheral blood and tissues were detected via flow cytometry; the transformation and proliferation abilities of T and B cells were detected via T and B lymphocyte proliferation assays; NK cell activity was assessed via lactate dehydrogenase assays; humoral immune function was assessed via plaque-forming cell assays; and the immune function of T lymphocytes was assessed via delayed type hypersensitivity assays. The results showed that compared with those in the corresponding control group, the white blood cell count and lymphocyte count decreased significantly in all the VB6-deprived groups, in the 2.5 and 12.5 mg/kg VB6 groups, and in the 12.5 mg/kg VB6-enhanced group. With increasing THI dose, the thymic cortical layer became thinner. In the thymus, THI increased the proportions of CD3+ T cells and mature CD8+ T cells and decreased the proportions of immature double-positive, double-negative T cells and CD69-expressing lymphocytes. The proportions of naïve T cells and Tcm (central memory T) cells related to homing decreased. The proportion of mature T cells in the spleen decreased significantly. The proliferation of T cells stimulated by ConA decreased after THI exposure. VB6-deficient mice were more sensitive to THI immunotoxicity, and supplementation with VB6 had a certain protective effect on these mice. A novel lanthanide metal-organic-gel (MOG)-derived material/nitrogen-doped graphdiyne (Tb-Ru-MOG/CeO 2 /N-GDY) composite with a dual-source signal amplification strategy was prepared and used to construct a molecularly imprinted sensor based on bifunctional monomers for the detection of imidacloprid (IMI) using electrochemiluminescence (ECL). In a green reaction environment, terbium (III) (Tb 3+ ) can undergo multiple coordination reactions with 4'-(4-carboxyphenyl)-2,2':6',2″-terpyridine (Hcptpy) and tris(4,4'-dicarboxylicacid-2,2'-bipyridyl) ruthenium (II) dichloride (Ru(dcbpy) 3 2+ ), and combine with ceria nanoparticles (CeO 2 NPs) to form Tb-Ru-MOG/CeO 2 . Within the Tb-Ru-MOG/CeO 2 framework, energy transfer from the double ligands can sensitize the central Tb 3+ , triggering a distinct antenna effect and energy-transfer, and its polyporous configuration offered a nanoconfined space for Ce 3+ /Ce 4+ to effectively catalyze coreactant radicals (S 2 O 8 2- ), leading to in-situ endogenous activation ECL reactions. The conductive N-GDY accelerated electron movement and increased the loading on the electrode surface, enhancing the exogenous excitation of the ECL signals. Introduction: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for digital pathology tools became more urgent. However, there needs to be more knowledge of the use in cytology. We aimed to evaluate current digital cytology practices and attitudes and compare the results with a pre-COVID-19 American Society of Cytopathology (ASC) survey., Materials and Methods: Fourteen survey questions assessing current attitudes toward digital cytology were developed from a 2016 ASC Digital Pathology Survey. Ten new survey questions were also created to evaluate telecytology use. The survey was e-mailed to ASC members over 6 weeks in 2023., Results: A total of 123 individuals responded (116 in 2016). Attitudes toward digital cytology were unchanged; most participants stated digital cytology is beneficial (87% 2023 versus 90% 2016). The percentage of individuals using digital cytology was unchanged (56% in 2016 and 2023). However, telecytology for rapid onsite assessment (ROSE) is now considered the best application (55% 2023 versus 31% 2016). Forty-three institutions reported using digital and telecytology tools; 40% made implementations after 2020; most did not feel that COVID-19 affected digital cytology (56%). Telecytology for ROSE is the most common application now (78%) compared with education (30%) in 2016. Limitations for implementing digital imaging in cytology included inability to focus (38%) and expense (33%)., Conclusions: General attitudes toward digital tools by the cytology community have essentially remained the same between 2016 and now. Introduction: Thoracic cytology can be challenging due to limited procured material or overlapping morphology between benign and malignant entities. In such cases, expert consultation might be sought. This study aimed to characterize all pulmonary and pleural cytology consult cases submitted to our practice and provide recommendations on approaching difficult cases., Materials and Methods: All thoracic (pulmonary and pleural) cytology cases submitted for expert consultation to the University of Michigan (MLabs) from 2013 to mid-2022 were reviewed. Cases where cytology was only part of a hematopathology or surgical pathology consult were excluded. Patient demographics, specimen location, procedure performed, referring diagnosis, and our diagnoses were recorded for each case. Diagnoses were categorized according to the Papanicolaou Society of Cytopathology recommendations for pulmonary and effusion cytology. Discordant diagnoses were stratified as major or minor. Data was analyzed using chi-square analysis and logistic models., Results: We received 784 thoracic cytology consult cases, including 530 exfoliative samples and 307 fine-needle aspirations. The most common anatomic locations sampled were the bronchial wall (n = 194, 23%), lung nodule (n = 322, 38%), and pleura (n = 296, 35%). 413 cases had a diagnostic discrepancy (48.3%), with 274 (66%) minor and 139 (34%) major discrepancies. By location, pleural effusion specimens had the highest probability of a discrepant diagnosis (P = 0.003). By specimen type, fine-needle aspiration samples were significantly more likely to have a discrepant diagnosis (P = 0.06)., Conclusion: Nearly half of the thoracic cytology cases submitted for expert second opinion had diagnostic discrepancies. Fractures are frequent and severe musculoskeletal injuries. This study aimed to investigate the function of tenascin-C (TNC) in regulating chondrogenic during fracture healing and elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms. A well-established femur fracture model in male C57BL/6J mice was used to transect the middle diaphysis of the femur. To identify the essential role of TNC, shTNC lentiviruses or TNC protein were administered in the animal model. Micro-CT analysis, histologic analysis, immunostaining assays, and gene expression analysis were employed to investigate the effect of TNC during fracture healing. An in vitro mesenchymal stem cell culture system was developed to investigate the role and molecular mechanism of TNC in regulating chondrogenesis. TNC expression was induced at the inflammatory phase and peaked at the cartilaginous callus phase during fracture healing. Knockdown of TNC expression in callus results in decreased callus formation and impaired fracture healing. Conversely, administration of exogenous TNC promoted chondrogenic differentiation, cartilage template formation and ultimately improved fracture healing. Both the Hedgehog and Hippo signaling pathways were found to be involved in the pro-chondrogenic function of TNC. Salmonella is a major foodborne pathogen and the cause of significant morbidity and mortality via consumption of contaminated meat and meat-products. The prevalence of Salmonella in ducks and wild geese in China are poorly characterized and these sources represent a potential pool that could be transferred to farm-reared fowl. In this study, we isolated 335 (18.3%) Salmonella from 1830 samples and identified 24 serotypes and most prevalent were Salmonella Indiana, Salmonella Kentucky and Salmonella Typhimurium. Whole genome sequencing revealed the presence of the dominant sequence types ST17, ST198 and ST19 for these three serotypes, respectively. In addition, these isolates were most likely clonally spread across different regions while S. Kentucky also crossed the species barrier. The majority of the Salmonella isolates possessed β-lactam and fluoroquinolone resistance and these were consistent with antibiotic resistance gene profiles. We also identified 8 plasmid replicon types and all isolates possessed virulence genes and the numbers were greatest for S. Enteritidis and S. Typhimurium isolates. Depression is a common disease that affects physical and mental health and imposes a considerable burden on afflicted individuals and their families worldwide. Depression is associated with a high rate of disability and suicide. It causes a severe decline in productivity and quality of life. Unfortunately, the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying depression have not been fully elucidated, and the risk of its treatment is still presented. Studies have shown that the expression of autophagic markers in the brain and peripheral inflammatory mediators are dysregulated in depression. Autophagy-related genes regulate the level of autophagy and change the inflammatory response in depression. Depression is related to several aspects of immunity. The regulation of the immune system and inflammation by autophagy may lead to the development or deterioration of mental disorders. Chlorocholine chloride (CCC) is a plant growth regulator used worldwide that is detectable in cereals, fruits and animal products. The health effects of CCC exposure have raised public concern. Our previous research showed that CCC exposure decreased testosterone synthesis in pubertal rats. However, little is known about whether and how pubertal CCC exposure impacts spermatogenesis. In this study, we used BALB/c mice and spermatogonia-derived GC-1 cells to examine CCC-induced spermatogenic dysfunction. In vivo, pubertal CCC exposure led to decreased testicular weight, decreased testicular germ cells and poor sperm quality. This effect worsened after cessation of CCC exposure for the next 30 days. RNA-seq and western blot analysis revealed that CCC induced aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) signaling, endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and ferritinophagy. Increased iron content and lipid peroxidation levels were also observed in CCC-treated testes. In vitro, it was identified that iron overload mediated by enhanced ferritinophagy occurred in CCC-treated GC-1 cells, which might be attributed to the PERK pathway in ERS. Further, for the first time, our study elucidated the involvement of AhR in CCC-induced iron overload, which aggravated testicular oxidative damage via lipid peroxidation. Background: Methamphetamine (MA) use increases the risk of age-related diseases. However, it remains uncertain whether MA use exhibits accelerated biological aging, as indicated by telomere length (TL), a proposed marker of aging. Here we conducted studies in both humans and rats to investigate the association between MA use and TL., Methods: We recruited 125 male MA users and 66 healthy controls, aged 30-40 years. MA users were diagnosed using DSM-5 criteria and categorized into two groups: non-severe (n = 78) and severe (n = 47) MA use disorder (MUD). MA-treated conditioned place preference (CPP) rats were utilized to validate our clinical investigations. TL was assessed using real-time polymerase chain reaction., Results: At clinical levels, MA users exhibited significantly shorter leukocyte TL compared to healthy controls. Among MA users, individuals with severe MUD had significantly shorter leukocyte TL than those with non-severe MUD. Importantly, both univariate and multivariate linear regression analyses demonstrated a negative association between the severity of MA use and leukocyte TL. In a rat model of MA-induced CPP, leukocyte TL was also significantly shortened after MA administration, especially in rats with higher CPP expression or reinstatement scores., Conclusion: MA use shortened TL, and the severity of MA use was negatively correlated with TL. Tire wear particles (TWPs) are commonly studied for their exudation toxicity, yet a critical knowledge gap exists regarding the source nature and migration of these particulate pollutants, hindering comprehensive environmental risk assessments. This study explores the pristine properties of three typical TWPs (rolling friction (R-TWPs), sliding friction (S-TWPs), and cryogenically milled tire treads (C-TWPs)) and their aging characteristics after incubation in runoff (primary aging) and sewage (further aging). Our investigation aims to unveil the intrinsic mechanisms of TWPs ecotoxicity towards freshwater biofilms. Results reveal that the generation modes significantly impact pristine physicochemical properties, including surface structure, particle size, and EPFR abundance. These factors, in turn, influence acute ecotoxicity, as evidenced by cell mortality, antioxidant enzyme activity responses, and metabolic changes in freshwater biofilms. The ecological toxicity ranking of pristine exposure groups is S-TWPs, R-TWPs, and C-TWPs, attributed to variations in surface properties and particle size. Following incubation and aging, especially in sewage, differences in physicochemical properties among TWPs types diminish. Alarmingly, ecotoxicity intensifies and becomes consistent across TWPs types, driven by the screening of small particles during water incubation aging and the formation of EPFRs on TWPs surfaces stimulated by photosensitive organic matter or groups. Pyrite and humic acid are common substances in nature, and the combined effects of pyrite and humic acid on arsenic phytotoxicity are more widespread in the actual environments than that of a single substance, but have received less attention. In this study, the interaction between pyrite and humic acid in arsenate solution was studied, and the effects of pyrite and humic acid on plant toxicity of arsenate were evaluated. The results showed that arsenate + pyrite + fulvic acid (V-PF) treatment immobilized more arsenic by forming chemical bonds such as AsS and Fe-As-O and reduced the migration of arsenic to plants. Compared to the arsenate + fulvic acid (VF), arsenate + pyrite (VP) and arsenate (V) group, the inorganic arsenic content of lettuce leaves in the V- PF group was reduced by 19.8 %, 13.4 % and 13.4 %, respectively. In addition, the V-PF group increased the absorption of Ca, Fe and Cu in plant roots, and improved the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in plant leaves. Compared to the VF group, SOD and MDA in the V-PF group increased by 34.1 % in 30 days and decreased by 47.3 % in 40 days, respectively. The biomass of lettuce in V-PF group was increased by 29.3 % compared with that in VF group on day 50. The protein content of the V-PF group was 58.3 % higher than that of the VF group and 23.1 % higher than that of the VP group. Furthermore, metabolomics analysis showed that the V-PF group promoted glycolysis by up-regulating glyoxylic acid and dicarboxylic acid metabolism, thus reducing carbohydrate accumulation. Phosphocreatine metabolism was also up-regulated, which decreased the oxidative damage in lettuce induced by arsenic. Background and Aims: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has the highest mortality rate among malignant tumors worldwide. This study aimed to analyze the biological characteristics of serum proteins in hepatitis B (HBV)-related liver diseases, identify diagnostic biomarkers for HBV-infected HCC, and provide a scientific basis for its prevention and treatment., Materials and Methods: We used HuProt arrays to identify candidate biomarkers for HBV-related liver diseases and verified the differential biomarkers by using an HCC-focused array. The biological characteristics of serum proteins were analyzed via bioinformatics. Serum biomarkers levels were validated by ELISA., Results: We identified 547 differentially expressed proteins from HBV-infected HCC in a screening cohort. After analyzing the biological characteristics of serum proteins, we identified 10 potential differential autoantibodies against tumor-associated antigens (TAAbs) and a candidate biomarker panel (APEX2, RCSD1, and TP53) for the diagnosis of HBV-associated HCC with 61.9% sensitivity and 81.7% specificity in an HCC-focused array validation cohort. Finally, the protein levels and diagnostic capability of the biomarker panel were confirmed in a large-sample validation cohort, and this panel was found to be superior to alpha-fetoprotein, the standard hallmark for the diagnosis of HCC., Conclusion: The APEX2, RCSD1, and TP53 biomarker panels could be used for the diagnosis of HBV-associated HCC, providing a scientific basis for clinical practice., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier B.V. High levels of selenium (Se) uptakes negatively affect plant growth. In this study, the possible molecular mechanism for the effects of abscisic acid (ABA) on Se absorption, metabolism and toxicity in Cyphomandra betacea Sendt. (Solanum betaceum Cav.) young plants were investigated. Se+ABA treatment promoted significant Se absorption in C. betacea while impeding plant growth as compared to Se treatment. The expression levels of sulfate/phosphate transporter protein genes indicated that Se+ABA triggered more S/Se absorption and transportation into chloroplast. Furthermore, Se+ABA promoted higher metabolisms of inorganic sulfur (S)/Se and organic S/Se. The organic Se might be in several forms (SeCysth, SeCys and SeMet) in Se+ABA treatment, whereas SeCysth was the major organic form in Se treatment. More reactive oxygen species production was suggested in Se+ABA treatment from a series of genes involved in antioxidant enzymes and molecules, including superoxide dismutase, peroxiredoxin, glutathione sulfur-transferase and glutathione. Se+ABA further improved the expression levels of genes involved in biosynthesis and signaling transduction genes involved in stress-related phytohormones (jasmonic acid and salicylic acid). Novel brominated flame retardants are widely used in electronics, textiles, furniture, and other products; they can enter the human body through ingestion and respiration and cause harm to the human body, and have been proven to have potential biological toxicity and accumulation effects. 1,2-bis(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy) ethane (BTBPE) is a widely used novel brominated flame retardant; however, there is a lack of research on its mechanism of toxicity, particularly that of intestinal toxicity. Currently, studies on the functionality of iroquois homeobox 3 (IRX3) are extremely limited. In our study, BTBPE was administered to Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats and rat small intestinal crypt epithelial cells (IEC6 cells) in vivo and in vitro, respectively, and hematoxylin and eosin (HE), immunohistochemical, Alcian blue-periodic acid-Schiff (AB-PAS), CCK8, acridine orange/ethidium bromide (AO/EB), fluorescent probes, qPCR, western blotting, and immunofluorescence analyses were performed. To explore the damage mechanism of BTBPE, we used siRNA to silence IRX3 and iNOs-IN-1 (yeast extract-peptone-wheat; YPW) to inhibit nitric oxide synthase 2 (NOS2). The results showed that BTBPE exposure caused inflammation and necroptosis in the jejunum and ileum, as well as destruction of the tight junctions and mucus layer. Moreover, BTBPE activated the IRX3/NOS2 axis both in vivo and in vitro. Silencing IRX3 or inhibiting NOS2 inhibits necroptosis and restores tight junctions in IEC6 cells. In conclusion, our study found that in the jejunum, ileum, and IEC6 cells, BTBPE exposure caused necroptosis and tight junction destruction by activating the IRX3/NOS2 axis. Blocking the IRX3/NOS2 axis can effectively inhibit necroptosis and restore tight junction. In addition, BTBPE exposure caused inflammation and loss of the mucous layer in the jejunum and ileum. Bis (2-ethylhexyl) tetrabromophthalate (TBPH) is a new type of brominated flame retardant. Some studies suggest that TBPH exposure may be associated with thyroid damage. However, there is a paucity of research on the authentic exposure-related effects and molecular mechanisms in animals or cells. In this study, we used male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats and the Nthy ori3-1 cell line (the human thyroid follicular epithelial cell) to explore the potential effects of TBPH (5, 50, 500 mg/kg and 1, 10, 100 nM) on the thyroid. The genes and their proteins of cytokines and thyroid-specific proteins, thyroglobulin (TG), thyroid peroxidase (TPO), and sodium iodide cotransporter (NIS) were examined to investigate the possible mechanisms. At the end of the experiment, it was found that 50 and 500 mg/kg TBPH could increase the levels of total thyroxine (TT4) and free thyroxine (FT4) significantly. The messenger RNAs (mRNAs) of Tg, Tpo, Interleukin-6 (Il6), and Interleukin-10 (Il10) in the thyroid tissues from the rats treated with 500 mg/kg were enhanced clearly. Meanwhile, the mRNAs of TG, TPO, IL6, and IL10 were elevated in Nthy ori3-1 cells treated with 100 nM TBPH as well. The mRNAs of TG and TPO were elevated after the knockdown of IL6. To our surprise, after the knockdown of IL10 or the treatment of anti-IL-10-receptor (anti-IL-10-R) antibody, the mRNAs of TG and TPO were significantly reduced, and the effects of TBPH were diminished. Background and Aims: Coronary artery calcification (CAC) is a crucial pathophysiological characteristic of atherosclerosis. The association between lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] and CAC is inconsistent. We aimed to assess the relationship between Lp(a) and CAC by exploring the association between elevated Lp(a) and CAC prevalence, the relationship between Lp(a) level and CAC prevalence, and the correlation between elevated Lp(a) and CAC progression., Methods: We searched the PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE databases up to November 01, 2023. Studies exploring the association between serum Lp(a) and CAC (quantified using the Agatston score) were included. Association between Lp(a) level or elevated Lp(a) (higher than the cutoff values of 30 mg/dL, 50 mg/dL, or the highest quartile ranging from 33 to 38.64 mg/dL) and prevalence [CAC score >0 or >100, log (CAC score+1) >0] or progression (an increase in CAC score >0 or ≥100) of CAC were analysed. Odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were calculated using a random-effects model., Results: 40,073 individuals from 17 studies were included. Elevated Lp(a) was associated with a higher prevalence of CAC (OR, 1.31; 95% CI, 1.06 to 1.61; p = 0.01). As a continuous variable, Lp(a) level was positively correlated with the prevalence of CAC (OR, 1.05; 95% CI, 1.02 to 1.08; p = 0.003). Furthermore, elevated Lp(a) was associated with greater CAC progression (OR, 1.54; 95% CI, 1.23 to 1.92; p = 0.0002)., Conclusions: This meta-analysis suggested that Lp(a) is associated with prevalence and progression of CAC. Background: Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of synthetic chemicals widely used in consumer and industrial products. Numerous studies have linked prenatal PFAS exposures to increased risks of adverse pregnancy outcomes such as preterm birth (PTB) and small-for-gestational age (SGA).However, limited evidence is available for the effects of PFAS on PTB subtypes and large-for-gestational age (LGA)., Objective: To examine the associations of PFAS with PTB [overall, placental (pPTB), spontaneous (sPTB)], BW Z-score, and size-for-gestational age (SGA, LGA)., Methods: Our nested case-control study included 128 preterm cases and 373 term controls from the LIFECODES cohort between 2006 and 2008 (n = 501). Plasma concentrations of nine PFAS were measured in early pregnancy samples. Logistic regression was used to assess individual PFAS-birth outcome associations, while Bayesian Kernel Machine Regression (BKMR) was used to evaluate the joint effects of all PFAS. Effect modification by fetal sex was examined, and stratified analyses were conducted to obtain fetal sex-specific estimates., Results: Compared to term births, the odds of pPTB were higher from an interquartile range increase in perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA) (OR = 1.60, 95% CI: 1.00-2.56), perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA) (OR = 1.67, 95% CI: 1.06-2.61), and perfluoroundecanoic acid (PFUA) (OR = 1.77, 95% CI: 1.00-3.12), with stronger associations observed in women who delivered males. BKMR analysis identified PFNA as the most important PFAS responsible for pPTB (conditional PIP = 0.78), with increasing ORs at higher percentiles of PFAS mixture. For LGA, positive associations were observed with PFDA and perfluorooctanoic acid in females only, and with PFUA in males only. BKMR analysis showed increasing, but null effects of PFAS mixture on LGA., Conclusions: The effect of prenatal exposure to single and multiple PFAS on PTB and LGA depended on fetal sex. In this paper, we focus on addressing the air supply problem for fuel cells. The air supply system faces a challenge: operating at maximum load consumes a significant amount of power, while insufficient air can lead to oxygen starvation problems in fuel cells. An important metric, the oxygen excess ratio, indicates whether the fuel cell is receiving the appropriate amount of air. Unfortunately, directly measuring this ratio is generally impractical. To overcome this limitation, we propose a fixed-time observer that reconstructs the oxygen excess ratio within a short predetermined period. By utilizing this reconstructed index, we introduce a cascaded double-loop controller. Specifically, both the external and internal loops are regulated using a modified prescribed time control strategy. This approach enables the regulation of the oxygen excess ratio to the optimal value within a prescribed short time. Purpose: Aluminum is an environmental toxicant whose long-term exposure is closely associated with nervous system impairment. This study mainly investigated neurological impairment induced by subchronic aluminum exposure via activating NLRP3-medicated pyroptosis pathway., Methods: In vivo, Kunming mice were exposed to AlCl 3 (30.3 mg/kg, 101 mg/kg and 303 mg/kg) via drinking water for 3 months, and administered with Rsv (100 mg/kg) by gavage for 1 month. Cognitive impairment was assessed by Morris water maze test, and pathological injury was detected via H&E staining. BBB integrity, pyroptosis and neuroinflammation were evaluated through western blotting and immunofluorescence methods. In vitro, BV2 microglia was treated with AlCl 3 (0.5 mM, 1 mM and 2 mM) to sensitize pyroptosis pathway. The protein interaction was verified by co-immunoprecipitation, and neuronal damage was estimated via a conditioned medium co-culture system with BV2 and TH22 cells., Results: Our results showed that AlCl 3 induced mice memory disorder, BBB destruction, and pathological injury. Besides, aluminum caused glial activation, sensitized DDX3X-NLRP3 pyroptosis pathway, released cytokines IL-1β and IL-18, initiating neuroinflammation. BV2 microglia treated with AlCl 3 emerged hyperactivation and pyroptotic death, and Ddx3x knockdown inhibited pyroptosis signaling pathway. DDX3X acted as a live-or-die checkpoint in stressed cells by regulating NLRP3 inflammasome and G3BP1 stress granules. Furthermore, aluminum-activated microglia had an adverse effect on co-cultured neurons and destroyed nervous system homeostasis., Conclusion: Aluminum exposure could induce pyroptosis and neurotoxicity. PM2.5 still poses a threat to public health even at very low levels. Black carbon (BC) is a key component of PM2.5. Macrophage extracellular traps (METs) are a means by which macrophages capture and destroy invading pathogens. Necroptosis is an inflammatory programmed cell death. However, there is no research on the crosstalk mechanism between necroptosis and METs after BC exposure. In our study, fluorescence labeling, fluorescent probes, qPCR, and immunofluorescence were applied. Our research found that under normal physiological conditions, when macrophages receive external stimuli (in our experiment, phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA)), they will form METs, thus exhibiting innate immune function. However, exposure to BC can cause necroptosis in macrophages accompanied by increased levels of ROS and cytosolic calcium ions as well as altered expression of inflammatory factors and chemokines that prevent the formation of METs, and weakening innate immune function. Notably, inhibition of necroptosis restored the formation of METs, indicating that necroptosis inhibits the formation of METs. Our experiment will enrich the understanding of the mechanism of macrophage injury caused by BC exposure, provide a new direction for studying harmful atmospheric particle toxicity, and propose new therapeutic insights for diseases caused by atmospheric particulate matter. 2-Acetyl-4-tetrahydroxybutylimidazole (THI), a by-product of Class Ⅲ caramel color, is generally recognized to cause lymphopenia in mammals. However, it remains unknown whether THI exposure during gestation and lactation causes damage to the immune system of offspring. In this study, pregnant Balb/c mice were gavaged with 0, 0.5, 2.5 and 12.5 mg/kg THI from gestation day (GD) 6 to postanal day (PND) 21, after which we treated another batch of dams from GD6 to PND21 and the offspring for 3 weeks after weaning with 0, 2, 10, 50 mg/L THI in drinking water respectively, and investigated the immunological anomalies of dams and offspring. The results showed that lymphopenia was observed in dams but not in weaning pups on PND21, which were exposed to THI during gestation and lactation. 2 mg/L THI and 2.5 mg/kg THI began to cause a remarkable reduction of the numbers of white blood cells and lymphocytes in dams. Besides both the cellular and the humoral immune response was not affected in weaning pups, which were measured by plaque-forming cell (PFC) assay and delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) assay respectively. Furthermore, THI could be detected in the plasma of dams with a dose-dependent manner, but not in that of both female and male weaning pups. In both male and female offspring being treated with 10 and 50 mg/L THI for another 3 weeks after weaning, lymphocytopenia was observed and T lymphocytes including CD4 + and CD8 + cells were significantly reduced in their spleens except lymph nodes. 10 and 50 mg/L THI treatment increased CD4 + and CD8 + single positive cells in thymus of female and male weaning mice. Mitogen-induced proliferation ability of T cells in the spleen and lymph nodes was impaired in female weaning mice exposed 50 mg/L THI, while male weaning mice treated with 10 and 50 mg/L THI showed impairment in the spleen but not lymph nodes. Based on the results in this study, no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) for 3-week THI treatment in weaning mice was considered to be 2 mg/L (0.30 mg/kg bw for female mice and 0.34 mg/kg bw for male mice). And NOAEL for THI treatment in dams might be set to 0.5 mg/kg bw/day. In contrast to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) which have been regularly monitored, the source-dependent health risk of their derivatives in ambient environment has not been well understood, especially regarding seasonal variability. In this study, oxygenated and nitrated PAHs (OPAHs and NPAHs) in PM 2.5 samples from different seasons in urban Chongqing were analyzed and compared with PAHs from a human health perspective. Benzo[a]pyrene equivalent concentrations (BaP eq ) were annually averaged at 6.13 ± 8.97 ng/m 3 (n = 118) in the present study, with highest levels in winter followed by spring, autumn, and summer. The BaP eq values of OPAHs were higher than PAHs in spring and summer with seasonal averaged value up to 3.7 times of that for PAHs, manifesting significant underestimation of the health impact if only PAHs were considered. Incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) model results suggested that the potential cancer risks were accumulated mostly from inhalation exposure during infancy and adulthood. Furthermore, in comparison with PAHs, OPAHs, mainly 6H-Benzo[c,d]pyren-6-one, had significant contribution to cancer risks (annually averaged at 58.3 %). Source-dependent cancer risks based on positive matrix factorization model denoted secondary formed PAH derivatives as a critical contributor to cancer risk, particularly in spring and summer (attributed to about 61 % of ILCR). The enhanced secondary formation of PAH derivatives during spring and summer was partially justified by diagnostic ratios and further analysis revealed that higher temperature, higher O 3 level, and lower relative humidity besides stronger solar intensity during these two seasons as the most likely causes of this seasonal variation. The special physicochemical properties of Bi 2 S 3 nanomaterial endow it to be exceptional NO 2 sensing properties. However, sensors based on pure Bi 2 S 3 cannot detect trace NO 2 at room temperature effectively due to the scanty active sites and poor charge transfer efficiency. Herein, vacancy defect and heterostructure engineering are rationally integrated to explore BiOCl/Bi 2 S 3-x heterostructure with rich S vacancies to enhance NO 2 sensing performance. The optimized sensor based on S-vacancy-rich BiOCl/Bi 2 S 3-x heterostructure exhibited a high response value (R g /R a = 29.1) to 1 ppm NO 2 at room temperature, which was about 17 times compared to the pristine Bi 2 S 3 . Meanwhile, the BiOCl/Bi 2 S 3-x sensor also exhibited a short response time (36 s) towards 1 ppm NO 2 and a low theoretical detection limit (2 ppb). The superior response value of S-vacancy-rich BiOCl/Bi 2 S 3-x heterostructures was ascribed to the improved electron migration at the heterointerface and the additional exposed active sites caused by the S vacancies in Bi 2 S 3-x . Additionally, the sensors based on S-vacancy-rich BiOCl/Bi 2 S 3-x heterostructures showed good long-term stability, outstanding selectivity, and good flexibility. Background: A close relationship exists between OSA and obesity. The impact of obesity on the prognostic significance of OSA in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remains unclear., Research Question: Do the effects of OSA on subsequent cardiovascular events in patients with ACS vary with obesity status?, Study Design and Methods: This is a prospective cohort study. Patients 18 to 85 years of age who were hospitalized for ACS were consecutively enrolled and underwent portable sleep monitoring after clinical stabilization. OSA was defined as an apnea hypopnea index ≥ 15 events/h. The primary end point was major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular event (MACCE), including cardiovascular death, hospitalization for ACS, stroke, ischemia-driven revascularization, or hospitalization for heart failure., Results: Among 1,920 patients enrolled (84.5% male; mean age ± SD, 56.4 ± 10.5 years), 1,013 (52.8%) had OSA, and 718 (37.4%) were obese (BMI ≥ 28 kg/m 2 ). During 2.9 years (1.5, 3.6 years) follow-up, the incidence of MACCE was significantly higher in patients with obesity than in patients without obesity (hazard ratio [HR], 1.29; 95% CI, 1.06-1.58; P = .013). Although the prevalence of OSA was lower in patients without obesity than in those with obesity (43.9% vs 67.5%; P < .001), OSA independently predicted the incidence of MACCE only in patients without obesity (adjusted HR, 1.34; 95% CI, 1.03-1.75; P = .03), but not in patients with obesity (adjusted HR, 1.10; 95% CI, 0.78-1.55; P = .58). No significant interaction between obesity and OSA was noted (P for interaction = .35). The incremental risk associated with OSA in patients without obesity might be explained by more hospitalization for ACS and ischemia-driven revascularization., Interpretation: For patients with ACS, OSA was independently associated with an increased risk of subsequent events, particularly among patients without obesity. Radiotherapies are commonly used to target remaining tumor niches after surgery of solid tumors but are restricted due to therapeutic resistance. Several pathways of radioresistance have been reported in various cancers. This study investigates the pivotal role of Nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) in the activation of DNA damage repair in lung cancer cells after x-rays exposure. To explore the NRF2 activation after ionizing irradiations, this study uses a knockdown of NRF2, which shows potential DNA damage after x-rays irradiation in lung cancers. This work further shows that NRF2 knockdown disrupts damaged DNA repair by inhibiting DNA-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit. At the same time, NRF2 knockdown by shRNA considerably disparate homologous recombination by interfering with Rad51 expression. Further investigation of the associated pathway reveals that NRF2 activation mediates DNA damage response via the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway as the knockout of NRF2 directly enhances intracellular MAPK phosphorylation. Similarly, both N-acetylcysteineand constitutive knockout of NRF2 disrupt DNA-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit, while NRF2 knockout failed to upregulate Rad51 expression after irradiation in-vivo. Background: The effectiveness and safety of Huashibaidu granule (HSBD) in treating mild Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 remain to be identified. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of HSBD in mild COVID-19 patients., Methods: A prospective, non-randomized, controlled study in mild COVID-19 patients was conducted in Shanghai, from April 8 to May 6, 2022. The enrolled patients were diagnosed as mild COVID-19. Finally, 360 patients received HSBD, and 368 patients received TCM placebo (administered orally 20 g twice daily for 7 days). The primary endpoints were the negative conversion rate of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) and the negative conversion time. Secondary endpoints included the hospitalized days and the improvement in the clinical condition., Results: The negative conversion rate of SARS-CoV-2 at 7 days posttreatment in the HSBD group was higher than that in the control group (95.28% vs. 82.61%, P < 0.001). The median negative conversion time in the HSBD group was markedly decreased by 2 days compared with the control group (3 [3-6] vs. 5 [4-7], P < 0.001). In addition, the median hospitalized day was shortened in the HSBD group by 1 day compared with the control group (6 [4-7] vs. 7 [5-9], P < 0.001). The clinical improvement rate (275/360 [76.39%]) in the HSBD group within 7 days was significantly higher than that (203/368 [55.16%]) in the control group ( P < 0.001). The improvement of symptom scores in the HSBD group was higher than that in the control group (2 [1-4] vs. 1 [1-2], P < 0.001). Background: The whole herb of Euphorbia helioscopia has been traditionally used for treating pulmonary tuberculosis, malaria, warts, lung cancer and bacillary dysentery for a long time in China. However, E. helioscopia seeds are often discarded and its medicinal value is often ignored, resulting in a waste of resources., Method: In this work, widely targeted metabolomics based on UPLC-ESI-QTRAP-MS/MS methods and metware database (MWDB) were firstly used to identify the chemical compositions of EHS. Besides, network pharmacology, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation were performed for elucidating the potential compounds and targets of E. helioscopia seeds for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis via common database (like TCMSP, Genecards, DAVID, STRING) and common software (like Sybyl, Cytoscape, Pymol and Schrödinger)., Result: The results of widely targeted metabolomics showed 231 compounds including 12 categories were identified. The highest content compositions are lipids (33.89%) followed by amino acids and derivatives (21.78%), nucleotides and derivatives (15.73%), as well as the content of functional ingredients like phenolic acids (7.33%), alkaloids (7.03%) and flavonoids (4.51%) are relatively high. Besides, the results of network pharmacology and molecular docking showed that EHS presented anti-pulmonary fibrosis medicinal value through multi-ingredients, multi-targets and multi-pathways approach. Key ingredients including 9-Hydroxy-12-oxo-15(Z)-octadecenoic acid, Nordihydrocapsiate, 1-O-Salicyl-d-glucose, 9-(Arabinosyl)hypoxanthine, Xanthosine and Galangin-7-O-glucoside. Key targets including SRC, HSP90AA1, AKT1, EGFR, JUN, EP300 and VEGFA, and key signaling pathways mainly related to AGE-RAGE, EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor resistance, VEGF and HIF-1 signaling pathway. Wood is a natural material with low cost and easy recovery, which porous, layered, excellent structure and mechanical properties make it possible to apply in wastewater treatment. We have successfully grown MoS 2 on natural wood containing porous cellulose and introduced the high conductivity circuit path provided by Ni nanoparticles to construct a new piezoelectric three-dimensional wood block for the efficient degradation of tetracycline. Ni/MoS 2 /Wood exhibited excellent piezo-catalytic degradation performance, and the degradation rate of tetracycline reached 95.96 % (k = 0.0411 min -1 ) under ultrasonic vibration. After 5 cycles, the degradation rate still reached 90.20 %. In addition, Ni/MoS 2 /Wood was used as the reactor filler to degrade tetracycline through piezoelectric response triggered by hydrodynamic force, and the degradation rate reached 90.27 % after 60 min. Further, the mechanism and the possible degradation pathways of tetracycline degradation were proposed. With the increasing application of cerium and rare-earth elements (REEs), cerium exposure is becoming more widespread. However, there remains a paucity of evidence on developmental immunotoxicity of cerium. This study was designed to examine the developmental immunotoxicity of gestational and postnatal exposure to cerium nitrate (CN) in BALB/C mouse offspring. Dams were given CN by oral gavage at 0, 0.002, 0.02 and 0.2 mg/kg from gestation day 5 (GD5) to postnatal day 21 (PND 21). On PND 21, the highest dose of CN significantly suppressed the NK cell cytotoxicity, and reduced the proportions of NK cells in peripheral blood and spleen of both female and male pups, however, the proportions of monocytes in peripheral blood and macrophages in spleen only increased in female pups. For adaptive immunity, on PND 21, the suppression of T/B lymphocyte proliferation, humoral and cellular immune responses (number of splenic plaque-forming cells, PFC, and delayed-type hypersensitivity, DTH) were observed in both female and male pup mice exposed to 0.2 mg/kg CN. However, the fall of proportions of T/B lymphocytes in peripheral blood (PB), spleen and mesenteric lymph node (MLN) only found in female pups at 0.2 mg/kg on PND 21. Most indications recovered to normal after 3-week cessation of CN exposure, except the reduction of DTH and PFC. Rivers play a critical role in the global carbon cycle, but the processes can be affected by widespread microplastic (MP) pollution and the increasing frequency of heat waves (HWs) in a warming climate. However, little is known about the role of river microbes in regulating the carbon cycle under the combined action of MP pollution and HWs. Here, through seven-day MP exposure and three cycles of HW simulation experiments, we found that MPs inhibited the thermal adaptation of the microbial community, thus regulating carbon metabolism. The CO 2 release level increased, while the carbon degradation ability and the preference for stable carbon were inhibited. Metabonomic, 16 S rRNA and ITS gene analyses further revealed that the regulation of carbon metabolism was closely related to the microbial r-/K- strategy, community assembly and transformation of keystone taxa. The random forest model revealed that dissolved oxygen and ammonia-nitrogen were important variables influencing microbial carbon metabolism. Black carbon (BC) is an important component of atmospheric PM 2.5 and the second largest contributor to global warming. 1,4-naphthoquinone-coated BC (1,4 NQ-BC) is a secondary particle with great research value, so we chose 1,4 NQ-BC as the research object. In our study, mitochondria and lysosomes were selected as targets to confirm whether they were impaired by 1,4 NQ-BC, label free proteomics technology, fluorescent probes, qRT-PCR and western blots were used to investigate the mechanism of 1,4 NQ-BC toxicity. We found 494 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in mitochondria and 86 DEPs in lysosomes using a proteomics analysis of THP1 cells after 1,4 NQ-BC exposure for 24 h. Through proteomics analysis and related experiments, we found that 1,4 NQ-BC can damage THP-1-M cells by obstructing autophagy, increasing lysosomal membrane permeability, disturbing the balance of ROS, and reducing the mitochondrial membrane potential. It is worth noting that 1,4 NQ-BC prevented the removal of FTL by inhibiting autophagy, and increased IL-33 level by POR/FTL/IL-33 axis. We first applied proteomics to study the damage mechanism of 1,4 NQ-BC on THP1 cells. Introduction: Aluminum is everywhere in nature and is a recognized neurotoxicant closely associated with various neurodegenerative diseases. Neuroinflammation occurs in the early stage of neurodegenerative diseases, but the underlying mechanism by which aluminum induces neuroinflammation remains unclear., Material and Methods: A 3-month subchronic aluminum exposure mouse model was established by drinking water containing aluminum chloride (AlCl 3 ). Microglia BV2 cells and hippocampal neuron HT22 cells were treated with AlCl 3 in vitro. BBG and YC-1 were used as intervention agents., Results: Aluminum could activate microglia and increase the level of extracellular ATP, stimulate P2X7 receptor, HIF-1α, activate NLRP3 inflammasome and CASP-1, release more cytokine IL-1β, and induce an inflammatory response in nerve cells. There was a mutual regulatory relationship between P2X7 and HIF-1α at mRNA and protein levels. The co-culture system of BV2-HT22 cells observed that conditioned medium from microglia treated with aluminum could aggravate neuronal morphological damage, inflammatory response and death. While BBG and YC-1 intervention could rescue these injuries to some extent., Conclusion: The P2X7-NLRP3 pathway was involved in aluminum-induced neuroinflammation and injury. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an autoimmune disease afflicting an increasing number of patients and increasing demands towards the development of efficacious and safe drugs. Recently, with increasing interest in alternative medicines, natural resources have become a hotspot for drug discovery against UC. In addition to being consumed as a food and spice, ginger is also widely used as a well-recognized gastrointestinal herbal medicine. With a long history in the treatment of digestive disorders, the potential of ginger in alleviating UC has been documented in several experimental models and clinical trials. However, as a major active constituent of ginger, ginger polysaccharides (GP) and its effect on UC has yet to be reported. In this study, GP was firstly separated and characterized. In a dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis mouse model, GP alleviated UC symptoms by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines levels to regulate intestinal inflammation, repairing the intestinal barrier as indicated by occludin-1 and ZO-1, as well as regulating gut microbiota. The effect of long-term water and integrated fertilization on prokaryotic microorganisms and their regulation for crop nutrient uptake remains unknown. Therefore, the impact of soil water and integrated fertilization after eight years on prokaryotic microbial communities in different compartments of root zone and their association with wheat nitrogen (N) absorption and yield were investigated. The results showed that compared with fertilization treatments (F), water regimes (W) more drastically modulated the prokaryotic microbial community structure and diversity in bulk soil, rhizosphere and endosphere. The increase of irrigation improved the prokaryotic diversity in the rhizosphere and endosphere while decreased the diversity in the bulk soil. Application of organic fertilizers significantly improved soil organic matter (SOM) and nutrient contents, increased rhizosphere and endophytic prokaryotic microbial diversity, and elevated the relative abundance of aerobic ammonia oxidation and nitrification-related functional microorganisms in rhizosphere and endosphere. Increasing irrigation elevated the relative abundance of functional microorganisms related to aerobic ammonia oxidation and nitrification in the rhizosphere and endosphere. Soil water content (SWC) and NH 4 + -N were key predictors of prokaryotic microbial community composition under W and F treatments, respectively. Appropriate application of irrigation and organic fertilizers increased the relative abundance of some beneficial bacteria such as Flavobacterium. Water and fertilization treatments regulated the prokaryotic microbial communities of bulk soil, rhizosphere and endosphere by altering SWC and SOM, and provided evidence for the modulation of prokaryotic microorganisms to promote nitrogen uptake and wheat yield under long-term irrigation and fertilization. Conclusively, the addition of organic manure (50 %) with inorganic fertilizers (50 %) and reduced amount of irrigation (pre-sowing and jointing-period irrigation) decreased the application amount of chemical fertilizers and water, while increased SOM and nutrient content, improved prokaryotic diversity, and changed prokaryotic microbial community structure in the wheat root zone, resulting in enhanced nutrient uptake and wheat yield.3 - -N were key predictors of prokaryotic microbial community composition under W and F treatments, respectively. Background: As air pollution has been paid more attention to by public in recent years, effects and mechanism in particulate matter-triggered health problems become a focus of research. Lysosomes and mitochondria play an important role in regulation of inflammation. Interleukin-33 (IL-33) has been proved to promote inflammation in our previous studies. In this research, macrophage cell line RAW264.7 was used to explore the potential mechanism of upregulation of IL-33 induced by 1,4-naphthoquinone black carbon (1,4-NQ-BC), and to explore changes of lysosomes and mitochondria during the process., Results: 50 μg/mL 1,4-NQ-BC exposure for 24 h dramatically increased expression of IL-33 in RAW264.7 cells. Lysosomal membrane permeability was damaged by 1,4-NQ-BC treatment, and higher mitochondrial membrane potential and ROS level were induced by 1,4-NQ-BC. The results of proteomics suggested that expression of ferritin light chain was increased after cells were challenged with 1,4-NQ-BC, and it was verified by Western blot. Meanwhile, expressions of p62 and LC3B-II were increased by 50 μg/mL 1,4-NQ-BC in RAW264.7 cells. Ultimately, expression of IL-33 could return to same level as control in cells treated with 50 μg/mL 1,4-NQ-BC and 50 μM deferoxamine combined., Conclusions: 1,4-NQ-BC induces IL-33 upregulation in RAW264.7 cells, and it is responsible for higher lysosomal membrane permeability and ROS level, lower mitochondrial membrane potential, and inhibition of autophagy. In this study, the influence of exogenous pyocyanin (PYO) on the microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) of 304 stainless steel by Pseudomonas aeruginosa was investigated. Under sterile condition, the additional PYO in the culture medium had no effect on the corrosion of 304 stainless steel. In contrast, P. aeruginosa biofilm inoculated in the media with additional PYO resulted in more severe pitting corrosion. EIS and cyclic potentiodynamic polarization results indicated that exogenous PYO promoted the electron transfer efficiency between the P. aeruginosa biofilm and the stainless steel surface. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) results further demonstrated that the P. aeruginosa led the breakdown of passive film predominantly by accelerating the bioreductive dissolution of iron oxides., (Copyright © 2022.
