The Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2) is a widely used measure of a core facet of the positive body image construct. However, extant research concerning measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across a large number of nations remains limited. Here, we utilised the Body Image in Nature (BINS) dataset - with data collected between 2020 and 2022 - to assess measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groups. Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis indicated that full scalar invariance was upheld across all nations, languages, gender identities, and age groups, suggesting that the unidimensional BAS-2 model has widespread applicability. There were large differences across nations and languages in latent body appreciation, while differences across gender identities and age groups were negligible-to-small. Additionally, greater body appreciation was significantly associated with higher life satisfaction, being single (versus being married or in a committed relationship), and greater rurality (versus urbanicity). Across a subset of nations where nation-level data were available, greater body appreciation was also significantly associated with greater cultural distance from the United States and greater relative income inequality. Taking a short midday nap has been associated with higher alertness and better cognitive task performance. Yet, the mechanisms associated with nap-dependent performance enhancement are unclear. The current study was conducted to explore the impact of physiological arousal during cognitive task and sleep architecture during a pre-task nap on post-nap behavioral outcomes. A within-subjects design (N = 18) was employed, in which participants either took a nap or remained awake for 40 min during the post-lunch period. The psychomotor vigilance test (PVT) and n-back task were administered to assess sustained attention and working memory, respectively, with each task including one block of easy trials and one block of difficult trials. Results showed that a short midday nap improved sustained attention but not working memory. In addition, a midday nap induced lower physiological arousal during the performance on both cognitive tasks, with relatively higher delta and lower beta activity. The relative power of theta and alpha were positively correlated with performance on the easy PVT, whereas the alpha power was negatively correlated with performance on the difficult PVT, and the theta power was negatively correlated with reaction speed in the n-back task regardless of the task difficulty. Meanwhile, the shorter total sleep time and longer time of wake after sleep onset were associated with the faster overall reaction speed in PVT easy trials. Objective: To present the experience on prenatal features of 17q12 microdeletion and microduplication syndromes., Materials and Methods: Prenatal chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) were conducted between January 2015 and December 2018 at a single Chinese tertiary medical centre. Information of cases identified with 17q12 microdeletion or microduplication syndromes were retrospectively collected. Foetal ultrasonographic findings were reviewed, and other information about the gestation week at diagnosis, inheritance and pregnancy outcomes were also included., Results: Ten pregnancies with 17q12 microdeletion and 4 with 17q12 microduplication were identified. The copy number variation (CNV) sizes were 1.39-1.94 Mb in the deleted cases and 1.42-1.48 Mb in the duplicated cases, respectively. All the duplicated and deleted regions included HNF1B and LHX1 genes. Most individuals with 17q12 deletion presented kidney anomalies (9/10), with renal hyperechogenicity being the most common finding (7/10). Fetuses with 17q12 duplication presented a wide phenotypic spectrum, including "double bubble" sign, structural anomalies of the heart and growth anomalies., Conclusions: Our experience further demonstrated the high correlation between 17q12 microdeletion and renal anomalies especially hyperechogenic kidneys. Structural anomalies of the heart were newly identified phenotypes of 17q12 duplication during prenatal period. Two new highly oxygenated ergostane-type sterols (1, 2) together with one known related compound sinugrandisterol A (3) were isolated from the soft coral Sinularia sp. collected from the water area near the Xisha Islands, South China Sea. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of detailed spectroscopic analysis, chemical transformations, and by comparison with those reported in literature. In bioassays, compounds 1 and 2 showed in vitro antiproliferative activity against a panel of cancer cell lines, including MDA-MB-436, A549, Hep3B, HT-29 and H157. Morphological observation and Hoechst 33,258 staining assays showed that compound 1-treated H157 cells displayed apoptosis characteristics. Four new cembranoids (1-4) were isolated from the extracts of a soft coral collected from the sea area near Xisha Island, South China Sea. The structures of these compounds were determined mainly by spectroscopic analyses, with the absolute configuration of 1 being established by X-ray diffraction analysis. In bioassay, compounds 1 and 3 displayed moderate inhibitory activity against Aβ 42 aggregation (20.6% and 37.2% inhibition at 10 μM). The binding mode of 1 with Aβ 42 monomer was predicted by molecular docking. In addition, compounds 1 and 3 did not show cytotoxicity against human tumor cell lines (SH-SY5Y, MDA-MB-426, A549, Hep3B, and HT-29) at 100 μM. Taken together, these cembranoids as new anti-Aβ aggregation agents derived from Sinularia sp. provided a new chemical scaffold for anti-Alzhemer's disease drug discovery., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier B.V. Three new polyoxygenated diterpenes (1, 3 and 4) of eunicellin-type, namely, 8-n-butyryl-litophynol A, 6-keto-litophynol B and 6-epi-litophynol B, respectively, together with two related known ones (2 and 5), were isolated from the soft coral Cladiella krempfi collected off the Weizhou island, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis and chemical correlation. Purpose: To monitor early response for locally advanced cervical cancers undergoing concurrent chemo-radiotherapy (CCRT) by ultrasonic histogram., Methods: B-mode ultrasound examinations were performed at 4 time points in thirty-four patients during CCRT. Six ultrasonic histogram parameters were used to assess the echogenicity, homogeneity and heterogeneity of tumors., Results: I peak increased rapidly since the first week after therapy initiation, whereas W low , W high and A high changed significantly at the second week. The average ultrasonic histogram progressively moved toward the right and converted into more symmetrical shape., Conclusion: Ultrasonic histogram could be served as a potential marker to monitor early response during CCRT., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Inc. ISO Standard 5725 "Accuracy (trueness and precision) of measurement methods and results" recommends Cochran's C test to numerically verify if three or more normally distributed data sets show "homogeneity of variances" or "homoscedasticity". The C test is a one-sided outlier test that will identify deviant standard deviations. It can be run on summary data using a pocket calculator. However, the C test has limitations. It only applies to data sets of equal size. It uses critical values that are only available for the upper tail of the variance distribution, at selected numbers of data sets, selected numbers of replicates per set and only at two significance levels. Cochran's C test will not identify an outlying low variance, but may mistake a high variance for an outlier instead. We transform the C test into a more general "G test". Expressions are derived to calculate upper limit as well as lower limit critical values for data sets of equal and unequal size at any significance level. The expressions are validated against literature values and through simulations in Excel. Representative critical values are tabulated for those who prefer to work from tables. The power of the G test is verified for data sets of equal and unequal size. The G test appears superior to the C test in detecting effects from low variances.
