This study addresses the complex dynamics of heat transfer in magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) systems involving Jeffrey, Williamson, Maxwell, and Newtonian fluids, focusing on how chemical reactions, activation energy, porosity, and mixed convection impact fluid behavior. The problem is critical due to the significant influence these factors have on industrial processes and applications involving non-Newtonian fluids. The developed a mathematical model represented by partial differential equations (PDEs), which were solved using similarity transformations and the fourth order Runge-Kutta (R-K) method combined with shooting technique, with MATLAB software facilitating the solution process. The results reveal that variations in magnetic field strength, porosity, and buoyancy force significantly affect fluid velocities, while radiation, Brownian motion, and thermophoresis alter temperature profiles. Furthermore, chemical reaction rates, Schmidt number, relaxation constant, and activation energy influence fluid concentrations. Key findings include that increasing porosity and magnetic field strength generally decreases fluid velocity, while higher radiation and Prandtl numbers reduce temperature. Chemical reactions and activation energy decrease fluid concentrations, with non-Newtonian fluids showing more pronounced effects compared to Newtonian fluids. The novelty of this work lies in its comprehensive analysis of multiple interacting parameters and their combined effects on heat transfer in MHD systems, providing insights that extend beyond previous studies in the literature. This research offers valuable implications for optimizing fluid dynamics in various industrial applications, including food processing, ink formulation, and friction reduction.

A new library of 1,2,3-triazole aryl-attached (4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl) thiazoles (11a–j) has been designed and synthesized and its structures were characterized by 1H NMR 13C NMR and mass spectral data. Further, these derivatives (11a-j) were evaluated for their anticancer activity against four human cancer cell lines, including PC3 (prostate cancer), A549 (lung cancer), MCF-7 (breast cancer) and A2780 (ovarian cancer) by employing the MTT method, and the obtained results were compared with etoposide. Among all the examined compounds, 11a, 11b, 11c, 11i and 11j displayed the most promising activity. Particularly, two compounds 11a and 11b possessed good activity.

Recently, mRNA has gained a lot of attention in the field of vaccines, gene therapy, and protein replacement therapies. Herein, we are demonstrating a comprehensive approach to designing, cloning, and characterizing an antigenic cassette for the development of mRNA vaccine for COVID-19. The gene encoding the antigenic spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) was designed using the databases, characterized by in-silico tools, and assembled using overlapping oligonucleotide-based assembly by PCR. Next, the gene was cloned, mRNA was synthesized, and characterized using orthogonal approaches (Capillary electrophoresis, Sanger DNA sequencing, Next-generation sequencing, HPLC, qPCR, etc.). Furthermore, the antigen expression was monitored in-vitro using an animal cell model by western blot, flow cytometer, and surface plasmon resonance. The demonstrated approach has also been followed for developing the mRNA vaccines for various other indications such as Malaria, Herpes, Dengue, HPV, etc.

Background: In July 2021, the Alappuzha district in Kerala, India, reported an unexpected number of acute gastroenteritis (772) cases (Outbreak A). On October 10, 2021, a university in Wayanad, Kerala, reported 25 acute gastroenteritis cases (Outbreak B). We described both the outbreaks and determined the agent, source and risk factors. Methods: We defined a suspected case as the occurrence of vomiting or at least three episodes of loose stools within 24 h and a confirmed case as those with stool samples/rectal swabs positive for norovirus. We did a matched case-control study in Outbreak A and a retrospective cohort study in Outbreak B. We calculated the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) in outbreak A, relative risk (aRR) in outbreak B and population attributable fraction (PAF). We tested stool and water samples for bacteria and viruses. Results: We identified Group II norovirus in stool samples in both outbreaks and 4/5 water samples in Outbreak A. Suspected norovirus infection was associated with drinking inadequately boiled water from the municipal water supply in outbreak A [aOR: 4.5; 95 % C.I: 1.2–15.8; PAF: 0.23] and well water in hostels in outbreak B [aRR: 2.2; 95 % C.I: 1.2–3.9; PAF: 0.15]. In Outbreak A, groundwater from tube wells was mixed in the municipal water supply overhead tanks without chlorination. Conclusion: The gastroenteritis outbreaks were caused by Group II norovirus due to the consumption of inadequately boiled contaminated groundwater (outbreak A) and well water (outbreak B). We recommended superchlorination of overhead tanks and wells and boiled water for drinking.

Indian bay leaf is a crucial spice in Indian cuisine. However, its quality and authenticity are often compromised. To address this, we introduce The Digital Indian Bay leaf dataset, a comprehensive collection of high-resolution 5696 images capturing diverse bay leaf samples under controlled conditions. The dataset encompasses variations in leaf conditions such as fresh leaf, dried leaf and diseased prone leaf. The dataset is meticulously curated to support research in condition analysis and machine learning applications for leaf quality assessment. To ensure data diversity, each category includes a wide range of images captured under controlled conditions with varying lighting, background, and leaf orientation. By providing a standardized and accessible resource, this dataset aims to accelerate research in this domain and contribute to the improvement of the Indian spice industry.

Exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals such as bisphenol A (BPA) has been linked to the sharp drop in male fertility observed worldwide. This study evaluates the protective benefits of Cucumeropsis mannii seed oil (CMSO) against BPA-induced transgenerational sperm indices and reproductive hormone disruptions in rats. Twenty-four F0-male rats (aged 4–5 weeks) were randomly assigned to six groups (n = 4 each) after CMSO characterization for flavonoids. Group A received 1 ml of olive oil. Group B received 100 mg/kg body weight (BW) of BPA whereas Group C had a BW of 7.5 ml/kg CMSO. Groups D, E, and F were administered 100 mg/kg_BW of BPA in addition to 7.5, 5.0, and 2.5 ml/kg_BW of CMSO, respectively. After two weeks of treatment, four mature female rats were introduced to each group and allowed to stay together with male rats for seven days to confirm mating. Thereafter, the pregnant female rats were separated from the male according to their groups and allowed to give birth after 21 days of gestation period. At six weeks, the F1-male rats were isolated from each group and sacrificed for biochemical analysis. Summary: Background: The increasing prevalence of diet-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in South Asia is concerning, with type 2 diabetes projected to rise to 68%, compared to the global increase of 44%. Encouraging healthy diets requires stronger policies for healthier food environments. Methods: This study reviewed and assessed food environment policies in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka from 2020 to 2022 using the Healthy Food Environment Policy Index (Food-EPI) and compared them with global best practices. Seven policy domains and six infrastructure support domains were considered, employing 47 good practice indicators to prevent NCDs. Stakeholders from government and non-governmental sectors in South Asia (n = 148) were invited to assess policy and infrastructure support implementation using the Delphi method. Findings: Implementation of food environment policies and infrastructure support in these countries was predominantly weak. Labelling, monitoring, and leadership policies received a moderate rating, with a focus on food safety, hygiene, and quality rather than obesity prevention. Key policy gaps prioritized for attention included front-of-pack labelling, healthy food subsidies, unhealthy food taxation, restrictions on unhealthy food promotion, and improvements in school nutrition standards to combat NCDs. Interpretation: Urgent action is required to expand food policies beyond hygiene and food security measures. Comprehensive strategies targeting NCD prevention are crucial to combat the escalating burden of NCDs in the region. Summary: Background: Research in healthy young adults shows that characteristic patterns of brain activity define individual “brain-fingerprints” that are unique to each person. However, variability in these brain-fingerprints increases in individuals with neurological conditions, challenging the clinical relevance and potential impact of the approach. Our study shows that brain-fingerprints derived from neurophysiological brain activity are associated with pathophysiological and clinical traits of individual patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Methods: We created brain-fingerprints from task-free brain activity recorded through magnetoencephalography in 79 PD patients and compared them with those from two independent samples of age-matched healthy controls (N = 424 total). We decomposed brain activity into arrhythmic and rhythmic components, defining distinct brain-fingerprints for each type from recording durations of up to 4 min and as short as 30 s. Findings: The arrhythmic spectral components of cortical activity in patients with Parkinson’s disease are more variable over short periods, challenging the definition of a reliable brain-fingerprint. However, by isolating the rhythmic components of cortical activity, we derived brain-fingerprints that distinguished between patients and healthy controls with about 90% accuracy. The most prominent cortical features of the resulting Parkinson’s brain-fingerprint are mapped to polyrhythmic activity in unimodal sensorimotor regions. Leveraging these features, we also demonstrate that Parkinson’s symptom laterality can be decoded directly from cortical neurophysiological activity. Furthermore, our study reveals that the cortical topography of the Parkinson’s brain-fingerprint aligns with that of neurotransmitter systems affected by the disease’s pathophysiology. Interpretation: The increased moment-to-moment variability of arrhythmic brain-fingerprints challenges patient differentiation and explains previously published results. We outline patient-specific rhythmic brain signaling features that provide insights into both the neurophysiological signature and symptom laterality of Parkinson’s disease. Thus, the proposed definition of a rhythmic brain-fingerprint of Parkinson’s disease may contribute to novel, refined approaches to patient stratification. Symmetrically, we discuss how rhythmic brain-fingerprints may contribute to the improved identification and testing of therapeutic neurostimulation targets. In recent times, there has been a surge of interest in the unique characteristics and possible applications of nanoparticles in various fields, including environmental clean-up. The contamination of water sources with pharmaceutical and organic substances has emerged as a significant environmental concern. Semiconductor nanoparticles, particularly Bi2S3 nanoparticles, have garnered considerable attention due to their efficacy and environmentally friendly nature in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). These nanoparticles have shown remarkable photocatalytic abilities in the destruction of pollutants when exposed to UV–visible light. This study covers the production, characterization, and degradation of Bi2S3 nanoparticles in relation to organic and pharmaceutical contaminants. By utilizing co-precipitate methods, it becomes possible to precisely manipulate the size, shape, and composition of the nanoparticles, which are crucial factors in determining their catalytic effectiveness. The created nanoparticles are then examined using various analytical techniques, such as Powder X-ray Diffraction (P-XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), UV-visible spectroscopy, Photoluminescence study (PL), colour chromaticity coordinates (CIE), and Dynamic light scattering study (DLS). The catalytic capability of the synthesised compounds was compared to the degradation of Picric acid and paracetamol as model pollutants. The observed photocatalytic activity of these nanoparticles indicates their potential in water purification and environmental clean-up. The findings suggest that incorporating these nanoparticles into practical systems for pollutant degradation is feasible and can be applied in diverse scenarios. The results shed light on the efficient utilization of Bi2S3 nanoparticles as photocatalysts for the oxidation of drugs and organic contaminants. By utilizing Bi2S3 nanoparticles, the elimination of pharmaceutical and organic pollutants from water sources becomes achievable, thereby contributing to the preservation and safeguarding of the environment and public health.

Currently, India has become one of the largest economies of the world in which tourism and hospitality have significantly contributed; however, the growth rate of tourism industry has been greatly affected during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, we have used the modeling approach to analyze and understand the growth pattern of Indian tourism industry. To achieve this, we consider the data of international tourist arrivals before and after the lockdown. The Dickey-Fuller test, AIC and BIC methods are used to obtain the best fitted model and further, the accuracy of obtained model is also analyzed. Data and forecasting indicate that the weather and public holidays significantly affect the tourism industry.

An abundance of factors such as a high recurrence rate, antibiotic resistance, and the advent of persistent strains contribute to the continual threat that vulvovaginal candidiasis poses to women's health. There are a multitude of delivery methods and their commercially available formulations for the treatment of this disease. However, in view of the anatomy and physiology of the vagina, it is challenging to increase therapeutic efficacy when employing traditional formulations designed for vaginal medication administration since the production and renewal of vaginal fluids contribute to the constant depletion of the dosage form. Due to their appealing qualities, such as extending the residence period of the medication at the delivery site and allowing for precise control over drug release rates, hydrogels have been extensively used to enable direct drug administration into the vaginal mucosa for local treatment. In this regard, chitosan is a well-researched polymer that has gained particular attention. Chitosan hydrogels, apart from their appreciable mucoadhesive property and antimicrobial activity, offer an umpteen range of characteristics, making them an exemplary component for the treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis. Their various derivatives are now being researched for applications in treatment; however, there lie challenges in scalability and commercial usage of such formulations for a wide population group.

Background: A refined network and integrated host immune response to bacteria are formed by anti-inflammatory cytokines and the cells that they are associated to IL-35 has been recognized as having strong suppressive activity in chronic inflammatory diseases, together with IL-10 and TGF-β. It is believed that inflammatory diseases like periodontitis trigger the inducible Treg population to express IL-35, expanding regulatory responses by increasing infection. Aim: The objective is to estimate and compare the salivary IL-35 levels in Periodontally healthy subjects, smokers and non-smokers with Periodontitis in order to educate on the consequences of periodontal health among the diseased patients. Materials and Methods: Totally 42 subjects were included and they were categorized into Group 1 (n = 14) as Periodontally healthy subjects, Group 2 (n = 14) as systemically healthy non-Smokers with periodontitis and Group 3 (n = 14) as systemically healthy smokers with periodontitis. Each subject was assessed for clinical parameters such as Plaque index, Gingival index, Probing depth, clinical attachment. A polypropylene tube was used to collect unstimulated saliva and centrifuged it at 800 × g for 10 min. Supernatants were collected and stored at −80◦C. A commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit was used to analyse levels of human salivary IL-35. Results: The average age of the subjects in Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3 were 50.53, 52.93 and 52.07 years respectively. All three groups showed a statistically significant difference in clinical parameters including Plaque index, Gingival index, Probing depth and clinical attachment. The salivary IL-35 level was found to be elevated in non-smokers who have periodontitis compared to smokers with periodontitis and healthy individuals. Precise measurement of humidity is of high significance in diverse fields like instrumentation, automated systems, agriculture and climatology. Herein as a first ever attempt, we report ceria-graphene oxide (CeO2-GO) composites as resistive type humidity sensor, that shows attractive response to moisture. High surface area ceria is synthesised via ammonia mediated precipitation from salt precursor, and CeO2-GO composites are achieved via hydrothermal route. The composites are well characterized using various analytical tools. Experiments using different mass ratios of GO in the composite show that there is an optimum amount of GO to realise maximum efficiency in the test parameters. It is further noted that the performance of the sensor is controlled by the active adsorption sites, which is proportional to surface area of the composite. An optimized CeO2-GO matrix yielded a response and recovery time of 19 s and 10 s respectively. The narrow hysteresis in moisture adsorption-desorption study and excellent stability for about 60 days are also observed for the system, warranting the successful utility of the system for practical applications.

The advent of the fifth-generation (5 G) network integrates a spectrum of powerful technologies. Among these, Device-to-Device (D2D) communication stands as a focal point in research due to its expansive array of applications. Within the realm of 5 G, D2D communication offers support for high data rates and ultra-reliable, low-latency communications. While machine learning-based approaches have been devised to facilitate D2D communication in 5 G, ensuring robust connectivity and optimal network throughput remains a persisting challenge. Therefore, the bagging ensemble mean-shift Gaussian kernelized clustering-based D2D Connectivity (BEMSGKC-DC) algorithm is designed to enhance device-to-device communication in 5 G Cellular Networks with better packet delivery ratio and throughput. The proposed BEMSGKC-DC algorithm is proposed to enable massive device connectivity while improving the overall network performance. This can be achieved by employing bootstrap aggregating clustering where it clusters the devices via forming a set of base clusters i.e., Mean-Shift Gaussian kernelized clustering algorithm. To further enhance the performance of the algorithm, this paper also computes the resources of the devices in the clustering process using the Gaussian kernel function. All the weak cluster outcomes are merged to acquire the final clustering output with lower error. Through the resultant clustering of the device, the connectivity between D2D is ensured and thereby improves the data communication in the 5 G network. The result demonstrates that the BEMSGKC-DC algorithm optimizes the connectivity with lower energy, latency, and higher data delivery ratio and packet loss rate than the conventional algorithms.

In this study, we investigated the properties of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), which is a naturally occurring water-soluble vitamin. Our goal is to evaluate its pro-oxidative and/or antioxidant capabilities. To do this, we initially used a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) to visualize the differentiation pattern in U-937 cells under the treatment of variable concentrations of ascorbic acid. Prior to induction, U-937 cells showed a spherical morphology. After treatment, significant morphological changes were observed in the form of prominent pseudopodia and amoeboid structures. Interestingly, pseudopodia incidences increased with an increase in ascorbic acid concentrations. In addition, our analysis of protein modification using anti-malondialdehyde antibodies showed changes in more than one protein. The findings reveal the link between the differentiation of U-937 cells into macrophages and the protein modifications triggered by the production of reactive oxygen species when U-937 cells are exposed to ascorbic acid. Furthermore, the transformation of ascorbic acid from a pro-oxidative to an antioxidant property is also demonstrated.

The prime focus of regenerative periodontal therapy is to reconstruct or regenerate the lost periodontium, including both hard and soft tissues. Over the years, periodontics has witnessed different regenerative modalities, such as bone grafts, guided tissue membranes, growth factors, stem cell technology, 3D printing, etc. 3D printing is a newly emerging manufacturing technology that finds applications in diverse fields, including aerospace, defense, art and design, medical and dental field. Originally developed for non-biological applications, 3D printing has undergone modifications to print biocompatible materials and living cells to minimize any potential compromise on cell viability. Thus, the utilisation of 3D printing in the regeneration of lost periodontal tissues represents a novel approach that facilitates optimal cell interactions and promotes the successful regeneration of biological tissues.

Recombinant adeno-associated viruses (rAAVs) have emerged as one of the most promising gene therapy vectors that have been successfully used in pre-clinical models of heart disease. However, this has not translated well to humans due to species differences in rAAV transduction efficiency. As a result, the search for human cardiotropic capsids is a major contemporary challenge. We used a capsid-shuffled rAAV library to perform directed evolution in human iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs). Five candidates emerged, with four presenting high sequence identity to AAV6, while a fifth divergent variant was related to AAV3b. Functional analysis of the variants was performed in vitro using hiPSC-CMs, cardiac organoids, human cardiac slices, non-human primate and porcine cardiac slices, as well as mouse heart and liver in vivo. We showed that cell entry was not the best predictor of transgene expression efficiency. The novel variant rAAV.KK04 was the best-performing vector in human-based screening platforms, exceeding the benchmark rAAV6. None of the novel capsids demonstrate a significant transduction of liver in vivo. The range of experimental models used revealed the value of testing for tropism differences under the conditions of human specificity, bona fide, myocardium and cell type of interest.

Objective: To examine the effects of hydroalcoholic extract and fractions of Hordeum vulgare Linn. (H. vulgare, Da Mai) on streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic nephropathy in Sprague–Dawley rat models. Methods: The study involved preliminary phytochemical screening of extract and fractions, estimation of secondary metabolites, chromatographic studies using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), antioxidant potential using 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), nitric oxide radical scavenging and reducing power methods along with the determination of potential against diabetic nephropathy in STZ-induced rat models. Results: The phytochemical evaluation of the hydroalcoholic extract of H. vulgare and fractions revealed the presence of various phytoconstituents such as alkaloids, saponins, tannins, flavonoids, and glycosides. The chromatographic analysis indicated the peak complementing marker compound epicatechin and significant antioxidant activity in the extract and aqueous fraction. STZ-induced rats showed abnormal levels of serum albumin, creatinine, total cholesterol, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and triglycerides, and urine albumin and creatinine, which returned to normal after 8 weeks of treatment with hydroalcoholic extract (400 mg/kg) and aqueous fraction (50 mg/kg) of H. vulgare. Conclusion: Hydroalcoholic extract (400 mg/kg) and aqueous fraction (50 mg/kg) of H. vulgare have significant antioxidant potential and positive effects on diabetic nephropathy. The fractionation and optimization increase the concentration of polyphenols in aqueous extract, causing a decrease in the dose required for effects against diabetic nephropathy.

The primary objective of this endeavor is to mitigate their discomfort. The project demonstrates the creation of an affordable machine control system utilizing IoT technology. This system incorporates functionalities such as speech control and hand gestures, making it beneficial for people with impairments. The Internet of Things (IoT) pertains to the interconnectedness of electronic devices, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity among machines, vehicles, structures, and other entities. This connectivity enables the gathering and sharing of data.The application of IoT technology in this undertaking facilitates wireless control of devices via internet connectivity. The project employs a Node MCU development board as the central computing module. Furthermore, the project envisions an interface that empowers users through voice commands and hand gestures, accessible through a dedicated app. The MIT Software Inventor employs an online speech-to-text infrastructure to enable speech control. The system listens for the user's vocal commands and recognizes hand angular positions. Upon detecting specific predefined phrases, corresponding actions are triggered to activate or deactivate the machines. The innovative aspect of this concept lies in its ability to empower differently-abled individuals to effortlessly control machines through voice commands and hand gestures. The proposed system extends its applications to the industrial sector, streamlining machinery management and enhancing personnel control. This app-based interface can be accessed from any global location, further enhancing its accessibility and usability.

Recently, TiO2(B) has been extensively used in catalytic and energy fields owing to its exceptional crystal structure. But being a metastable state, TiO2(B) is transformed easily into other stable crystalline forms like anatase or rutile phase, and the low crystallinity limits the application of the material in catalysis. A combination of TiO2(B) with anatase, which is benefitted by a homojunction, is proven to be blessed with high activity. Herein, hydrogen production via photocatalytic water-splitting is presented using Cu modified biphasic titania nanotubes achieved by a facile hydrothermal procedure. The systems are well characterized using SEM, TEM, XRD analysis, N2 adsorption study, FTIR, DR-UV, Raman, Photoluminescence, and X-ray photoelectron spectral analysis. The homo-junction developed in titania due to anatase –TiO2 (B), as well as the heterojunction created by the co-catalyst, tune the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanotubes positively, as evident from the enhanced hydrogen production over the system.

Modified cement mortar plays a major role in enhancing the properties of conventional cement mortar such as strength, durability, better adhesion, reduce porosity and shrinkage and improve workability. Certain modifiers, like industrial by-products, can be incorporated into mortars to promote sustainability and reduce environmental impact. The main aim of this study is to develop Super Absorbent Polymer Modified cement mortars with Nano Silica/GGBS. In this study, conventional cement mortar blended with Nano Silica and Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) as one combination then GGBS and SAP blended mortar as another combination was examined to mitigate the negative impact of SAP. Ternary Blended cement mortars prepared with various SAP dosages of 0.25% of cement and 0.5% of cement. Nano-Silica is an additive used in the range of 1%, 1.5%, and 2% of the weight of cement. A combination containing GGBS and SAP, GGBS is a replacement for cement in the range of 15%, 30%, and 45% to the weight of cement. The combined effect of altering SAP and Nano-silica/GGBS composition on the mechanical, durability, and microstructural properties were studied using experimental investigation. Peak improvement in the compressive strength of the control mix of 6.52% is noted in the mix combination that contains 0.25% SAP and 15% GGBS replacement. The durability test revealed that the weight loss minimized by 19.58% and strength loss minimized by 36.17% due to acid attack is noted in the combination of GGBS and SAP. Weight loss minimized by 36.17% and strength loss minimized by 22.71% due to sulphate attack is noted in a mix containing GGBS. From experimental investigation, 30% & 45% GGBS replacement in place of cement had no significant improvement in mechanical, durability, and microstructural properties compared to 15% GGBS replacement, which optimum obtained in this study to alleviate the negative consequence of SAP when used as an internal curing agent.

Background: Modern slavery is a largely hidden crime disproportionately affecting women and girls, with 71% of the world's enslaved people being female and approximately one third estimated to be pregnant. Healthcare professionals experience difficulties in caring for mothers affected by modern slavery, including asking appropriate questions and initiating discussions, making safe referrals, being uncertain about entitlements, and facing obstacles in accessing language support and specialist mental health services. Despite the expectation of cohesive and consistent services, which avoid the recounting of experiences that may re-traumatise, interdisciplinary collaborations between maternity services and non-statutory agencies remain unclear. Objective: To map the available evidence and resources on maternity care provision and non-statutory support to pregnant women and mothers affected by modern slavery. Design: A scoping review was conducted following the JBI methodology for scoping reviews. Methods: Five databases (Applied Social Sciences Index & Abstracts, Cumulated Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Dissertations & Thesis A&I, Embase, Scopus) were searched. Inclusion criteria: English language; published between 2012 and May 2022; related to both maternity care provision and modern slavery; cross-sectional perspectives, including survivor mothers, healthcare professionals, midwives, and non-statutory service staff; any methodology. Exclusion criteria: general healthcare or not maternity related; opinion pieces, letters, book reviews, commentaries. Grey literature was searched using relevant websites reporting theses, blogs, policies, guidelines, and resources. Results: Twelve articles reporting 11 studies and 29 grey literature reports were retained for the scoping review. Three key themes were identified from research studies: a) women's perspectives on barriers to access and engagement with maternity services; b) challenges and needs identified by healthcare professionals; and c) the impact of human trafficking on maternal and neonatal outcomes. The grey literature resources comprised mainly blogs, information sheets, leaflets or webpages, and research or consultation reports. Maternity was being experienced by survivor mothers with the following: unfamiliarity with and lack of access to systems and information across all sectors, barriers to care and entitlements, contemporary threats of violence from partners/traffickers, restricted ability to move freely, issues related to traumatisation, dispersal policies, and dealing with multiple new systems. Conclusions: Although several sources indicate principles that should be adopted, the detail of how optimal care and support during maternity should be provided by healthcare professionals and non-statutory service staff is lacking. Further research is required, from which recommendations for good maternity practice and the effective intersection between statutory and non-statutory services can be derived and subsequently mobilised across different systems and settings.

Liposomes are amphiphilic structures widely explored for the encapsulation of various active ingredients in the area of pharmaceutics, cosmetics and numerous others. Wherein, the conventional liposomal structure is found to possess certain drawbacks with regard to their stability and release kinetics of active ingredients. Chitosan is a natural polysaccharide that exhibits structural stability, excellent biocompatibility, biodegradability, flexibility, non-immunogenicity and targetability. Coating of chitosan to liposomes have found to modulate the bio functionality of liposome vesicles in terms of stability and release kinetics and therefore chitosan coated liposomes (chitosomes) remain as efficient carrier to transport potential bioactives to the targeted sites effectively. This review highlights the liposomal mediated encapsulation methods and induces insights to employ modulation of liposomal stability by chitosan coating to liposomes for the facile transport of active ingredients for multiple applications.

Background: Prediabetes is an intermediate state of hyperglycemia, which acts as a precursor to Diabetes mellitus if left untreated. Nisha (Curcuma longa) and Amalaki (Emblica officinalis) combination has been advocated as drugs of choice to treat the early manifestations of Diabetes mellitus. Objective: This prospective, randomized, single-blind, placebo-controlled, comparative study was planned to assess the efficacy and safety of Nisha-Amalaki capsules in preventing progression to Diabetes mellitus in prediabetic patients when administered for 6 months. Methods: The study was conducted on prediabetic participants randomized to receive either Nisha-Amalaki (500 mg) or placebo one capsule twice a day for six months. The effect of study medications on IDRS (Indian Diabetes Risk Score), BMI (Body Mass Index), blood sugar, serum insulin, HOMA-IR (Homeostasis Model Assessment-Estimated Insulin Resistance), HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin), oxidative markers, Ayurvedic symptoms and Quality of Life (QoL) scores was assessed at regular intervals. Background: The polyherbal formulation (PHF) liberin, is known to exert anti-hyperglycemic effects in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Hence, it is important to study the safety profile of PHF in the current study through acute and chronic toxicity evaluation. Objectives: This research aims to assess the acute and sub-chronic toxicity of PHF in rats. Materials and methods: PHF was administered once orally (1000 mg/kg body weight), and the rats (male and female) were monitored for toxicity signs for a 14-day period. For a 28-day chronic toxicity study, rats were daily administered with PHF dose of 500 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg body weight. Rats were followed up for mortality, weight changes, and other morbidities. Further haematological, biochemical, and histopathological changes were assessed. Results: No death related to treatment or toxicity signs were recorded in the acute single-dose administration group. The results showed that the PHF was tolerated well up to a dose of 1000 mg/kg body weight. Even at the high dose of 1000 mg/kg body weight, sub-chronic tests did not show any significant difference between the dosed and normal groups. No significant changes were seen in the histopathological analysis of the liver, spleen, and kidney as well as haematological and biochemical parameters in acute, sub-chronic and satellite groups following the administration of PHF. Conclusion: The results confirmed that there was no adverse effect of this PHF at the maximum dose of 1000 mg/kg body weight in Wistar rats. Further, no adverse delayed effects related to PHF were observed in the satellite group. Therefore, this PHF appears safe for therapeutic purposes in the Ayurvedic medicinal system.

Hand hygiene is critical in the food service industry. Bacteria can easily be transferred between different surfaces to food during food preparation. Common hygiene practices include hand washing and usage of disposable gloves. Food handlers are often susceptible to transferring pathogenic bacteria to food, thus proper hand hygiene can limit such transmission. While gloves serve as a barrier between bare hands and food, their misuse, including reuse or lack of change, can potentially result in cross-contamination, compromising on food safety. In Singapore, strict regulations and consumer perceptions have encouraged the use of gloves in food handling. This study assessed the microbiological profile of gloves used by food handlers across fifty randomly chosen food establishments, by swabbing samples from the inner and outer surfaces of gloves. Glove samples were also subjected to a watertight test to detect significant physical damage. The results revealed that gloves with damage exhibited significantly higher mean Standard Plate Counts (SPCs), suggesting the likelihood that damaged gloves promoted the transfer of bacteria. Damaged gloves used to handle certain types of food, like noodles and rice dishes, also had significantly higher mean SPC than those used for beverages and snacks. However, gloves without visible damage showed no significant difference in mean SPC across different food types. The study highlighted that proper glove use can help in preventing bacterial transfer and consequently, maintaining food safety. Regular glove changes, particularly when damaged, are imperative. The findings underscore the importance of proper glove use in conjunction with other hand hygiene practices to uphold food hygiene and safety standards.

Food printing technology is going to be the promising technology of future. Advances in 3D food Printing or additive manufacturing technology adds extra dimension to the established food practices and offer opportunities for new interactive experiences. This paper aims to deliver the central flow of 3D food printing process and extends to summarize its knowledge towards the perception of personalized nutrition. The initial flow emphasizes the broad categories of food printing materials and further, to stream the concept of personalized nutrition, a unique attention is focused on latest technological innovations in the 3D printed foodstuffs with different nutritional approaches viz., nutrition enhancement, minerals/vitamins fortification, functional ingredients enrichment and the development of alternative foods. In addition to current prominent scientific researches, literature stuffing adds a new flavor drawing attention on several industrially developed 3D food printed products that are reached and inline to the market. A prominent highlight was embarked on recent technical progress in the development of pharma foods, insect and plant based meat alternatives using 3D printing techniques. It is strongly believed that personalization and customization of 3D printed foods could be a future talk in compromising, unsatisfied nutritional problems and eradicating several chronical diseases in the pandemic era.

Authenticity in meat and meat products is of paramount importance in preventing adulteration and ensuring food safety. Since morphologically indistinct samples like sheep and goat meat requires accurate and sensitive differentiation, we developed and validated a duplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) assay with high-resolution melt analysis (HRMA) for simultaneous identification of sheep and goat meat. Species-specific amplicons with melting temperature of 78 °C for goat and 80 °C for sheep (with associated standard errors) was identified. The assay was optimized for basic PCR parameters and the HRMA detection was standardized based on melt curve shape, color and inflexion points. The absolute limit of detection (LODabs) and limit of quantification (LOQ) of the assay were found to be 0.39 ng and 0.78 ng of target DNA respectively. A sensitivity of 0.1% was obtained for both sheep and goat meat. The relative limit of detection (LODrel) was also found to be 5%. The linearity and efficiency were evaluated in both simplex and duplex assays. The assay applicability was evaluated using proficiency test samples and commercially available raw and processed meat samples. The obtained results showed that this closed-tube qPCR-HRMA method can be a rapid and sensitive detection technique for meat speciation.

Cobalt-modified graphene oxide 3D-nanoarchitecture is fabricated here for its effective use as an electrode material for the sensing of rutin flavonoid and for supercapacitor applications. The graphene oxide preparation was accomplished here comparatively in a shorter period avoiding the tedious and time-consuming preparative pathways in other graphene-oxide-based systems. A sol-gel method was employed for hybridizing graphene with cobalt oxide/hydroxide. Material characterization studies revealed the coexistence of β-Co(OH)2 and spinel Co3O4 in the nanocomposite, whereas FESEM images revealed the 3D nanostructured morphology. The strong interaction between the carbon atoms of graphene sheets with the cobalt species is revealed from the XPS analysis. The synergistic effect provided a good current sensitivity of 1.68 μA/μM towards rutin sensing within a linear detection range of 0.1 μM–20 μM over Co(OH)2–Co3O4/graphene oxide (CoG) modified electrode. High selectivity is offered by the nanocomposite towards rutin and additionally, the sensor succeeded in the detection of a real sample, the rutin tablet. Repeatability and reproducibility in measurements are the added features of the CoG-modified electrode. The diffusion-controlled electrochemical behaviour over CoG was investigated using a redox probe K4[Fe(CN)6]. As a supercapacitor electrode material, the nanocomposite exhibited a maximum specific capacitance of 559.2 F/g at a scan rate of 10 mV/s and 288.4 F/g at 4 A/g current density. Also, it exhibited a high cyclic stability of 109.78% after 1800 continuous charge-discharge cycles displaying its excellence as an energy storage device. The nanocomposite exhibited a dominant contribution from EDLC towards the total capacitance with a low charge transfer resistance.

Post-processing algorithms like histogram equalization and its variants have been widely employed to enhance the contrast of Magnetic Resonance (MR) images. Objective metrics that can collectively reflect the improvement in contrast and inadvertent distortions are necessary to rate the quality of enhanced images. The objective of this paper is to formulate an objective statistic for rating the quality of contrast enhancement on MR images and to test the agreement of the proposed metric with the subjective fidelity ratings. An objective metric named Cumulative Quality of Contrast-Enhanced Images (CQCEI), for assessing the quality of contrast enhancement, especially the performance of the histogram equalization and its variants, on MR images is proposed. The CQCEI is formulated such that it collectively accounts for various aspects of image quality pertaining to the contrast enhancement, namely improvement in contrast, shift in mean brightness, saturation and noise-amplification. The CQCEI has shown good agreement with subjective fidelity ratings on contrast-enhanced MR images.

The pisciculture industry has grown multi-fold over the past few decades. However, a surge in development and nutrient demand has led to the establishment of numerous challenges. Being a potential solution, chitosan has gained attention as a bio nanocomposite for its well-acclaimed properties including biodegradability, non-toxicity, immunomodulatory effects, antimicrobial activity, and biocompatibility. This biopolymer and its derivatives can be transformed into various structures, like micro and nanoparticles, for various purposes. Consequently, with regards to these properties chitin and its derivatives extend their application into drug delivery, food supplementation, vaccination, and preservation. This review focuses on the clinical advancements made in fish biotechnology via chitosan and its derivatives and highlights its prospective expansion into the pisciculture industry—in particular, warm-water species.

Summary: Eph receptors and their ephrin ligands are viewed as promising targets for cancer treatment; however, targeting them is hindered by their context-dependent functionalities. To circumvent this, we explore molecular landscapes underlying their pro- and anti-malignant activities. Using unbiased bioinformatics approaches, we construct a cancer-related network of genetic interactions (GIs) of all Ephs and ephrins to assist in their therapeutic manipulation. We also apply genetic screening and BioID proteomics and integrate them with machine learning approaches to select the most relevant GIs of one Eph receptor, EPHB6. This identifies a crosstalk between EPHB6 and EGFR, and further experiments confirm the ability of EPHB6 to modulate EGFR signaling, enhancing the proliferation of cancer cells and tumor development. Taken together, our observations show EPHB6 involvement in EGFR action, suggesting its targeting might be beneficial in EGFR-dependent tumors, and confirm that the Eph family genetic interactome presented here can be effectively exploited in developing cancer treatment approaches.

Summary: Background: Type 1 diabetes is a complex heterogenous autoimmune disease without therapeutic interventions available to prevent or reverse the disease. This study aimed to identify transcriptional changes associated with the disease progression in patients with recent-onset type 1 diabetes. Methods: Whole-blood samples were collected as part of the INNODIA study at baseline and 12 months after diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. We used linear mixed-effects modelling on RNA-seq data to identify genes associated with age, sex, or disease progression. Cell-type proportions were estimated from the RNA-seq data using computational deconvolution. Associations to clinical variables were estimated using Pearson's or point-biserial correlation for continuous and dichotomous variables, respectively, using only complete pairs of observations. Findings: We found that genes and pathways related to innate immunity were downregulated during the first year after diagnosis. Significant associations of the gene expression changes were found with ZnT8A autoantibody positivity. Rate of change in the expression of 16 genes between baseline and 12 months was found to predict the decline in C-peptide at 24 months. Interestingly and consistent with earlier reports, increased B cell levels and decreased neutrophil levels were associated with the rapid progression. Interpretation: There is considerable individual variation in the rate of progression from appearance of type 1 diabetes-specific autoantibodies to clinical disease. Patient stratification and prediction of disease progression can help in developing more personalised therapeutic strategies for different disease endotypes. An energy efficient information and communication system is a need of the day. Information technology related industries are making efforts to reduce power consumption by improvising both the hardware infrastructure and software systems. The hardware is driven by software; hence, design and development of software may have a significant impact energy need of the overall system. Many times it is observed that complex software performs useless tasks leading to power consumption, referred to as energy leak. The solution of energy leaks for mobile applications has attracted the interest of researchers, but still handling energy leaks issues for applications developed using Java-based technology need to be explored. While designing software during maintenance phase, code smells are introduced which not only reduce performance of the software also may lead to execution of useless code thus enhancing the energy leak. The common practice of the software industry to remove the code smells is use of refactoring strategy. The basic idea of this study is to understand the impact of refactoring on total energy consumption. To explore this hypothesis a set of Java based applications are selected, code smell present in these applications are discovered and a suitable refactoring strategy is applied to reduce the code smell. Power consumption is estimated using an open source tool Microsoft Joulemeter, it monitors energy usage by machine resources and estimates power consumption. The energy consumption before and after refactoring is recorded and statistical t-test is performed to validate the proposed concept.

Ocular retinoblastoma malignancies, which develop into metastatic phenotypes, result in poor prognosis and survival for infant and child patients. To improve the prognosis of metastatic retinoblastoma, it is important to identify novel compounds with less toxic side effects and higher therapeutic efficacy compared to existing chemotherapeutics. Piperlongumine (PL), a neuroprotective, plant-derived compound has been explored for its anticancer activities both in vitro and in vivo. Here, we analyze the potential efficacy of PL for metastatic retinoblastoma cell treatment. Our data reveal that PL treatment significantly inhibits cell proliferation in metastatic retinoblastoma Y79 cells compared to the commonly used retinoblastoma chemotherapeutic drugs carboplatin, etoposide, and vincristine. PL treatment also significantly increases cell death compared to treatment with other chemotherapeutic drugs. PL-induced cell-death signaling was associated with significantly higher caspase 3/7 activities and greater loss of mitochondrial membrane potential. PL was also internalized into Y79 cells with an estimated concentration of 0.310pM and expression analysis revealed reduced MYCN oncogene levels. We next examined extracellular vesicles derived from PL-treated Y79 cells. Extracellular vesicles in other cancers are pro-oncogenic, mediating systemic toxicities via the encapsulation of chemotherapeutic drugs. Within metastatic Y79 EV samples, an estimated PL concentration of 0.026pM was detected. PL treatment significantly downregulated Y79 EV cargo of the oncogene MYCN transcript. Interestingly, non-PL-treated Y79 cells incubated with EVs from PL-treated cells exhibited significantly reduced cell growth. These findings indicate that in metastatic Y79 cells, PL exhibits potent anti-proliferation effects and oncogene downregulation. Importantly, PL is also incorporated into extracellular vesicles released from treated metastatic cells with measurable anti-cancer effects on target cells at a distance from the site of primary treatment. The use of PL in the treatment of metastatic retinoblastoma may reduce primary tumor proliferation and inhibit metastatic cancer activity systemically via extracellular vesicle circulation.

Background and Aims: Radiolabeled short peptide ligands targeting prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) were developed initially for imaging and treatment of prostate cancers. While many nonprostate solid tumors including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) express little PSMA, their neovasculature expresses a high level of PSMA, which is avid for Gallium-68-labeled PSMA-targeting radioligand (68Ga-PSMA-11) for positron emission tomography (PET). However, the lack of a spontaneous animal model of tumor-associated vascular PSMA overexpression has hindered the development and assessment of PSMA-targeting radioligands for imaging and therapy of the nonprostatic cancers. We identified detectable indigenous PSMA expression on tumor neovascular endothelia in a naturally occurring woodchuck model of HCC. Methods: Molecular docking was performed with 3 bait PSMA ligands and compared between human and woodchuck PSMA. Initially, PET images were acquired dynamically after intravenously injecting 37 MBq (1.0 mCi) of 68Ga-PSMA-11 into woodchuck models of HCC. Subsequently, 10-minute static PET scans were conducted for other animals 1-hour after injection due to HCC and liver background uptake stabilization at 30–45 minutes after injection. Liver tissue samples were harvested after imaging, fresh-frozen for quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and western blot for validation, or fixed for histology for correlation. Results: Our preclinical studies confirmed the initial clinical findings of 68Ga-PSMA-11 uptake in HCC. The agents (ligands and antibodies) developed against human PSMA were found to be reactive against the woodchuck PSMA. Conclusion: This animal model offers a unique opportunity for investigating the biogenesis of tumor-associated vascular PSMA, its functional role(s), and potentials for future treatment strategies targeting tumor vascular PSMA using already developed PSMA-targeting agents.

For many years, the impact of Particulate Matter (PM) in the ambient air has been one of the major concerns for the environment and human health. The consideration of the heterogeneity and complexity of different size fractions is notably important for the assessment of PM toxicological effects. The aim of the study was to present a comprehensive size-composition-morphology characterization and to assess the oxidative potential, genotoxicity, and mutagenicity of the atmospheric PM fractions, collected by using MOUDI near a busy roadside in Lucknow, India. Physicochemical characterization of ambient coarse particles (1.8–10 µm), fine particles (0.32–1.8 µm), quasi-ultrafine (0.1–0.32 µm) and ultrafine particles (≤0.1 µm) along with SRM 1649b was done using TEM, SEM, DLS, NTA, ICP-MS, and IC in parallel with the estimation of exogenous Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) by acellular assays. In this study, two different acellular assays, dithiothreitol (DTT) and the CM-H2DCFDA assay, indicated stronger mass-normalized bioactivity for different size ranges. Enrichment factor analysis indicated that the different size fractions were highly enriched with elements of anthropogenic origin as compared to elements of crustal origin. The endotoxin concentration in different size fractions was also estimated. Cellular studies demonstrated significant uptake, cytotoxicity, ultrastructural changes, cellular ROS generation, and changes in the different phases of the cell cycle (Sub G1, G1, S, G2/M) exposed to different size fractions. The Comet assay and the Micronucleus assay were used to estimate genotoxicity. Mutagenic potential was revealed by the HGPRT gene forward mutation assay in V-97 cells. Conclusively, our results clearly indicate that the genotoxic and mutagenic potential of the coarse PM was greater than the other fractions, and interestingly, the ultrafine PM has higher bioactivity as compared to quasi-ultrafine PM.

Today even the commonly used smartphones have high computational power and storage capacity, which make even execution of resource intensive operations possible with them. The increase in computational capability and varied communication features, have resulted in enhancement of energy requirement of these devices. The increasing popularity of mobile computing is always bottlenecked with its battery life. To study the power consumption pattern experiment was conducted on some popular mobile applications under different environment. The energy used by applications was recorded and used as training set to develop a machine learning model that classify these mobiles applications into three categories namely low, medium and high depending on its energy usage, using classification approach. Various Multiclass classification algorithms are explored to find the most accurate model that can be used for classifying the mobile applications. Every day a new mobile application is created for catering a wide range of applications. These applications have new and more interactive features, and consume relatively high energy for execution, leading to drainage of battery. The detailed analysis of logical reasoning behind machine learning models developed in this study will provide designer deeper insight of type of mobile application and its power usage pattern.

The present study aimed to evaluate Heavy metals are persistent and uninterrupted ecological pollutants that are capable to cause numerous dysfunctions in target tissues of exposed animals as well as humans. In the present experimental study, 60 male wistar rats were divided into control and experimental groups. CdCl2 + Vitamin C through water + Vitamin E intraperitonially at a dose of mg/Kg B.W/day for 45 days. Background: Patients with coarctation of aorta (COA) have arterial stiffening, and this is associated with impaired cardiac reserve and hypertensive systolic blood pressure (SBP) response during exercise. However, whether patients with COA have concomitant left ventricular (LV) stiffening and the potential impact of combined ventricular-arterial stiffening on exercise hemodynamics are unknown. Methods: We studied 174 patients with repaired COA (aged 39 ± 11 years and male 103 [59%]) and 174 matched controls. Our study hypotheses are: (1) patients with COA have higher ventricular-arterial stiffness (end-systolic elastance [Ees] and arterial elastance [Ea]) as compared with controls; (2) ventricular-arterial stiffness was associated with LV stroke volume augmentation (ΔLVSV) and SBP augmentation (ΔSBP) during exercise among patients with COA. Results: Despite similar systolic SBP, patients with COA had higher Ea (1.8 ± 0.4 vs 1.4 ± 0.4 mm Hg/mL, P < 0.001), higher Ees (2.41 ± 0.65 vs 2.17 ± 0.40 mm Hg/mL, P < 0.001), but similar Ea/Ees (0.87 ± 0.29 vs 0.83 ± 0.33, P = 0.2). ΔLVSV was 6.1 ± 1.4 mL/beat. Combined ventricular-arterial stiffness had a stronger correlation with ΔLVSV as compared with Ea alone (r = −0.53 vs r = −0.41, P = 0.006) and as compared with Ees alone (r = −0.53 vs r = −0.46, P = 0.02). ΔSBP was 48 ± 21 mm Hg. Combined ventricular-arterial stiffness had a stronger correlation with ΔSBP as compared with Ea alone (r = 0.57 vs r = 0.43, P < 0.001) and as compared with Ees alone (r = 0.57 vs r = −0.39, P < 0.001). Conclusion: Patients with COA had combined ventricular-arterial stiffening, and this was associated with impaired cardiac reserve and hypertensive SBP response during exercise. These findings provide foundation for further studies to determine whether drugs that reduce both ventricular and arterial stiffness will improve exercise capacity and hemodynamics in this unique population. Résumé: Contexte: La coarctation de l’aorte (CA) s’accompagne d’une rigidification des artères, qui est à son tour associée à une altération de la réserve de force du cœur et à une augmentation de la pression artérielle systolique (PAS) à l’effort. On ne sait toutefois pas si la CA entraîne aussi une rigidification du ventricule gauche, et on ne connaît pas les répercussions possibles d’une rigidification ventriculaire et artérielle sur les paramètres hémodynamiques à l’effort. Méthodologie: Nous avons étudié 174 patients présentant une CA corrigée (âge : 39 ± 11 ans; hommes : 103 [59 %]) et 174 témoins appariés. Nos hypothèses étaient les suivantes : 1) la rigidité ventriculaire et artérielle (élastance télésystolique [ETS] et élastance artérielle [EA]) est plus importante chez les sujets présentant une CA que chez les sujets témoins; 2) la rigidité ventriculaire et artérielle est associée à une augmentation du volume d’éjection ventriculaire gauche (ΔVEVG) et à une augmentation de la pression artérielle systolique (ΔPAS) à l’effort chez les patients présentant une CA. Introduction: Concerns are prevailing about the safety and side effects of the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Methods: A randomized, cross-sectional study was performed to investigate the side effects of the BNT162b2 vaccine using an independent online questionnaire gathering responses from healthcare workers (HCWs) with detailed review of organ systems. Results: Of all HCWs, 87.98% (1245/1415) completed the survey. Of them, 64.5% (803/1245) received the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine and reported at least one or more symptoms (classified based on organ systems and occurrence rate) post vaccination. Of these, 640/803 (79.7%) were able to continue activities of daily living (ADL), 103/803 (12.83%) had trouble temporarily to perform ADL, 99/803 (12.33%) took time off work temporarily, 20/803 (2.49%) required help from an outpatient provider, 5/803 (0.62%) required help from an emergency department and 2/803 (0.25%) required hospitalization. Despite this, 97.61% intended to have the second dose and 92.9% had already received it. Conclusions: Commonly reported symptoms (occurrence in descending order) were soreness, fatigue, myalgia, headache, chills, fever, joint pain, nausea, muscle spasm, sweating, dizziness, flushing, feelings of relief, brain fogging, anorexia, localized swelling, decreased sleep quality, itching, tingling, diarrhoea, nasal stuffiness and palpitations. Despite this, remarkable acceptance for the second dose of the BNT162b2 vaccine was found among HCWs.

Background: The mortality and morbidity rate of diabetes patients is increasing worldwide which requires an ideal treatment to prevent the disease worsening. Background: Osteoporosis is a public health problem in the elderly wherein a decrease in bone mass and mineral density increases the at risk of fractures. Panchatikta Ghrita (PG) is a classical Ayurvedic formulation that may help slow bone degeneration. Objective: This experimental study was conducted to assess the efficacy of Panchatikta ghrita (PG) in protecting against postmenopausal osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats. Materials and methods: The experiment was initiated after Institutional Animal Ethics Committee approval. 96 female Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 8 groups viz. sham control (NC), diseased control (DC), vehicle control (VC), 3 test drug (PG) groups (PG1, PG2 & PG3 - 0.9, 1.8 and 2.7gm/kg body weight respectively) and 2 standard control (SC) groups - SC1 received 17α-ethinylestradiol 1μg/kg/day while SC2 received alendronate (7mg/kg/week). Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Cap. Torchnil & Tab. Febcin when given as add-on therapy to Covid19 positive patients with moderate disease. Material and methods: Following written informed consent, patients were randomized to receive Cap. Torchnil & Tab. Febcin in addition to standard of care (SOC) [Add-on Group] or only SOC [SOC Group] for 14 days. Effect on clinical symptoms, WHO Clinical Assessment scale, hospital stay duration, time to Covid negative report, Sp02 levels and biomarkers was assessed during admission and relapse rate, if any, post discharge for 3 months. Results: 193 patients were screened and 150 completed the study, 77 in Add-on Group and 73 in SOC Group. Improvement in Covid related symptoms, WHO Assessment scale, time to covid negative report and duration of hospital stay was observed earlier in Add-on Group. Statistically significant fall in biomarker levels viz. CPK, D-dimer and IL-6 values at Day 14 and LDH levels at Days 7 & 14 was observed in Add-on Group. Improvement in Sp02 levels was also seen earlier in Add-on Group. Only 2 patients complained of acidity. Post discharge, 91 patients (49 from Add-on group and 42 from SOC group) came for physical visits. All these patients were clinically stable with no evidence of relapse. Conclusion: The study results thus showed that Cap. Torchnil and Tab. Febcin were effective and safe when given as add-on therapy to SOC in the clinical management of patients with moderate Covid-19 disease.

Renewable biomass as a sustainable feedstock has been enormously explored for the manufacturing of high value-added products such as biofuels, commodity chemicals, and new bio-based materials. The present paper describes the synthesis of a series of natural zeolite based catalysts by loading different weight percentage of phosphomolybdic acid. The efficiency of catalysts were checked by conversion of carbohydrate (glucose and fructose) to 5-HMF, which is an important industrial chemical used in the production of various value-added chemicals, materials and biofuels.

Background and aim: Chrysin is a flavonoid found in plant extracts from Passiflora species, honey and propolis. It has demonstrated anti-adipogenic activity in vitro but there are no studies substantiating the anti-obesity activity of chrysin in vivo. Experimental procedure: The pancreatic lipase (PL) inhibitory potential of chrysin was determined by preliminary in silico screening and further confirmed by in vitro PL inhibitory assay and oral fat tolerance test (OFTT). The effect of chrysin on acute feed intake and sucrose preference test was determined in normal rats. Obesity was induced by feeding of high fructose diet (HFD) to the rats. The rats were divided into six groups: normal control, HFD control, orlistat and three doses of chrysin (25, 50 and 100 mg/kg body weight). Body weight, body mass index (BMI), abdominal circumference/thoracic circumference (AC/TC) ratio, calorie intake, adiposity index, fecal cholesterol, locomotor activity and histopathology of the adipose tissue of the rats were evaluated. Results: Chrysin showed good affinity to PL with competitive type of inhibition. It significantly reduced serum triglycerides in OFTT. Chrysin also significantly reduced acute feed intake and sucrose preference in rats. Chrysin significantly decreased the body weight, BMI, AC/TC ratio, adiposity index, calorie intake while it significantly increased the fecal cholesterol and locomotor activity of the rats. Chrysin was found to reduce the size of the adipocytes when compared to the HFD control group. Conclusion: Thus, chrysin exerted anti-obesity effect by inhibiting PL, reducing sucrose preference, reducing calorie intake and increasing the locomotor activity of rats.

Rationale & Objective: Older patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) use intensive care at the end of life and die in a hospital more frequently than patients with cancer or heart disease. Advance care planning (ACP) can help align treatment with patient preferences and improve patient-centered care, yet ACP quality and experiences among older patients with CKD and their care partners remain incompletely understood, particularly among the non–dialysis-dependent population. Study Design: In-person interviewer-administered surveys of patients 70 years and older with non–dialysis-dependent CKD stage 4 or 5 and their self-identified care partners. Setting & Participants: 42 participants (31 patients, 11 care partners) at 2 clinical sites in greater Boston. Outcomes: Completion of advance directives and self-reported perceptions, preferences, and experiences of ACP. Analytical Approach: Descriptive analysis of patient and care partner surveys. McNemar test analysis to compare patient and care partner responses. Results: Most patients had written advance directives (64%) and surrogate decision makers (81%). Although patients reported positive perceptions and high trust in their clinicians’ judgment, few (16%) had actually discussed preferences for life-sustaining treatment with their nephrologists. Few ACP discussions included components reflective of high-quality ACP: 16% of patients had been asked about their values concerning end-of-life care and 7% had discussed issues of decision-making capacity and consent to care should their health decline. When presented with 2 hypothetical scenarios (stroke/heart attack or dementia), nearly all patients and care partners reported a preference for comfort care over delaying death. Care partners were more likely than patients to report that they had experienced discussion components reflective of high-quality ACP with the clinical team. Limitations: Single metropolitan area; most patients did not identify a care partner; nonresponse bias and small sample size. Conclusions: Patients often believed that their clinicians understood their end-of-life wishes despite not having engaged in ACP conversations that would make those wishes known. Improving clinical ACP communication may result in end-of-life treatment that better aligns with patient goals.
