The ν 1  + 2ν 2  + ν 3 band of 12 CO 2 is dominated by weak absorption lines near 2.0 uμm, which has potential application in planetary atmosphere, astrophysical, and hydrocarbon fuel combustion investigations. High-quality spectral line parameters are the foundation of spectroscopic technology. In this work, high-resolution infrared spectra of CO 2 were recorded over 5005-5008 cm -1 range using a Distributed Feedback (DFB) laser with a linewidth of Δν < 0.0001 cm -1 . H 2 -, N 2 -, O 2 -, Ar-, air- and CO 2 - line-intensity, collision broadening coefficients, pressure shift coefficients were determined for CO 2 transitions R44e, R46 e, R48 e, R50 e at room temperature. Voigt and Rautian profiles were utilized to retrieve the measured line shape of each individual transition at various pressures. The new data extend and complement previous measurements over the target spectral region. In addition, a comprehensive analysis of the measured spectral line shape parameters is conducted to elucidate the characteristics of spectral line intensity, broadening, and pressure-induced shift coefficients under different molecular collision conditions. Background: Leukocytes are induced to migrate into the uterus at parturition, releasing cytokines and chemokines that activate it for delivery. A specific chemotactic signal is required for these actions, and published evidence suggests that it comes from the human fetal membranes and has a time-dependent component (ie, cells obtained at term in labor migrate more than cells obtained at term not yet in labor). The hypothesis that the fetal membrane chemoattractants activate the leukocytes to become responsive for migration was tested., Objective: This study aimed to: (1) examine the changes in leukocyte migration-responsiveness longitudinally from the late third trimester, to in labor, to 3 days postpartum; (2) explore the specific week-to-week changes in migration before delivery; (3) define the timing of chemokine receptor expression patterns in leukocytes relative to migration and the changes in cytokine and chemokine concentrations in maternal serum; (4) examine the ability of term fetal membrane-conditioned medium and term maternal serum to increase cell responsiveness; and (5) test the potential of the leukocyte migration assay to predict delivery within 1 week., Study Design: Leukocyte migration in response to a chemoattractive extract of term human fetal membranes was studied using a modified Boyden chamber. Flow cytometry assessed migrated cell phenotypes. The relationship between the expression of chemokine receptors and migration was tested using quantitative polymerase chain reaction, the bioassay, and regression analyses. Cytokines and chemokines in maternal serum were quantified using multiplex analysis. Conditioned medium from fetal membrane explants and maternal serum were evaluated for their abilities to enhance leukocyte migration using the bioassay. The ability of the bioassay to predict term delivery was assessed using receiver-operating characteristic curve and cost-curve analysis., Results: The number of leukocytes that migrated at term delivery was increased relative to the late third trimester, followed by a significant fall in numbers that migrated at 3 days postpartum (P=.002). The largest increase in migrated cells occurred 1 to 2 weeks before delivery. The messenger RNA abundance of several chemokine receptors increased in peripheral leukocytes at term in labor relative to the third trimester, and this correlated with an increase in migrated cells in 5 of 6 cases (R=0.589 to 0.897; P<.03). The concentrations of several chemokines and cytokines in maternal serum increased with labor onset. Fetal membrane explant-conditioned medium and maternal serum obtained at term labor increased the responsiveness of leukocytes to fetal membrane chemoattractive extract. The bioassay was demonstrated to predict delivery within 7 days with excellent performance characteristics using a cohort prevalence of 71.7% (positive predictive value=96.1%; negative predictive value=58.5%; sensitivity=74.2%; specificity=92.3%; positive likelihood ratio=9.25; and negative likelihood ratio=0.28). The significance of the tumor microenvironment (TME) in tumor initiation and progression is increasingly acknowledged. Conventional therapeutic approaches face limitations within the complex TME, including the restrictions imposed by hypoxia on photodynamic therapy (PDT) and the deficiency of endogenous H₂O₂ affecting chemodynamic therapy (CDT). In response to the TME's characteristics of high metabolism, hypoxia, and weak acidity, a multifunctional nanosystem MNPs/GOD@CS/IR820, which synergistically integrates CDT and PDT, has been developed. This system can actively accumulate at tumor sites under an external magnetic field and release active components in response to the weakly acidic TME. It mitigates the limitations imposed by hypoxia and endogenous H₂O₂ deficiency on PDT and CDT, respectively, thereby enabling synergistic treatment. Additionally, the system's multimodal imaging capabilities facilitate precise tumor localization and real-time, non-invasive in vivo assessment via fluorescence imaging and MRI. In vitro and in vivo evaluations demonstrate significant antitumor efficacy, effectively inhibiting tumor growth and improving survival rates. By comprehensively addressing the challenges posed by the complex TME and enhancing real-time monitoring capabilities, our nanosystem paves the way for personalized and precise cancer treatment. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: This study introduces an innovative MNPs/GOD@CS/IR820 nanosystem that represents a significant advancement in cancer nanomedicine by addressing critical limitations of conventional photodynamic therapy (PDT), particularly in hypoxic tumor microenvironments. By synergistically integrating chemodynamic therapy (CDT) with PDT and incorporating MRI and fluorescence dual-modal imaging capabilities, this multifunctional platform offers enhanced therapeutic efficacy and real-time monitoring. The system's ability to generate oxygen in situ overcomes hypoxia-induced limitations, while its multimodal mechanism of action induces tumor cell apoptosis through multiple pathways. In vitro and in vivo studies demonstrate remarkable antitumor efficacy across diverse cancer types, significantly inhibiting tumor growth and improving survival rates. Quorum sensing (QS) is a cellular communication mechanism in which bacteria secrete and recognize signaling molecules to regulate group behavior. Lipases provide energy for bacterial cell growth but it is unknown whether they influence nutrient-dependent QS by hydrolyzing substrate. A high-yield lipase-producing strain, Burkholderia pyrrocinia WZ10-3, was previously identified in our laboratory, but the composition of its crude enzymes was not elucidated. Here, we identified a key extracellular lipase, Lip1728, in WZ10-3, which accounts for 99 % of the extracellular lipase activity. Lip1728 prefers to hydrolyze triglycerides at sn-1,3 positions, with pNP-C16 being its optimal substrate. Lip1728 exhibited activity at pH 5.0-10.0 and regardless of the presence of metal ions. It had strong resistance to sodium dodecyl sulfate and short-chain alcohols and was activated by phenylmethanesulfonylfluoride (PMSF). Lip1728 knockout significantly affected lipid metabolism and biofilm formation in the presence of olive oil. Finally, oleic acid, a hydrolysate of Lip1728, influenced the production of the signal molecule N-acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) and biofilm formation by downregulating the AHL synthetase gene pyrI. Due to dwindling petroleum resources and the need for environmental protection, the development of bio-based flame retardants has received much attention. In order to explore the feasibility of fully biomass polyelectrolyte complexes (PEC) for polyolefin flame retardant applications, chitosan (CS), sodium alginate (SA), and sodium phytate (SP) were used to prepare CS-based fully biomass PEC intercalated montmorillonite (MMT) hybrid biomaterials (SA-CS@MMT and SP-CS@MMT). The effects of two hybrid biomaterials on the fire safety and mechanical properties of intumescent flame-retardant polypropylene (PP) composites were compared. The SP-CS@MMT showed the best flame retardancy and toughening effect at the same addition amount. After adding 5 wt% SP-CS@MMT, the limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of PP5 reached 30.9 %, and the peak heat release rate (pHRR) decreased from 1348 kW/m 2 to 163 kW/m 2 . In addition, the hydrogen bonding between polyelectrolyte complexes significantly improved the mechanical properties of PP composites. Compared with PP2, the tensile strength of PP5 increased by 59 %. Transparent bamboo proved to be a promising substitute for glass due to its high light transmittance and excellent mechanical properties. Nevertheless, it was susceptible to outdoor weathering, which negatively affected its physical and mechanical properties. In this study, two decolorisation methods, namely the delignification method and the lignin modification method, were used to produce transparent bamboos with epoxy resin, referred to as DL-TB and LM-TB, respectively. The changes in surface color, optical and mechanical properties, wettability, thermal stability, and thermal insulation properties of transparent bamboo during accelerated UV weathering were evaluated. Additionally, the deterioration mechanism of DL-TB and LM-TB was investigated. The findings revealed that DL-TB demonstrated better transparency and mechanical properties than LM-TB, although it exhibited lower thermal insulation properties. Furthermore, DL-TB demonstrated enhanced color stability and higher hydrophobicity on weathered surfaces than LM-TB. Unexpectedly, the tensile properties of both two transparent bamboos significantly improved after weathering, especially for LM-TB, which was due to the EP post-curing and the formation of more hydrogen bonds between lignin and EP. Dengue fever is a viral illness, mainly transmitted by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. With climate change and urbanisation, more urbanised areas are becoming suitable for the survival and reproduction of dengue vector, consequently are becoming suitable for dengue transmission in China. Chongqing, a metropolis in southwestern China, has recently been hit by imported and local dengue fever, experiencing its first local outbreak in 2019. However, the genetic evolution dynamics of dengue viruses and the spatiotemporal patterns of imported and local dengue cases have not yet been elucidated. Hence, this study implemented phylogenetic analyses using genomic data of dengue viruses in 2019 and 2023 and a spatiotemporal analysis of dengue cases collected from 2013 to 2022. We sequenced a total of 15 nucleotide sequences of E genes. The dengue viruses formed separate clusters and were genetically related to those from Guangdong Province, China, and countries in Southeast Asia, including Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia. Chongqing experienced a dengue outbreak in 2019 when 168 imported and 1,243 local cases were reported, mainly in September and October. Few cases were reported in 2013-2018, and only six were imported from 2020 to 2022 due to the COVID-19 lockdowns. Our findings suggest that dengue prevention in Chongqing should focus on domestic and overseas population mobility, especially in the Yubei and Wanzhou districts, where airports and railway stations are located, and the period between August and October when dengue outbreaks occur in endemic regions. Moreover, continuous vector monitoring should be implemented, especially during August-October, which would be useful for controlling the Aedes mosquitoes. Background: Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC), the second most prevalent thyroid cancer after papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), tends to metastasize distantly, leading to poorer outcomes. Despite substantial research, a holistic bibliometric analysis of FTC literature is lacking. This study aims to fill this gap by employing bibliometric methods to track FTC research evolution., Methods: English FTC publications were systematically gathered from the Web of Science. Bibliometric analysis, using R, VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Excel, synthesized data and explored global research trends and topics., Results: From 2000 to 2023, 9086 authors from 1953 institutions across 75 countries contributed to 1776 papers in 491 academic journals on FTC. The last two decades have witnessed a steady increase in publications related to FTC, with the United States leading in terms of publication volume. The United States dominated both in publications and citations, with the National Cancer Institute and Sheue-Yann Cheng as leading contributors. The journal 'Thyroid' featured the most publications, while the 'Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism' ranked highest in citation frequency. Research focused on gene expression analysis and preoperative diagnostics, with recent trends shifting toward prognosis management and machine learning due to advances in medical technology and increased health awareness., Conclusion: This comprehensive bibliometric analysis has mapped the landscape of FTC research, highlighting key contributors, institutions, and thematic trends. In this study, a novel adsorbent, A-PEI/CS-Cu 2+ , was developed by crosslinking polyethyleneimine/chitosan hydrogel with acrolein and loading it with copper ions. The adsorption process of A-PEI/CS-Cu 2+ on the anionic dye acid yellow 36 (AY36) was investigated by kinetic, isothermal and thermodynamic modeling. It was noteworthy that A-PEI/CS-Cu 2+ exhibited rapid adsorption with a 90 % removal rate achieved within just 5 min, which was much faster than the adsorption rate of A-PEI/CS without load of copper ions and showed its potential for rapid adsorption applications. The maximum adsorption capacity for AY36 could reach up to 3114 mg g -1 . In addition, the high concentration of saline wastewater was found to have almost no effect on the adsorption reaction in the salt effect test experiment. In five desorption-regeneration cycle experiments, the sample exhibited good recyclability and regeneration performance. The driving force of the adsorption process mainly originated from the electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bonding, and intermolecular interaction, in which the addition of copper ions led to the enhancement of the electrostatic interaction and chelation between A-PEI/CS-Cu 2+ and AY36. Hydrovoltaic is an emerging technology that aims to harvest energy from water flow and evaporation, in which the plasmonic hydrogen ions are generated by the interaction between water and hydrovoltaic device. However, the volume of the water sample for the interaction is usually ultra-small due to the compact size of hydrovoltaic device, making the quantification and characterization of the hydrogen ions in such water sample an elusive goal. To address this issue, a miniature fiber-optic pH probe is proposed using a unilaterally tapered-microfiber Bragg grating. The microfiber Bragg grating has an intrinsic Bragg reflection signal with a narrow linewidth. The fiber probe is functionalized by coating the sodium alginate, which can respond to the variation of pH mediated by the alteration of the hydrophilicity. The rigidity and robustness of microfiber Bragg grating facilitates the encapsulation of the sensor into a sampling capillary, allowing for the detection of trace aqueous sample less than 2 μL. The pH sensitivity of the tapered-μFBG-based sensor is 62.8 p.m./pH (R 2  = 0.995) with a limit resolution of 0.096 pH. The sensor performed a practical application in the monitoring and characterization of the hydrovoltaic microdevice, which can generate microcurrent as soaked in the water. The influence of uranium (U) mining on the fungal diversity (FD) and communities (FC) structure was investigated in this work. Our results revealed that soil FC richness and FD indicators obviously decreased due to U, such as Chao1, observed OTUs and Shannon index (P<0.05). Moreover, the abundances of Mortierella, Gibberella, and Tetracladium were notably reduced in soil samples owing to U mining activities (P<0.05). In contrast, the abundances of Cadophora, Pseudogymnoascus, Mucor, and Sporormiella increased in all soil samples after U mining (P<0.05). Furthermore, U mining not only dramatically influenced the Plant&#95;Pathogen guild and Saprotroph and Pathotroph modes (P<0.05), but also induced the differentiation of soil FC and the enrichment of the Animal&#95;Pathogen-Soil&#95;Saprotroph and Endophyte guilds and Symbiotroph and Pathotroph Saprotroph trophic modes. In addition, various fungal populations and guilds were enriched to deal with the external stresses caused by U mining in different U mining areas and soil depths (P<0.05). Finally, nine U-tolerant fungi were isolated and identified with a minimum inhibitory concentration range of 400-600 mg/L, and their adsorption efficiency for U ranged from 11.6% to 37.9%. While antimony (Sb) and arsenic (As) co-contamination in subsurface soil systems due to the legacy of Sb smelting wastes has been documented, the role of inherent heterogeneity on pollutant migration is largely overlooked. Herein this study investigated Sb and As migration in a slag impacted, vertically stratified subsurface at an abandoned Sb smelter. A 2-dimensional flume was assembled as a lab-scale analogue of the site and subject to rainfall and stop-rain events. Reactive transport modeling was then performed by matching the experimental observations to verify the key factors and processes controlling pollutant migration. Results showed that rainfall caused Sb and As release from the shallow slag layer and promoted their downward movement. Nevertheless, the less permeable deeper layers limited physical flow and transport, which led to Sb and As accumulation at the interface. The re-adsorption of Sb and As onto iron oxides in the deeper, more acidic layers further retarded their migration. Because of the large difference between Sb and As concentrations, Sb re-adsorption was much less effective, which led to higher mobility. Zonation is a typical pattern of soil distribution and species assembly across riparian habitats. Microorganisms are essential members of riparian ecosystems and whether soil microbial communities demonstrate similar zonation patterns and how bulk and rhizosphere soil microorganisms interact along the elevation (submergence stress) gradient remain largely unknown. In this study, bulk and rhizosphere (dominant plant) soil samples were collected and investigated across riparian zones where the submergence stress intensity increased as the elevation decreased. Results showed that the richness of bacterial communities in bulk and rhizosphere soil samples was significantly different and presented a zonation pattern along with the submergence stress gradient. Bulk soil at medium elevation that underwent moderate submergence stress had the most abundant bacterial communities, while the species richness of rhizobacteria at low elevation that experienced serious submergence stress was the highest. Additionally, principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) and significance tests showed that bulk and rhizosphere soil samples were distinguished according to the structure of bacterial communities, and so were bulk or rhizosphere soil samples from different elevations. Redundancy analysis (RDA) and Mantel test suggested that bacterial communities of bulk soil mainly relied on the contents of soil organic matter, total carbon (TC), total nitrogen (TN), sodium (Na), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg). Contrastingly, the contents of Na and Mg were the main factors explaining the variation in rhizobacterial community composition. Correlation and microbial source tracking analyses showed thatthe relationship of bulk and rhizosphere soil bacteria became much stronger, and the rhizosphere soil may get more bacterial communities from bulk soil with the increase in submergence severity. The detection of trace cancer markers in body fluids such as blood/serum is crucial for cancer diseases screening and treatment, which requires high sensitivity and specificity of biosensors. In this study, a peanut structure cascaded lasso (PSCL) shaped fiber sensing probe based on fiber laser demodulation method was proposed to specifically detect the carcinoembryonic antigen related cell adhesion molecules 5 (CEACAM5) protein in serum. Thanks for the narrow linewidth and high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the laser spectrum, it is easier to distinguish small spectral changes than interference spectrum. Adding the antibody modified magnetic microspheres (MMS) to form the sandwich structure of "antibody-antigen-antibody-MMS", and amplified the response caused by biomolecular binding. The limit of detection (LOD) for CEACAM5 in buffer could reach 0.11 ng/mL. Considering the common threshold of 5 ng/mL for CEA during medical screening and the cut off limit of 2.5 ng/mL for some kits, the LOD of proposed biosensor meets the actual needs. Human serum samples from a hospital were used to validate the real sensing capability of proposed biosensor. The deviation between the measured value in various serum samples and the clinical value ranged from 1.9 to 9.8 %. Human trophoblastic lineage development is intertwined with placental development and pregnancy outcomes, but the regulatory mechanisms underpinning this process remain inadequately understood. In this study, based on single-nuclei RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) analysis of the human early maternal-fetal interface, we compared the gene expression pattern of trophoblast at different developmental stages. Our findings reveal a predominant upregulation of TBX3 during the transition from villous cytotrophoblast (VCT) to syncytiotrophoblast (SCT), but downregulation of TBX3 as VCT progresses into extravillous trophoblast cells (EVT). Immunofluorescence analysis verified the primary expression of TBX3 in SCT, partial expression in MKi67-positive VCT, and absence in HLA-G-positive EVT, consistent with our snRNA-seq results. Using immortalized trophoblastic cell lines (BeWo and HTR8/SVneo) and human primary trophoblast stem cells (hTSCs), we observed that TBX3 knockdown impedes SCT formation through RAS-MAPK signaling, while TBX3 overexpression disrupts the cytoskeleton structure of EVT and hinders EVT differentiation by suppressing FAK signaling. In conclusion, our study suggests that the spatiotemporal expression of TBX3 plays a critical role in regulating trophoblastic lineage development via distinct signaling pathways. Mercury (Hg) is a globally distributed toxic metal and could pose serious harm to birds, which may ultimately threaten human health through poultry consumption. However, the avian Hg metabolism remains unclear. Poultry, like chickens, are more accessible human dietary sources than wild birds and are ideal proxies to study Hg metabolism in birds. In this study, the avian Hg metabolism is carefully investigated with hens fed by Hg-spiked (both inorganic mercury IHg and methylmercury MeHg) foods. Our results demonstrate that feces and eggs are the main removal pathways of Hg from hens, rather than feathers. Eggs show particularly rapid responses towards Hg exposures, thus could be more sensitive to environmental Hg pollution than feathers, feces or internal organs (and tissues). Egg yolk (with THg peak of 55.92 ng/g on Day 6) and egg white (THg peak of 1195.03 ng/g on Day 4) react as an effective bioindicator for IHg and MeHg exposure, respectively. In 90-day-single-dose exposure, IHg is almost completely excreted, while approximately 11% of MeHg remains in internal organs. Heavy metal contamination negatively affects plants and animals in water as well as soils. Some microalgae can remove heavy metal contaminants from wastewater. The aim of this study was to screen green microalgae (GM) to identify those that tolerate high concentrations of toxic heavy metals in water as possible candidates for phytoremediation. Analyses of the tolerance, physiological parameters, ultrastructure, and transcriptomes of GM under Cd/Pb treatments were conducted. Compared with the other GM, Chlorella pyrenoidosa showed stronger tolerance to high concentrations of Cd/Pb. The reduced glutathione content and peroxidase activity were higher in C. pyrenoidosa than those in the other GM. Ultrastructural observations showed that, compared with other GM, C. pyrenoidosa had less damage to the cell surface and interior under Cd/Pb toxicity. Transcriptome analyses indicated that the "peroxisome" and "sulfur metabolism" pathways were enriched with differentially expressed genes under Cd/Pb treatments, and that CpSAT, CpSBP, CpKAT2, Cp2HPCL, CpACOX, CpACOX2, and CpACOX4, all of which encode antioxidant enzymes, were up-regulated under Cd/Pb treatments. These results show that C. pyrenoidosa has potential applications in the remediation of polluted water, and indicate that antioxidant enzymes contribute to Cd/Pb detoxification. Flavohemoglobins (Fhbs) are key enzymes involved in microbial nitrosative stress resistance and nitric oxide degradation. However, the roles of Fhbs in fungi remain largely unknown. In this study, SpFhb1 and SpFhb2, two flavohemoglobin-encoding genes in Saitozyma podzolica zwy2-3 were characterized. Protein structure analysis and molecular docking showed that SpFhbs were conserved in bacteria and fungi. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that SpFhb2 may be acquired through the transfer event of independent horizontal genes from bacteria. The expression levels of SpFhb1 and SpFhb2 showed opposite trend under high/low dissolved oxygen, implying that they may exhibited different functions. Through deletion and overexpression of SpFhbs, we confirmed that SpFhbs were conducive to lipid accumulation under high stress. The sensitivities of ΔFhb mutants to NO stress were significantly increased compared with that in the WT, indicating that they were required for NO detoxification and nitrosative stress resistance in S. podzolica zwy2-3. Furthermore, SpAsg1 was identified that simultaneously regulates SpFhbs, which functions in the lipid accumulation under high/low dissolved oxygen and NO stress in S. podzolica zwy2-3. The structure and constituents of sedimentary organic matter (SOM) in the degradation of benzene ring- 14 C labeled 4-nonylphenol ( 14 C-NP) by sodium persulfate (Na 2 S 2 O 8 ) were investigated. Na 2 S 2 O 8 mineralized over 84 % of 14 C-NP to 14 CO 2 , and no parent unlabeled 4-nonylphenol (NP) compounds were detected in the water-soluble/supernatant phase or extractable residues. Organic carbon (OC) was sequentially separated from six sediment samples collected from the Pearl River (BET), estuary (GSD), continental shelf (S11 and S21), and deep sea (M9 and M10). Demineralized OC (DM), unstable OC (USOC), nonhydrolyzable OC (NHC), and resistant OC (ROC) were obtained and characterized using solid-state 13 C nuclear magnetic resonance (SS-NMR). The correlations among USOC, NHC, and the degradation kinetic constant of 14 C-NP (k NP ) were significant (R 2  > 0.86, p < 0.01), indicating that USOC and NHC were the main factors controlling 14 C-NP degradation. SOM structure and constituent analyses indicated that O-alkyl C + OCH 3 /NCH C + COO/NC=O C and carbohydrate + protein were positively related to Ln(k NP ) (R 2  > 0.72, p < 0.05) because these structures were unstable. However, the stable structures (Alkyl C and Arom CC) and constituents (sporopollenin, algaenan, and char) hindered 14 C-NP degradation because they were negatively related to Ln(k NP ) (R 2  > 0.81, p < 0.05). The OC removal rate was positively correlated with 14 C-NP degradation (R 2  > 0.86, p < 0.01), indicating that the NP was primarily degraded in parallel with the breakdown of SOM. Stoichiometric analysis showed that Na 2 S 2 O 8 effectively oxidized over 58 % of the OC to CO 2 , and the electron transfer efficiency was 17.2-69.5 %. Depleted uranium (DU) can cause damage to the body, but its effects on the thyroid are unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the DU-induced thyroid damage and its potential mechanism in order to find new targets for detoxification after DU poisoning. A model of acute exposure to DU was constructed in rats. It was observed that DU accumulated in the thyroid, induced thyroid structure disorder and cell apoptosis, and decreased the serum T4 and FT4 levels. Gene screening showed that thrombospondin 1 (TSP-1) was a sensitive gene of DU, and the expression of TSP-1 decreased with the increase of DU exposure dose and time. TSP-1 knockout mice exposed to DU had more severe thyroid damage and lower serum FT4 and T4 levels than wild-type mice. Inhibiting the expression of TSP-1 in FRTL-5 cells aggravated DU-induced apoptosis, while exogenous TSP-1 protein alleviated the decreased viability in FRTL-5 cells caused by DU. It was suggested that DU may caused thyroid damage by down-regulating TSP-1. It was also found that DU increased the expressions of PERK, CHOP, and Caspase-3, and 4-Phenylbutyric (4-PBA) alleviated the DU-induced FRTL-5 cell viability decline and the decrease levels of rat serum FT4 and T4 caused by DU. After DU exposure, the PERK expression was further up-regulated in TSP-1 knockout mice, and the increased expression of PERK was alleviated in TSP-1 over-expressed cells, as well as the increased expression of CHOP and Caspase-3. Further verification showed that inhibition of PERK expression could reduce the DU-induced increased expression of CHOP and Caspase-3. Environmental Cadmium (Cd) is a toxicant with widespread exposure, documented adverse effects on bone homeostasis, and makes the onset of osteoporosis (OP), one of the age-related chronic diseases an enormous burden to modern societies worldwide. Aging is the largest risk factor for a multitude of age-related diseases and osteoblasts senescence reduces bone formation and is a key factor for osteoporosis. Despite anti-aging molecules the nuclear silent information regulator of transcription 1 (SIRT1) actions in chondrocytes and bone cells are critical for normal skeletal development and homeostasis, much less is known about the role of SIRT1 in osteoporosis. Here, we aim to demonstrate that SIRT1 mediates osteoblasts' senescence response to OP caused by Cd. The senescent osteoblasts accumulation and their viability were analyzed after Cd exposure. To explore the effects and mechanism of SIRT1 in Cd-induced osteoblastic senescence, we generated SIRT1-overexpressed osteoblast and SIRT1 conditional overexpression in the rat femur. Meanwhile, the OP rat model was established by removing bilateral ovaries. We found decreased SIRT1 expression and senescent osteoblasts accumulation after Cd exposure. Meanwhile, Cd exposure increased P53, P16INK4a, and P21CIPI proteins level, triggered DNA damage response (DDR) through the phosphorylation of ATM and H2AX, and caused mitochondrial dysfunction by the increased acetylation of SOD2 and excessive mitophagy. SIRT1 overexpression attenuated DDR and mitochondrial dysfunction and downregulated the increase of hall makers senescence caused by Cd in osteoblasts. We found overexpression of osteoblastic SIRT1 protects against Cd-induced senescence, which is likely driven by ATM-mediated DDR and SOD2 ace -mediated mitochondrial dysfunction. Our study demonstrates the mechanism of SIRT1 in mediating bone homeostasis via senescence. Both gradual and abrupt changes in lake surface area in permafrost regions are crucial for understanding the water cycles in cold regions under climate change. However, seasonal changes in lake area in permafrost regions are not available, and their occurrence conditions are still unclear. Based on remotely sensed water body products at a 30 m resolution, this study provides a detailed comparison of lake area changes across seven basins characterized by clear gradients in climatic, topographic and permafrost conditions in the Arctic and Tibetan Plateau between 1987 and 2017. The results show that the maximum surface area of all lakes net increased by 13.45 %. Among them, the seasonal lake area net increased by 28.66 %, but there was also a 2.48 % loss. The permanent lake area net increased by 6.39 %, and the area loss was approximately 3.22 %. The total permanent lake area generally decreased in the Arctic but increased in the Tibetan Plateau. At lake region scale (0.1° grid), the changes in permanent area of contained lakes were divided into four types including no change, homogeneous changes (only expansion or only shrinkage), heterogeneous changes (expansion neighboring shrinkage) and abrupt changes (newforming or vanishing). The lake regions with heterogeneous changes accounted for over one-quarter of all lake regions. All types of changes in lake regions, especially the heterogeneous changes and abrupt changes (e.g., vanishing), occurred more extensively and intensely on low and flat terrain, in high-density lake regions and in warm permafrost regions. Radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis (RIPF), one type of pulmonary interstitial diseases, is frequently observed following radiation therapy for chest cancer or accidental radiation exposure. Current treatments against RIPF frequently fail to target lung effectively and the inhalation therapy is hard to penetrate airway mucus. Therefore, this study synthesized mannosylated polydopamine nanoparticles (MPDA NPs) through one-pot method to treat RIPF. Mannose was devised to target M2 macrophages in the lung through CD 206 receptor. MPDA NPs showed higher efficiency of penetrating mucus, cellular uptake and ROS-scavenging than original polydopamine nanoparticles (PDA NPs) in vitro. In RIPF mice, aerosol administration of MPDA NPs significantly alleviated the inflammatory, collagen deposition and fibrosis. The western blot analysis demonstrated that MPDA NPs inhibited TGF-β1/Smad3 signaling pathway against pulmonary fibrosis. Recent rapid warming has caused uneven impacts on the composition, structure, and functioning of northern ecosystems. It remains unknown how climatic drivers control linear and non-linear trends in ecosystem productivity. Based on a plant phenology index (PPI) product at a spatial resolution of 0.05° over 2000-2018, we used an automated polynomial fitting scheme to detect and characterize trend types (i.e., polynomial trends and no-trends) in the yearly-integrated PPI (PPI INT ) for northern (> 30°N) ecosystems and their dependence on climatic drivers and ecosystem types. The averaged slope for the linear trends (p < 0.05) of PPI INT was positive across all the ecosystems, among which deciduous broadleaved forests and evergreen needle-leaved forests (ENF) showed the highest and lowest mean slopes, respectively. More than 50% of the pixels in ENF, arctic and boreal shrublands, and permanent wetlands (PW) had linear trends. A large fraction of PW also showed quadratic and cubic trends. These trend patterns agreed well with estimates of global vegetation productivity based on solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence. Across all the biomes, PPI INT in pixels with linear trends showed lower mean values and higher partial correlation coefficients with temperature or precipitation than in pixels without linear trends. Overall, our study revealed the emergence of latitudinal convergence and divergence in climatic controls on the linear and non-linear trends of PPI INT , implying that northern shifts of vegetation and climate change may potentially increase the non-linear nature of climatic controls on ecosystem productivity. The kidney is the main organ affected by acute depleted uranium (DU) toxicity. The mechanism of nephrotoxicity induced by DU is complex and needs to be further explored. This study aimed to elucidate the function of mitochondrial dysfunction in nephrotoxicity generated by DU and confirm the latent mechanism. We verified that DU (2.5-10 mg/kg) caused mitochondrial dysfunction in male rat kidneys and decreased ATP content and the mitochondrial membrane potential. In addition, melatonin (20 mg/kg), as an antioxidant, alleviated DU-induced oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction in male rats, further reducing kidney damage caused by DU. These results indicate that mitochondrial dysfunction plays a vital role in DU nephrotoxicity. When ethylmalonic encephalopathy 1 (ETHE1) was knocked down, DU-induced oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction were increased, and renal injury was aggravated. When exogenous ETHE1 protein was applied to renal cells, the opposite changes were observed. We also found that ETHE1 knockdown increased the expression of NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), a vital oxidative stress regulator, and its downstream molecules heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and NADPH quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1). Nrf2 knockout also aggravated DU-induced oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and kidney damage. Introduction: Musculoskeletal injuries dominate warfare-related trauma and differ from civilian settings in higher hospitalization costs, morbidity, and mortality. Partly due to introduction of personal protective equipment in the Israel Defence Force (IDF) to minimize head and torso injuries while the extremities remained unprotected. This study describes military extremity injury patterns, prehospital treatment and injury sequela regarding return-to-duty and disability compensation., Methods: This retrospective study examined cases of battle and non-battle trauma casualties treated by the IDF Medical Corps from 2013 to 2020. Data from the IDF Trauma Registry (IDF-TR) was merged with The Israeli National Trauma Registry (INTR). Cases with high morbidity discharged from military service were compared with lower morbidity patients who returned to active duty service., Results: Out of 1360 injured soldiers, 280 (20.6%) were found to have isolated limb fractures (ILFs). High morbidity casualties had more open fractures (63% vs. 42%) and higher involvement of lower extremities (79% vs. 58%) (p < 0.001), higher rates of tourniquets use (28% compared to 9%, p < 0.001), external fixation (34% vs. 19%, p < 0.001) and amputations (9% vs. 1%, p = 0.003), required more rehabilitation (34% vs. 7%, p < 0.001), and had 46% medical disabilities compared to 24% with low morbidity (p < 0.001)., Conclusions: ILFs are associated with significant morbidity and disability. High morbidity is associated with high energy, scar-producing, lower-extremity open fractured limbs treated by tourniquets. Low activity of photocatalysts is a serious bottleneck to the practical application of photocatalytic technology. In this paper, a series of BiOCl composite photocatalysts containing carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were successfully prepared by adding Panax notoginseng powder (PNP) to the solvothermal synthesis system of BiOCl as a template agent and a raw material for 0D CQDs. CQDs/BiOCl exhibit 2D flake structures and 3D flower-like microspheres self-assembled from thin flakes, holding rich oxygen vacancies (OVs). After detailed characterization, it was found that the amount of OVs on BiOCl could be regulated according to the amount of PNP added. The CQDs/OVs-BiOCl photocatalysts exhibit higher photogenerated charge separation efficiency and photocatalytic activity than the bare BiOCl. When the mass ratio of PNP/BiOCl is 1.0%, the photocatalyst demonstrates the maximum degradation activity for rhodamine B (RhB) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). As the vital component of innate immune system, the NLRP3 inflammasome is implicated in the onset and progression of a variety of inflammatory diseases and has emerged as an attractive drug target. Herein a series of novel phenyl vinyl sulfone based NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitors were designed, synthesized and biologically characterized. The most potent two hits 7a and 5b showed inhibition on the NLRP3 inflammasome with the IC 50 of 1.83 ± 0.28 µM and 0.91 ± 0.06 µM, respectively. Further characterization confirmed their inhibition of NLRP3-mediated IL-1β release in vivo. C-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) is a member of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) family, with three isoforms, JNK1, JNK2 and JNK3. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurological disorder and the most common type of dementia. Two well-established AD pathologies are the deposition of Aβ amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles caused by Tau hyperphosphorylation. JNK3 is involved in forming amyloid Aβ and neurofibrillary tangles, suggesting that JNK3 may represent a target to develop treatments for AD. Understanding community assembly is a key issue in recognizing community succession and guiding the restoration of degraded ecosystems. Based on the stress-dominance hypothesis (SDH), along a gradient of increasing environmental stress, the relative importance of environmental filtering is supposed to be dominant but species interaction could be a minor process in assembling communities. However, this hypothesized model of the assembly-rule shift was equivocally supported by various studies. In this study, by examining riparian plant communities with the zonation distribution of species composition along a markedly contrast flooding-stress gradient, a general aim was to clarify whether assembly rules of the communities would be also sorted into the zonation pattern as expected by the SDH. Another aim was to identify how edaphic factors associate with the assembly processes. Firstly, we found that even under the distinct stress gradient, community assembly was not stratified into different rules as the SDH expected, but environmental filtering appeared as a dominant assembly process across the stress gradient. Secondly, although filtering holds as a dominant assembly rule, environmental filters were found different along the gradient. By disentangling the filters of edaphic attributes, we found that the filters significantly shifted from soil physical properties to chemical nutrients governing the filtering process along the gradient. This result revealed that, across the contrast gradient, the environmental deterministic process on assembly is so strong that the other assembly processes became weaker. By synthesizing our results, the SDH may not be applied even under the context of a contrast stress gradient, which suggests that environmental context may be a key in testing and applying the SDH. The natural polysaccharide/hydroxyapatite hydrogels are of great interest to bone tissue engineering, but the interfacial mismatch between rigid hydroxyapatite and soft polysaccharide phase in these hydrogels remains unsolved, which is unfavorable to achieving uniform dispersion of hydroxyapatite particles in the hydrogel matrices. Herein, hyaluronic acid (Hya), an extracellular matrix constituent, was chosen as the template for biological mineralization to synthesize Hya/hydroxyapatite hybrid particles (HAHs). The oxidized Hya/hydroxyapatite hybrid particles (OHAHs) were obtained by oxidating the Hya in the HAHs. These OHAHs were the ball-flower particles hybridized with ca. 22 % oxidized Hya. Then, different concentrations of OHAHs were introduced to prepare hydroxyapatite composite hydrogels (HCH) via Schiff-base reaction of oxidized Hya and carboxymethyl chitosan. The injectability and self-healing of HCH were evaluated and the introduction of OHAHs significantly increased the storage modulus. The gelation time of HCH showed a negative relation with the concentration of OHAHs while the storage modulus presented a positive correlation. MTT assays and live/dead staining of L929 cells co-cultured with HCH confirmed that the hydrogels had excellent cytocompatibility, and supported the adhesion and proliferation of cells under the three-dimension culture conditions. Bioenergy is a promising solution for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions mitigation. However, the emissions resulting from the different production stages must be quantified and evaluated. The life cycle assessment (LCA) method was used to compare and quantify the environmental burdens of three rice straw (RS) utilization scenarios for producing biogas, briquette fuel, and syngas. To our knowledge, this is the first study that applies the LCA approach to assess these three bioenergy scenarios in a single study where the main goal was to determine the most sustainable option. A total of 10 mid-point impact categories were investigated. The results indicated that the three scenarios achieved net positive energy and net negative GHG balances. The briquette fuel scenarios had the highest net energy balance (11,115 MJ/tonne dry RS), while the syngas scenario had the highest net GHG (-2,315 kg CO 2 -eq./tonne dry RS). Moreover, the syngas scenario was the most beneficial to the environment, achieving negative results in 9 out of the 10 impact categories; the largest was marine ecotoxicity (-853,897 kg 1,4-DB-eq./tonne dry RS). The biogas scenario achieved emission savings in 3 out of the 10 categories. Although the briquette fuel scenario had no negative values in the 10 categories, its overall contribution to environmental burdens was relatively low. The transcriptome describes the expression of all genes in a sample. Most studies have investigated the differential patterns or discrimination powers of transcript expression levels. In this study, we hypothesized that the quantitative correlations between the expression levels of transcription factors (TFs) and their regulated target genes (mRNAs) serve as a novel view of healthy status, and a disease sample exhibits a differential landscape (mqTrans) of transcription regulations compared with healthy status. We formulated quantitative transcription regulation relationships of metabolism-related genes as a multi-input multi-output regression model via a gated recurrent unit (GRU) network. The GRU model was trained using healthy blood transcriptomes and the expression levels of mRNAs were predicted by those of the TFs. The mqTrans feature of a gene was defined as the difference between its predicted and actual expression levels. A pan-cancer investigation of the differentially expressed mqTrans features was conducted between the early- and late-stage cancers in 26 cancer types of The Cancer Genome Atlas database. This study focused on the differentially expressed mqTrans features, that did not show differential expression in the actual expression levels. These genes could not be detected by conventional differential analysis. Such dark biomarkers are worthy of further wet-lab investigation. The experimental data also showed that the proposed mqTrans investigation improved the classification between early- and late-stage samples for some cancer types. Cadmium (Cd) is an environmental pollutant and endocrine disrupter, abundantly present in water, food, and soil. Accumulation of Cd in the body can negatively affect female reproduction; especially the uterus is exceptionally sensitive to the toxic actions of Cd. The anthocyanin cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (C3G) is a naturally occurring phenolic compound in fruits and plants that can antagonize the toxic effects of Cd. This capacity makes C3G a possible candidate to prevent Cd-induced female infertility. The present study aimed to investigate: 1) whether C3G intake could prevent Cd-induced female reproductive toxicity, and 2) the underlying mechanisms responsible for this protective effect. The results of our study indicated that Cd exposure did not affect ovarian function, but induced hypertrophy of the uterine endometrium. Oral intake of C3G markedly reduced the effects of Cd exposure on the thickness of the uterine epithelium cells. Transcriptomic analysis of the endometrium revealed that C3G intake had anti-estrogenic effects, attenuating Cd-induced endometrial epithelial cell proliferation by inhibiting estrogen-responsive genes, enhancing epithelial progesterone receptor expression, and regulating Klf4 expression. Hydropower dam constructions and operations have dramatically changed the original hydrological regime of natural rivers. Because of significantly slashed and suspended sediments blocked by damming, discharged "clear" water was found to play a strong undercutting effect on the riverbank and to exacerbate riparian soil erosion on the downstream near dams. Yet, it is still an unsettled issue whether the instability of riparian soil structure would be simply correlated negatively with the distance to a dam. In this study, soils along the downstream riparian zone of a huge dam on the River Yangtze, China, were sampled to examine the distance effect on the riparian soil structural stability. Water-stable aggregates were fractionated by the wet-sieving method. Mean weight diameter (MWD) and geometric mean diameter (GMD) were used to indicate riparian soil stability. Further, the fractal dimension (D) and soil erodibility parameter (K) were used to represent the likelihood of riparian erosion. Our results revealed that riparian soil structural stability demonstrated a high spatial heterogeneity along the River Yangtze, and was less affected by the spatial distance to the dam. Rather, the soil stability was primarily influenced by a river shape index (sinuosity) and local edaphic properties. The river sinuosity index demonstrated a positive relationship with soil structural stability. Additionally, soil organic matter was found as a major edaphic factor in stabilizing soil structure. The results indicated that river sinuosity plays a crucial role in stabilizing soil by accumulating soil organic matters. Our findings implied that the potential negative impact of damming effect on soil stability may be attenuated by maintaining a higher sinuosity of the river. Recently, the collagen-keratin (CK) composites have received much attention for the purpose of biomedical applications due to the intrinsic biocompatibility and biodegradability of these two proteins. However, few studies have reported the CK composites developed by the self-assembly approach and the influence of the keratin on the collagen self-assembly in vitro was still unknown. In this study, the keratin nanoparticles (KNPs) were successfully prepared by the reduction method, and we focused on investigating the effect of the varying concentrations of KNPs on the mechanism of the fibrillogenesis process of collagen. The intermolecular interaction between the two proteins revealed by the ultraviolet spectroscopy, Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and circular dichromatic (CD) spectroscopy showed that KNPs would interact with the collagen, and keratin significantly influenced the hydrogen bonding interaction existed in collagen molecules. The SEM images exhibited the formation of exquisite fibrillar networks after incorporating the KNPs into collagen, and it was conspicuous that the KNPs could uniformly distribute on the surface of collagen fibrils via electrostatic interaction, for both of the two proteins possessed many charged moieties. In addition, the AFM images confirmed the presence of the characteristic D-periodicity of collagen fibrils, indicating that the introduction of KNPs did not disrupt the self-assembly nature of the native collagen. The cell adhesion, proliferation and migration experiments on the CK fibrils were also performed in this study. Aims: Gastric cancer stem cells (GCSCs) have been used as a therapeutic target. This study aims to estimate the role of miR-98-5p (termed miR-98) in the development of GCSCs., Main Methods: The expression of miR-98 in CD44 + GCSCs was verified by RT-PCR. The miR-98 was overexpressed in CD44 + GCSCs by Lentivirus. The ability of self-renewal, invasion, chemoresistance and tumorigenicity was detected in vitro or in vivo after overexpression of miR-98. The target genes of miR-98 were predicted and verified by luciferase reporter assays. The effects miR-98/BCAT1 signaling on the chemoresistance and tumorigenicity of CD44 + GCSCs were investigated in a xenograft model by rescue experiments., Key Findings: We have shown that miR-98 was decreased in CD44 + GCSCs. The overexpression of miR-98 could inhibit the expression of stem-related genes and the ability of self-renewal, invasion, and tumorigenicity of GCSCs. Also, we found that miR-98 overexpression enhances the sensitivity to cisplatin treatment in vitro. Using a xenograft model, we showed that miR-98 overexpression reversed paclitaxel resistance to CD44 + GCSCs. Finally, we found that branched-chain aminotransferases 1 (BCAT1) is a target gene of miR-98. Overexpressed BCAT1 reversed xenograft tumor formation ability and attenuated the paclitaxel chemosensitivity induced by miR-98 downregulation. Furthermore, BCAT1 restoration affected the expression of invasion and drug resistance-related genes., Significance: This study revealed miR-98 inhibits gastric cancer cell stemness and chemoresistance by targeting BCAT1, suggesting that this miR-98/BCAT1 axis represents a potential therapeutic target in gastric cancer., (Copyright © 2021 The Authors. Activated, oxidized, and solvent-extracted black carbon samples (BCs) were produced from a shale kerogen at temperatures ranging from 250 to 500 °C by chemical activation regents (KOH, ZnCl 2 ), oxidative regents (H 2 O 2 , NaClO), and organic solvents, respectively. Extracted organic matter (EOM) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were quantified in BCs, and they increased and then decreased with increasing temperature. Sorption and desorption isotherms of nonylphenol (NP) on BCs were compared with those previously reported for phenanthrene (Phen). The desorption hysteresis coefficients of NP were greater than those of Phen, while the adsorption capacities of NP were different from those of Phen. The micropore volume and micropore size were critical factors for the micropore filling mechanism of NP in BCs. The ZnCl 2 activation and oxidation treatments were observed to effectively enhance the adsorption of NP and to remove native PAHs from the investigated BCs. But the KOH activation and oxidation treatments were not as efficient as expected. Moreover, the NP desorption hysteresis suggested that a hydrogen bonding and micropore deformation mechanism occurred on the extracted activated BCs. Depleted uranium (DU) is widely used in civil and military activities. The testis is one of the target organs of DU chronic toxicity. In this study, male SD rats were chronically exposed to DU by 3, 30, 300 mg U/kg through oral intake. After 6 months and 12 months of exposure, it was found that DU could lead to increased oxidative stress levels, decreased glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) expression, resulting in testicular injury and decreased serum testosterone (T) level in rats. Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A2/B1 (hnRNP A2/B1) expression increases with the increase of DU exposure dose. After upregulation of hnRNP A2/B1 expression, the GC-1 cell injury caused by DU is aggravated, suggesting that hnRNP A2/B1 may play an important role in the reproductive toxicity of DU. At the same time, 12 months after chronic oral exposure to DU, the expression level of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and proinflammatory factor prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in testicular tissue were increased, and the level of hnRNP A2/B1 caused by DU was decreased by reactive oxygen scavenger N-acetylcysteine (NAC). As hnRNP A2/B1 is a COX-2 regulator, DU may lead to the upregulation of hnRNP A2/B1 expression through the increase of oxidative stress level in germ cells, which in turn leads to the increase of COX-2 and PGE2 level, and ultimately result in the reproductive toxicity.
