Abstract: It is unclear whether risk of infection is increased in individuals with hereditary hemochromatosis and in individuals with low or high plasma iron, transferrin saturation, or ferritin. Therefore, we tested whether high and low iron, transferrin saturation, and ferritin are associated with risk of infections observationally and genetically through HFE genotypes. We studied 142 188 Danish general population individuals. Iron, transferrin saturation, and ferritin were measured in 136 656, 136 599, and 38 020 individuals, respectively. HFE was genotyped for C282Y and H63D in 132 542 individuals. Median follow-up after study enrollment was 8 years (range, 0-38) for hospital and emergency room admissions with infections (n = 20 394) using the National Patient Register, covering all Danish hospitals. Hazard ratios for any infection were 1.20 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.12-1.28) and 1.14 (95% CI, 1.07-1.22) in individuals with plasma iron ≤5th or ≥95th percentile compared with individuals with iron from 26th to 74th percentiles. Findings for transferrin saturation were similar, whereas infection risk was not increased in individuals with ferritin ≤5th or ≥95th percentile. Hazard ratios in C282Y homozygotes vs noncarriers were 1.40 (95% CI, 1.16-1.68) for any infection, 1.69 (95% CI, 1.05-2.73) for sepsis, and 2.34 (95% CI, 1.41-3.90) for death from infectious disease. Risk of infection was increased in C282Y homozygotes with normal plasma iron, transferrin saturation, or ferritin, and in C282Y homozygotes without liver disease, diabetes, and/or heart failure. In summary, low and high plasma iron and transferrin saturation were independently associated with increased infection risk. C282Y homozygotes had increased risk of any infection, sepsis, and death from infections. Background: Risk of exacerbations in individuals with mild chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the general population is less well described than in more advanced disease. We hypothesized that in addition to history of previous exacerbation also other clinical characteristics predict future moderate exacerbations., Methods: In 96,462 individuals in the Copenhagen General Population Study, we identified 3175 with clinical COPD defined as forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV 1 )/forced vital capacity (FVC) < 0.70 and FEV 1 <80% predicted in symptomatic individuals without asthma. We estimated the importance of age, sex, FEV 1 , modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) dyspnea scale, chronic bronchitis, exacerbation history, comorbidities, cohabitation, body mass index, smoking, and blood eosinophils for the 1-year and 3-year future risk of moderate COPD exacerbations and developed a prediction tool for future exacerbations in COPD in the general population based on easily available clinical information., Results: We observed 265 exacerbations in 2543 maintenance treatment naïve individuals with COPD and 197 exacerbations in 632 individuals with COPD on maintenance treatment. In the maintenance treatment naïve group, exacerbation history (hazard ratio (HR): 8.53), low FEV 1 (HR: 4.82 for <30% predicted versus 50-79% predicted), and higher age (HR: 1.46 for ≥75 years versus <65 years) were significant predictors of future exacerbations. Background and Aims: High caloric diets rich in fat and carbohydrates lead to increased fat accumulation in adipose tissue and blood. This may lead to increased risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. We hypothesized that baseline high nonfasting plasma triglycerides, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference, individually and combined, associate with increased risk of clinically diagnosed non-alcoholic fatty liver disease during follow-up., Methods: Cohort of 105,981 white Danish individuals recruited in 2003-2015 with end of follow-up on December 13th, 2018. Mean follow-up was 9.2 years during which time 418 were clinically diagnosed at hospitals with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease., Results: Risk of clinically diagnosed non-alcoholic fatty liver disease increased with higher plasma triglycerides, higher BMI, and with higher waist circumference, continuously and stepwise using multivariable adjusted hazard ratios and cumulative incidences. Combining clinical categories of plasma triglycerides with BMI or waist circumference categories, illustrated an almost additive risk with increasing categories. Compared with plasma triglycerides of <1 mmol/L and BMI <25 kg/m 2 , the multivariable adjusted hazard ratio was 5.2(95% confidence interval: 1.3-21.6) for individuals with both plasma triglycerides of ≥5 mmol/L and BMI ≥35 kg/m 2 . The corresponding hazard ratio for individuals with plasma triglycerides ≥5 mmol/L and waist circumference was >88 cm for women and >102 cm for men was 4.8(2.3-9.7). Background and Aims: It is unclear to what extent genetic testing improves the ability to diagnose familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH). We investigated the percentage with FH among individuals referred to Danish lipid clinics, and evaluated the impact of genetic testing for a diagnosis of FH., Methods: From September 2020 through November 2021, all patients referred for possible FH to one of the 15 Danish lipid clinics were invited for study participation and >97% (n = 1488) accepted. The Dutch Lipid Clinical Network criteria were used to diagnose clinical FH. The decision of genetic testing for FH was based on local practice., Results: A total of 1243 individuals were referred, of whom 25.9% were diagnosed with genetic and/or clinical FH. In individuals genetically tested (n = 705), 21.7% had probable or definite clinical FH before testing, a percentage that increased to 36.9% after genetic testing. In individuals with unlikely and possible FH before genetic testing, 24.4% and 19.0%, respectively, had a causative pathogenic variant., Conclusions: In a Danish nationwide study, genetic testing increased a diagnosis of FH from 22% to 37% in patients referred with hypercholesterolaemia suspected of having FH. Importantly, approximately 20% with unlikely or possible FH, who without genetic testing would not have been considered having FH (and family screening would not have been undertaken), had a pathogenic FH variant. Background and Aims: High levels of lipoprotein(a) could worsen the outcome of COVID-19 due to prothrombotic and proinflammatory properties of lipoprotein(a). We tested the hypotheses that during COVID-19 hospitalization i) increased thrombotic activity and inflammation are associated with lipoprotein(a) levels, and ii) lipoprotein(a) levels are associated with rate of hospital death and discharge., Methods: We studied 211 patients admitted to Copenhagen University Hospital in 2020 with COVID-19, that is, prior to any vaccination. Thrombotic activity was marked by elevated D-dimer while inflammation was marked by elevated interleukin-6, C-reactive protein, and procalcitonin. Patients were followed until death (N = 36) or discharge (N = 175)., Results: A 2-fold higher D-dimer was associated with 14% (95%CI: 8.1-20%) higher lipoprotein(a). Conversely, 2-fold higher interleukin-6, C-reactive protein, and procalcitonin were associated with respectively 4.3% (0.62-7.8%), 5.7% (0.15-5.2%), and 8.7% (5.2-12%) lower lipoprotein(a). For hospital death, the multivariable adjusted hazard ratio per 2-fold higher lipoprotein(a) was 1.26 (95%CI:0.91-1.73). Corresponding hazard ratios per 2-fold higher biomarker were 0.93 (0.75-1.16) for D-dimer, 1.42 (1.17-1.73) for interleukin-6, 1.44 (0.95-2.17) for C-reactive protein, and 1.44 (1.20-1.73) for procalcitonin. For hospital discharge, the multivariable adjusted hazard ratio per 2-fold higher lipoprotein(a) was 0.91 (95%CI:0.79-1.06). Background and Aims: Lipoprotein(a) is a well-known causal risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Little is known about the effect of age and sex on lipoprotein(a) levels, and it is largely unknown if the same elevation in lipoprotein(a) confers the same increase in risk in women and men. We investigated whether lipoprotein(a) levels and lipoprotein(a) associated risks of morbidity and mortality by age are similar in women and men., Methods: We included 37,545 women and 32,497 men from the Copenhagen General Population Study., Results: Plasma lipoprotein(a) increased with age, and in women we found an additional increase around age 50 (age by sex interaction p = 8∙10 -7 ). In women, levels were 27% higher after menopause (p = 4∙10 -61 ) and 12% lower during hormone replacement therapy (p = 2∙10 -19 ). Adjustment for estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate in both sexes and plasma estradiol in women resulted in attenuated sex differences in lipoprotein(a) levels. In sex and age stratified multivariable adjusted models, lipoprotein(a) >40 mg/dL(83 nmol/L) versus <10 mg/dL(18 nmol/L) was associated with increased risk of myocardial infarction, ischemic heart disease, aortic valve stenosis, and heart failure (men only), but not statistically significant with risk of ischemic stroke, cardiovascular mortality, or all-cause mortality., Conclusions: Lipoprotein(a) levels increased modestly around age 50 selectively in women; however, risk of morbidity and mortality for high lipoprotein(a) was similar in women and men above age 50. Background: Whether risk of exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is influenced by severity of symptoms and maintenance treatment is unclear., Objective: We hypothesized that in addition to history of exacerbations of COPD, the severity of dyspnoea and use of maintenance medications are associated with risk of future exacerbations., Methods: We included 96,462 adults from the Copenhagen General Population Study and assessed risk of moderate and severe exacerbations from 2003 to 2013 according to exacerbation history, dyspnoea score (mMRC), and presence/absence of maintenance treatment with inhaled long-acting bronchodilators and/or inhaled corticosteroids., Findings: Among 13,380 individuals with COPD, we observed 1543 moderate and 348 severe exacerbations. In treatment naïve individuals and in those on maintenance treatment, history of previous exacerbations and to a smaller degree also dyspnoea were associated with a higher risk of future exacerbations; 32% of the treatment naïve individuals with mMRC≥2 and a single moderate exacerbation in the previous year experienced a moderate exacerbation during the following year compared with only 3% in the individuals with similar severity of dyspnoea but no exacerbations in the previous year yielding an adjusted hazard ratio of 6.26 (95% confidence interval, 3.70-10.58)., Interpretation: This observational study of the general population suggests that in addition to exacerbation history also the severity of dyspnoea predicts the risk of future COPD exacerbations. Background and Aims: Guideline-recommended use of risk calculators to select for statin therapy in primary prevention has never been tested in a randomized controlled trial (RCT). We determined the extent to which guideline-based statin recommendations from the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA), Canadian Cardiovascular Society(CCS), UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), and European Society of Cardiology/European Atherosclerosis Society (ESC/EAS) is supported by available evidence from RCTs., Methods: 79,171 individuals from the Copenhagen General Population Study who were free of ASCVD and statin use at baseline were included. RCT evidence supporting guideline-recommended statin allocation and the estimated number needed to treat (NNT) to prevent one ASCVD event were assessed., Results: During 8.2 years of follow-up, 4031 ASCVD events occurred. Of individuals eligible for statin therapy with the ACC/AHA, CCS, NICE and ESC/EAS guidelines, 86%, 88%, 88% and 84% had direct RCT evidence of statin efficacy, respectively (guideline-positive&RCT-positive). This group represented 26-37% of all 79,171 individuals, while guideline-positive&RCT-negative individuals represented 5-7%, guideline-negative&RCT-positive individuals 28-39%, and guideline-negative&RCT-negative individuals represented 30-31%. The ASCVD events per 1000 person-years were 11.4-12.7 (guideline-positive&RCT-positive), 6.3-8.0 (guideline-positive&RCT-negative), 4.2-5.2 (guideline-negative&RCT-positive), and 2.3-2.5 (guideline-negative&RCT-negative), respectively, while the corresponding NNT to prevent one event in 10 years using high-intensity statin were 19-21, 30-32, 48-60, and 105-125, respectively., Conclusions: The far majority of individuals eligible for guideline-recommended primary prevention with statins have direct RCT evidence supporting statin use. Allocating statins based on guideline-criteria is more efficient with lower NNT for preventing ASCVD events than allocating statin therapy based solely on RCT evidence., (Copyright © 2021 The Authors. Background: Asthma and COPD diagnoses are used to classify chronic airway diseases; however, both diseases are related to phenotypic traits like allergy, obesity, cough, sputum production, low-grade inflammation, smoking, elevated blood eosinophil count, comorbidities, and occupational exposures. Whether such traits can replace asthma and COPD diagnoses when assessing risk of exacerbation is unclear. We tested the hypothesis that individuals with either asthma or COPD diagnoses have similar risk of moderate and severe exacerbations when adjusted for differences in phenotypic traits., Methods: From the Copenhagen General Population Study, a cohort study of the general population, we included 7190 individuals with chronic airway disease. Phenotypic traits were recorded at baseline and risk of exacerbations was assessed during follow-up from 2003 to 2013., Results: The incidence rate ratio (IRR) of moderate exacerbations in individuals with clinical COPD was 1.61 (95% Confidence Interval, 1.27-2.02) compared to individuals with asthma in a model only adjusted for age, sex, and education, but after the inclusion of phenotypic traits IRR was 1.05 (0.82-1.35). Corresponding IRRs of severe exacerbations in individuals with clinical COPD versus asthma were 3.82 (2.73-5.35) and 2.28 (1.63-3.20), respectively., Conclusions: When taking phenotypic traits into account, individuals with asthma and COPD had comparable risk of moderate exacerbations; however, corresponding risk of severe exacerbations was higher in individuals with COPD than in those with asthma., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Background: Findings of historical studies suggest that elevated LDL cholesterol is not associated with increased risk of myocardial infarction and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in patients older than 70 years. We aimed to test this hypothesis in a contemporary population of individuals aged 70-100 years., Methods: We included in our analysis individuals (aged 20-100 years) from the Copenhagen General Population Study (CGPS) who did not have atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease or diabetes at baseline and who were not taking statins. Standard hospital assays were used to measure LDL cholesterol. We calculated hazard ratios (HRs) and absolute event rates for myocardial infarction and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, and we estimated the number needed to treat (NNT) in 5 years to prevent one event., Findings: Between Nov 25, 2003, and Feb 17, 2015, 91 131 individuals were enrolled in CGPS. During mean 7·7 (SD 3·2) years of follow-up (to Dec 7, 2018), 1515 individuals had a first myocardial infarction and 3389 had atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Risk of myocardial infarction per 1·0 mmol/L increase in LDL cholesterol was augmented for the overall population (HR 1·34, 95% CI 1·27-1·41) and was amplified for all age groups, particularly those aged 70-100 years. Risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease was also raised per 1·0 mmol/L increase in LDL cholesterol overall (HR 1·16, 95% CI 1·12-1·21) and in all age groups, particularly those aged 70-100 years. Risk of myocardial infarction was also increased with a 5·0 mmol/L or higher LDL cholesterol (ie, possible familial hypercholesterolaemia) versus less than 3·0 mmol/L in individuals aged 80-100 years (HR 2·99, 95% CI 1·71-5·23) and in those aged 70-79 years (1·82, 1·20-2·77). Myocardial infarction and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease events per 1000 person-years for every 1·0 mmol/L increase in LDL cholesterol were highest in individuals aged 70-100 years, with number of events lower with younger age. The NNT in 5 years to prevent one myocardial infarction or atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease event if all people were given a moderate-intensity statin was lowest for individuals aged 70-100 years, with the NNT increasing with younger age., Interpretation: In a contemporary primary prevention cohort, people aged 70-100 years with elevated LDL cholesterol had the highest absolute risk of myocardial infarction and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and the lowest estimated NNT in 5 years to prevent one event. Background: The objective of this study was to determine normal values for coronary artery volume (CAV) and individual vasculature and segment dimensions., Methods: We examined 200 healthy volunteers with an Agatston score of 0 and a normal, high quality coronary CTA. Using 320 slice multidetector row CT and designated vessel tracing software with border detection algorithm, the main coronary arteries and branches were delineated and total and segmental dimensions calculated., Results: 2931 segments (98.9%) could be adequately delineated. Of the 173 subjects with adequate coronary delineations, 140 subjects (81%) received nitroglycerin (NTG) prior to the scan. CAV was 4.33 ml (95% CI: 2.27-6.39) in subjects with NTG and 2.55 ml (95% CI: 0.34-4.76) in subjects without NTG (p < 0.0001). Left ventricular mass (LVM) was strongly correlated with CAV (p < 0.0001) independently of body surface area and gender, whereas gender was not independently correlated with CAV. From right, balanced to left coronary dominance, the left anterior descending artery vasculature mean contribution to CAV increased slightly (37%, 40% and 43%, p = 0.002), and the mean contributions of right coronary artery (RCA) and left circumflex artery (LCX) vasculature was inversely related - from right, balanced to left 46%, 32% and 16% for RCA (p < 0.0001); and 16%, 27% and 38% for LCX (p < 0.0001)., Conclusion: Normal values for coronary artery volume as assessed by coronary CTA are reported. They strongly correlate with NTG administration and left ventricular mass. Background: Elevated levels of plasma C-reactive protein (CRP) have been associated with many diseases including depression, but it remains unclear whether this association is causal. We tested the hypothesis that CRP is causally associated with depression, and compared these results to those for cancer, ischemic heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and all-cause mortality., Methods: We performed prospective and instrumental variable analyses using plasma CRP levels and four CRP genotypes on 78,809 randomly selected 20- to 100-year-old men and women from the Danish general population. End points included hospitalization or death with depression and somatic diseases, prescription antidepressant medication use, and all-cause mortality., Results: A doubling in plasma CRP yielded an observed odds ratio (OR) of 1.28 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.23-1.33) for hospitalization or death with depression, whereas for genetically elevated CRP, the causal OR was .79 (95% CI: .51-1.22; observed vs. causal estimate, p = .03). For prescription antidepressant medication use, corresponding ORs were 1.12 (1.11-1.15) and .98 (.83-1.15; p = .08). These results were similar to those for risk of cancer (p = .002), ischemic heart disease (p = 4 × 10(-99)), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (p = 6 × 10(-86)), and all-cause mortality (p = .001) examined in the same individuals., Conclusions: Elevated CRP was associated with increased risk of depression in individuals in the general population, but genetically elevated CRP was not. Background: CYP2C9 enzymes are important in the metabolism of procarcinogenic chemicals such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) found in tobacco smoke. Two functional variants in the CYP2C9 gene (CYP2C9*2 and CYP2C9*3) are known to be associated with decreased enzyme activity towards tolbutamide and warfarin, while this has not been investigated for PAHs. We hypothesised that these two variants in the CYP2C9 gene influence risk of tobacco-related cancer., Methods: In a prospective study of the general population (n=10 392) with 60 years of follow-up, the Copenhagen City Heart Study, we associated two variants of CYP2C9 (CYP2C9*2 and CYP2C9*3) with risk of tobacco-related cancer and all cancer. All results were re-tested in a cross-sectional study of the general population (n=36 856), the Copenhagen General Population Study., Results: We found no association between any of the CYP2C9 genotypes and risk of tobacco-related cancer, individual tobacco-related cancers, or all cancer. For the combined carriers (any CYP2C9*2 or CYP2C9*3 heterozygotes or homozygotes) vs. non-carriers we had 90% statistical power to exclude measures of relative risks below/above 0.8/1.2 and 0.9/1.1 in the Copenhagen City Heart Study and below/above 0.8/1.3 and 0.9/1.1 in the Copenhagen General Population Study for tobacco-related cancer and all cancer, respectively., Conclusion: Genetic variations in CYP2C9 do not affect risk of tobacco-related cancers.

Background: While increased plasma cholesterol is a well-established cardiovascular risk factor in the general population, this is not so among patients with chronic renal disease. We hypothesized that the transvascular lipoprotein transport, in addition to the lipoprotein concentration in plasma, determines the degree of atherosclerosis among patients with chronic renal disease., Methods: We used an in vivo method for measurement of transvascular transport of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in 21 patients with chronic renal disease and in 42 healthy control patients. Autologous 131-iodinated LDL was reinjected intravenously, and the 1-hour fractional escape rate was taken as index of transvascular transport., Results: Transvascular LDL transport tended to be lower in patients with chronic renal disease than in healthy control patients [3.3 (95% CI 2.4-4.2) vs. 4.2 (3.7-4.2)%/hour; NS]. However, this tendency disappeared when transvascular LDL transport was corrected for distribution volume of LDL [1.7 (1.2-2.2) vs. 1.8 (1.6-2.0) %/(hour x (L/m(2))); NS]. There was significant variation in transvascular LDL transport between diabetic patients with chronic renal disease, nondiabetic patients with chronic renal disease, and healthy control patients [5.0 (3.2-7.8) vs. 3.0 (2.2-3.8) vs. 4.2 (3.6-4.8) %/hour; P < 0.01 after adjustment for distribution volume of LDL]. This variation was unlikely caused by altered hepatic LDL receptor expression or glycosylation of LDL in diabetes patients., Conclusion: Transvascular LDL transport may be increased in diabetic patients with chronic renal disease, suggesting that lipoprotein flux into the arterial wall is increased. A similar mechanism does not operate in nondiabetic patients with chronic renal disease.

The progression rate of iron overload in hereditary hemochromatosis in individuals in the general population is unknown. We therefore examined in the general population iron overload progression rate in C282Y homozygotes. Using a cohort study of the Danish general population, The Copenhagen City Heart Study, we genotyped 9174 individuals. The 23 C282Y homozygotes identified were matched to 2 subjects each of 5 other HFE genotypes with respect to sex, age, and alcohol consumption. As a function of biologic age, transferrin saturation increased from 50% to 70% from 25 to 85 years of age and from 70% to 80% from 35 to 80 years of age in female and male C282Y homozygotes, respectively. Equivalently, ferritin levels increased from 100 to 500 microg/L and decreased from 800 to 400 microg/L in female and male C282Y homozygotes. As a function of 25 years follow-up irrespective of age, transferrin saturation and ferritin levels increased slightly in male and female C282Y homozygotes. None of the C282Y homozygotes developed clinically overt hemochromatosis. In conclusion, individuals in the general population with C282Y homozygosity at most demonstrate modest increases in transferrin saturation and ferritin levels, and clinically overt hemochromatosis is rare. Therefore, C282Y homozygotes identified during population screening, and not because of clinically overt hemochromatosis, at most need to be screened for manifestations of hemochromatosis every 10 to 20 years.

Background: The increased risk of atherosclerosis associated with diabetes cannot be explained by conventional cardiovascular risk factors alone. We hypothesized that transvascular lipoprotein transport may be increased in patients with diabetes, possibly explaining increased intimal lipoprotein accumulation and thus atherosclerosis., Methods: We used an in vivo method for measurement of transvascular transport of low density lipoprotein (LDL) and applied it in 24 patients with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (type 1) and in 30 healthy controls. LDL was individually sampled and autologous 131-iodinated LDL was reinjected intravenously in addition to 125-iodinated albumin, and the 1-h fractional escape rates were taken as indices of transvascular transport., Results: Transvascular LDL transport was 5.7+/-2.2 and 4.0+/-1.8%/h in patients with diabetes and controls (P<0.005); equivalent values for albumin were 6.8+/-2.5 and 5.4+/-2.0%/h (P<0.05). This difference most likely was not caused by altered hepatic LDL receptor expression, glycosylation of LDL, small LDL size, nephropathy, statin use, or different plasma insulin levels in diabetes patients., Conclusion: Transvascular LDL transport may be increased in patients with type 1 diabetes. This suggests that lipoprotein flux into the arterial wall is increased in people with type 1 diabetes, possibly explaining accelerated development of atherosclerosis.

Factor V Leiden (FVL) is associated with venous thrombosis; however, an association between FVL and arterial thrombosis remains controversial. We investigated FVL as a risk factor for myocardial infarction (MI), ischemic stroke (IS), or non-MI ischemic heart disease (non-MI-IHD). The design was 3 case-control studies and 3 prospective studies with 21 years' follow-up. The setting was the general population in Copenhagen, Denmark. The participants for The Copenhagen City Heart Study were 20- to 95-year-old participants without cardiovascular disease (control population, n = 7907) or participants diagnosed with MI (n = 469), IS (n = 231), or non-MI-IHD (n = 365). In addition, 3 independent patient populations from Copenhagen University Hospital with MI (n = 493), IS (n = 231), or non-MI-IHD (n = 448) were included. We measured FVL genotype; major cardiovascular risk factors; and MI, IS, and non-MI-IHD incidence and prevalence. Prevalences of FVL heterozygotes and homozygotes in control subjects from the general population were 7.7% and 0.2%. Odds ratios and relative risks of MI in FVL carriers (heterozygotes + homozygotes) versus noncarriers were 1.24 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.91-1.69) and 0.83 (0.58-1.20) in case-control and prospective studies, respectively. Corresponding risks for IS were 0.92 (95% CI, 0.56-1.53) and 0.68 (0.45-1.04), and for non-MI-IHD 1.01 (95% CI, 0.71-1.44) and 0.97 (0.66-1.42). Findings from The Copenhagen City Heart Study suggest that FVL is not associated with MI, IS, or non-MI-IHD.
