الملخص: أهداف البحث: السكتة الدماغية هي أحد الأسباب الرئيسية للوفاة وضعف الوظيفة الجسدية. أصبحت عملية استئصال الخثرة داخل الأوعية الدموية الآن هي المعيار المعترف به لعلاج السكتة الدماغية الإقفارية الحادة في الدورة الدموية الأمامية مع انسداد الأوعية الدموية الكبيرة، وخاصة عندما تكون صور الدماغ المواتية واضحة في غضون 24 ساعة من ظهور الأعراض. تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى توضيح الخصائص والملامح السريرية ونتائج المرضى الذين خضعوا لاستئصال الخثرة داخل الأوعية الدموية للسكتة الدماغية الإقفارية الحادة. طريقة البحث: في تصميم مجموعة مستندة إلى السجلات بأثر رجعي، قمنا بمراجعة السجلات الطبية للأفراد الذين خضعوا لاستئصال الخثرة داخل الأوعية الدموية بسبب السكتة الدماغية الإقفارية الحادة في مستشفى الملك فهد العام في جدة، المملكة العربية السعودية. شملت الدراسة، التي أجريت من يوليو 2022 إلى نهاية أكتوبر 2023، تحليلا شاملا للعوامل السريرية والإشعاعية والعوامل المرتبطة بالوقت والنتائج المتنوعة. النتائج: في مجموعة مكونة من 117 مريضا بمتوسط عمر 58.5 عاما، كان 81 مريضا (69.2%) من الذكور. كان ارتفاع ضغط الدم والسكري من أكثر عوامل الخطر شيوعا، حيث أثرا على 48.7% و41% من المجموعة على التوالي. كان لدى ما يقرب من نصف المرضى درجة مواتية وفق برنامج ألبرتا للسكتة الدماغية للتصوير المقطعي المبكر (7-10)، وتلقى 45.3% منهم منشط البلازمينوجين عن طريق الوريد. حقق ما يقرب من ثلثي المرضى درجة 2ب في العلاج المعدل للاحتشاء الدماغي أو أعلى، وأظهر 39.3% انسداد الشريان الدماغي الأوسط-إم1. كان معدل حدوث التحول النزفي المصحوب بأعراض حوالي 13%، بينما حقق ثلث المرضى نتيجة مواتية حسب مقياس رانكين المعدل (0-2). ارتبطت عوامل مثل التقدم في السن، وارتفاع درجات مقياس السكتة الدماغية للمعاهد الوطنية للصحة، والإقامة الطويلة في المستشفى بنتائج أسوأ. وعلى العكس من ذلك، فإن غياب ارتفاع ضغط الدم والرجفان الأذيني، إلى جانب ارتفاع مقياس انحلال الخثرة في احتشاء دماغي، زاد بشكل كبير من احتمالية تحقيق نتائج إيجابية. الاستنتاجات: في دراستنا، أظهر مرضى استئصال الخثرة من الأوعية الدموية الذين تم فحصهم فئة عمرية أصغر سنا، حيث أظهرت النتائج السريرية والشعاعية درجة معينة من التشابه مع المنشورات الأخرى. ومن الجدير بالذكر أن غياب ارتفاع ضغط الدم والرجفان الأذيني، جنبا إلى جنب مع درجة أعلى في اختبار انحلال الخثرة في احتشاء دماغي، كان مرتبطا بزيادة احتمالية تحقيق نتيجة إيجابية Abstract: Background: Stroke is a significant contributor to both mortality and compromised physical function. Endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is now the recognized standard of care for anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke (AIS) with large vessel occlusion (LVO), especially when favorable brain images are evident within 24 h of symptom onset. This study elucidated the characteristics, clinical profiles, and outcomes of patients who underwent EVT for AIS. Methodology: In this retrospective record-based cohort study, we reviewed the medical records of individuals who underwent EVT for AIS at King Fahad General Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The study, conducted from July 2022 through October 2023, encompassed a comprehensive analysis of clinical, radiological, and time-related factors and diverse outcomes. Results: In a cohort of 117 patients with a mean age of 58.5 years, 81 (69.2%) were male. Hypertension and diabetes mellitus were the most common risk factors, affecting 48.7% and 41% of the cohort, respectively. Approximately half of the patients had a favorable ASPECT Score (7–10), and 45.3% received intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (tPA). Nearly two-thirds achieved a modified thrombolysis in cerebral infarction (mTICI) score of 2b or higher, and 39.3% exhibited M1-middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion. The incidence of symptomatic hemorrhagic transformation was about 13%, whereas one-third of the patients attained a favorable mRs outcome (0–2). Factors such as advanced age, higher NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores, and prolonged hospital stays were associated with poorer outcomes. Conversely, the absence of hypertension and atrial fibrillation, along with higher TICI scores, significantly increased the likelihood of favorable outcomes, with P values of 0.015, 0.0490, and 0.025, respectively. Conclusions: In our study, the examined patients who underwent EVT were younger in age, with clinical and radiological outcomes showing some degree of comparability to other publications. Notably, the absence of hypertension and atrial fibrillation, combined with a higher TICI score, was associated with an increased likelihood of achieving a favorable outcome.

Different degrees of natural radioactivity found in quartz can have negative consequences on health. Quartz vein along the investigated Abu Ramad area, Egypt, had its natural radioactivity assessed. The HPGe spectrometer was used to determine the role played by the radionuclides 238U, 232Th, and 40K in the gamma radiation that was emitted, and the results showed that these concentrations are 484.64 ± 288.4, 36.8 ± 13.1 and 772.2 ± 134.6 Bq kg−1 were higher than the corresponding reported global limits of 33, 45, and 412 Bq kg−1 for each radionuclide (238U, 232Th, and 40K). Among the radiological hazard parameters, the excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR) is estimated and it's mean value of ELCR (1.2) is higher than the permissible limit of 0.00029. The relationship between the radionuclides and the associated radiological hazard characteristics was investigated based on multivariate statistical methods including Pearson correlation, principal component analysis (PCA), and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA). According to statistical research, the radioactive risk of quartz is primarily caused by the 238U, 232Thand 40K. Finally, applying quartz to building materials would pose a significant risk to the public.

Nanotechnology has emerged as a promising solution for tackling antibiotic resistance in monogastric animals, providing innovative methods to enhance animal health and well-being. This review explores the novel use of nanotechnology-based nanomaterials as substitutes for antibiotics in monogastric animals. With growing global concerns about antibiotic resistance and the need for sustainable practices in animal husbandry, nanotechnology offers a compelling avenue to address these challenges. The objectives of this review are to find out the potential of nanomaterials in improving animal health while reducing reliance on conventional antibiotics. We examine various forms of nanomaterials and their roles in promoting gut health and also emphasize fresh perspectives brought by integrating nanotechnology into animal healthcare. Additionally, we delve into the mechanisms underlying the antibacterial properties of nanomaterials and their effectiveness in combating microbial resistance. By shedding light on the transformative role of nanotechnology in animal production systems. This review contributes to our understanding of how nanotechnology can provide safer and more sustainable alternatives to antibiotics.

Cancer has become a burgeoning global healthcare concern marked by its exponential growth and significant economic ramifications. Though advancements in the treatment modalities have increased the overall survival and quality of life, there are no definite treatments for the advanced stages of this malady. Hence, understanding the diseases etiologies and the underlying molecular complexities, will usher in the development of innovative therapeutics. Recently, YAP/TAZ transcriptional regulation has been of immense interest due to their role in development, tissue homeostasis and oncogenic transformations. YAP/TAZ axis functions as coactivators within the Hippo signaling cascade, exerting pivotal influence on processes such as proliferation, regeneration, development, and tissue renewal. In cancer, YAP is overexpressed in multiple tumor types and is associated with cancer stem cell attributes, chemoresistance, and metastasis. Activation of YAP/TAZ mirrors the cellular ''social'' behavior, encompassing factors such as cell adhesion and the mechanical signals transmitted to the cell from tissue structure and the surrounding extracellular matrix. Therefore, it presents a significant vulnerability in the clogs of tumors that could provide a wide window of therapeutic effectiveness. Natural compounds have been utilized extensively as successful interventions in the management of diverse chronic illnesses, including cancer. Owing to their capacity to influence multiple genes and pathways, natural compounds exhibit significant potential either as adjuvant therapy or in combination with conventional treatment options. In this review, we delineate the signaling nexus of YAP/TAZ axis, and present natural compounds as an alternate strategy to target cancer.

Globally, there is an increase in a number of bone disorders including osteoarthritis (OA), osteomyelitis, bone cancer, and etc., which has led to a demand for bone tissue regeneration. In order to take use of the osteogenic potential of natural herbs, mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs) have the ability to deliver therapeutically active chemicals locally. MBGNs influence bioactivity and osteointegration of materials making them suitable for bone tissue engineering (BTE). In the present study, we developed Peganum Harmala (P. harmala) loaded MBGNs (PH-MBGNs) synthesized via modified Stöber process. The MBGNs were analyzed in terms of surface morphology, chemical make-up, amorphous nature, chemical interaction, pore size, and surface area before and after loading with P. harmala. A burst release of drug from PH-MBGNs was observed within 8 h immersion in phosphate buffer saline (PBS). PH-MBGNs effectively prevented Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) from spreading. Furthermore, PH-MBGNs developed a hydroxyapatite (HA) layer in the presence of simulated body fluid (SBF) after 21 days, which confirmed the in-vitro bioactivity of MBGNs. In conclusion, PH-MBGNs synthesized in this work are potential candidate for scaffolding or a constituent in the coatings for BTE applications.

Background: The emergence and spread of SARS-CoV-2 throughout the world has created an enormous socioeconomic impact. Although there are several promising drug candidates in clinical trials, none is available clinically. Thus, the drug repurposing approach may help to overcome the current pandemic. Methods: The main protease (Mpro) of SARS-CoV-2 is crucial for cleaving nascent polypeptide chains. Here, FDA-approved antiviral and anti-infection drugs were screened by high-throughput virtual screening (HTVS) followed by re-docking with standard-precision (SP) and extra-precision (XP) molecular docking. The most potent drug's binding was further validated by free energy calculations (Prime/MM-GBSA) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. Results: Out of 1397 potential drugs, 157 showed considerable affinity toward Mpro. After HTVS, SP, and XP molecular docking, four high-affinity lead drugs (Iodixanol, Amikacin, Troxerutin, and Rutin) with docking energies −10.629 to −11.776 kcal/mol range were identified. Among them, Amikacin exhibited the lowest Prime/MM-GBSA energy (−73.800 kcal/mol). It led us to evaluate other aminoglycosides (Neomycin, Paramomycin, Gentamycin, Streptomycin, and Tobramycin) against Mpro. All aminoglycosides were bound to the substrate-binding site of Mpro and interacted with crucial residues. Altogether, Amikacin was found to be the most potent inhibitor of Mpro. MD simulations of the Amikacin-Mpro complex suggested the formation of a complex stabilized by hydrogen bonds, salt bridges, and van der Waals interactions. Conclusion: Aminoglycosides may serve as a scaffold to design potent drug molecules against COVID-19. However, further validation by in vitro and in vivo studies is required before using aminoglycosides as an anti-COVID-19 agent.

Composite structures have drawn growing attention for their outstanding characteristics benefiting from the combination of multi materials. This paper aims to investigate the crushing performance of a hybrid system involving an outer thin-walled tube made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP), a medial polyurethane (PU) foam and an inner thin-walled tube made of aluminium alloy (Al). The elastoplastic model of Al, the continuous damage model of CFRP and the compressible foam model of PU were established with assistance of universal material tests. The finite element model of the composite structure, namely CFRP-PU-Al, was validated by the experimental study. Based upon the reliable numerical modelling, the parametric study was carried out for exploring the effects of the wall thickness, diameter and ply orientation of the outer CFRP tube, namely CFRP-O, on the crushing behaviours of the composite structure. It was found that increasing the diameter or wall thickness of CFRP-O was helpful to increase the mean crushing force and energy absorption of CFRP-PU-Al, however, the overall specific energy absorption of the composite sandwich structure was limited by the characteristics of constitutive materials. Compared with the diameter, the wall thickness had a higher impact on the energy absorption characteristics, and increasing the diameter may decrease the specific energy absorption due to the increase of the overall structural mass. In terms of the ply orientation, the composite structure with stacking sequence of [0°/45°]3 possessed higher mean crushing force and energy absorption than the structure with stacking sequence of [0°/90°]3 under axial compression in this study.

Novel transparent glasses and glass-ceramics were fabricated by using melt-quenching technique with the following composition: TeO2–WO3–Nb2O5–KF–La2O3 doped with Tm2O3. Different properties and physical parameters of these glasses were investigated. As the concentration of Tm3+ ions increases, the linear refractive index increases while the optical energy gap decreases. With high Tm3+ ion concentration creates nucleation in the glass matrix this was investigated by x-ray diffraction. The Judd-Ofelt parameters used to calculate the electric and magnetic dipole transition probabilities, branching ratios, and radiative lifetimes of various excited states of Tm3+-doped parent glass. The emission cross section values for the 3F4→3H6 transition computed by using the McCumber hypothesis. The stimulated emission cross section σeFL(λ) and gain values of fabricated glass increase with Tm3+ ions. The spectroscopic quality and figure of merit (FOM) gain (σeFL(λ)×τR) factors were evaluated for the prepared transparent glass. Furthermore, the produced glasses were demonstrated to have low OH content and they have high fluoride ion content. These important properties of the glasses and glass-ceramics make them suitable for use in photonic applications.

Tobacco exposure is the primary leading cause for cancer of the oral cavity, the airways and lung. The carcinogens in cigarette smoke have been linked as an environmental risk factor for causing genetic mutations in tumor suppressor, including TP53 (p53) which has been linked as a causative for occurrence and progression in lung cancer. The aim of the current case-control study is to assess the presence and frequency of chromosomal aberrations between smokers and non-smokers in case and control group. Further, analysis was also extended to include the p53 codon 72 Arg/Pro mutation analysis between the groups of study cohort. In methods, the case-control epidemiological study included a total of 100 cases and controls who were further categorized as smokers and non-smokers for analysis. Chromosomal aberration assay was done on peripheral blood lymphocytes and studied using Geimsa stain, while analysis of the p53 codon 72 Arg/Pro mutation was done by allele-specific polymerase chain reaction assay. The chromosomal aberration assessed include structural abnormalities like breaks, fragment, dysenteric and gaps, as well as numerical aneuploidies. Results showing the number of chromosomal aberrations was higher among smoker cases as compared to controls, and numerical aneuploidy was also detected only among this cohort. We manufactured a new series of borosilicate glass doped with Dy3+ ions using a glass-quenching technique. To achieve the unique luminescence properties of our prepared glass, rare earth (Dy2O3) was incorporated into the glass matrix. The photoluminescence spectrum revealed five intense emission bands allocated at wavelengths 483 nm, 575 nm, 665 nm, 712 nm, and 752 nm, attributed to the transition from 4F9/2 → 6H15/2, 4F9/2 → 6H13/2, 4F9/2→ 6H11/2, 4F9/2→ 6F3/2, and 4F9/2→ 6H9/2 respectively. From the emission results of prepared glass at excitation wavelength 350 nm, we used our glass as a new solid laser source for the production of white light. From radiative properties measurements, the luminescence performance of fabricated samples showed a strong transition, with limited transition life and high values of branching ratio. Additional physical parameters were evaluated, such as density, optical packing density, and molar volume. By X-ray diffraction, we observed that all the prepared samples were of the amorphous phase. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy demonstrated the effect of incorporating Dy2O3 on the structure of our prepared glass. From the spectrum of absorption transitions, optical band gap Eg, refractive index (n), and Urbach energy (ΔE) were obtained. To research glass bonding nature, Judd-Ofelt strength parameters (Ωλ and λ = 2, 4, 6) were obtained; these parameters were used to achieve the spectroscopic efficiency factor, branching ratios (βr), and lifetime (τ). Moreover, the cross-sections of emission and absorption of our prepared glass was estimated. Finally, our cumulative study findings indicate that these manufactured samples may be used in luminescent display devices as a white light laser diode (W-LED).

Tellurite glass (TLZNT) with compositions 75TeO2–5Li2O–10ZnO–(10–x) Nb2O5−x Tm2O3, (doped with x = 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 in mol%) were prepared through the melt quenching technique. In the present work, the glass transition value slightly decreased from 351 to 347 °C otherwise thermal stability ΔTchangesfrom118to164°C of (TLZNT) glasses, investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The influence of Tm3+ ions (RE) on the structure of the TLZNT glasses was studied through different techniques such as X-ray pattern diffraction and Raman/Fourier transform infrared spectra. Moreover, the ratio of the relative bridging oxygen (BO) to non-bridging oxygen (NBO) in the prepared glass network was determined. Next, the packing density of oxygen, density, molar refraction, molar volumes, metallization criterion, molar polarizability, and linear refractive index of the prepared glasses were computed. The optical energy gap, the Judd–Ofelt parameters (J–O), the radiative branching ratio (βR), and the radiative lifetime (τR) of Tm3+ in TLZNT glasses were determined. The absorption cross section (σABS), emission cross section (σEMIS), and gain coefficient (σGA) were evaluated in the range wavelength of 1500–2000 nm. The high value of σEMIS(1.50 × 10−20 cm2) of the 3H6 → 3F4 transition of TLZNT3 glass was reported. We produced TLZNT glasses in which the addition of Tm2O3 improved the ΔT against nucleation and crystallization what is in good agreement with the decrease of the average force constant (F-) from 225 to 221.7 N/m with increasing Tm2O3. For the 1870 nm emission band, the emission cross section was determined to be approximately 1.5 × 10−20 cm2. Finally, the results herein will denote that the TLZNT glasses are a promising solid material for optical applications that could be excited by a commercial laser diode (LD).

The practice of identifying the potential zones for mineral exploration in a speedy and low-cost method includes the use of satellite imagery analysis as a part of remote sensing techniques. It is challenging to explore the iron mineralization of a region through conventional methods which are a time-consuming process. The current study utilizes the Hyperion satellite imagery for mapping the iron mineralization and associated geological features in the Irikkur region, Kannur, Kerala. Along with the remote sensing results, the field study and laboratory-based analysis were conducted to retrieve the ground truth point and geochemical proportion to verify the iron ore mineralization. The MC simulation showed for shielding properties indicate an increase in the linear attenuation coefficient with raising the Fe2O3+SiO2 concentrations in the investigated rocks where it is varied at 0.662 MeV in the range 0.190 cm−1- 0.222 cm−1 with rising the Fe2O3+SiO2 content from 57.86 wt% to 71.15 wt%. The analysis also revealed that when the γ-ray energy increased from 0.221 MeV to 2.506 MeV, sample 1 had the largest linear attenuation coefficient, ranging from 9.33 cm−1 to 0.12 cm−1. Charnockite rocks were found to have exceptional shielding qualities, making them an excellent natural choice for radiation shielding applications.

Hyperspectral data and its ability to explore the minerals and their associated rocks have a remarkable application in mineral exploration and lithological characterization. The present study aims to explore the radiation shielding aspects of the iron ore in Kerala with the aid of the Hyperion hyperspectral dataset. The reflectance-spectra obtained from the laboratory conditions as well as from the image show various absorptions. The results from the spectra are validated with geochemical data and GPS points. The Monte Carlo simulation employed to evaluate the radiation shielding ability. Raising the oxygen ions caused a noteworthy decrease in the μ values of the studied rocks which is accompanied by an increase in Δ0.5 and Δeq values. The Δ0.5 and Δeq values increased by factors of approximately 77 % with raising the oxygen ions between 44.32 and 47.57 wt.%. The μ values varies with the oxygen concentrations, where the μ values decreased from 2.531 to 0.925 cm−1 (at 0.059 MeV), from 0.381to 0.215 cm−1 (at 0.662 MeV), and from 0.279 to 0.158 cm−1 (at 1.25 MeV) with raising the oxygen ions from 44.32 to 47.43 wt.%.

The synthetic B2O3As2O3 glass ceramic are prepared to investigate the physical properties and the radiation shielding capabilities with the variation of concentration of the As2O3 with 10, 20, 30, and 40%, respectively. XRD analyses are performed on the fabricated glass–ceramic and depicted the improvement of crystallinity by adding As2O3. The radiation shielding properties are studied for the B2O3As2O3 glass ceramic. The values of linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) are varied with the variation of incident photon gamma energy (23.1–103 keV). The LAC values enhanced from 12.19 cm−1–37.75 cm−1 by raising the As2O3 concentration from 10 to 40 mol% at low gamma energy (23.1 keV) for BAs10 and BAs40, respectively. Among the shielding parameters, the half–value layer, transmission factor, and radiation protection efficiency are estimated. Furthermore, the fabricated samples of glass ceramic have low manufacturing costs and good shielding features compared to the previous work. It can be concluded the B2O3As2O3 glass ceramic is appropriate to apply in X-ray or low-energy gamma-ray shielding applications.

Single crystals of organic type of NLO crystalline material of DBNT - 8, 9-Dimethoxybenzo[b]naphtho [2,3-d] thiophene are proceeded to be grown by slow evaporation procedure and milled to micro scale and irradiated of Co-60 source of 100 Gy, 500 Gy and 5000 Gy for better scope of classification of system of the monoclinic type of DBNT-pure, micro and irradiated ones. The hardness study specifies the reverse indentation size effect (RISE) with work hardening coefficient above two of all DBNT specimen leads to the micro-tribological workings for springs with proper elastic parameters; the transmittance of DBNT of 5 specimens are 321 nm, 323 nm, 341 nm, 351 nm, and 352 nm for macro, micro, 100 Gy, 500 Gy, 5000 Gy. The photonic utility of identity for 3.86 eV and is 3.8629 eV by the transmittance data. The Non Linear Optical - NLO component this of 1.9, 1.94, 1.95, 1.96, 1.99 times that of KDP from which phase matching provision is enabled the influx property for the DBNT specimens is in the order of microns the (110) and (111) indexing represent for display device configuration. The dielectric behaviour of DBNT shows that polarization properly enabled for all categories by electrical performance, the abnormal variation is due to the vacancies created in the molecule by irradiation.

The human gastrointestinal tract harbors a diverse range of microbial species, which helps to regulate various biological processes such as homeostasis of the gut barrier, stimulation of the immune system, and neurological health benefits from the gut-brain axis. Further, gut microbiome has been found to aid in the uptake of nutrients from food in large intestines. The dietary changes may lead to significant changes in the gut microbial population, which suggest that a positive change can be made in gut microbial diversity by changing the dietary style. The potential dietary substances that can positively enhance the gut microbial populations could be dietary antioxidants, which possess many health benefits in multiple oxidative stress-related diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, etc. Food antioxidants are necessary nutrients required by the human body to balance the oxidative stress generated from various biochemical and metabolic reactions. The interactions between the gut microbiota and antioxidants are vital for maintenance of homeostasis in gut microbiome, as it helps in the diversity of gut bacteria and influences the bioavailability of antioxidants by increasing the production of bioactive metabolites through microbiome. It is evident from different studies that food-derived antioxidants and gut microbial population have an active interaction leading to alleviation of gut microbial dysbiosis. A plethora of clinical studies has found the positive impact of food antioxidants on gut microflora that could aid in developing gut microbe-targeting therapeutics for various diseases. This review discusses the health benefits of major dietary antioxidant groups, and the interaction of gut microbiota with these dietary antioxidants in-depth with various pre-clinical and human dietary interventions.

This study aims to explore the projectile impact behaviour of curved glass fibre reinforced plastics (GFRP) composites for rail vehicles through experimental and numerical methods. Quasi-static material tests were firstly carried out to obtain the tensile, compression, shear and bending properties. Then, high-velocity impact tests under different velocities were conducted for curved GFRP plates, which were cut from hood covers of a rail vehicle. The residual velocity of the projectile, the failure modes and the energy absorption of the composite targets were analysed. The classical Lambert-Jonas equation was used to predict the critical perforation velocity, which was also verified by the following finite element (FE) simulation in LS-DYNA. Based on the validated FE model, the effects of the impact velocity (65.14–152.22 m/s), target thickness (2 mm–8 mm) and impactor shape (flat, blunt, hemisphere and sphere) on the high-velocity impact performance of the target were studied. The results showed that the predicted critical perforation velocity of the curved GFRP plate with thickness of 6 mm was about 101.98 m/s in this study, and only local damages were observed near the trajectory. Increasing the thickness of the GFRP plate can improve its anti-penetration capability, however, the 4-mm plate possesses the highest specific energy absorption among the thickness of 2 mm–8 mm. Compared to the sharp impactors, the flat impactor resulted in the highest peak force of 260.39 kN and the maximum specific energy absorption of 502.65 J in the curved GFRP plates with thickness of 6 mm, due to the shear failure mechanism and the formation of embolism.

This paper presents an innovative artificial neural networks (ANNs) based hybrid algorithm of genetics optimization and sequential quadratic programming (AGOSQP) to construct the mathematical model for the dynamics of Lassa fever (DLF) in Nigeria. The model designated by the transmission of disease between two populations: human population i.e. susceptible Sh, exposed Eh, infectious Ih and recovered Rh humans and rodent population i.e. susceptible Sr and infectious Ir rodents. The log sigmoid function as an objective function based on mean squared error is constructed to optimize AGOSQP where genetic algorithm work as global searching optimization and SQP serve as the local searching optimization. To assess the correctness, robustness and convergence stability, the comparison between state of art Adam method and proposed AGOSQP is established. The Theil’s inequality coefficient (TIC), root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute deviation (MAD) are also computed to authenticate the efficiency of proposed AGOSQP to solve the model for the dynamics of Lassa fever.

The radiation-protection properties of the magnetic semiconducting quaternary compounds Cu2CoGeS4, Cu2CoGeSe4, and Cu2CoGeTe4 were examined in this study by using Phy-X/PSD software with the selected gamma energy (0.015–15 MeV). The radiation shielding coefficients such as mass and linear attenuation coefficients (MAC) and (LAC), half-value layer (HVL), and mean free path (MFP) of the present semiconductors were calculated. Also, the total electronic and atomic cross-sections (ECS and ACS), the effective atomic number (Zeff), the effective electron density (Neff), and the effective conductivity (Ceff) of these semiconductors were estimated to see how well they could protect against radiation. A comparative study occurred between the obtained results and the corresponding values of RS-253-G18, RS-360, RS-520 glasses, barite, chromite, and ferrite concrete. The results show that semiconducting samples with the best shielding performance outperform RS-253-G18, RS-360 glass, and RS-520 glass materials commonly used in nuclear applications. The Cu2CoGeTe4 sample had the highest MAC, LAC, and ACS, as well as the highest ECS and Zeff values. The other two semiconductor samples had the lowest MAC, ECS, and Zeff values. For photons, charged particles (electrons, protons, alpha particles), and C-ion, Phy-X/PSD allows the calculation of the Zeff quickly and precisely across the entire energy range. This study indicates that the semiconductor samples can be utilized as radiation attenuators for various nuclear fields.

This research investigates the influence of the concentration of Sm+3 ions on the properties of a new borosilicate glass system with the composition 50B2O3– 14SiO2- 20Li2O– 15Na2O– 1.0Al2O3-x(Sm2O3), where × = 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 ppm. The glasses are characterized by XRD, FTIR, UV– Vis-NIR, and photoluminescence spectra. The XRD results proved that all glasses prepared are amorphous. Moreover, it was found that the values of density (ρ), and refractive index (n), rise with increasing of Sm+3 content. Otherwise, the value of molar volume, optical energy gap, and boron-boron distance decrease by increasing Sm+3 concentration. The structure of glasses studied was investigated by computing Internuclearri, Polaron radius rp, field strength F and the deconvolution of FTIR spectra. Judd-Ofelt theory was applied to clarify the structural changes and nature of the bonds of glasses prepared. Moreover, a spectroscopic quality factor, the branching ratio (βr), and lifetime (τ) are calculated with the use of Judd-Ofelt parameters. The color chromaticity of the glasses confirmed that the emission in the white-reddish orange region under 402 nm excitation is affected by the concentration of Sm3+ ions. The results of photoluminescence emission stimulated emission cross-section, and CIE chromaticity leads to the conclusion that the glass BSLNA5 are promising candidates as laser material for light-emitting diode (LED).
