EEG studies play a crucial role in enhancing our understanding of brain development across the lifespan. The increasing clinical and policy implications of EEG research underscore the importance of utilizing reliable EEG measures and increasing the reproducibility of EEG studies. However, important data characteristics like reliability, effect sizes, and data quality metrics are often underreported in pediatric EEG studies. This gap in reporting could stem from the lack of accessible computational tools for quantifying these metrics for EEG data. To help address the lack of reporting, we developed a toolbox that facilitates the estimation of internal consistency reliability, effect size, and standardized measurement error with user-friendly software that facilitates both computing and interpreting these measures. In addition, our tool provides subsampled reliability and effect size in increasing numbers of trials. These estimates offer insights into the number of trials needed for detecting significant effects and reliable measures, informing the minimum number of trial thresholds for the inclusion of participants in individual difference analyses and the optimal trial number for future study designs. Electroencephalography (EEG) is an important tool in the field of developmental cognitive neuroscience for indexing neural activity. However, racial biases persist in EEG research that limit the utility of this tool. One bias comes from the structure of EEG nets/caps that do not facilitate equitable data collection across hair textures and types. Recent efforts have improved EEG net/cap design, but these solutions can be time-intensive, reduce sensor density, and are more difficult to implement in younger populations. The present study focused on testing EEG sensor net designs over infancy. Specifically, we compared EEG data quality and retention between two high-density saline-based EEG sensor net designs from the same company (Magstim EGI, Whitland, UK) within the same infants during a baseline EEG paradigm. We found that within infants, the tall sensor nets resulted in lower impedances during collection, including lower impedances in the key online reference electrode for those with greater hair heights and resulted in a greater number of usable EEG channels and data segments retained during pre-processing. Background: Ocular manifestations of Wilms' tumor are rare, particularly in adults. We present the first reported case of a choroidal metastasis resulting from Wilms' tumor., Design: Case report., Participant: A 37-year-old white male with an adult-onset biopsy-proven Wilms' tumor with multiorgan metastatic disease., Results: We report a unique case of uveal metastasis presumed from a Wilms' tumor. The patient's history included a primary Wilms' tumor with known disseminated metastasis, orbital pain, metamorphopsia, and decreased vision. Ophthalmoscopy revealed a unifocal choroidal tumor in the inferotemporal quadrant of the right eye. Ultrasonographic measurements of the tumor were 4.9 mm in apical height and 15 x 13 mm in basal diameter. Unusual ultrasound findings included echodense stromal opacities and retrobulbar edema. Fluorescein angiography revealed double circulation and late intratumoral fluorescence., Conclusions: This is the first reported case of a choroidal metastasis by a Wilms' tumor.

Thirty-four patients who had received over 1 gram of gold compounds for rheumatoid arthritis were examined for ocular chrysiasis. Ninety-seven percent of the patients receiving continuous chrysotherapy at the time of their ocular examination exhibited corneal chrysiasis. With few exceptions, corneal gold deposits were limited to the posterior one-half of the corneal thickness. Deposits tended to concentrate inferiorly and to spare the superior and peripheral cornea. Duration of chrysotherapy correlated positively with the clinically graded density of deposits. In this series, 55% (16/29) of these patients receiving gold therapy for three years or more had lenticular chrysiasis, although this has previously been considered rare. Our data suggest that gold is deposited in the cornea and lens from the anterior chamber aqueous fluid.

Primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction (PANDO) of adults is a clinical syndrome of unknown cause, and the histopathology of the nasolacrimal duct has not been substantially studied. A technique of excisional biopsy of the soft tissue contents within the nasolacrimal canal during external dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is presented. No complications were associated with the biopsy technique in 14 cases. Two cases of lacrimal obstruction secondary to sarcoidosis and leukemia were discovered in biopsies of patients with the clinical syndrome of PANDO, demonstrating the value of routine biopsy during DCR. Biopsies revealed a spectrum of changes that correlated with duration of symptoms. Early cases revealed active chronic inflammation along the entire length of the narrowed nasolacrimal duct. Intermediate cases revealed focal resolution of the inflammatory process with fibrosis, while late cases showed fibrous obliteration of the entire duct. Although the first event in primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction remains uncertain, clinicopathologic correlation suggests that compression of the duct by inflammatory infiltrates and edema precedes clinical chronic dacryocystitis.
