Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, CF centers shifted to a telehealth delivery model. Our study aimed to determine how people with CF (PwCF) and their families experienced telehealth and assessed its quality and acceptability for future CF care., Methods: The CF Patient and Family State of Care Survey (PFSoC) was fielded from August 31-October 30, 2020. The PFSoC explored themes of overall telehealth quality, ease of use, desirability, and preference for a future mix of in-person and telehealth care. Demographic covariates considered included: gender, age, CFTR modulator status, and region of residence., Results: 424 PwCF and parents of PwCF responded (47% parents). Most (81%) reported a telehealth visit which included a MD/APP and nurse team members. 91% found telehealth easy to use, and 66% reported similar/higher quality than in-person care. One-third (34%) reported the highest desire for future telehealth care, with 45% (n =212) desiring 50% or more of visits conducted via telehealth. Adults were more likely than parents to report highest desire for future telehealth (64% vs. 36%). Respondents who perceived telehealth as similar/higher quality were more likely to desire future telehealth compared to those who perceived telehealth as lower quality (96% vs. 50%). Mixed methods analysis revealed themes affecting perceptions of telehealth., Conclusions: PwCF desire for future telehealth was influenced by perception of quality and age. The Standardizing Care to improve Outcomes in Pediatric End stage renal disease (SCOPE) Collaborative aims to reduce peritonitis rates in pediatric chronic peritoneal dialysis patients by increasing implementation of standardized care practices. To assess this, monthly care bundle compliance and annualized monthly peritonitis rates were evaluated from 24 SCOPE centers that were participating at collaborative launch and that provided peritonitis rates for the 13 months prior to launch. Changes in bundle compliance were assessed using either a logistic regression model or a generalized linear mixed model. Changes in average annualized peritonitis rates over time were illustrated using the latter model. In the first 36 months of the collaborative, 644 patients with 7977 follow-up encounters were included. The likelihood of compliance with follow-up care practices increased significantly (odds ratio 1.15, 95% confidence interval 1.10, 1.19). Mean monthly peritonitis rates significantly decreased from 0.63 episodes per patient year (95% confidence interval 0.43, 0.92) prelaunch to 0.42 (95% confidence interval 0.31, 0.57) at 36 months postlaunch. A sensitivity analysis confirmed that as mean follow-up compliance increased, peritonitis rates decreased, reaching statistical significance at 80% at which point the prelaunch rate was 42% higher than the rate in the months following achievement of 80% compliance. In its first 3 years, the SCOPE Collaborative has increased the implementation of standardized follow-up care and demonstrated a significant reduction in average monthly peritonitis rates., (Copyright © 2016 International Society of Nephrology. Background: Illicit drug markets are a key component of the risk environment surrounding injection drug use. However, relatively few studies have explored how injection drug users' (IDUs) involvement in drug dealing shapes their experiences of drug market-related harm. This exploratory qualitative study aims to understand IDUs' dealing activities and roles, as well as the perceived benefits and risks related to participation in illicit drug markets, including experiences of drug market violence., Methods: Ten IDUs with extensive involvement in drug dealing activities were recruited from the Vancouver Injection Drug User Study (VIDUS) and participated in semi-structured qualitative interviews, which elicited discussion of experiences dealing drugs, perceived benefits and hazards related to dealing, and understandings of drug market violence., Results: Participant's involvement in drug market activities included corporate sales, freelance or independent sales, and opportunistic sales termed "middling" as well as drug market-related hustles entailing selling bogus drugs and robbing dealers. Participants primarily dealt drugs to support their own illicit drug use, and we found that arrest and criminal justice involvement, hazards stemming from drug debts, and drug market-related violence were key risks related to dealing activities., Conclusion: The challenges of managing personal consumption while selling drugs exacerbates the hazards associated with drug dealing. Efforts to address drug dealing among IDUs should consider both drug dependency and the material conditions that propel drug users towards dealing activities. Interventions should explore the potential of combining enhanced drug treatment programs with low threshold employment and alternative income generation opportunities., (Copyright © 2013. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of dietary vitamin E supplementation on the distribution and concentration of α-tocopherol in beef muscles. Crossbred cattle (n=8) were selected and divided into two groups and fed diets containing 20 (basal) and 3000 mg (supplemented) α-tocopheryl acetate/head/day for 135 days prior to slaughter. Carcasses were split centrally and chilled at 4°C for 10 days. Muscles (n=16) were identified and removed from the left side of each animal and stored at -20°C until required. Mean α-tocopherol levels in muscles were significantly (P<0.05) higher in all supplemented muscles with the exception of m. infraspinatis and m. deltoidous compared to controls. Mean α-tocopherol levels in muscles from the supplemented group decreased in the order m. supraspinatis > m. psoas major > m. trapezius > m. gluteus medius > m. triceps caput brachii lumborum > m. rhomboidous > m. seratus ventralis > m. gluteobiceps > m. semitendinosus > m. semimembranosus > m. infraspinatis > m. subscapularis > m. tricepscaputbrachiilaterale > m. deltoidous > m. longissimus thorasis > m. longissimus lumborum. Significant (P<0.05) differences in α-tocopherol distribution within muscles were observed for supplemented m. psoas major and control m. seratus ventralis (highest levels in posterior ends and lowest in anterior ends) only. However, trends showed definite distribution patterns for other muscles. Levels of α-tocopherol were found to be highest in oxidative muscles (m. psoas major and m. gluteus medius) and lowest in glycolytic muscles (m. longissimus thoracis and m. longissimus lumborum) while moderate levels of α-tocopherol occurred in intermediate muscles (m. semimembranosus).

A method is described for the recovery of fatty acids from silica gel on thin-layer plates. The method is simple and rapid and depends on the conversion of silica gel to potassium silicate, using potassium hydroxide, followed by acidification in such a way that the silicic acid is kept in solution. Fatty acids are then extracted by shaking with solvent. Fatty acid recovery from free fatty acid, phospholipid, glyceride and cholesterol ester zones is more than 90% efficient. There is no oxidation or isomerization of unsaturated fatty acids.
