The hierarchical decision making in process industries has been traditionally viewed as having a common objective, such as the overall cost, which needs to be optimized. However, a more appropriate approach is to formulate and solve hierarchical optimization and control problems. The solution algorithms for hierarchical optimization problems have been reported in the literature. The idea is to recast each optimization sub-problem in the hierarchy into a multiparametric programming problem, considering the variables of upper-level problems as unknown parameters. In this paper, explicit Model Predictive Control (MPC) and hierarchical optimization techniques, employing multiparametric programming, are combined for hierarchical MPC. The solution algorithm for hierarchical MPC is described in detail. Note that the solution to a hierarchical MPC problem is challenging, even for the simplest case of linear-quadratic objectives. Closed-loop simulations of a thermal mixing process, under two different hierarchical MPC formulations, are performed and the control performance is studied.

South Asia is a global hotspot for climate change with enormous pressure on land and water resources for feeding the burgeoning population. The agricultural production systems are highly vulnerable in the region and is primarily dominated by small and marginal farmers with intensive farming practices that had favored the loss of carbon (C) from soil. This review discusses the potential of soil and crop management practices such as minimum/reduced/no-tillage, use of organic manure, balanced and integrated plant nutrient application, precision land levelling, precision water and pest management, residue management, and cropping system optimization to maintain the C-equilibrium between soil and atmosphere and to enhance the C-sequestration in the long run. Results of meta-analysis show a potential 36% increase in soil organic C stock in the top 0–15 cm layer in this region which amounts to ∼18 Mg C stocks ha−1. Improved management practices across crops and environment may reduce methane em0ission by 12% resulting in an 8% reduction in global warming potential (GWP), while non-submerged condition led to a 51% GWP reduction in rice. Conservation agriculture and precision fertilization also reduced GWP by 11 and 14%, respectively. Although several innovative climate resilient technologies having significant potential for C-sequestration have been developed, there is an urgent need for their scaling and accelerated adoption to increase soil C-sequestration. Policies and programs need to be devised for incentivizing farmers to adopt more C-neutral or C-positive agricultural practices. The national governments and other agencies should work towards C farming together with global initiatives such as the “4 per 1000” Initiative and Global Soil Partnership, and regional public-private partnership initiatives on carbon credits for Regenerative Agriculture such as by Grow Indigo-CIMMYT-ICAR in India, in addition to research and policy changes. This will be vital for the success of soil C sequestration towards climate action in South Asia.

Background: Neighborhood deprivation is linked with inflammation, which may explain poorer health across populations. Behavioral risk factors are assumed to largely mediate these relationships, but few studies have examined this. We examined three neighborhood contextual factors that could exert direct effects on inflammation: (1) neighborhood socioeconomic status, (2) an index of concentration at extremes (that measures segregation), and (3) surrounding vegetation (greenness). Methods: Using blood samples and addresses collected from prospective cohorts of 7,930 male (1990–1994) and 16,183 female (1986–1990) health professionals with at least one inflammatory marker, we prospectively linked neighborhood contextual factors to inflammatory biomarkers (adiponectin, C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor-2). Log-transformed, z-scaled component measures were used to calculate an inflammation score. Neighborhood socioeconomic status and index of concentration of extremes were obtained from the 1990 decennial census and linked to participant addresses. Surrounding greenness was assessed from satellite data and focal statistics were applied to generate exposures within 270 m and 1230 m of the participants’ address. We fit multiple linear regression models adjusting for demographic, clinical, and behavioral risk factors. Results: Higher neighborhood socioeconomic status was associated with lower inflammation score in women (β for interquartile range increase = −27.7%, 95% CI: −34.9%, −19.8%) and men (β = −21.2%, 95% CI: −31.0%, −10.1%). Similarly, participants in neighborhoods with higher concentrations of high-income households were associated with lower inflammation score in women (β = −27.8%, 95% CI: −35.8%, −18.7%) and men (β = -16.4%, 95% CI: −29.7%, −0.56%). Surrounding greenness within 270 m of each participant’s address was associated with lower inflammation score in women (β = -18.9%, 95% CI: −28.9%, −7.4%) but not men. Results were robust to sensitivity analyses to assess unmeasured confounding and selection bias. Discussion: Our findings support the hypothesis that adverse neighborhood environments may contribute to inflammation through pathways independent of behavioral risk factors, including psychosocial stress and toxic environments.

Understanding and responding to adverse human health impacts of global environmental change will be a major priority of 21st century public health professionals. The emerging field of planetary health aims to face this challenge by studying and promoting policies that protect the health of humans and of the Earth's natural systems that support them. Public health, drawing on its experience of guiding policies to improve population health, has contributed to planetary health's development. Yet, few public health practitioners are familiar with planetary health's systems-oriented approaches for understanding relationships between economic development, environmental degradation, and human health. In this narrative review, we present key planetary health concepts and show how systems thinking has guided its development. We discuss historical approaches to studying impacts of economic development on human health and the environment. We then review novel conceptual frameworks adopted by planetary health scientists to study and forecast impacts of policies that influence human health and Earth's natural systems at varying spatiotemporal scales. We conclude by presenting examples of how applying the “Doughnut” model (an economic framework where the needs of people are met without overshooting the world's ecological limits) could guide policies for promoting health co-benefits to humans and natural systems.

CO2 capture and storage (CCS) technology is likely to be widely deployed in the coming decades in response to major climate and economics drivers: CCS is part of every clean energy pathway that limits global warming to 2 ​°C or less and receives significant CO2 tax credits in the United States. These drivers are likely to stimulate the capture, transport, and storage of hundreds of millions or billions of tonnes of CO2 annually. A key part of the CCS puzzle will be identifying and characterizing suitable storage sites for vast amounts of CO2. We introduce a new software tool called SCO2T (Sequestration of CO2 Tool, pronounced “Scott”), a dynamic CO2 injection and storage model, to rapidly characterize saline storage reservoirs. The tool is designed to rapidly screen hundreds of thousands of reservoirs, perform sensitivity and uncertainty analyses, and link sequestration engineering (injection rates, reservoir capacities, plume dimensions) to sequestration economics (costs constructed from around 70 separate economic inputs). We describe the novel science developments supporting SCO2T including a new approach to estimating CO2 injection rates and CO2 plume dimensions as well as key advances linking sequestration engineering with economics. We perform a sensitivity and uncertainty analysis of geology parameter combinations—including formation depth, thickness, permeability, porosity, and temperature—to understand the impact on carbon sequestration. Through the sensitivity analysis, we show that increasing depth and permeability both can lead to increased CO2 injection rates, increased storage potential, and reduced costs, while increasing porosity reduces costs without impacting the injection rate (CO2 is injected at a constant pressure in all cases) by increasing the reservoir capacity. Through uncertainty analysis—where formation thickness, permeability, and porosity are randomly sampled—we show that final sequestration costs are normally distributed with upper bound costs around 50% higher than the lower bound costs. While site selection decisions will ultimately require detailed site characterization and permitting, SCO2T provides an inexpensive dynamic screening tool that can help prioritize projects based on the complex interplay of reservoir, infrastructure (e.g., proximity to pipelines), and other (e.g., land use, legal) constraints on the suitability of certain regions for CCS.

Summary: The bromodomain protein 4 (BRD4) is an atypical kinase and histone acetyl transferase (HAT) that binds to acetylated histones and contributes to chromatin remodeling and early transcriptional elongation. During transcription, BRD4 travels with the elongation complex. Since most alternative splicing events take place co-transcriptionally, we asked if BRD4 plays a role in regulating alternative splicing. We report that distinct patterns of alternative splicing are associated with a conditional deletion of BRD4 during thymocyte differentiation in vivo. Similarly, the depletion of BRD4 in T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) cells alters patterns of splicing. Most alternatively spliced events affected by BRD4 are exon skipping. Importantly, BRD4 interacts with components of the splicing machinery, as assessed by both immunoprecipitation (IP) and proximity ligation assays (PLAs), and co-localizes on chromatin with the splicing regulator, FUS. We analysed the results of penis-preserving (conservative) treatment of early stage cancer of the penis with neodymium: yttrium-aluminium-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser with long-term follow-up in a developing country. Methods: This was a retrospective study of 32 patients with cancer penis from 1993 to 2005 who were treated by Nd:YAG laser local excision and in situ coagulation of the tumour bed. Results: Out of 32 patients who were treated with Nd:YAG laser, 25 had pT1 and seven had pT2 stage cancer penis. The median follow-up was 70 months (range, 6-120 months). Two had stopped attending the follow-up clinic after 6-12 months. Three patients had concurrent and six had delayed inguinal block dissection. There was no mortality but two (6.25%) patients developed recurrence in 48-60 months post laser excision. Penis was preserved in all 32 patients. All patients were satisfied with the cosmetic result. Eight patients practiced celibacy, in 23 sexual functions were normal and in one this information was not available. Micturition was in standing posture in all 32 patients. Conclusion: The result of this study shows that Nd:YAG laser treatment of early stage cancer penis has good local control with preservation of the penis.

The diagnosis of adult Hirschsprung disease (HD) is rare, furthermore there are only 3 or 4 cases of adult ultrashort segment HD (USHD) reported previously in English literature to our knowledge. Herein, we present a case of a 22-year-old female presented with long standing history of constipation and abdominal distension secondary to USHD. Imaging modalities included plain abdominal X-ray, ultrasound (USG) and computed tomography (CT) scan which collectively aided in establishing the diagnosis. Through this case report, we aim to emphasize that HD should be suspected in every adult population with chronic constipation. Also, it highlights the role of CT scan as how it should be the preferred diagnostic tool for suspected adult HD, as, not only it helps correctly identify the transition zone but rule out other possible causes of chronic obstruction.

Spent bleaching earth (SBE) waste generated from crude palm oil (CPO) processing companies is constantly increasing as the demand for the oleo product is rising worldwide. This study aims to assess oil recovery from SBE using two process options to be implemented in a cooking oil plant in Sei Mangkei, North Sumatra. A techno-economic simulation was conducted to assess the feasibility of the two scenarios. The first scenario of the oil recovery plant from SBE was proposed without bleaching earth (BE) recovery. The second scenario proposed both oil and BE recovery. The research results showed that both scenarios were feasible, with scenario 2 having slightly better economic parameters. The SBE volume processed by the company was far more significant in affecting the feasibility of SBE reutilization. According to the techno-economic calculations, in scenario 1, the internal rate of return (IRR) was 23.56 %, the net present value (NPV) was USD 2.6 million, and the payback period was 3.9 years. Scenario 2 exhibited an IRR of 25.21 %, an NPV of USD 3.375 million, and a return time of 3.7 years.

The biofuel policy has been given much attention, especially bioethanol blending policy. Empty fruit bunch (EFB) can be used as a feedstock for bioethanol but need more study in terms of supply chain and economical aspect. The novelty of this study is to find the optimal EFB supply chain model in several palm oil mill in Riau Province. Economic evaluation is also carried out to determine the economic value of biorefineries and to obtain economical selling prices of bioethanol products. The Simplex linear programming method is used to optimize the EFB feedstock supply model, and ArcGIS is used to determine and to analyse the distance and location of each facility. There are three scenarios used in our study which are decentralizing, clustering, and centralizing EFB preparation unit. Economic feasibility is also used to calculate bioethanol minimum selling price. Our study shows that the scenario with EFB preparation facilities located in each palm oil mill location is the most efficient supply chain model with the feedstock cost of 6.1 cUSD per kg (Scenario 3). After creating various end-product blends (denoted as E5 to E20), the bioethanol price can compete with retail fuels. The price of E5 is slightly higher than Pertamax 92 RON, being around cUSD 3 per liter more expensive. Meanwhile in E20, the price is cUSD 18 per liter more expensive than the price of Pertamax Turbo RON 98. However, the use of E20 can be considered as it has a lower emission value compared to fossil fuels, potentially reducing emissions by 12 % when compared to RON 90.

Conventional rice production through puddled transplanted rice-PTR is tillage, water, energy, and capital intensive. Furthermore, it is a major contributor to greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions. In this regard, Direct seeded rice-DSR can be a potential alternative to PTR for reducing GHGs emissions, while sustaining yields. However, depending upon agroclimatic situation, whether the effect of DSR on GHGs emission and yield are consistent or not, as compared to PTR need a comprehensive analysis. To bridge this knowledge gap, we performed a meta-analysis synthesizing 876 paired measurements from 54-peer-reviewed studies to understand how DSR impacts N2O and CH4 emissions, global warming potential-GWP (heat-trapping potential of greenhouse gases compared to CO2), yield and C-footprint-CFP (environmental impact in CO2 eq. due to concerned activity). Compared to PTR, DSR decreased CH4 emissions by 70%, GWP by 37% and CFP by 34%, despite 85% increase in N2O emissions. However, this shift comes with 11% decrease in yield. To decipher the primary factors driving these outcomes, we conducted subgroup analyses by taking environmental conditions and management practices as predictors in a random effect model. Low to medium pH soils, zero tillage, puddled soil (wet DSR), conventional flooding, and high nitrogen rates (>200 kg/ha) are found to be favorable for DSR with comparable yields but posing a discrepancy with environmental sustainability benefits. Therefore, further research to evaluate DSR across agro-ecologies, management practices are needed to optimize yields with lower GWP and CFP.

Assessing the blood hematocrit (Hct) and oxygenation (SO2) levels are essential for diagnosing numerous blood-related diseases. This study examines the ability of the photoacoustic (PA) technique for quantitative evaluation of these parameters. We conducted the Monte Carlo and k-Wave simulations to compute PA signals at four different optical wavelengths from test blood samples followed by rigorous in vitro experiments. This method can estimate the Hct and SO2 levels faithfully with ≥95% and ≥93% accuracies, respectively in the physiologically relevant hematocrits utilizing PA signals generated at 700 and 1000 nm optical wavelengths. A 2% decrease in the scattering anisotropy factor demotes SO2 estimation by ≈ 27%. This study provides sufficient insight into how the opto-chemical parameters of blood impact PA emission and may help to develop a PA setup for in vitro characterization of human blood.

Synchronous existence of hepatic, splenic, and skeletal hemangiomas has not been reported previously in the English literature to our knowledge. In this case report, we present a case of coexistence of hepatic, splenic, and skeletal hemangiomas in a 30-year-old woman with on and off bilateral lumbar region pain and no significant past medical history. Radiological investigations, including ultrasound and computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging helped identify the synchronous existence of hepatic, splenic, and skeletal hemangiomas. The patient improved with conservative management and was kept on follow-ups. Although there have been reports of coexistence of splenic and hepatic hemangiomas in the literature, to our knowledge, this is the first report of synchronous existence of hepatic, splenic, and skeletal hemangiomas.

This study analyzed the aspirin molecule (C9H8O4) using Density Functional Theory (DFT) on Gaussian 09W software. First, the structure of aspirin was optimized using the DFT method with the B3LYP functional and the 6-311+G (d,p) basis set. A global reactivity study was employed to understand the reactivity of aspirin in gas and solvent water for both anion and neutral states. To understand the involvement of orbitals in chemical stability and electron conductivity, we calculated the HOMO-LUMO. The thermodynamic function of a molecule was understood using thermochemistry. Molecular Electrostatic Potential (MEP) was employed to understand the physiochemical properties of aspirin. We observed the Mulliken atomic charge to calculate the atomic charge of aspirin. Finally, the title molecule's UV–Vis, FTIR, and Raman spectra are analyzed and compared with the experimental data.

Functionalization of chitosan as salicylaldehyde and 2-acetylphenol-based chitosan thiosemicarbazone involving amino group at C2 position of pyranose ring was confirmed by comprehensive characterization by spectroscopic and analytical ways. Both the low molecular weight (Mw) chitosan oligosaccharide (CS) (Mw < 3000 Da, degree of deacetylation (DDA) = 87 %) and the crab shell chitosan (CCS) (Mw = 350 kDa, DDA = 67 %) functionalized thiosemicarbazones behaved as ONS tridentate ligand to form the square planar copper(II) complexes with a chloride ion as an additional ligand to satisfy the co-ordination sphere. All the derivatives were found thermally stable till the commencement of chitosan backbone disruption at 200 °C. The MTT assay profiles showed a conspicuous enhancement in the in vitro antitumorigenic and anticancer activity of native chitosan upon its functionalization as phenolic carbaldehyde chitosan thiosemicarbazones. Further, the assays more often revealed a further lowering of cell viability with chitosan oligosaccharide derivatives in comparison to high molecular weight chitosan derivatives, and a lower viability of the MCF-7 cancer cells than the tumorigenic MDCK cells. Both the low Mw chitosan with high DDA and high Mw chitosan with low DDA, the chitosan-functionalized salicylaldehyde based thiosemicarbazones, and their copper(II) chitosan thiosemicarbazone complexes were found to have minimal toxicity with IC50 >600 μgmL−1 against the mouse embryonic normal fibroblast NIH3T3 cells. These results were indicatives of more protonation and enhanced anticancer activity of chitosan oligosaccharide derivatives, and preferential cytotoxicity of chitosan biomaterials against the tumorigenic and cancer cells with more negatively charged cell surfaces.

Tea [Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze] is an important crop cultivated in all over the world. The main problem in tea cultivation is the attack by a bug called Helopeltis theivora. Many different strategies, such as the use of pesticides and insecticides, have been developed to prevent pest attacks on tea crops. However, most pesticides and insecticides are also hazardous to the environment. Therefore, biopesticides can be used as alternatives to chemical pesticides to prevent pest attacks on crops. Chitinase is an important biopesticide owing to its ability to prevent pest growth. Hence, this enzyme could be used to target H. theivora by attacking C. sinensis. The present study involved in silico docking and binding analysis of a chitinase from Pseudomonas fluorescens MP-13 with glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) from H. theivora. The secondary structures of chitinase and GAPDH were determined using SOPMA, and their three-dimensional structures were modeled using the Swiss model and validated using PROCHECK and Ramachandran plots. Chitinase and GAPDH were docked using HADDOCK docking software. Docking studies governed a HADDOCK docking score of -125.8, which showed good binding between the two proteins. The amino acid residues involved in binding were analyzed using PDBSum and the final docked structure was visualized using PyMol. Furthermore, in molecular dynamics studies, the binding region between chitinase and GAPDH residues was intact and stable, and did not detach throughout the simulation duration. It is clearly evidenced that chitinase from P. fluorescens and GAPDH from H. theivora interacted well with each other, thereby improves the chitinase's ability to target H. theivora and hence, chitinase can be used as a potent biopesticide. However, a detailed molecular functional and experimental studies are mandates to confirm the role of P. fluorescens in regulation of H. theivora.

Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome is a congenital disorder characterized by agenesis or aplasia of the uterus. Patients usually present with primary amenorrhea. MRKH can be isolated (type I) or accompanied by other malformations (type II) involving the kidney, skeletal, and vascular systems. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the mainstay of imaging modality in evaluating this syndrome. A 20-year-old woman presented with cyclic abdominal pain and primary amenorrhea. Secondary sexual characteristics and hormone evaluation were normal. Ultrasound and MRI were conducted and revealed no normal uterus structure with ectopic ovarium and crossed fused ectopic renal.

It has been suggested that a corona virus infection is linked to chronic periodontitis (COVID-19). Our objectives were to look at the expression of angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE2) in periodontal compartments containing periodontal infections to determine if ACE2 is directly or indirectly responsible for the inflammation in periodontal tissues getting worse. In this study, six non-COVID-19 periodontitis patients without diabetes served as controls, and 23 hospitalized periodontitis patients were admitted with PCR-confirmed COVID-19 with diabetes mellitus (Group 1/G1, n = 10), and without diabetes (Group 2/G2, n = 13). We evaluated the mRNA expression of ACE2, IL-6, IL-8, complement C3, and LL-37, as well as the relative proportion of Porphyromonas gingivalis, Fusobacterium nucleatum, and Veillonella parvula to represent the dysbiosis condition in periodontal microenvironment using subgingival plaque and gingival crevicular fluids (GCF) samples and quantitative real time PCR (qPCR). Every analysis was done to ascertain how they related to one another. Land Subsidence (LS) is a vertically downward motion of land surface due to various reasons such as natural processes and anthropogenic activities especially excessive exploitation of groundwater. LS has adverse effects on substantial infrastructural damage, severe environmental problems, extensive economic losses, and significant societal impacts. In this study, we investigated the LS of Ludhiana city, a densely populated, largest and major industrial city of Punjab state, India. We presented a comprehensive methodology of Short BAseline Subset Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (SBASInSAR) for LS measurement using an open-source computational environment. We generated 197 interferograms from 65 Sentinel-1A images acquired in descending pass between September 2019–July 2022 for deriving radar line of sight (LOS) displacement time-series and mean LOS velocity. Deformation results showed that the southern, and south-eastern parts of the city had been consistently moving downward with a mean subsidence rate of 24.7 mm/yr, while in western, few small patches in eastern and northern regions it ranges from 2 to 21 mm/yr, 3–20 mm/yr and 4–16 mm/yr respectively. Helmeted hornbills (Rhinoplax vigil, J.R. Forster, 1781) are ‘Critically Endangered’ due to illegal hunting for their casques which are carved and traded for ornamental purposes. DNA species identification techniques can aid enforcement efforts, and validated wildlife forensic techniques for the species identification of R. vigil are needed. Here we tested multiple methods for sampling and extracting DNA from R. vigil casques and a validated a previously published assay using cytochrome B (cytB) primers to identity species and origin of traded casques. Phenol-chloroform: isoamyl alcohol extractions resulted in samples with higher quantity and quality of DNA than those extracted using the commercial Qiagen DNeasy Blood and Tissue kit. Samples collected from the caudal side of the casque yielded higher DNA quantity and quality than rostral and lateral sides, regardless of sampling method. We then assessed the repeatability, reproducibility, robustness, sensitivity, specificity, and phylogenetic resolution of a previously published species identification assay. We confirm the ability of this method to phylogenetically distinguish between R. vigil and closely related hornbills with high bootstrap support (99%). We also report the first genetic evidence of illegally traded R. vigil in Hong Kong using confiscated casques and provide more reference samples of R. vigil for future work. Overall, we provide multiple protocols for sampling and extracting DNA, and a validated species identification assay for amplifying DNA from R. vigil casques with potential to aid law enforcement in illegal wildlife crimes.

Background: /Purposes: Studies have indicated that salivary molecules from patients with periodontitis and diabetes are confounded with pathological conditions associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection. The study aimed to address whether the abundance of Porphyromonas gingivalis which causes periodontitis, differed compared with that of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (used as control) and to analyze the correlation of periodontitis with the expression levels of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 receptor (ACE2) and periodontitis inflammatory markers (TLR-2/TLR-4, TNFα, and miR-155). Materials and Methods: A saliva sample (5 mL) was obtained from 23 hospitalized patients with COVID-19, categorized into two groups: diabetic (G1, n = 10) and non-diabetic (G2, n = 13). Saliva from patients with periodontitis without diabetes and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19; n = 6) were included as control. The present study is focused on assessing the sensitivity of coherent, incoherent, model and Eigen vector-based decomposition techniques from multitemporal Radarsat-2 polarimetric dataset to scattering mechanisms occurring in the critical growth stages of pearl millet crop. Yamaguchi volume component along with its temporal response was observed to be sensitive and reliable due to its dynamic biomass characterization. Overestimation of volume component and earlier saturation of biomass from 4 kgm−2 were observed limitations in Freeman 2 & 3 component decomposition when dealing with higher vegetation crops. The decrease in volume scattering over increasing biomass proved Van Zyl response contrary to the established understanding. Panicle stage was identified as the critical stage for discriminating pearl millet from similar structured maize and sorghum crops. In this stage, alpha angle generated from Cloude-Pottier decomposition almost reached 550 indicating the increase in contribution of dihedral scattering due to vertical prominent panicles in the pearl millet fields. The various Touzi parameters (α1, Ψ1, φ1 and τ1) were observed to have sensitivity towards changes in crop canopy structures, which will require further research to verify. The proposed Δ(F3-Y4) was the most suitable Volume Difference Index (VDI) for characterizing biomass of erectophile crops as the dynamic biomass response was found even beyond 8 kgm−2.

Background: Psychoeducation has emerged as an intervention for women with breast cancer (BC). This meta-analysis evaluated the effectiveness of psychoeducation on adherence to diagnostic procedures and medical treatment, anxiety, depression, quality of life (QoL), and BC knowledge among patients with BC symptoms or diagnosis and BC survivors. Methods: A systematic literature search (in PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO and Cochrane) for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the effects of psychoeducation to control among patients with BC symptoms or diagnosis and BC survivors. Effects were expressed as relative risks (RRs) and standardized mean differences (SMDs) with their 95% confidence intervals. Results: Twenty-seven RCTs (7742 participants; 3880 psychoeducation and 3862 controls) were included. Compared with controls, psychoeducation had no significant effect on adherence to diagnostic procedures and medical treatment (RR 1.553; 95% CI 0.733 to 3.290, p = .16), but it significantly decreased anxiety (SMD -0.710, 95% CI -1.395 to −0.027, p = .04) and improved QoL with (SMD 0.509; 95% CI 0.096 to 0.923, p

Objective: Solobacterium moorei is suggested to be associated with the production of volatile sulphur compounds (VSCs) and can be found in subgingival plaques of deep periodontal pockets. We examined whether this bacterium’s count was reduced in periodontitis patients with halitosis following non-surgical periodontal treatment, while the bacterial count of Prevotella intermedia was measured simultaneously as a control. Material & methods: This clinical study included 20 adults with chronic periodontitis who complained of halitosis. The bacterial relationship in the subgingival plaque sample was measured after 8 weeks post-treatment, including the probing pocket depth (PPD). Quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) was used to measure the proportion of S. moorei, while the concentrations of H2S and CH3SH were determined using oral ChromaTM. Results: The presence of S. moorei was consistently observed in participants with periodontitis before and after non-surgical periodontal treatment and consistent showed a significantly lower proportion compared with P. intermedia. Solobacterium moorei showed a strong positive correlation with H2S and CH3SH concentrations, but a negative correlation with deep periodontal pocket measurements. Conversely, reduced P. intermedia may be more associated with a deep pocket, independent of the concentration of CH3SH. Conclusion: The study data showed that the proportion of S. moorei in the subgingival biofilm can be related to halitosis in periodontitis patients.

In this study, the molecular structures of nicotine and caffeine molecule have been generated using the 6-311++G(d,p) basis set in the DFT/B3LYP method. The molecules were optimized on the same basis set and their minimum stable energy was calculated. The HOMO-LUMO energies were calculated to establish the kinetic stability and chemical reactivity of the chosen compounds. The variation of energy and its gap were closely studied for both nicotine and caffeine in the presence of solvent water as well. Similarly, vibrational spectroscopy was studied at the most prominent region in both gas phase and solvent water with their respective TED assignments. The shifting of frequency clearly indicates the impact of solvent water and isotopic substitution of carbon atoms.
