Resumen: El propósito de este trabajo fue caracterizar las alteraciones orales en un grupo de pacientes COVID-19. Para ello se evaluaron 55 pacientes hospitalizados, confirmados COVID-19 en distintos estadios de severidad. Previo consentimiento informado, se examinó la cavidad oral y se registraron los hallazgos clínicos. El grupo de estudio estuvo conformado por 25 mujeres (45,5%) y 30 varones (54,5%), con edades comprendidas entre uno y 89 años. Un 40% de los pacientes mostraron alguna lesión bucal. Las lesiones más comunes fueron candidiasis y ulceraciones (7 pacientes cada uno) y en 2 pacientes se observó enantema. También se encontraron alteraciones de la normalidad como glositis migratoria y varicosidades linguales. Asimismo, se registraron alteraciones del gusto, xerostomía y dolor/ardor bucal en el 60, 27,3 y 36,4%, respectivamente. En los pacientes COVID-19 se observaron con frecuencia alteraciones y lesiones en la mucosa bucal. Finalmente, la disgeusia y el dolor y/o el ardor oral fueron los síntomas comunes en estos pacientes. Abstract: The aim of this study was to describe oral lesions in a group of patients with COVID-19. Altered taste, dry mouth, and painful/burning mouth were noted in 60%, 27.3%, and 36.4% of patients, respectively. Oral mucosal alterations and lesions were prevalent in this series of COVID-19 patients. Altered taste and a painful/burning mouth were common symptoms.

Background: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a metabolic disorder characterized by recurrent hypo- and hyperglycemic episodes, whose clinical development has been associated with cognitive and working memory (WM) deficits., Objective: To contrast quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG) measures between young patients with T1D and healthy controls while performing a visuospatial WM task with two memory load levels and facial emotional stimuli., Methods: Four or five neutral or happy faces were sequentially and pseudo-randomly presented in different spatial locations, followed by subsequent sequences displaying the reversed spatial order or any other. Participants were instructed to discriminate between these two alternatives during EEG recording., Results: A significant increase in the absolute power of the delta and theta bands, distributed mainly over the frontal region was found during task execution, with a slight decrease of alpha band power in both groups but mainly in control individuals. However, these changes were more pronounced in the T1D patients, and reached their maximum level during the WM encoding phase, even on trials with the lower memory load. In contrast, changes seemed to occur more gradually in controls and results differed significantly only on the trials with the higher WM load., Conclusions: These results reflect adaptive WM-processing mechanisms in which cognitive strategies have evolved in T1D patients in order to meet task demands., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Masson SAS. (Z)-2-(2-formamido-4-thiazolyl)-2-(substituted alkoxyimino) acetic acids were synthesized by a new method based on the following sequence of reactions: treatment of the tert-butyl acetoacetate with sodium nitrite, alkylation of the oxime formed with an appropriate alkyl halide, halogenation of methyl alpha-keto group and simultaneous cleavage of tert-butyl ester with sulfuryl chloride, protection of the obtained acid function with diphenyldiazomethane, formation of the 2-aminothiazole ring by the Hantzsch method with thiourea, formylation of the amino group and selective final cleavage of the diphenylmethyl ester by treatment with trifluoroacetic acid and anisol. The developed procedure allows the synthesis of (Z)-2-(2-formamido-4-thiazolyl)-2-(substituted alkoxyimino) acetic acids, with an ester function in the alkoxyimino group employing a simple method and obtaining higher yields in comparison with the habitually used classic method.

Cold water extraction of the red alga Gracilaria dominguensis, followed by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide fractionation, gave a highly sulfated, agar-type polysaccharide which inhibited the transplantation of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma in mice. The structure of the polysaccharide has been investigated by methylation analysis, and 1H- and 13C-n.m.r. spectroscopy, and was shown to be mainly composed of alternating (1----3)-linked beta-D-galactopyranosyl 6-sulfate and (1----4)-linked 3,6-anhydro-alpha-L-galactopyranosyl residues.
