This article focuses on a thorough review of the utilisation of the wavelet transform in the analysis of durability and structural health monitoring in automotive components. The evolving trend in research in automotive engineering structural integrity analysis has shifted from traditional laboratory experiments to a focus on signal processing and simulation-based methodologies over the past 30 years. This shift has motivated researchers to explore the application of the wavelet transform for signal processing in the analysis of structural integrity. The study is divided into five sections: the first section provides an introduction to durability analysis in automotive applications and highlights the advancement of research trends. The following section discusses the time and frequency domain signal processing approaches and their limitations. Next, the third section provides the theoretical background of the wavelet transform, including the continuous and discrete wavelet transforms. The fourth section emphasises the applications of wavelet transform as a signal processing tool in the durability and structural health monitoring of automotive components. Lastly, the summary highlights the importance of wavelet transform as a signal processing tool in automotive applications.
