Abstract

International audience; Excited states in the mirror nuclei 31P and 31S were populated in the 1p and 1n exit channels of the reaction 20Ne + 12C, at a beam energy of 33 MeV. The 20Ne beam was delivered for the first time by the Piave-Alpi accelerator of the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. Angular correlations of coincident γ-rays and Doppler-shift attenuation lifetime measurements were performed using the multi-detector array GASP in conjunction with the EUCLIDES charged particle detector. In the observed B(E1) strengths, the isoscalar component, amounting to 24% of the isovector one, provides strong evidence for breaking of the isospin symmetry in the A=31 mass region. Self-consistent beyond mean field calculations using Equation of Motion method based on a chiral potential and including two- and three-body forces reproduce well the experimental B(E1) strengths, reinforcing our conclusion. Coherent mixing from higher-lying states involving the Giant Isovector Monopole Resonance accounts well for the effect observed. The breaking of the isospin symmetry originates from the violation of the charge symmetry of the two- and three-body parts of the potential, only related to the Coulomb interaction.

Abstract

Three nearly degenerate pairs of doublet bands are identified in $^{131}$Ba. Two of them, with positive-parity, are interpreted as pseudospin-chiral quartet bands. This is the first time that a complete set of chiral doublet bands built on the pseudospin partners π(d5/2,g7/2) is observed. The chiral bands with opposite parity built on 3-quasiparticle configurations are directly connected by many E1 transitions, without involving an intermediary non-chiral configuration. The observed band structures in $^{131}$Ba have been investigated by using the reflection-asymmetric particle rotor model. The energies and the electromagnetic transition ratios of the three pairs of doublet bands observed in $^{131}$Ba are reproduced and they are interpreted as chiral doublet bands with three-quasiparticle configurations. It is the first time that multiple chiral bands are observed in the presence of enhanced octupole correlations and pseudospin symmetry.

Abstract

The lifetimes of the low-lying excited states 2(+) and 4(+) have been directly measured in the neutron-deficient Sn-106,Sn-108 isotopes. the nuclei were populated via a deep-inelastic reaction and the lifetime measurement was performed employing a differential plunger device. the emitted gamma rays were detected by the AGATA array, while the reaction products were uniquely identified by the VAMOS++ magnetic spectrometer. Large-Scale Shell-Model calculations with realistic forces indicate that, independently of the pairing content of the interaction, the quadrupole force is dominant in the B(E2; 2(1)(+) -> 0(g.s)(+)) values and it describes well the experimental pattern for Sn104-114 ; the B(E2;(+)(4) -> 2(1)(+)) values, measured here for the first time, depend critically on a delicate pairing-quadrupole balance, disclosed by the very precise results in Sn-108. Abstract

The gamma-ray decay of excited states of the one-valence-proton nucleus Sb-133 has been studied using cold-neutron induced fission of U-235 and Pu-241 targets, during the EXILL campaign at the ILL reactor in Grenoble. By using a highly efficient HPGe array, coincidences between gamma-rays prompt with the fission event and those delayed up to several tens of microseconds were investigated, allowing to observe, for the first time, high-spin excited states above the 16.6 mu s isomer. Lifetimes analysis, performed by fast-timing techniques with LaBr3(Ce) scintillators, revealed a difference of almost two orders of magnitude in B(M1) strength for transitions between positive-parity medium-spin yrast states. The data are interpreted by a newly developed microscopic model which takes into account couplings between core excitations (both collective and non-collective) of the doubly magic nucleus Sn-132 and the valence proton, using Skyrme effective interaction in a consistent way. The results point to a fast change in the nature of particle-core excitations with increasing spin. (C) 2016 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. Abstract

WOS: 000295765100014, The first implementation of the AGATA spectrometer consisting of five triple germanium detector clusters has been installed at Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro, INFN. This setup has two major goals, the first one is to validate the gamma-tracking concept and the second is to perform an experimental physics program using the stable beams delivered by the Tandem-PIAVE-ALPI accelerator complex. A large variety of physics topics will be addressed during this campaign, aiming to investigate both neutron and proton-rich nuclei. The setup has been designed to be coupled with the large-acceptance magnetic-spectrometer PRISMA. Therefore, the in-beam prompt gamma rays detected with AGATA will be measured in coincidence with the products of multinucleon-transfer and deep-inelastic reactions measured by PRISMA. Moreover, the setup is versatile enough to host ancillary detectors, including the heavy-ion detector DANTE, the gamma-ray detector array HELENA, the Cologne plunger for lifetime measurements and the Si-pad telescope TRACE. In this paper the design; characteristics and performance figures of the setup will be described.

Abstract

Isomeric ratios have been measured for high-spin states in Po-198,200,206,208(84), At-208,209,210,211(85), Rn-210,211,212,213,214(86), Fr-208,211,212,213,214(87), Ra-210,211,212,214,215(88), and Ac-215(89) following the projectile fragmentation of a 1 AGeV U-238 beam by a Be-9 target at GSI Helmholtzzentrum fur Schwerionenforschung. The fragments were separated in the fragment separator (FRS) and identified by means of energy loss and time-of-flight techniques. They were brought to rest at the centre of the RISING gamma-ray detector array and intensities of gamma rays emitted in the decay of isomeric states with half-lives between 100 ns and 40 mu s and spin values up to 55/2 (h) over bar were used to obtain the corresponding isomeric ratios. The data are compared to theoretical isomeric ratios calculated in the framework of the abrasion-ablation model. Large experimental enhancements are obtained for high-spin isomers in comparison to expected values. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract

Neutron-rich nuclei in the lead region, beyond N = 126, have been studied at the FRS-RISING setup at GSI, exploiting the fragmentation of a primary uranium beam. Two isomeric states have been identified in Hg-210: the 8(+) isomer expected from the seniority scheme in the vg(9/2) shell and a second one at low spin and low excitation energy. The decay strength of the 8(+) isomer confirms the need of effective three-body forces in the case of neutron-rich lead isotopes. The other unexpected low-lying isomer has been tentatively assigned as a 3(-) state, although this is in contrast with theoretical expectations. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract

WOS: 000290082600015, The interaction position resolution of the segmented HPGe detectors of an AGATA triple cluster detector has been studied through Monte Carlo simulations and in an in-beam experiment. A new method based on measuring the energy resolution of Doppler-corrected gamma-ray spectra at two different target to detector distances is described. This gives the two-dimensional position resolution in the plane perpendicular to the direction of the emitted gamma-ray. The gamma-ray tracking was used to determine the full energy of the gamma-rays and the first interaction point, which is needed for the Doppler correction. Five different heavy-ion induced fusion-evaporation reactions and a reference reaction were selected for the simulations. 9. Dynamical deformation of nuclei in deep-inelastic collisions: A gamma coincidence study of 130Te+275 MeV 64Ni and 208Pb+345 MeV 58Ni heavy ion reactions

Abstract

Products of 130Te + 275 MeV 64Ni and 208Pb + 345 MeV 58Ni collisions at energies slightly above the Coulomb barrier have been studied in two gamma spectroscopy thick target experiments. The product yield distributions have been established from the γ – γ coincidence analysis supplemented by target radioactivity measurements. Neutron evaporation from excited primary products has been estimated to determine the pre-emission maps of fragments. The transfer of protons and neutrons between the colliding ions is discussed in terms of the N / Z ratio equilibration. The discussion of experimental N / Z values compared with expectations based on potential energy minimizations leads to conclusion that the involved nuclei are dynamically deformed during the crucial interaction time. These results are discussed in connection with the earlier published study of the 208Pb + 350 MeV 64Ni system [1] . The present and perspective use of deep-inelastic reactions for spectroscopic studies of exotic neutron-rich nuclei in experiments with stable and radioactive beams is outlined.

Abstract

The nuclei Y-85 and Y-86 (were studied in two series of experiments conducted by using the heavy-ion reactions Ge-76(N-14, 4n)Y-86 and Cr-52(Cl-37, 2pxn)Y-85,Y-86. The analysis of double and triple coincidences of gamma rays along with the investigation of angular distributions led to the extension of the level schemes of the Y-85 and Y-86 nuclei to spins and excitation energies higher than observed in previous experiments. In addition, a few new levels with low spins and excitation energies were identified in both nuclei. fit order to better understand the nuclear structure of these isotopes. shell-model calculations were carried out considering a valence space formed by the proton and neutron orbitals f5/2, p3/2, P1/2, and g9/2., This work was partially supported by the Romanian National Authority for Scientific Research under the contracts No. ID-117/2007 and ID-362/2007 and by the European Community FP6 under contract EURONS No. RII3-CT-2004-506065. Abstract

High-spin structures in 136Nd have been investigated via the 110Pd(30Si,4n) reaction at 125 MeV using the GASP array. Several bands consisting of stretched quadrupole transitions were identified. Two of them reach spins comparable to those of the highly-deformed (HD) band in 136Nd, which is based on a neutron i 13 2 - h 9 2 f 7 2 configuration. Total routhian surface (TRS) calculations indicate that regular high-spin excitations in this γ-soft nucleus, can be also generated through successive pairs of h 11 2 protons and neutrons coupled to a stable small-deformation triaxial core. The previously reported γ-ray transitions of an excited HD band, identical to the yrast HD band, are not confirmed by our data.

12. Lifetimes of a shears band in 139Sm

Abstract

Lifetimes have been measured in 139Sm with the DSAM method, using the reaction 62Ni(81Br,p3n)139Sm at 350 MeV. In the negative-parity regular dipole band based on the 25 2 − state at 3325 keV values of 0.60(21), 0.40(14) and 0.25(8) ps were found for the 337, 409 and 473 keV transitions, respectively. The deduced B(M1) and B(E2) are in agreement with the predictions of the tilted axis cranking model, allowing a triaxial equilibrium shape for the assumed νh 11 2 ⊗ πh 11 2 2 configuration.

Abstract

The nuclear structure of 145Gd has been investigated via the 114Cd(36S,5n) reaction. Three superdeformed bands have been discovered, consisting of 17, 16 and 10 transitions, respectively. The first excited superdeformed band shows two band crossings which are assigned to the subsequent alignment of an i 13 2 proton pair and a crossing of the i 13 2 and i 11 2 neutron orbitals, respectively. Such a double band crossing has been observed for the first time. The second excited superdeformed band is assigned as the signature partner of the previous band but shows no band crossing in the observed frequency range. The band crossing behaviour of the SD bands has been described theoretically.

Abstract

Transitions linking the highly deformed band to low deformation states have been unambiguously established in 133 Nd in the very first experiment performed with the GASP array. the highly deformed band becomes yrast at 29 2 + , where it mixes with the positive parity band built upon the [404] 7 2 Nilsson state. The experimentally deduced interaction amounts to 13 keV. The measurement of the spins in the highly deformed intruder band sheds some light upon the reported backbend anomaly in this mass region.
