Background and Aims: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) ranges from Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver (MASL) to Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) with fibrosis. Activation of Hepatic Stellate Cells (HSCs) into fibrogenic myofibroblasts plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of MASH liver fibrosis. We compared transcriptome and chromatin accessibility of human HSCs from NORMAL, MASL, and MASH livers at single cell resolution. We aimed to identify genes that are upregulated in activated HSCs and to determine which of these genes are key in the pathogenesis of MASH fibrosis., Methods: 18 human livers were profiled using single-nucleus (sn)RNA-seq and snATAC-seq. High priority targets were identified, then tested in 2D human HSC cultures, 3D human liver spheroids, and HSC-specific gene knockout mice., Results: MASH-enriched activated (A) HSC subclusters are the major source of extracellular matrix proteins. We identified a set of concurrently upregulated and more accessible core genes (GAS7, SPON1, SERPINE1, LTBP2, KLF9, EFEMP1) that drive activation of (A) HSC subclusters. Expression of these genes was regulated via crosstalk between lineage-specific (JUNB/AP1), cluster-specific (RUNX1/2) and signal-specific (FOXA1/2) transcription factors. The pathological relevance of the selected targets, such as SERPINE1 (PAI-1), was demonstrated using dsiRNA-based HSC-specific gene knockdown or pharmacological inhibition of PAI-1 in 3D human MASH liver spheroids, and HSC-specific Serpine1 knockout mice., Conclusion: This study identified novel gene targets and regulatory mechanisms underlying activation of MASH fibrogenic HSCs and demonstrated that genetic or pharmacological inhibition of select genes suppressed liver fibrosis., Impact and Implications: Here we present snRNA-seq and snATAC-seq analysis of human HSCs from NORMAL, MASL, and MASH livers. Molecular pathology, such as high-throughput genomic and proteomic profiling, identifies precise disease targets from biopsies but require tissue dissociation, losing valuable histologic and spatial context. Emerging spatial multi-omic technologies now enable multiplexed visualization of genomic, proteomic, and epigenomic targets within a single tissue slice, eliminating the need for labeling multiple adjacent slices. Although early work focused on RNA (spatial transcriptomics), spatial technologies can now concurrently capture DNA, genome accessibility, histone modifications, and proteins with spatially-resolved single-cell resolution. This review outlines the principles, advantages, limitations, and potential for spatial technologies to advance dermatologic research. Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture combined with five-element music (FEM) as an therapeutic strategy for the physical and mental state of Post-stroke depression patients., Design and Setting: Multicenter, randomized clinical trial conducted at 3 hospitals in China and enrolling 237 patients with PSD between June 2019 and April 2021. Participants mild/moderate PSD (17-item GRID Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) score 7-24) were randomly assigned (1:1) to acupuncture combined with FEM (AFEM) group or cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) group., Main Outcome Measures: The primary outcome was change and differences between the groups in HAMD-17 from baseline to week 12. Secondary outcomes included Fugl-Meyer Assessment Scale score and Stroke-Specific Quality of Life Scale (SS-QOL) score., Results: The 237 patients in this intention-to-treat analysis were randomized into either the AFEM group (n=119) or the cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) group (n=118). Of these 237 participants, 225 (94.9 %) completed all outcome measurements at week 12. The AFEM and CBT groups both showed significant improvement in HAMD-17 from baseline to week 12. Patients in the AFEM group had significantly lower HAMD-17 scores of -3.56 at week 8 (95 % CI,-4.59 to -2.53; p <.001) and -3.50 at week 12 (95 % CI,-4.53 to -2.46; p<.001) than patients in the CBT group. The SS-QOL score improved significantly at week 12. The Fugl-Meyer score was significantly lower in the AFEM group than in the CBT group at week 4, but this difference was not statistically significant upon follow-up at weeks 8 and 12. Flexible chitosan-based membranes were prepared by casting/solvent evaporation method using chitosan flocks as raw material. To improve mechanical and biological properties, chitosan microspheres (CMs) were prepared and integrated to form the composite membranes. Two different anti-bacterial drugs, e.g., tetracycline hydrochloride (TH) and silver sulfadiazine (AgSD), were loaded into the CMs and composite membranes to enhance their anti-bacterial properties. Furthermore, composite membranes were alternately coated by multi-layers of oxidized alginate (OAlg) and carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) via the layer-by-layer self-assembly and Schiff-base cross-linking. Our results demonstrated that the microspheres and multi-layer coatings could improve the swelling, water vapor transmission and hydrophilicity of the composite membranes. The chitosan microspheres and multi-layer coatings increased the tensile strength and decreased the elongation at the break of the membranes. Our composite membrane had better mechanical properties, slow drug release, anti-bacterial properties, which could promote cell proliferation. Purpose: The current study aimed to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 booster vaccine on menstrual cycle characteristics in adolescent girls (aged 13-20) compared to those who did not receive a booster vaccine., Methods: This prospective study measured menstrual cycle length for three cycles prior to and four cycles after vaccination (booster group), seven cycles without vaccination (control group). Menstrual flow, menstrual pain, and menstrual symptoms were assessed at baseline and monthly for 3 months. Stress was assessed at baseline using the PROMIS Pediatric Psychological Stress Experiences scale. Generalized linear mixed effects models were used to examine the changes in menstrual characteristics., Results: 65 adolescent girls (47 booster; 18 control) were recruited via social media and from ongoing studies in the United States. Girls in the booster group experienced shorter postbooster cycles by an average 5.35 days (p = .03) compared to prebooster cycle lengths, specifically in the second postbooster cycle, while the control group did not show any changes in cycle length pre-to postbooster. Participants who received the booster in the follicular phase had shorter mean postbooster cycle length (p = .0157) compared to their prebooster cycle length. Higher stress was associated with shorter cycles (p = .03) and increased menstrual symptoms (p = <.001), regardless of group. There were no differences in menstrual flow, menstrual pain, or menstrual symptoms in either group., Discussion: The COVID-19 booster vaccine was associated with shorter cycles in adolescent girls. As a typical high geological background area in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River tributary basin in China, the Loushao Basin in Hunan is covered with high mineral black shale, with an average element value 4.76-8.97 times higher than the world average rock level. The aim of this study is to analyze the water environment pollution in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River tributary basin under high geological background based on the spatial distribution differences of black shale concentration. PCA source analysis is used to track the source of pollution and highlight the differences in body shape to assess regional health risks. The research results show that Cd in water quality exceeds the background value by 7.5 times. There is a strong homology among Pb, Cd, Cr, As, and Hg elements in water bodies, mainly derived from the natural weathering, migration, and enrichment of rocks. Hg element is a pollution caused by human factors, and water pollution is more severe in areas close to high concentrations, with severe exceedance of Cr element in water quality. Low-cost sensor networks offer the potential to reduce monitoring costs while providing high-resolution spatiotemporal data on pollutant levels. However, these sensors come with limitations, and many aspects of their field performance remain underexplored. During October to December 2023, this study deployed two identical low-cost sensor systems near an urban standard monitoring station to record PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations, along with environmental temperature and humidity. Our evaluation of the monitoring performance of these sensors revealed a broad data distribution with a systematic overestimation; this overestimation was more pronounced in PM10 readings. The sensors showed good consistency (R 2  > 0.9, NRMSE<5 %), and normalization residuals were tracked to assess stability, which, despite occasional environmental influences, remained generally stable. A lateral comparison of four calibration models (MLR, SVR, RF, XGBoost) demonstrated superior performance of RF and XGBoost over others, particularly with RF showing enhanced effectiveness on the test set. SHAP analysis identified sensor readings as the most critical variable, underscoring their pivotal role in predictive modeling. Relative humidity consistently proved more significant than dew point and temperature, with higher RH levels typically having a positive impact on model outputs. The oil sludge produced while extracting large oil and gas fields in the middle and high latitude regions has caused serious pollution to the surrounding soil. The key to solving this problem in the future is to unify the remediation of soil and the treatment of oil sludge. This study uses supercritical carbon dioxide(scCO 2 ) technology to construct a low-carbon method, providing a new approach to achieve this goal. The study determines the optimal extraction conditions for black calcareous soil with 15% oil content to be 55 °C, 25 MPa, and 90 min through single factor and response surface experiments. Experiments on the scCO 2 extraction coupled with freeze-thaw cycles show that oil sludge with a water content of 10% can improve the extraction efficiency of scCO 2 by about 2.69% after less than five freeze-thaw cycles. The study also compares the extraction efficiency of the four soils, with a difference of 6.03% observed under the same conditions. Additionally, we analyze the impact of the extraction process on changes in the properties of the oil and soil in the oil sludge. Comprehensive tests, including scanning electron microscope (SEM), nutrient detection, X-ray powder diffractometer (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Gas Chromatography (GC), have been conducted. Results show that standalone scCO 2 extraction can remove up to 98.2% of petroleum hydrocarbons from the oil sludge, while simultaneously causing small changes to the soil microstructure and the crystal structure of the oil sludge. Neonicotinoids (NEOs), despite their widespread use as insecticides, exhibit a notable knowledge deficit in regards to their presence in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and their surrounding environments. This study delves into the presence and disposition of 5 NEOs: Thiamethoxam (THM), Clothianidin (CLO), Imidacloprid (IMD), Acetamiprid (ACE), and Thiacloprid (THA) across 3 domestic WWTPs and their receiving waters. Notably, THM, CLO, and ACE were consistently detected in all water and sludge samples, with THM emerging as the most abundant compound in both influent and effluent. Among the 3 WWTPs, WWTP 2, employing a fine bubble oxidation process, achieved the highest removal efficiency, surpassing 68%, in contrast to WWTP 1 (CAST) at 37% and WWTP 3 (A/A/O) at 7%. Biodegradation played a pivotal role in NEO removal, accounting for 36.7% and 68.2% of the total removal in WWTP 1 and WWTP 2, respectively. Surprisingly, in WWTP 3, biotransformation process inadvertently increased ACE and CLO concentrations by approximately 4.1% and 4.5%, respectively. The total NEO concentration in the receiving surface waters ranged from 72.7 to 155.5 ng/L, while sediment concentrations were significantly lower, spanning between 0.10 and 1.53 ng/g. WWTPs serve as both a removal and concentration point for NEOs, thereby significantly influencing their transportation. Additionally, the concentration of most NEOs in the receiving waters progressively increased from upstream to downstream, highlighting the substantial impact of WWTP discharges on natural water environments. During the process of black shale weathering, multiple heavy metal elements are concentrated in the soil, causing pollution. This study selected soil and black shale bedrock samples from high geological background areas to investigate the control of heavy metal element pollution by bedrock using spatial analysis. The research results indicate that the heavy metal content in black shale bedrock is extremely high, ranging from 2.3 to 13.1 times the background values of rock heavy metal elements. The heavy metal content in the soil formed through weathering is positively correlated with the bedrock, ranging from 1.1 to 21.3 times the background values. The coefficient of variation of rock samples ranges from 1.09 to 7.18, indicating significant variability.The analysis reveals that the control ability of pure rock over heavy metal elements is mainly moderate and high, accounting for over 70 %, with d being the most affected metal element. Except for As, the other seven elements exhibit strong spatial autocorrelation, showing distinct regional distribution characteristics. Straw incorporation holds significant promise for enhancing soil fertility and mitigating air pollution stemming from straw burning. However, this practice concurrently elevates the production and emission of methane (CH 4 ) from paddy ecosystems. Despite its environmental impact, the precise mechanisms behind the heightened CH 4 production resulting from long-term straw incorporation remain elusive. In a 32-year field experiment featuring three fertilization treatments (CFS-chemical fertilizer with wheat straw, CF-chemical fertilizer, and CK-unamended), we investigated the impact of abiotic (soil physicochemical properties) and biotic (methanogenic abundance, diversity, and community composition) factors on CH 4 production in paddy fields. Results revealed a significantly higher CH 4 production potential under CFS treatment compared to CF and CK treatments. The partial least squares path model revealed that soil physicochemical properties (path coefficient = 0.61), methanogenic diversity (path coefficient = -0.43), and methanogenic abundance (path coefficient = 0.29) collectively determined CH 4 production potential, explaining 77% of the variance. Enhanced soil organic carbon content and water content, resulting from straw incorporation, emerged as pivotal factors positively correlated with CH 4 production potential. Under CFS treatment, lower Shannon index of methanogens, compared to CF and CK treatments, was attributed to increased Methanosarcina. Notably, the Shannon index and relative abundance of Methanosarcina exhibited negative and positive correlations with CH 4 production potential, respectively. Methanogenic abundance, bolstered by straw incorporation, significantly amplified overall potential. Objectives: Recent research indicated that fungi might have a role in periodontitis alongside traditional periodontal pathogens. This state-of-the-art narrative review explores current concepts on the involvement of Candida species in periodontitis, and suggests the potential for ecological management of this disease., Data, Sources and Study Selection: A literature search was conducted for a narrative review on Web of Science, PubMed, Medline and Scopus about periodontitis associated with Candida species. Published articles, including case reports, case series, observational and interventional clinical trials, and critical appraisals of the literature were retrieved and reviewed., Conclusions: Several factors predispose individuals to periodontitis associated with Candida species. These include systemic diseases that lead to immunosuppression and oral environment changes such as cigarette smoking. While a consistent significant increase in the detection rate of Candida species in patients with periodontitis has not been universally observed, there is evidence linking Candida species to the severity of periodontitis and their potential to worsen the condition. Candida species may participate in the development of periodontitis in various ways, including cross-kingdom interactions with periodontal pathogens, changes in the local or systemic environment favoring the virulence of Candida species, and interactions between Candida-bacteria and host immunity., Clinical Significance: Mechanical plaque control is the most common treatment for periodontitis, but its effectiveness may be limited, particularly when dealing with systemic risk factors. The trace amount of water in organic solvents can affect the progress of chemical reactions, which will adversely affect chemical production in many industries, resulting in a doubling of costs. In this work, carbon dots (CDs) with abundant polar groups were synthesized by a simple one-step hydrothermal method. The prepared CDs showed superior dispersibility and fluorescence performance compared to the CDs that have been reported for the detection of water content in organic solvents. It can realize the fluorescence detection of trace water in several water-soluble organic solvents such as N,N-dimethylformamide, ethanol and methanol with wide linear range (0 %-100 %) and high sensitivity. The geological environment determines the initial content of various elements in soil, while the late input of toxic elements produced through weathering and leaching is a persistent threat to food security and human health. In this study, we selected the Lou Shao Basin, a black rock system background, and combined geostatistical analysis and multivariate statistics to quantify the specific contribution of weathering of the black rock system, and to analyze the source traces, spatial distributions, and ecological risks of the soil toxicity of elements. The results show that the soils in the study area are acidic, which is related to the weathering of sulfides in the black rock system. The concentrations of most elements in the soil were determined to exceed the soil background values, and the Cd, Se and N contents, exceeded more than five times, especially Se, Mo nearly as high as 13 times. Strong positive correlation between Se, Cu, V and P, low correlation between N and Se, Cu, V, P, Ni and Cd.72.52%, 43%, 77.79%, 82%, 77%, and 44.1% of Cd, Se, Ni, Cu, B, and Mo came from the black rock system, respectively, which were greatly affected by geogenic weathering; V, Zn, Pb, and As are mainly from biomass burning sources; N and P are mainly from agricultural surface sources. Comparison found that the Cd and Se elements in the rocks in the study area were 16.78 times and 1.36 times higher than the world shale average, respectively, and need to pay attention to the weathering process of the two, and the spatial distribution of the 12 elements in soils showed a striped and centralized block distribution pattern, specifically around the distribution of carbonate and metamorphic rocks and other high-geology blocks. The ecological risk results showed that Cd was the main element causing high ecological risk, followed by Se and N, which were at moderate to high ecological risk levels, and Se and N showed similar ecological risk patterns, which may be related to the fact that selenium can promote the uptake and transformation of nitrogen. Bombus terrestris are efficient pollinators in forestry and agriculture, with higher cold tolerance than other bees. Yet, their cold tolerance mechanism remains unclear. Aquaporins (AQPs) function as cell membrane proteins facilitating rapid water flow, aiding in osmoregulation. Recent studies highlight the importance of insect AQPs in dehydration and cold stress. Comparative transcriptome analysis of B. terrestris under cold stress revealed up-regulation of four AQPs, indicating their potential role in cold tolerance. Seven AQPs-Eglp1, Eglp2, Eglp3, DRIP, PRIP, Bib, and AQP12L-have been identified in B. terrestris. These are widely expressed in various tissues, particularly in the alimentary canal and Malpighian tubules. Functional analysis of BterAQPs in the Xenopus laevis oocytes expressing system showed distinct water and glycerol selectivity, with BterDrip exhibiting the highest water permeability. Molecular modeling of BterDrip revealed six transmembrane domains, two NPA motifs, and an ar/R constriction region (Phe131, His256, Ser265, and Arg271), likely contributing to its water selectivity. Objective: To investigate the short-term efficacy and safety of induction chemotherapy (IC) combined with anti-PD-1 immunotherapy in locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LA-NPC)., Methods: A total of 217 patients diagnosed with LA-NPC at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, including 67 who received IC combined with anti-PD-1 and 150 who received IC, were retrospectively enrolled. Efficacy was evaluated at the end of the IC cycles and one month after radiotherapy based on RECIST v1.1 criteria. Acute toxicities were graded based on the CTCAE v5.0 criteria. Quantitative variables were compared by unpaired t-tests, and categorical variables were evaluated by Fisher Freeman-Halton test or Pearson Chi-square test., Results: At the end of all induction therapy cycles, the objective response rate (ORR) of the IC + anti-PD-1 group was 88.1 % (59/67) as opposed to 70.0 % (105/150) in the IC group. Subgroup analysis showed that patients in both stage Ⅲ and ⅣA achieved a significant improvement in ORR with the inclusion of anti-PD-1 therapy. Patients with T3-4 or N2-3 category appeared to benefit more from anti-PD-1 compared to patients with T1-2 or N0-1 category. However, neither ORR nor the complete response (CR) rate was significantly different between the two treatment groups one month after the end of radiotherapy. Although peroxidase-like nano-enzymes have been widely utilized in biosensors, nano-enzyme based biosensors are seldom used for both quantitative analysis of H 2 O 2 and differentiation of isomers of organic compounds simultaneously. In this study, a dual-functional mimetic enzyme-based fluorescent sensor was constructed using metal-organic frameworks (Bi-MOFs) with exceptional oxidase activity and fluorescence properties. This mimetic enzyme sensor facilitated quantitative analysis of H 2 O 2 and accurate discrimination of phenylenediamine isomers. The sensor exhibited a wide linear range (0.5-400 μM) and low detection limit (0.16 μM) for the detection of H 2 O 2 . Moreover, the sensor can also be used for the discrimination of phenylenediamine isomers, in which the presence of o-phenylenediamine (OPD) leads to the appearance of a new fluorescence emission peak at 555 nm, while the presence of p-phenylenediamine (PPD) significantly quenched its fluorescence due to the internal filtration effect. Background: High-eyelid fold is a common complication of upper eyelid surgery. This study proposed a novel technique for correcting high-eyelid fold in Asian patients with little eyelid skin and thick orbital fascia to improve cosmetic outcomes and patient satisfaction., Methods: We retrospectively analysed the clinical data of 38 patients with high-eyelid fold repaired at the Plastic Surgery Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, from July 2017 to April 2022. All patients were treated using this method of preserving the high-eyelid fold and reconstructing the subcutaneous orbital fascia. Postoperative outcomes were reviewed and analysed using objective measures and subjective surgeon and patient evaluations., Results: Thirty-eight patients (71 eyes) were included. Postoperative follow-up was for 6-25 months. At 6 months postoperatively, the mean anatomic crease height decreased from 10.45 mm to 6.22 mm, mean pretarsal show decreased from 3.20 mm to 1.61 mm, and mean margin reflex distance in 1 of the 31 patients with ptosis increased from 2.93 mm to 3.87 mm (P < 0.001). The compliance rate between the surgeon's assessment and patient satisfaction was 89.5%, with 31 cases considered good by both the surgeon and patient and one case considered poor by both (undercorrected ptosis), though a satisfactory result was achieved after reoperation. Objectives: The popularity of contracted family doctor services in China has been growing in recent years, but community-family-doctor-based type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) intervention programs have yet to be adequately studied. This study was to evaluate the short- and long-term effects of community-family-doctor-based self-management interventions for T2DM and to explore strategies for long-term glycemic control., Study Design: This was a randomized controlled trial., Methods: A total of 144 eligible participants were randomly assigned to intervention and control groups. The control group received only routine community diabetes care, and the intervention group received community-family-doctor-based interventions involving the same standard of care. The interventions lasted for 3 months, and the follow-up was continued for 15 months. Intention-to-treat analysis and generalized estimation equations were then used to determine the short- and long-term effects of the interventions on glycated hemoglobin (HbA 1c ), diabetes self-management, and medication adherence., Results: There were statistically significantly greater improvements in all aspects of the intervention group after 3 months of intervention. Compared with baseline, changes in the attitude (β = 0.384, 95% confidence interval [CI; 0.194, 0.574], P < 0.001), practice (β = 1.751, 95% CI [0.762, 2.739], P = 0.001), and knowledge, attitudes, practice total scores (β = 2.338, 95% CI [0.682, 3.995], P = 0.006) of patients in the intervention group were statistically significant after 15 months, and the HbA 1c (8.19 ± 1.73%), knowledge (16.42 ± 3.21), and medication adherence (5.53 ± 1.76) scores were slightly better than those at baseline, although not statistically significant (P > 0.05)., Conclusions: T2DM self-management interventions based on community family doctors improved patients' HbA 1c , diabetes self-management, and medication adherence, did not do so significantly in the long term., (Copyright © 2024 The Royal Society for Public Health. Microplastics (MPs), which are prevalent and increasingly accumulating in aquatic environments. Other pollutants coexist with MPs in the water, such as pesticides, and may be carried or transferred to aquatic organisms, posing unpredictable ecological risks. This study sought to assess the adsorption of lambda-cyhalothrin (LCT) by virgin and aged polyethylene MPs (VPE and APE, respectively), and to examine their influence on LCT's toxicity in zebrafish, specifically regarding acute toxicity, oxidative stress, gut microbiota and immunity. The adsorption results showed that VPE and APE could adsorb LCT, with adsorption capacities of 34.4 mg∙g -1 and 39.0 mg∙g -1 , respectively. Compared with LCT exposure alone, VPE and APE increased the acute toxicity of LCT to zebrafish. Additionally, exposure to LCT and PE-MPs alone can induce oxidative stress in the zebrafish gut, while combined exposure can exacerbate the oxidative stress response and intensify intestinal lipid peroxidation. Moreover, exposure to LCT or PE-MPs alone promotes inflammation, and combined exposure leads to downregulation of the myd88-nf-κb related gene expression, thus impacting intestinal immunity. Furthermore, exposure to APE increased LCT toxicity to zebrafish more than VPE. Meanwhile, exposure to PE-MPs and LCT alone or in combination has the potential to affect gut microbiota function and alter the abundance and diversity of the zebrafish gut flora. Collectively, the presence of PE-MPs may affect the toxicity of pesticides in zebrafish. Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are chronic inflammatory conditions characterized by disruptions in the colonic mucus barrier and gut microbiota. In this study, a novel soluble polysaccharide obtained from Boletus aereus (BAP) through water extraction was examined for its structure. The protective effects of BAP on colitis were investigated using a DSS-induced mice model. BAP was found to promote the expression of intestinal mucosal and tight junction proteins, restore the compromised mucus barrier, and suppress the activation of inflammatory signaling. Moreover, BAP reshape the gut microbiota and had a positive impact on the composition of the gut microbiota by reducing inflammation-related microbes. Additionally, BAP decreased cytokine levels through the MANF-BATF2 signaling pathway. Correlation analysis revealed that MANF was negatively correlated with the DAI and the level of cytokines. Furthermore, the depletion of gut microbiota using antibiotic partially inhabited the effect of BAP on the activation of MANF and Muc2, indicating the role of gut microbiota in its protective effect against colitis. In conclusion, BAP had an obvious activation on MANF under gut inflammation. Harmful algal blooms (HABs) significantly impact on water quality and ecological balance. Ultrasound irradiation has proven to be an effective method for algal control. Nevertheless, the molecular mechanisms underlying the inactivation of M. aeruginosa by ultrasound are still unknown. In this study, the physiological activity and molecular mechanism of algal cells exposed to different frequencies of ultrasound were studied. The results indicated a pronounced inhibition of algal cell growth by high-frequency, high-dose ultrasound. Moreover, with increasing ultrasound dosage, there was a higher percentage of algal cell membrane ruptures. SEM and TEM observed obvious disruptions in membrane structure and internal matrix. Hydroxyl radicals generated by high-frequency ultrasound inflicted substantial cell membrane damage, while increased antioxidant enzyme activities fortified cells against oxidative stress. Following 2 min of ultrasound irradiation at 740 kHz, significant differential gene expression occurred in various aspects, including energy metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, and environmental information processing pathways. Moreover, ultrasound irradiation influenced DNA repair and cellular apoptosis, suggesting that the algal cells underwent biological stress to counteract the damage caused by ultrasound. The potential toxic heavy metal runoff from antimony mining areas poses a serious threat to the water environment and the health of residents in the village. The study found that the average concentrations of As, Sb, Cr, Pb, and Cd in the runoff were 0.1237, 0.1148, 0.0332, 0.0140, and 0.0013 mg/L, which were higher than the normal average concentrations in the water environment of 0.018, 0.0009, 0.05, 0.012, and 0.000013 mg/L, respectively.Sb and As are severely polluted, while Cd, Pb, and Cr have lower pollution levels. The coefficients of variation for As, Sb, Cr, Pb, and Cd range from 0.079 to 1.051, with Sb showing exceptionally high variability. Heavy metal elements Pb, Cd, and Sb accumulate in the southeastern area of the village, with Sb concentrations decreasing from the southeast to the northwest. As is mainly distributed in the northeastern part of the village, while Cr is primarily found in the central-western region. Source analysis indicates that As and Sb originate from mining and industrial activities, dust deposition, and domestic sewage. Cr comes from the natural geological background and metal product industry, Pb from lead-acid batteries, industrial activities, and gasoline additives, and Cd from fertilization in residential green areas and pesticide use. Health risk analysis reveals that the hazard index (HI) values for As and As in the water environment are 1.49 and 2.31, respectively, both exceeding 1, posing a serious threat to the health of village residents. The HI values for Pb, Cr, and Cd elements are all below 1, indicating lower risks. The internal floating-roof tank is the main type of storage tank for refined oil products. The volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emission from the internal floating-roof tank plays a dominant role in the unorganized emission source of the oil depot. In this study, we selected six typical oil depots in Beijing to investigate VOC emission characteristics from the tank top vent hole using infrared imaging technology and flame ionization detector (FID). The results reveal that infrared thermal imager is efficient in quickly identifying the emission level of the tank discharge point. The ambient temperature and wind speed have a direct effect on sealing loss, the turnover can greatly influence the wall hanging loss, and the concentration of VOCs emitted from the tank top vent hole is negatively correlated with liquid height. Furthermore, the influence of accessories type of the internal floating-roof tank on the concentration of VOCs emission from the top vent hole is also studied when other parameters remain unchanged, and find the floating deck type and sealing mode have a significant influence on their VOCs emissions, of which the combination of pontoon type floating deck and secondary seal are effective in controlling the concentration of VOCs emitted from the tank top vent hole. Finally, based on our experimental results, several feasible emission reduction strategies are proposed in terms of source prevention and process control in order to achieve the fine management of the whole process. Purpose: Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) is a rare lysosomal storage disease characterized by progressive neurodegeneration and neuropsychiatric symptoms. This study investigated pathophysiological mechanisms underlying motor deficits, particularly speech production, and cognitive impairment., Methods: We prospectively phenotyped 8 adults with NPC and age-sex-matched healthy controls using a comprehensive assessment battery, encompassing clinical presentation, plasma biomarkers, hand-motor skills, speech production, cognitive tasks, and (micro-)structural and functional central nervous system properties through magnetic resonance imaging., Results: Patients with NPC demonstrated deficits in fine-motor skills, speech production timing and coordination, and cognitive performance. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed reduced cortical thickness and volume in cerebellar subdivisions (lobule VI and crus I), cortical (frontal, temporal, and cingulate gyri) and subcortical (thalamus and basal ganglia) regions, and increased choroid plexus volumes in NPC. White matter fractional anisotropy was reduced in specific pathways (intracerebellar input and Purkinje tracts), whereas diffusion tensor imaging graph theory analysis identified altered structural connectivity. Patients with NPC exhibited altered activity in sensorimotor and cognitive processing hubs during resting-state and speech production. Preoperative selection of perforator is one of the key steps for successful surgery. The purpose of this study is to simulate the selection process of the perforator of the flap using the 3D models of the deep inferior epigastric artery (DIEA). A retrospective study was performed of women who underwent deep inferior epigastric perforator flap breast reconstruction from January 2011 to July 2021. Construct 3D models of the DIEA using computerized tomography angiography images, and then computational fluid dynamics simulations were performed. Correlation and regression analyses were used to analyze the geometric and hemodynamic parameters. Statistical analysis suggested that the outlet flow was positively correlated with the inlet area (r = 0.338, p = 0.000), outlet area (r = 0.840, p = 0.000), the average radius of the perforator (r = 0.592, p = 0.000), and negatively correlated with the length of perforator(r = -0.210, p = 0.024). The results of linear regression analysis showed that the outlet area (p = 0.000), the average radius (p = 0.000), and the length (p = 0.044) of the perforator were the influencing factors on outlet flow. In multiple perforators analysis, there was a significant difference in the total outlet flow among single perforator, double perforators, and triple perforators (p = 0.002). Methane (CH 4 ) is both generated and consumed in paddy soils, where anaerobic oxidation of methane (AOM) serves as a crucial process for mitigating CH 4 emissions. Although the participation of humic acids (HA) and nitrate in AOM has been recognized, their relative roles and significance in paddy soils remain insufficiently investigated. In this study, we explored the potential activity of AOM driven by HA and nitrate, as well as the composition of archaeal communities in paddy soils across different rice growth periods and fertilization treatments. AOM activity ranged from 0.81 to 1.33 and 1.26 to 2.38 nmol of 13 CO 2 g -1 (dry soil) day -1 with HA and nitrate, respectively. No significant differences (p < 0.05) were observed between the AOM activity driven by HA and nitrate across the three fertilization treatments. According to AOM activity, the annual consumption of CH 4 was estimated at approximately 0.49 ± 0.06 and 0.83 ± 0.19 Tg for AOM processes driven by HA and nitrate in Chinese paddy soils. Nitrate-driven AOM activity exhibited a positive (p < 0.05) correlation with the abundance of the ANME-2d mcrA gene but a negative (p < 0.05) correlation with the content of dissolved organic carbon. Intriguingly, HA-driven AOM activity was only correlated positively with the nitrate-driven AOM activity. Soil water content, soil organic carbon, nitrate and nitrite contents were significantly correlated with the relative abundance of methanogenic and methanotrophic archaea. In recent years, the escalating water pollution has resulted in serious harm to human health and ecological environment due to the excessive discharge of toxic metal ions such as Al 3+ and Hg 2+ . Therefore, it is crucial to develop a simple, efficient, and rapid detection method for monitoring the levels of the metal ions in water environment to ensure public health and ecological safety. In this study, carbon dots (CDs) containing heteroatom Si were successfully synthesized by the solvothermal method. Subsequently, a novel dual-functional fluorescent sensor (CDs@ZIF-90) was constructed by integrating CDs with zeolitic imidazolate framework-90 (ZIF-90). The fluorescent composite CDs@ZIF-90 showed outstanding optical properties and excellent structural and luminescence stability in aqueous medium. Particularly, its fluorescence at 453 nm can be remarkably enhanced by Al 3+ and quenched upon exposure to Hg 2+ . As a result, the CDs@ZIF-90 was applied in sensitive and selective determination of Al 3+ and Hg 2+ ions with wide linear ranges (1-200 μM and 0.05-240 μM) and low detection limits (0.81 μM and 19.6 nM). Moreover, a convenient and rapid fluorescence test strip was also successfully prepared for visual detection of Al 3+ and Hg 2+ ions. This work is the first try to use the CDs@ZIF-90 fluorescence sensing material for highly sensitive and selective determination of Al 3+ and Hg 2+ based on "turn-on" and "turn-off" dual modes, respectively and it provides a new idea for monitoring quality of drinking water and environmental water. Methylation of histone H3 on the lysine-4 residue (H3K4me) is found throughout the eukaryotic domain, and its initial discovery as a conserved epigenetic mark of active transcription from yeast to mammalian cells has contributed to the histone code hypothesis. However, recent studies have raised questions on whether the different forms of H3K4me play a direct role in gene regulation or are simply by-products of the transcription process. Biomass-based carbon aerogels hold promising application prospect in the field of supercapacitors. In this research, starch was selected as a raw material for preparing carbon aerogels. The preparation process of starch hydrogels was simplified by using KOH, which can change starch suspension into hydrogels at room temperature. Moreover, the molecular mixing of KOH and starch was realized, so that KOH can be fully utilized in the activation process. The specific surface area of the starch-based carbon aerogels prepared by this method was 1349 m 2 /g, and the proportion of micropores was 43.7 %. Remarkably, as electrode materials for supercapacitors, the starch-based carbon aerogels exhibited outstanding electrochemical performance. In a three-electrode system, the carbon aerogels exhibited specific capacitance of 211.5 F/g at 0.5 A/g and 138.5 F/g at 10 A/g, suggesting their suitability for high-current applications. In a symmetrical supercapacitor configuration, the materials exhibited an energy density of 11.3 Wh/kg at a power density of 0.5 kW/kg and the specific capacitance can maintain 98.91 % after 10,000 cycles. Chronic constipation has been associated with depression-like behavior. Previous study identified the crucial role of gut microbiota in the development of constipation and depression. Dietary inulin (INU) could regulate gut microbiota. Whether INU treatment could ameliorate constipation induced depression was not clear. For this purpose, male CD-1 mice were administered diphenoxylate (20 mg/kg body weight/day) to induce constipation. We found that INU (10 % in standard diet) alleviated the diphenoxylate-induced constipation, manifested as the increase weight and moisture content of feces. Furthermore, the associated depression and anxiety-like behavior disorders were improved by inhibiting neuro-inflammation and preventing synaptic ultrastructure damage under INU treatment. Moreover, INU pretreatment improved the diphenoxylate-induced gut barrier damage by upregulating tight junction protein expression. INU also reshaped gut microbiota in constipation mice by increasing the relative abundance of Bacteroides and Proteobacteria and downregulating the abundance of Muribacalum and Melaminabacteria. The effects of INU on diphenoxylate-induced depression were abolished by gut microbiota depletion via antibiotic treatment. In addition, INU increased the concentration of short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in feces contents. Meanwhile, supplementation of SCFAs could also partly improve diphenoxylate-induced depression. Tetrandrine (TET) possesses multiple pharmacological activities and could suppress tumor proliferation via PI3K pathway inhibition. However, inferior antitumor activity and potential toxicity limit its clinical application. In the present study, a series of 14-sulfonamide and sulfonate TET derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for biological activities. Through structural-activity relationship studies, compound 3c with α, β-unsaturated carbonyl group exhibited the most potent activity against all tested tumor cell lines (including Hela, HCT116, HepG2, MCF-7, and SHSY5Y), as well as negligible toxicity against normal cell lines LO2 and HEK293. Additionally, compound 3c effectively inhibited HCT116 and CT26 cell proliferation in vitro with increased cell proportion in the G2/M phase, activated the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway, and induced colon cancer cell apoptosis by suppressing the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway. The further molecular docking results confirmed that compound 3c is potentially bound to multiple residues in PI3K with a stronger binding affinity than TET. Ultimately, compound 3c dramatically suppressed tumor growth in the CT26 xenograft tumor model, without noticeable visceral toxicity detected in the high-dose group. Developing a synthetic methodology to expediently construct a specific drug scaffold with the desired biological activity remains challenging. Herein, we describe a work on rational application of a synthetic methodology in the synthesis of KRAS G12C inhibitors. Novel KRAS G12C inhibitors were initially designed with 1-amino-3-aryl isoquinoline scaffold using structure-based drug design strategy. A ruthenium-catalyzed direct monoCH functionalization/annulation cascade reaction of amidines and sulfoxonium ylides was then developed with high versatility of substrates and good tolerance for polar functional groups. By using this reaction, the target compounds 1-amino-3-aryl isoquinolines were facilely prepared. Bio-metabolism of diverse communities is the main reason of water quality variation in sewers, and the signal molecule generation of communities is dementated to be the key regulation procedure for community metabolism. To reveal the mechanism of pollutant biotransformation in complex sewer environment, this study explored the formation of bacteria and fungi and the signal molecule transduction characteristics in a pilot sewer. In this study, several kinds of signal molecules that produced by bacteria and fungi (C4-HSL, C6-HSL, C8-HSL, farnesol and tyrosol) were detected along the formation process of sewer biofilms. The results showed that, in the early stage, bacterial AHLs signaling molecules are beneficial to the synthesis of EPS, providing a good material basis for the growth of bacterial flora. In addition, tyrosol stimulates the formation of embryonic tubes in yeast cells, further promoting the growth of hyphae. At the later stage, AHLs signaling molecules and tyrosol jointly promoted the growth of biofilms. In conclusion, it is precisely because of the coexistence of bacteria and fungi in the sewer system that the generated signal molecules can jointly promote the synthesis and growth of biofilms through different pathways, and have positive feedback on the biodegradation of various pollutants. Nitrogen fertilization has important effects on nitrification. However, how the rate of nitrogen fertilization affects nitrification potential, as well as the communities of ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) and ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB), remains unclear. We performed a large-scale investigation of nitrification potential and ammonia-oxidizer communities in Chinese paddy fields at different nitrogen fertilization rates across different climatic zones. It was found that the nitrification potential at the high nitrogen fertilization rate (≥150 kg -1  N ha -1 ) was 23.35 % higher than that at the intermediate rate (100-150 kg -1  N ha -1 ) and 20.77 % higher than that at the low rate (< 100 kg -1  N ha -1 ). The nitrification potential showed no significant variation among different nitrogen fertilization rates across climatic zones. Furthermore, the AOA and AOB amoA gene abundance at the high nitrogen fertilization rate was 481.67 % and 292.74 % higher (p < 0.05) than that at the intermediate rate, respectively. Correlation analysis demonstrated a significant positive correlation between AOB abundance and nitrification potential. AOA and AOB community composition differed significantly among nitrogen fertilization rates. Moreover, soil NH 4 + content, pH, water content, bulk density, and annual average temperature were regarded as key environmental factors influencing the community structure of ammonia-oxidizers. Taken together, the nitrogen fertilization rate had a significant impact on the communities of AOA and AOB but did not significantly alter the nitrification potential. Accurate diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders is a challenging task due to the time-consuming cognitive tests and potential human bias in clinics. To address this challenge, we propose a novel adversarial self-supervised graph neural network (GNN) based on graph contrastive learning, named A-GCL, for diagnosing neurodevelopmental disorders using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data. Taking advantage of the success of GNNs in psychiatric disease diagnosis using fMRI, our proposed A-GCL model is expected to improve the performance of diagnosis and provide more robust results. A-GCL takes graphs constructed from the fMRI images as input and uses contrastive learning to extract features for classification. The graphs are constructed with 3 bands of the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) as node features and Pearson's correlation coefficients (PCC) of the average fMRI time series in different brain regions as edge weights. The contrastive learning creates an edge-dropped graph from a trainable Bernoulli mask to extract features that are invariant to small variations of the graph. Experiment results on three datasets - Autism Brain Imaging Data Exchange (ABIDE) I, ABIDE II, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) - with 3 atlases - AAL1, AAL3, Shen268 - demonstrate the superiority and generalizability of A-GCL compared to the other GNN-based models. Extensive ablation studies verify the robustness of the proposed approach to atlas selection and model variation. Air pollutants represent an environmental and health risk, and the methods for their effective assessment are of the greatest importance. The MAX-DOAS method is a reliable retrieval algorithm, enabling a vertical gas profile analysis. However, the current MAX-DOAS retrieval algorithm heavily relies on the a priori profile, limiting its accuracy. To address this issue, we introduced a novel MAX-DOAS trace gas profile inversion algorithm called McPrA, which is less dependent on the a priori profile. It employs the Monte Carlo method to resolve the problem of optimal estimation of trace gases. The gas vertical column density is obtained from the air mass factor calculated by SCIATRAN. Afterward, the trace gas vertical distribution is retrieved by combining the weight function with the a priori profile. A normalization process is also included to improve the matching of the weight function and the a priori profile. The McPrA algorithm enables greater flexibility in grid modification to achieve a higher vertical resolution of up to 50 m, while sensitivity experiments contribute to determining the optimal configuration of retrieval parameters, with a degree of freedom of over 3.0. Comparative verification experiments indicate that the McPrA algorithm accurately retrieves gas profiles, with a correlation coefficient of over 0.89 for NO 2 in the first layer compared to in situ data. Phthalate esters (PAEs) are widely used as plasticizers. PAEs are ubiquitous in natural water bodies, with dibutyl phthalate (DBP) being one of the most common PAEs. DBP is prone to leaching or migration into the environment, posing serious health and environmental risks. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been widely used in various fields with the rapid development of nanotechnology. CNTs could alter the environmental behavior and toxicity of co-existing pollutants. CNTs have been shown to rapidly adsorb PEAs. However, current knowledge about the effects of CNTs on DBP toxicity is limited. Here we show that the toxic effects of single and combined exposure to DBP (0.1, 0.5, 1.0 mg/L) and different CNTs (MWCNTs/MWCNTs-COOH, 0.5 mg/L) on the early growth stage of zebrafish. The results suggested that a significant increase in heart rate and heart malformation rate was observed after co-exposure of DBP and MWCNTs/MWCNTs-COOH (p < 0.05). Furthermore, combined exposure increased antioxidant enzyme activity during early developmental stages in zebrafish (p < 0.05). The qRT-PCR results revealed that DBP and MWCNTs/MWCNTs-COOH co-exposure significantly interfered with the expression of genes related to oxidative stress, energy metabolism, development of cardiac function, and apoptosis (p < 0.05). In addition, for oxidative stress and cardiotoxicity, MWCNTs/MWCNTs-COOH aggravated the toxic effects of 0.5 mg/L DBP on embryos/larvae. The metabolomics results showed that co-exposure mitigated the disturbance of amino acid metabolism mediated by single DBP exposure. In general, MWCNTs/MWCNTs-COOH increased the impact of DBP in the early developmental stages of zebrafish. Fine root traits are critical to plant nutrition and water uptake, and soil nutrient cycling. The impacts of climate warming on woody plants are predicted to be severe, but the effects on the fine root traits of woody plants remain unclear. To evaluate the effects of warming on fine-root traits of woody plants, we synthesized 431 paired observations of 13 traits from 78 studies. The result showed that warming increased the fine root nitrogen (N) concentration, root mortality, and root respiration, but decreased fine root phosphorus (P) concentration, root C:N and root nonstructural carbohydrates (NSC) concentration. However, warming had no significant effect on fine root biomass, root production and morphological traits. Warming effects on fine root biomass and root diameter decreased with warming magnitude, while root P concentration increased. Moreover, with increasing warming duration, the effect size of specific root length (SRL), root length, root C:N and root NSC increased. The effects size of root biomass, root diameter, root length and root C:N decreased with mean annual temperature (MAT) and mean annual precipitation (MAP) increase. However, the effect size of root N concentration increased with higher MAT and MAP. Furthermore, warming increased the fine root biomass of ectomycorrhiza (ECM) plants, but decreased that of plants associated with arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi. These results indicate that the effect of warming on fine root traits of woody plants was not only modulated by warming duration and magnitude, but also MAT and MAP. Arginine (Arg) is considered a valuable biomarker for various diseases, including cystinuria, and its concentration level holds significant implications for human health. To achieve the purposes of food evaluation and clinical diagnosis, it is imperative to develop a rapid and facile method for selective and sensitive determination of Arg. In this work, a novel fluorescent material (Ag/Eu/CDs@UiO-66) was synthesized by encapsulating carbon dots (CDs), Eu 3+ and Ag  +  into UiO-66. This material can serve as a ratiometric fluorescent probe for detecting Arg. It exhibits a high sensitivity with a detection limit of 0.74 μM and a relatively broad linear range from 0-300 μM. After dispersing the composite Ag/Eu/CDs@UiO-66 in an Arg solution, the red emission of Eu 3+ center at 613 nm was significantly enhanced, while the characteristic peak of CDs center at 440 nm remained unchanged. Therefore, a ratio fluorescence probe could be constructed based on the peak height ratio of the two emission peaks to achieve selective detection of Arg. Missing data are a ubiquitous problem in longitudinal substance use disorder (SUD) clinical trials. In particular, the rates of missingness are often high and study participants often intermittently skip their scheduled outcome assessments, leading to so-called "non-monotone" missing data patterns. Moreover, when the primary outcome is a measure of substance use, study investigators often have strong prior beliefs based on their clinical experience that those participants with missing data are more likely to be using substances at those occasions, i.e., data are missing not at random (MNAR). Although approaches for handling missing data are well-developed when the missing data patterns are monotone, arising primarily from study participants withdrawing from the trial prematurely, fewer methods are available for non-monotone missingness. In this paper we review some conventional, as well as more novel, methods for handling non-monotone missingness in SUD trials when the repeatedly measured outcome variable is binary (e.g., denoting presence/absence of substance use). We compare and contrast the different approaches using data from a longitudinal clinical trial of four psychosocial treatments from the Collaborative Cocaine Treatment Study. Drip fertigation can synchronize the supply of nutrients and water for crop demand, offering the potential for minimizing negative environmental impacts and sustaining crop productivity. However, there are no comprehensive evaluations on performances of drip fertigation on environmental nitrogen (N) losses and crop productivity, nationwide. Here, a meta-analysis was performed to quantify overall effects of drip fertigation on N losses and crop productivity in Chinese agricultural systems based on 443 observations from 42 field studies. The results showed that drip fertigation significantly increased crop yields by 9.8 % and slightly increased soil NO emission by 13.9 % compared to the traditional irrigation and fertilization practices (e.g. flooding/furrow irrigation and N broadcasting), while significantly decreasing NH 3 volatilization by 14.2 %, soil N 2 O emission by 28.1 % and NO 3 - -N leaching loss by 71.2 %. There were significant mitigation potentials of environmental N losses by drip fertigation for cereal cropping systems, not for horticultural crops in terms of soil NO emission and not for cotton in terms of NH 3 volatilization. Non significant promotion effect on NO emission and significant reduction effects on the other all kinds of environmental N losses by drip fertigation were observed for alkaline soils (pH > 7.3) and coarse-textured soils. In addition, the use of different fertilizer sources and/or soil amendments have shown in popularity as strategies to offset the negative feedback associated with agricultural N losses, no direct synthetic result was shown in drip-fertigated soils. Objective: A general psychopathology (p) factor captures shared variation across mental disorders. Structural neural alterations have been associated with the p factor concurrently, but less is known about whether these alterations relate to within-person change in the p factor over time, especially during preadolescence, a period of neurodevelopmental changes., Method: This study examined whether baseline brain structure was prospectively related to the trajectory of the p factor and specific forms of psychopathology over 2 years in 9,220 preadolescents (aged 9-10 at baseline) from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study (ABCD). Longitudinal multilevel models were conducted to determine whether baseline brain structure (volume, surface area, thickness) was associated with between-person differences and within-person change in the p factor (from a higher-order confirmatory factor model) and internalizing, externalizing, neurodevelopmental, somatization, and detachment factor scores (from a correlated factors model) over 3 study waves., Results: Smaller global volume and surface area, but not thickness, were associated with higher between-person levels of the p factor scores, which persisted over time. None of the brain structure measures were related to within-person change in the p factor scores. Lower baseline cortical thickness was associated with steeper decreases in internalizing psychopathology, which was driven by lower thickness within sensorimotor and temporal regions., Conclusion: These novel results identify specific brain structure features that might contribute to transdiagnostic psychopathology development in preadolescence. Children with smaller total brain volume and surface area may be vulnerable to persistent general psychopathology during preadolescence.
