Background: Typhoid fever, caused by Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi, is a significant public health concern due to the escalating of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), with limited treatment options for extensively drug-resistant (XDR) S. Typhi strains pose a serious threat to disease management and control. This study aimed to investigate the genomic characteristics, epidemiology and AMR genes of XDR S. Typhi strains from typhoid fever patients in Pakistan. Methodology: We assessed 200 patients with enteric fever symptoms, confirming 65 S. Typhi cases through culturing and biochemical tests. Subsequent antimicrobial susceptibility testing revealed 40 cases of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) and 25 cases of multi-drug resistance (MDR). Thirteen XDR strains were selected for whole-genome sequencing, to analyze their sequence type, phylogenetics, resistance genes, pathogenicity islands, and plasmid sequences using variety of data analysis resources. Pangenome analysis was conducted for 140 XDR strains, including thirteen in-house and 127 strains reported from other regions of Pakistan, to assess their genetic diversity and functional annotation. Results: MLST analysis classified all isolates as sequence type 1 (ST-1) with 4.3.1.1. P1 genotype characterization. Prophage and Salmonella Pathogenicity Island (SPI) analysis identified intact prophages and eight SPIs involved in Salmonella's invasion and replication within host cells. Genome data analysis revealed numerous AMR genes including dfrA7, sul1, qnrS1, TEM-1, Cat1, and CTX-M-15, and SNPs associated with antibiotics resistance. IncY, IncQ1, pMAC, and pAbTS2 plasmids, conferring antimicrobial resistance, were detected in a few XDR S. Typhi strains. Phylogenetic analysis inferred a close epidemiological linkage among XDR strains from different regions of Pakistan. Pangenome was noted closed among these strains and functional annotation highlighted genes related to metabolism and pathogenesis. Conclusion: This study revealed a uniform genotypic background among XDR S. Typhi strains in Pakistan, signifying a persistence transmission of a single, highly antibiotic-resistant clone. The closed pan-genome observed underscores limited genetic diversity and highlights the importance of genomic surveillance for combating drug-resistant typhoid infections.

The current study aimed to investigate the influence of taxifolin on depression symptoms alleviation in Male Sprague-Dawley rats by targeting underlying pathways of depression. Molecular docking analyses were conducted to validate taxifolin's binding affinities against various targets. In silico analysis of taxifolin revealed various aspects of post docking interactions with different protein targets. Depression was induced in rats via intraperitoneal injection of Lipopolysaccharide (LPS; 500 μ g/Kg) for 14 alternative days. Rats (n = 6/group) were randomly assigned to four groups: (i) Saline/Control, (ii) Disease (LPS 500 μg/kg), (iii) Standard (fluoxetine 20 mg/kg), and (iv) Treatment (taxifolin 20 mg/kg). At the end of the in vivo study, brain samples were used for biochemical and morphological analysis. Taxifolin exhibited neuroprotective effects, as evidenced by behavioral studies, antioxidant analysis, histopathological examination, immunohistochemistry, ELISA and RT PCR, indicating an increase number of surviving neurons, normalization of cell size and shape, and reduction in vacuolization. Taxifolin also decreased inflammatory markers such as TNF-α, NF-κb, IL-6 and COX-2, while significantly upregulating and activating the protective PPAR-γ pathway, through which it reduces the oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, thereby ameliorating depression symptoms in experimental rat model of depression. Our finding suggests that taxifolin act as neuroprotective agent partially mediated through PPAR-γ pathway.

Wide bandgap semiconductors such as Zinc Oxide (ZnO) have earned much attention on account of its interesting optical and electrical properties. Also, doping ZnO with suitable transition elements enables to tune its properties, making it suitable for applications like transparent conducting oxides and LEDs. To this aim, Vanadium-doped ZnO (V:ZnO) thin films are fabricated using the SILAR method and studied the structural, optical, vibrational, photophysical and electrical properties. Introducing vanadium creates lattice relaxation in the ZnO wurtzite structure, influencing its electronic band structure. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses have verified the structural integrity of the vanadium-doped zinc oxide (V:ZnO) films, revealing their polycrystalline composition. The Raman spectroscopy shows the reduced phonon line widths due to the improved crystallite quality with the presence of vanadium. Furthermore, it has been noted that optical characteristics such as the bandgap and refractive index are sensitive to vanadium doping as a consequence of modified electronic structures. Hall-effect experiments have shown that undoped ZnO films possess a mobility of 1.31 cm2/Vs and a charge carrier density of 5.58 × 1013 cm−3. It has been observed that doping with V markedly influences these parameters of ZnO films. Then, the time-resolved photoluminescence measurements reveal the increased carrier lifetimes, suggesting the introduction of dopants mitigates carrier-phonon interactions. Such interactions need to be minimized to prevent the dissipation of carrier energy. In essence, the reported work demonstrates the potential of V:ZnO for optoelectronic applications.

Binary PdM-based nanocrystals are efficient electrocatalysts for a wide range of renewable and green fuel cell applications; however, their poisoning by CO is a great barrier for commercialization, so it is pivotal to solve this issue. Herein, we fabricated support-free PdM alloys (M = Fe, Co, and Ni) by a prompt one-step aqueous-solution co-reduction with sodium borohydride driven by the coalescence growth mechanism. This forms support-free PdM porous foam-like nanostructures with well-defined compositions from the ICP-OES analysis and clean surface without any hazardous chemicals or multiple reaction steps. The as-prepared PdM foam-like nanostructures were demonstrated for carbon monoxide oxidation (COOxid) electrocatalysis at varied electrolyte pH compared with commercial Pd/C catalyst. The foam-like PdFe nanocrystals achieved an excellent electrochemical COOxid activity that was at least 2.18-times of PdCo, 4.35-times of PdNi, and 1.56-times of Pd/C in both alkaline (KOH) and acidic (HClO4) electrolytes, but PdCo was the best in neutral (NaHCO3) medium. The superior activity of PdM is due to the strain and alloying effect, which promoted the superb CO oxidation durability for 1000 cycles than Pd/C catalyst. This study demonstrated the superiority of support-free bimetallic PdM alloys than Pd/C catalyst in all electrolytes, which may open new gates for understanding CO-poisoning in alcohol-based fuel cells.

The opto-photocatalytic applications of Mn-doped NiO nanoparticles (NPs) are discussed. A facile synthesis of NiO doped with different Mn contents is performed and studied using experimental techniques. The structural properties and microstructural parameters of Mn:NiO NPs were examined by X-ray diffraction patterns. The average crystallite sizes of the pure NiO and 1.0-, 2.5-, 5.0-, 10-wt.% Mn-doped NiO NPs were found to be 25–19 nm by Williamson–Hall plots and 23–18 nm by the Debye–Scherer method. The crystallite size decreases with increasing doping concentration in the NiO host lattice. The optical bandgaps are found to be 3.53, 3.46, 3.39, 3.24, and 3.12 eV for pure NiO and 1.0-, 2.5-, 5.0-, and 10-wt.% Mn:NiO NPs, respectively, using the Kubelka–Munk function. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy spectra of 2.5-wt.% Mn:NiO NPs were recorded for Mn, Ni, and O to determine the oxidation states. The photocatalytic performances of pure NiO and Mn:NiO NPs are examined. The 2.5-wt.% Mn:NPs exhibit the best photocatalytic performance owing to the greatest activation sites. The mechanism of the photocatalytic decolorization reaction is also investigated. The results demonstrate the high ability of Mn:NiO NPs as photocatalysts for methylene blue dye degradation, with 92% removal.

The structural, optical, and dielectric properties of pure NiO and yttrium (Y) doped NiO (Y: NiO) were studied in the present article for optoelectronic application. The pristine and different concentrations of 1.0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, and 10 wt.% doped Y: NiO nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by flash combustion route. X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images were used to study the structural properties of as-prepared nanoparticles. The average crystallite sizes (29.8–6.7 nm) and grains size (159.2–17.9 nm) were found to be decreased with an increase in Y contents. The dislocation density (1.12–21.75 × 10−3 1/nm2), lattice strain (2.79–12.46 × 10−3) and surface area (29.48–131.13 cm2/g) were increased on increasing Y contents. Direct optical band gaps of prepared samples were estimated using the Tauc's relation in the range of 3.52–3.37 eV. Photoluminescent spectra of prepared samples exhibit spectra at 355 nm, 451–482 nm, and 493 nm emission bands, which confirm the existence of oxygen and nickel vacancies. The improvement in the dielectric constant (143), dielectric loss (1233), and loss tangent (8.67) were observed for 5.0 wt.% Y doped NiO from the dielectric analysis of the samples. The electrical conductivities of Y: NiO NPs were also improved compared to pure NiO NPs. The improvement in the optical and dielectric properties of NiO in the substitution of yttrium (Y) can be used for optoelectronics applications.

A comprehensive investigation of the physical characteristics of any material provides beneficial information regarding its application viewpoint in different industries. Herein, we report the tunable mechanical and optoelectronic properties of cubic CdZrO3 under variable pressure up to 80 GPa using density functional theory (DFT). The pressure-induced band gap engineering reveals a fantastic fact of transformation of the indirect to direct band gap with increasing pressure. The dielectric response disclosed that optical parameters dragged towards higher energy with an increase of pressure, which unveiled the potential of CdZrO3 for optoelectronic applications. Effective change in optoelectronic is attributed to indirect to direct band gap transition. This study provides a gateway to how the optoelectronic properties of cubic CdZrO3 could be tuned by employing external pressure.

Currently, highly luminescent colloidal upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) have expanded an increasing interest of researchers because of their facilitating lability in the biomedical/clinical field. In this study, NaYF4:Yb,Er UCNPs are prepared by eco-friendly metal complexation-based thermal decomposition method at a lower temperature in aqueous media. The phase structure, crystallinity, phase purity, morphology, colloidal dispersibility, surface structure, surface charge, and optical and luminescent properties were evaluated carefully by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), energy dispersive x-ray analysis (EDX), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), zeta potential, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), UV/visible and photoluminescent spectroscopic techniques. XRD pattern shows a pure single-phase cubic structure with an average grain size of 30–35 nm. TEM and SEM micrographs exhibited irregularly shaped spherical morphologies, porous surface structures highly aggregated UCNPs with the narrow-size distribution. Positive zeta potential has shown value signifying high absorption in the visible region which indicates particle's good colloidal stability in aqueous media. Under NIR-laser light excitation, the UCNPs emit strong UC emission transitions in the visible region. A broad infrared absorption peak of hydroxyl groups (–OH) in FTIR spectrum and mass loss at a lower temperature in TGA verified the surface functionality of UCNPs, with high colloidal stability, and excellent biocompatibility in aqueous media. In terms of their surface characteristics and high luminescent properties, the NaYF4:Yb,Er UCNPs could be interestingly applied in tagging of biomolecules, drug delivery, proteins labeling, and therapeutic and thermostats applications.

Iron nanoparticles are used as a targeted drug delivery system. The nanocarrier itself can be genotoxic, trigger oxidative stress or cell death. Therefore, we developed an AC/DC magnetic syringe for injecting, stimulating drug release and safe removing of the nanocarrier. Alongside we optimized the method for nanoparticles’ drug release kinetics and testing cytotoxicity in vitro. • This paper presents detailed instructions for construction of AC/DC magnetic syringe device for stimulated drug release, injection and ejection of magnetic nanoparticles; nanoparticles preparation; adsorbing methylene blue on nanoparticles; determination of drug release kinetics from nanocarriers on the example of methylene blue • Gomori´s Prussian blue reaction for differentiated SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cell line; MTT viability assay optimized for differentiated SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cell line and antioxidant enzymes activities assay and lipid peroxidation methods are optimized for cell analyses cell cultivation for nanoparticles cytotoxicity testing in vitro. • Those protocols are the first step toward further testing the effect of nanoparticles in vivo, on brain tissue.

In this article, we study the convergence behavior of G-nonexpansive mappings for three-step iterations in convex metric space along with the directed graph. We demonstrate the Δ-convergence as well as the strong convergence results for these mappings. For supporting our main results we presented a numerical example and convergence comparison of modified Thianwan iteration with SP iteration scheme and Noor iteration scheme.

Hydrogels are three-dimensional structures that serve as substitutes for the extracellular matrix (ECM) and possess outstanding physicochemical and biochemical characteristics. They are gaining importance in regenerative medicine because of their similarity to the natural extracellular matrix in terms of moisture content and wound and tissue healing permeability. Tissue engineering advancements have resulted in the development of flexible hydrogels that mimic the dynamic characteristics of the ECM. Several approaches have been applied to produce hydrogels from biopolymers with enhanced functional and structural characteristics for different applications in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine (TERM). This review provides a comprehensive overview of hydrogel in wound healing, tissue engineering, and drug delivery systems. We outline different types of hydrogels based on the physical and chemical crosslinking, fundamental properties, and their applications in TERM. This review article provided the recent literature on hydrogels for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine within five years. Recent developments in biopolymer-based hydrogels for state-of-the-art tissue engineering and regenerative medicine have been discussed, emphasizing their significant challenges and future perspectives.

The power system incorporates renewable energy resources into the main utility grid, which possesses low or no inertia, and these systems generate harmonics due to the utilization of power electronic equipment. The precise and effective assessment of harmonic characteristics is necessary for maintaining power quality in distributed power systems. In this paper, the Marine Predator Algorithm (MPA) that mimics the hunting behavior of predators is exploited for harmonics estimation. The MPA utilizes the concepts of Levy and Brownian motions to replicate the movement of predators as they search for prey. The identification model for parameter estimation of harmonics is presented, and an objective function is developed that minimizes the difference between the real and predicted harmonic signals. The efficacy of the MPA is assessed for different levels of noise, population sizes, and iterations. Further, the comparison of the MPA is conducted with a recent metaheuristic of the Reptile Search Algorithm (RSA). The statistical analyses through sufficient autonomous executions established the accurate, stable, reliable and robust behavior of MPA for all variations. The substantial enhancement in estimation accuracy indicates that MPA holds great potential as a strategy for estimating harmonic parameters in distributed power systems.

Torrefied biomass is a vital green energy source with applications in circular economies, addressing agricultural residue and rising energy demands. In this study, ML models were used to predict durability (%) and mass loss (%). Firstly, data was collected and preprocessed, and its distribution and correlation were analyzed. Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) and Ensemble Learning Trees (ELT) were then trained and tested on 80 % and 20 % of the data, respectively. Both machine learning models underwent optimization through Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for feature selection and hyperparameter tuning. GPR-PSO demonstrates excellent accuracy in predicting durability (%), achieving a training R2 score of 0.9469 and an RMSE value of 0.0785. GPR-GA exhibits exceptional performance in predicting mass loss (%), achieving a training R2 value of 1 and an RMSE value of 9.7373e-05. The temperature and duration during torrefaction are crucial variables that are in line with the conclusions drawn from previous studies. GPR and ELT models effectively predict and optimize torrefied biomass quality, leading to enhanced energy density, mechanical properties, grindability, and storage stability. Additionally, they contribute to sustainable agriculture by reducing carbon emissions, improving cost-effectiveness, and aiding in the design and development of pelletizers. This optimization not only increases energy density and grindability but also enhances nutrient delivery efficiency, water retention, and reduces the carbon footprint. Consequently, these outcomes support biodiversity and promote sustainable agricultural, ecosystem, and environmental practices.

Background: Dementia is a recognized complication of atrial fibrillation (AF). Oral anticoagulant (OAC) therapy can potentially be protective against this complication. Methods: A comprehensive search of MEDLINE and Embase for comparative observational studies reporting the efficacy of OAC therapy for the incidence of dementia in patients with AF was conducted from its inception until March 2023. Studies that had patients with prior use of OAC or with a previous history of dementia were excluded. Results: A total of 22 studies were included in this review involving 617,204 participants. The pooled analysis revealed that OAC therapy, including direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) and vitamin K antagonists (VKAs), was associated with a reduced incidence of dementia in AF patients. Textile based sensors have gained tremendous attention in moisture sensing. Moisture monitoring is crucial in wound healing. To promote the healing process, it is essential to maintain an optimal level of moisture while limiting unnecessary dressing changes. The objective of this research was to test how well a textile moisture sensor can detect moisture from the body and wound fluid when attached to the dressing. To this end, a 3D interdigitated capacitive structure was embroidered with silver conductive threads on the textile substrate, and a bandage was placed in the centre of the multilayer structure. When compared to traditional planar interdigitated structures, the main innovation of the proposed 3D capacitive structure lies in a larger surface area for interaction with the surrounding environment, leading to enhanced sensitivity to changes in capacitance with the respect to the moisture. The 3D structure of the bandage increased the ratio between electrodes and surface area to impact the surface charge sensitivity towards the adsorbed charges of the wound and body fluid. To observe the performance of the sensor, the bandage was exposed to simulated body fluid and wound fluid. Between dry and wet conditions, the sensor can detect capacitance differences of several orders of magnitude. The threshold volume for the 3D bandage was 30 μL to 50 μL, depending on the type of biofluids. The capacitive bandage integration with the inductor was tested at high frequencies (1–400 MHz). The shift in impedance was observed for the tested fluids. Finally, to compare sensing properties of the proposed structure against the previously reported designs, a bandage sensitivity was checked for three different configurations: (a) the proposed 3D bandage, (b) a 2D bandage, composed of textile substrate with both electrodes embroidered on top of bandage, and (c) classical interdigital structure without bandage composed of textile with embroidered electrodes on the top of it. The sensitivity of the 3D bandage for simulated body fluid and wound fluid is >6.6% and 7.4%, respectively, higher than the other two structures. The integration of the proposed textile-based sensor into a bandage could facilitate wound care and have a significant impact on efficacy for patients.

Summary: MYB acts as a potentiator of aggressiveness and castration resistance in prostate cancer (PCa) through aberrant activation of androgen receptor (AR) signaling. Since Black men experience higher PCa incidence and mortality than White men, we examined if MYB was differentially expressed in prostate tumors from patients of these racial backgrounds. The data reveal that aberrant MYB expression starts early in precancerous high-grade prostate intraepithelial neoplastic lesions and increases progressively in malignant cells. PCa tissues from Black patients exhibit higher MYB expression than White patients in overall and grade-wise comparisons. MYB also exhibits a positive correlation with AR expression and both display higher expression in advanced tumor stages. Notably, we find that MYB is a better predictor of biochemical recurrence than AR, pre-treatment PSA, or Gleason’s grades. These findings establish MYB as a promising molecular target in PCa that could be used for improved risk prediction and therapeutic planning.

Background and objectives: Ambulatory blood pressure (BP) monitoring has become useful in the diagnosis and management of hypertensive individuals. In this study we tried to know the role of office and ambulatory BP in treated hypertensive patients. Methods and patients: Prospective cohort of 561 treated hypertensive patients were enrolled in the study. Hypertension definitions were according to JNC 8 classification. Office BP and ambulatory BP monitoring was done according to defined protocol. Results: From a subgroup of 158 treated hypertensive patients, 91(16.2%) patients were having white coat hypertension (p value 0.00 by Pearson chi square test). In a subset of 403 patients who were having controlled BP on the day of enrolment as well as on the day of attaching ambulatory BP monitor; 98 (17.4%) patients were having masked uncontrolled hypertension (MUCH). In addition there was very significant percentage of non-dippers and reverse dippers. In our study we found that office BP has a moderate to low specificity and sensitivity and low negative predictive value for overall control in treated hypertensive patients. Conclusion: Ambulatory BP monitoring should be included in the management protocol of treated hypertensive patients, for the optimal BP control.

Perovskite materials are considered the gateway of various physical applications to meet the production and consumption of energy and medical fields. Density Functional Theory (DFT) becomes the most important field in the modern era to investigate perovskite materials for various physical properties. DFT nowadays is used to explore the perovskite materials for a lot of applications like photocatalytic, optoelectronic, and photovoltaics. We discussed radium based cubic hydrides RbRaX3 (while X = F & Cl) perovskite material's electrical, optical, elastic, & physical characteristics with the help of DFT-based CASTEP code with PBE exchange-correlation efficient of GGA. The RbRaF3 & RbRaCl3 have three-dimensional nature by means of space group 221 (Pm3 m). According to electronic characteristics, the direct bandgap of RbRaF3 RbRaCl3 are 3.18eV and 2.209eV, respectively. Both compounds are brittle in nature via Poisson's ratio & Pugh's criteria. Thus, our novel RbRaX3 (X = F and Cl) compounds have excellent applications for solar cell and medical areas.

Herein, we present a green, economic and ecofriendly protocol for synthesis of cobalt oxide (Co3O4-NPs) and magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO-NPs) for multifaceted biomedical applications. In the study, a simple aqueous leaf extract of Hibiscus rosa sinensis, was employed for the facile one pot synthesis of Co3O4-NPs and MgO-NPs. The well characterized NPs were explored for multiple biomedical applications including bactericidal activity against urinary tract infection (UTI) isolates, leishmaniasis, larvicidal, antidiabetic antioxidant and biocompatibility studies. Our results showed that both the NPs were highly active against multidrug resistant UTI isolates as compared to traditional antibiotics and induced significant zone of inhibition against Proteus Vulgaris, Pseudomonas Aurigenosa and E.coli. The NPs, in particular Co3O4-NPs also showed significant larvicidal activity against the Aedes Aegypti, the mosquitoes involve in the transmission of Dengue fever. Similarly, excellent leishmanicidal activity was also observed against both the promastigote and amastigote forms of the parasite. Furthermore, the particles also exhibited considerable antidiabetic activity by inhibiting α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes. The biosynthesized NPs were found to be excellent antioxidant and biocompatible nanomaterials. Owing to ecofriendly synthesis, non-toxic and biocompatible nature, the Hibiscus rosa sinensis synthesized Co3O4-NPs and MgO-NPs can be exploited as potential candidates for multiple biomedical applications.

This study focused on the modeling and simulation of the Ethylene Oxide (EO) production process in Aspen plus software and energy optimization of the whole process using the Pinch analysis. This work focused on ethylene oxide production by the air-based system and modeled and simulated the whole process in Aspen plus® using the S.R.K. and PSRK thermodynamic models. By process design, modeling and simulation, the behavior of the actual process has been predicted. After process simulation, it has been concluded that control the oxygen concentration by controlling the airflow and controlling the reactor's temperatures causes an impact on our desired product. When the oxygen concentration increases, ethylene is oxidized completely and generated useless products such as carbon dioxide and water to enhance production. Energy optimization of ethylene oxide production is completed through Pinch analysis and saves 18.27million $ per year, which is consumed in heating or cooling streams.

Ultrasound treatment was used to successfully prepare Quercetin (Qu)-loaded Casein phosphopeptides (CPP)/chitosan (CS) nanoparticles. Compared with the control, the above ternary nanoparticles with the smallest size (241.27 nm, decreased by 34.32%), improved encapsulation efficiency of Qu (78.55%, increased by 22.12%) when prepared under following conditions: ultrasonic frequency, 20/35/50 kHz; the power density, 80 W/L; the time, 20 min, and the intermittent ratio, 20 s/5s. Electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonding, and hydrophobic interactions were the main driving forces for nanoparticles formulation, which were strengthened by ultrasound treatment. The compact, homogeneous and spherical composite nanoparticles obtained by sonication were clearly observed by scanning electron microscope and atomic force microscope. The environmental stability (NaCl, pH, exposure time, storage time, and simulated gastrointestinal digestion) and antioxidant activity of the ternary nanoparticles were remarkably enhanced after ultrasonic treatment. Furthermore, the ternary nanoparticles prepared by ultrasound exhibited excellent stability in simulated gastrointestinal digestion. The above results indicate that ultrasound not only increases the loading of the nanoparticles on bioactive substances but also improves the environmental stability and antioxidant activity of the formed nanoparticles. Ultrasound-assisted preparation of nanoparticles loaded with bioactive substances could be well used in the functional food and beverage industry.

Novel biomaterials for diagnostics and therapeutics of biomedical issues have been considered using biomedical science and health care. Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) are naturally occurring aluminosilicate clay. Because of their unique hollow tubular structure, biodegradability, mechanical and surface properties, they have drawn the attention of researchers to a variety of biomedical applications. HNTs are inorganic natural aluminosilicates that are tubular-shaped and nanosized. These are well-known nanofillers and nanocontainers used to develop composites for various biomedical applications to load bioactive molecules and therapeutic agents. HNTs-polymer nanocomposites, their characterizations, properties, and applications in biomedical fields are all covered in this review paper. The current article provides an overview of HNTs and their applications in medical and biomedical settings, focusing on individualized HNTs and drug loading methods and biomedical applications, which may aid researchers in developing novel biomaterials for biomedical engineering and health care.

Malignant melanoma is a lethal human skin cancer that is not easily treatable through traditional medicines, surgeries, and therapies. Millions of cases are recorded annually to cure physiological skin defects by chemotherapy that causes several adverse effects and challenges. Moreover, pathogenic infections might aggravate infection with subsequent ulceration or cutaneous melanoma. Accordingly, we synthesized nanodrug by loading chemotherapeutic agent, Fluorouracil (5FU), onto the reduced graphene oxide (rGO). We then extracted arabinoxylan (ARX) from the husk of Plantago Ovata and functionalized it into carboxymethylarabinoxylan (CMARX) and loaded synthesized nanodrug. We have crosslinked CMARX/nanodrug with different amount of tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) to prepare nanocomposite hydrogel rGO-5FU-CMARX system for melanoma skin cancer care and treatment. These nanocomposite hydrogel systems rGO-5FU-CMARX have exhibited different physicochemical properties. These properties were analyzed through FTIR, SEM, water contact angle, swelling in different media (aqueous and PBS) and biodegradation in PBS media. The in-vitro activities, i.e., drug delivery via Franz diffusion, antibacterial against S. aureus and P. aeruginosa and the anticancer activities was performed against Uppsala 87 Malignant Glioma (U-87) cell lines. Moreover, rGO-5FU-CMARX nanocomposite hydrogels displayed different antimicrobial and anticancer activities based on different crosslinking. Hence, an inventive rGO-5FU-CMARX based nanocomposite hydrogel drug-delivery system was developed to treat malignant melanoma skin cancer after bacterial infections.

Due to their potential renewable materials-based tissue engineering scaffolds has gained more attention. Therefore, researchers are looking for new materials to be used as a scaffold. In this study, we have focused on the development of a nanocomposite scaffold for bone tissue engineering (using bacterial cellulose (BC) and β-glucan (β-G)) via free radical polymerization and freeze-drying technique. Hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (n-HAp) and graphene oxide (GO) were added as reinforcement materials. The structural changes, surface morphology, porosity, and mechanical properties were investigated through spectroscopic and analytical techniques like Fourier transformation infrared (FT-IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Brunauer–Emmett-Teller (BET), and universal testing machine Instron. The scaffolds showed remarkable stability, aqueous degradation, spongy morphology, porosity, and mechanical properties. Antibacterial activities were performed against gram -ive and gram + ive bacterial strains. The BgC-1.4 scaffold was found more antibacterial compared to BgC-1.3, BgC-1.2, and BgC-1.1. The cell culture and cytotoxicity were evaluated using the MC3T3-E1 cell line. More cell growth was observed onto BgC-1.4 due to its uniform interrelated pores distribution, surface roughness, better mechanical properties, considerable biochemical affinity towards cell adhesion, proliferation, and biocompatibility. These nanocomposite scaffolds can be potential biomaterials for fractured bones in orthopedic tissue engineering.
