This study investigates various processing approaches, interface characteristics, and mechanical properties of an aluminum (Al) matrix composite reinforced with additively manufactured (AM) 316L stainless-steel (SS) lattice. The AM-316L-SS lattice, boasting a 30 % infill density, was fabricated using the laser powder bed fusion technique. The Al-matrix was integrated with the AM-316L-SS reinforcement through experimentation involving pre-stirring of the molten Al under pressurized and unpressurized die-casting conditions. A well-bonded interface, with cohesive regions, was obtained in the pre-stirred structures. In contrast, regions of decohesion were displayed in cast structures without pre-stirring, leading to the presence of pores and the manifestation of imperfect bond interfaces. Compression tests conducted on the sound composite demonstrated enhanced mechanical properties, with a compressive strength of approximately 163 MPa, significantly higher than that of the pure Al-matrix (approximately 80 MPa). Localized interface cracking was initiated by stress gradients and plastic deformation, leading to microcrack propagation into the Al-matrix.

The present work was to study a protective role of salicylic acid (SA) on oxidative stress caused by Basagran® herbicide application. Two peanut cultivars (Arachis hypogaea cv. Giza 5 and Giza 6) with different sensitivities to the herbicide were monitored for their antioxidant responses to Basagran® and/or SA treatments. Two weeks after treatment, Basagran® lowered leaf pigments (Chlorophyll a, Chlorophyll b and total Carotenoids) but increased hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents indicating occurrence of lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress. Salicylic acid applied prior to low dose Basagran® lowered H2O2 and MDA contents in both G5 and G6. Except for SOD which is highly stimulated, POD, CAT and APX activities showed slight changes compared to control in leaves treated with Basagran® ± SA. The extracts tested by DPPH showed increase in total antioxidant activity by 4%–7% in SA + Basagran® treated leaves compared to control. The increased total antioxidant activity was related to the accumulation of amounts of phenolics as a protective action stimulated by SA. Alterations of antioxidant enzymatic system, accumulation of phenolics, increasing the total antioxidant activity by SA provide an evidence of protective action of SA in Basagran® detoxification.

It is obtained that nano-Co3O4-coated carbon prepared by thermal decomposition of Co(NO3)2·6H2O at 300 °C on home-made Albizia procera (Roxb.) leaves derived carbon is an efficient electrocatalyst for electrochemical water oxidation in 0.1 M NaOH (aq.) solution. The loading of nano-Co3O4 on the carbon was changed by varying the amount of precursor of cobalt (100–1000 mg) and using a constant amount of the carbon (200 mg) during thermal decomposition. The prepared samples were characterized by physical techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). XRD, TEM, FESEM, and EDS confirmed the formation of uniformly distributed nanoparticles of single-phase Co3O4 on the surface of carbon. The XRD data reveals formation of nano-Co3O4 with average particle sizes in the range of 9–17 nm. The FESEM micrographs demonstrate that Co3O4 nanoparticles, having irregular morphology, are uniformly and densely covered on the surface of supporting carbon.. The prepared samples were immobilized on the filter paper derived carbon electrode (FPCE) to study their electrocatalytic properties toward water oxidation. The cyclic voltammetric studies showed that the nano-Co3O4-C prepared using 400 mg of Co(NO3)2·6H2O (nano-Co3O4-C-400), which possesses meso- and macropores with BET surface area of 192.4 m2/g, reaches a current density of 28 mAcm−2 at 1.5 V and electrochemical water oxidation starting potential of 0.7 V. In this work, it is also shown that the current densities, at 1.5 V, increase by increasing the amount of cobalt oxide in the prepared samples though. The nano-Co3O4-C-400 catalyst shows optimum performance for electrochemical water oxidation in terms of starting water oxidation potential, reasonable amount of Co3O4 and moderate level of current density at 1.5 V. A historic urban district is a quarter built many years ago and contains valuable memories over a limited area with narrow streets for pedestrians, primitive transportation, and outdoor activities. Over the years, many districts have been growing randomly, and motorized transport has enlarged significantly and created severe problems. Improving the situation needs heritage protection and sustainable mobility development on its streets. The desired mobility focuses on managing travel demands, accessibility for all street users, and enhancing the environment. This research presents a proposed approach with an application framework for sustainable mobility development on historic roads according to its current conditions at the strategic level. It includes sequential phases to define desired goals, formulate and evaluate planning scenarios containing different action measures based on sustainability indicators and application of micro-simulation. In case of inappropriate evaluation results, approach phases allow the modification and re-evaluation of additional measures until deciding an acceptable solution. The application is limited to Ras El-Teen Palace Street, prominent in the ancient El Gomrok district, Alexandria and restricted to a Do-Nothing solution and a planning scenario. The application proves the approach's practicality and feasibility by improving traffic behaviour. Furthermore, the planning approach can indicate technical recommendations for further improvement.
