A phytochemical investigation of the leaves and twigs of Helietta parvifolia (Rutaceae) resulted in the isolation of heliparvifoline, a new furoquinoline alkaloid, in addition to the known bases flindersiamine and isoflindersiamine.

TLC and GLC of an alkaloid extract of the aboveground portions of Lupinus argenteus Pursh. var. stenophyllus (Rydb.) Davis (Leguminosae) suggested the presence of sparteine, beta-isosparteine, delta5-dehydrolupanine, alpha-isolupanine, lupanine, thermopsine, and anagyrine. GLC-mass spectrometry confirmed these preliminary findings. Preparative TLC was used to isolate sparteine, and this alkaloid was further characterized by IR spectral analysis and derivatization.

A phytochemical investigation of an alcoholic extract of the petioles of Nelumbo lutea resulted in the identification of the alkaloids N-methylasimilobine, anonaine, and roemerine. The alkaloids nuciferine, armepavine, N-nornuciferine, and N-norarmepavine, previously previously reported in the whole plant, were also identified.

TLC analysis of extracts of Pilosocereus maxonii (Rose) Byles and Rowley detected six identifiable alkaloids. Preparative TLC aided in the crystallization of the hydrochlorides of N-methyl-3,4-dimethoxyphenethylamine, N-methyl-3-methoxytyramine, and N,N-dimethyl-3-methoxytyramine. Traces of 3,4-dimethoxyphenethylamine (TLC and mass spectrometry), tyramine (TLC), and N-methyltyramine (TLC) were identified. While all of these compounds were isolated and/or detected previously in other cactus species, this study is the first reported crystallization of N-methyl- and N,N-dimethyl-3-methoxytyramine from a natural source.

Glaucium flavum Grantz, population Isfahan, contained four major alkaloids: dicentrine (0.8%), bulbocapnine (0.42%), protopine (0.35%), and salutaridine (0.2%). G. flavum Grantz, population Kazerun, contained four major alkaloids: dicentrine (1.4%), bulbocapnine (0.5%), O-methylflavinantine (0.5%), and salutaridine (0.3%); it also contained two minor alkaloids, protopine and alpha-allocryptonine. O-Methylflavinantine was found for the first time in the Papaveraceae.

Glaucium oxylobum Boiss and Buhse, population Ab-Ali, was demonstrated to contain one major alkaloid, glaucine (0.7%), and two minor alkaloids, O-methylatheroline and predicentrine, in the aerial parts. The root also contains protopine. Glaucine and O-methylatheroline were detected for the first time in this species, and predicentrine was detected for the first time in the Glaucium genus.

Further examination of the cytotoxic alkaloid fractions of Catharanthus trichophyllus roots afforded nine alkaloids. Two of these alkaloids, lochnericine and horhammericine, are responsible for part of the cytotoxic activity. The structure elucidation of cathaphylline, a new beta-anilino acrylate derivative, is described.
