Background: Nursing competence is highly related to patient outcomes and patient safety issues, especially in intensive care units. Competence assessment tools are needed specifically for intensive care nursing. Objective: This study was performed to determine psychometric properties of the Intensive and Critical Care Nursing Competence Scale version-1 between Iranian Nurses. Methods: The present study was a methodological research in which 289 nurses of Intensive Care Units from nine hospitals in Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran were selected between 2015 and 2016. The original version of the scale was translated into Persian and back-translated into English, and the comments of the developer were applied. The validity of the scale was the determined quality (content validity and face validity) and quantity (confirmatory factor analysis). Reliability of the scale was reported by Cronbach's alpha coefficient and Intra class Correlation Coefficient. SPSS-PC (v.21) and LISREL (v.8.5) were used to analyze the data. Results: The intensive and critical care nursing competence scale version-1 is a self-assessment test that consists of 144 items and four domains which are the knowledge base, the skill base, the attitudes and values base and the experience base, which are divided into clinical competence and professional competence. Content and face validity was confirmed by 10 experts and 10 practitioner nurses in the intensive care units. In confirmatory factor analysis, all fitness indexes, except goodness of fit index (0.64), confirmed the four-factor structure of the ICCNCS-1. The results of the factor analysis, load factor between 0.304 and 0.727 items was estimated; only 4 items out of 144 items, that were loaded were less than 0.3 due to high Cronbach's alpha coefficient (0.984-0.986), all items were preserved, no item was removed and 4 subscales of the original scale were confirmed. Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that the Persian version of "The Intensive and Critical Care Nursing Competence Scale version-1" is a valid and reliable scale for the assessment of competency among Iranian nurses, and it can be used as a reliable scale in nursing management, education and research. Introduction: Ethical conflict is one of ICU nurses’ main problems, which rise for several reasons that must be measured. Unfortunately, there is no native instrument for measuring ethical conflicts for ICU nurses in Iran. One of the more suitable and new tools for the measurement of ethical conflict is called the “Ethical Conflict in Nursing Questionnaire: Critical Care Version (ECCNQ-CCV).” This study was aimed to translate and investigate psychometric properties of the ECCNQ-CCV in Iranian nurses. Methods: In this methodological study, after translation and cultural adaptation, face validity, content validity, and construct validity were assessed. Then, internal consistency and stability were measured for reliability. Two software programs (SPSS version 20 and AMOS) were used for data analysis. Result: Face and content validities were acceptable. Confirmatory factor analysis was not fitted. Thus, exploratory factor analysis was done, which showed five factors. However, some of the scenarios in a factor were not compatible with each other, and choosing the fit name for factors was not possible. Thus, all the scenarios were put into one factor, which has been proposed by the developer in the original version. The alpha Cronbach was 0.92 for the total scale. Conclusions: Findings show that the one factor Persian version of the ECNQ-CCV has acceptable psychometric properties. It can be used to evaluate ethical conflicts in Iranian ICU nurses. Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) Responsiveness model showing the ability of health systems in fulfilling people’s expectations in connection with nonclinical aspects is an appropriate pattern to assess healthcare. The purpose of this study was to determine the status of pregnancy care provisions based on the responsiveness model. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted by randomly sampling 130 women visiting selected hospitals in Tehran in 2015. A researcher-made questionnaire based on the responsiveness model of WHO was used to collect data. We determined the face validity and content validity of the questionnaire, and its reliability was confirmed by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient (0.94) and test-retest analysis (0.96). The obtained data were analyzed by SPSS version 20 descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, and Spearman correlation. Results: Total responsiveness from the perspective of service recipients was 69.46±14.65 from 100. The obtained scores showed that, in the range of 0 to 100, 73.02 were about basic amenities (the most score), 72.93 about dignity, 70.91 about communication, 70.76 about confidentiality, 66.30 about provision social needs, 65.96 about choice of provider, 65.92 about autonomy, and 52.65 about prompt attention (the lowest score), which are representing the average level of service quality. There were significant relationships between participating in preparation class of labor and dignity (p<0.001), autonomy (p=0.01), provision social needs (p=0.01), and overall responsiveness (p=0.03). It was obtained that there is a significant linear relationship between scores given to hospitals and dimensions of responsiveness (p=0.05). Findings indicated a significant relationship between insurance type and dimensions of choice of provider (p=0.03) and communication (p=0.03). Conclusion: The mean score of service quality in the present investigation illustrated that nonclinical dimensions have been disregarded and it has potential to be better. Introduction: Family-centered care sustains the unity of the child's and the family's health. The aim of this study was to determine nurses' attitudes toward parents' participation in the care of their hospitalized children in Iran in 2015. Methods: In this experimental study, 200 pediatric nurses from hospitals affiliated with the Shaheed Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran were selected using the multi-stage, random-sampling method. Data were gathered using a questionnaire that covered demographic information and nurses' attitudes. The questionnaire consisted of 31 items and was completed by the nurses in three stages: 1) before intervention (pretest), 2) immediately after intervention (post-test), and 3) three months after intervention (follow-up). The data were analyzed via SPSS software and using descriptive and analytical methods. Descriptive statistics, the Spearman Correlation Coefficient, and Repeated Measure Analysis (the Bonferroni method) were used to assess the data. Results: The results indicated that there was a significant increase in the mean score of attitude after intervention [M (pre) = 3.35%, M (post) = 3.97%, p < 0.001)]. Most of subjects had neutral attitudes toward family participation in their children's care. There were no significant relationship between the nurses' sociodemographic characteristics and their attitudes. Conclusion: The nurses' attitudes toward the family's participation in the care of their hospitalized children were moderate. The nurses' attitudes should be improved by taking part in continuous training programs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
