This article focuses over the dispute between British Columbia College of Teachers (BCCT) and Trinity Western University (TWU) regarding the teacher education programs developed by both of them. The BCCT is an organization that has the authority to certify teachers and approve teacher education programs in the province of British Columbia. TWU wanted to have its teacher education program approved, however their request was denied by the BCCT on the grounds that the Community Standards required of students at TWU include among other things an agreement to refrain from homosexual behavior. The emphasis of the legal arguments advanced by the BCCT to support its position shifted with the decisions of successive courts. The Supreme Court of British Columbia ruled in favor of TWU however the decision was later upheld by the Court of Appeal for British Columbia.
