Abstract

In this paper we present new results on upper limits for the search of Heavy Neutral Leptons (HNL) with data collected by NA48/2 (2003-2004), NA62-RK (2007) and NA62 (2015) CERN experiments. The data collected with different trigger configuration allow to search for both long and short living heavy neutrinos in the mass range below the kaon mass. In addition the status of the search for K+ → π+vv with the NA62 detector will be briefly presented.

Abstract

Flavour physics is one of the most powerful fields for the search of new physics beyond the Standard Model. The kaon sector with the rare decay K+ → π+νν̅ provides one of the cleanest and most promising channels. NA62, a fixed target experiment at the CERN SPS, aims to measure BR (K+ → π+νν̅) with 10% precision to test the Standard Model validity up to an energy scale of hundreds of TeV. NA62 had dedicated data taking for the K+ → π+νν̅ measurement in 2016 and 2017 and will continue in 2018. Here preliminary results on a fraction of 2016 dataset are presented. The analysis of the complete 2016 data sample is expected to achieve the SM sensitivity.

Abstract

© The Authors, published by EDP Sciences. The NA48/2 experiment at CERN has collected large samples of charged kaons decaying into a pion and two muons for the search of heavy nuetrinos. In addition, its successor NA62 has set new limits on the rate of charged kaon decay into a heavy neutral lepton (HNL) and a lepton, with = e, µ, using the data collected in 2007 and 2015. New limits on heavy neutrinos from kaon decays into pions, muons and positrons are presented in this report.

Abstract

NA48/2 results contributing to ChPT testing are presented. A sample of 1663 events of the rare decay $ K^ \pm \to \mu ^ \pm ve^ + e^ - $ has been selected with a minimume+e−effective mass of 140 MeV. The measured model independent decay rate is in agreement with ChPT predictions. The branching ratio of the $ K^ \pm \to \mu ^ \pm ve^ + e^ - $ decay, never observed so far, has been obtained from a sample of about 5000 candidates with less than 6% background, also in agreement with ChPT predictions. In addition, a most precise measurement of the charged kaon semileptonic formfactors has been obtained from 4.4 millionKe3and 2.3 millionKµ3events collected in 2004.

Abstract

This paper reviews recent results form the NA62 and NA48 experiments at CERN. NA62 has searched for the K → πνν¯ with an in-flight decay technique. The analysis of 1.2 · 1011 decays has found one event compatible with the Standard Model prediction, giving an upper limit for the branching ratio of 1.4 · 10-9 (95% CL) in the background assumption. Prospects for improvements in the measurement are given. Results on the Kl3 decay form factors from NA48/2 are presented as well as the first observation of the decay K± → π ± π0e+e- and the measurement of its branching ratio from the same experiment.

Abstract

The precise measurement of the branching ratio of an ultrarare decay K+ → π+vv¯ (~10-10 according to the calculation within the Standard Model) allows to probe New Physics via indirect effects at mass scales higher than those accessible at the LHC. The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is aimed at measuring this branching ratio with the 10% precision. To achieve such level of precision, a novel decay-in-flight technique is used. The statistics collected during the first NA62 physics run in 2016 allowed to demonstrate the proof of the experimental method and obtain O(10-10) single event sensitivity. The preliminary results based on the 2016 data set are described.

Abstract

A precision lepton universality test by measurement of the helicity suppressed ratio of leptonic decay rates of the charged kaon with ∼ 150000 K ± → e ± ν decays collected by the NA62 experiment in 2007-08 is presented. The record accuracy of 0.4% constrains the parameter space of new physics models with extended Higgs sector, a fourth generation of quarks and leptons or sterile neutrinos.An improved upper limit on the rate of the lepton number violating decay K ± → π ∓ μ ± μ ± , which probes the resonant enhancement of the rate in the presence of heavy Majorana neutrinos in the ∼ 100 MeV range, is presented.The rare decays K + → π + νν are excellent processes to make tests of new physics at the highest scale complementary to LHC thanks to their theoretically cleaness. The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS aims to collect of the order of 100 events in two years of data taking, keeping the background at the level of 10%.

Abstract

A sample of $4.687\times 10^6$ fully reconstructed $K^\pm\to\pi^\pm\pi^0_D$, $\pi^0_D\to\gamma e^+e^-$ decay candidates in the kinematic range $m_{ee}>10~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ with a negligible background contamination collected by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN in 2003-04 is analysed to search for the dark photon ($A'$) via the decay chain $K^\pm\to\pi^\pm\pi^0$, $\pi^0\to\gamma A'$, $A'\to e^+e^-$. No signal is observed, and preliminary exclusion limits on space of dark photon mass $m_A'$ and mixing parameter $\varepsilon^2$ are reported., Comment: Talk given at the DHF 2014 conference, Messina, Italy, 24-26 September 2014

Abstract

The NA62 experiment at SPS is a continuation of the long standing CERN kaon physics program. The high statistics and the unprecedent precision allow to probe the Standard Model and test the description of the strong interactions at low energy. The final results on the the lepton universality test by measuring the ratio $R_K = \Gamma(K^{+}\to e^{+}\nu) / \Gamma(K^{+}\to \mu^{+}\nu)$ and the study of the $K^\pm\to\pi^{\pm}\gamma\gamma $ decay are presented. The major goal of the NA62 experiment is to perform a measurement of the $Br(K^{+} \to \pi^{+} \nu \bar{\nu})$ with a precision of 10% in two years of data taking.
