Abstract

After a more theoretical first part, in which key concepts such as hypertext, docuverse, hybrid library and digital document are defined, the volume addresses, in the light of the hypertextual paradigm, all the practical aspects of management and use of digital libraries. This is followed by an overview of the main open questions relating to the future of libraries and documentation (semantic web, open access, reference linking, digital legal deposit, library 2.0, relationship between reading and writing) and the proposal of some innovative solutions in these areas.

Abstract

I'll focus my observations on public libraries and I'll talk about the situation of the access to electronic documents in French libraries. I'll base my speech also upon the remarks about this topic found in professional literature, including that published in France. How can selection, bibliographic description of electronic resources and mediation of librarians reduce users' frustration? It is a fact that the best search engines cover only a third of the Web, the remaining stays invisible and hidden in databases. In this way, librarians are more and more useful for selecting, classifying and providing information.

Abstract

In this article are compared traditional OPAC systems, enriched OPAC, social OPAC and social cataloguing systems.the aim is to underline new theoretical trends and to offer a taxonomic outline of such tools, according to the interaction level granted to users and to the chance to manage user's generated contents in the point of view of the application of web 2.0 tendecies to libraries, in the library 2.0. At the end, a brief review of softwares, both open source and not, that seem promising for this future application.

4. "OPAC italiani" di AIB-WEB si interroga: la risposta è MAI

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to describe the development and first start up of MAI project, occured on 1999, due to a Partnership between AIB and CILEA. MAI was born with the aim of getting support and improving the AIB-WEB “OPAC Italiani” Index, a detailed html list gathering 268 Italian OPACs. They are single queryable, each one from his interface. The Strenght of MAI is immediately clear. It allows to contemporarly query more than one OPAC getting as a result only one Page. This is allowed to AZALAI Search Engine (developed from CILEA) and to MAI Dbase, managed with Informix system. In the Article the main Aspects shown on MAI First Releaseare are finally described.They are shortly reported below: MAI Dbase, OPAC Selection Interface, Querying Form and Result Page.
