This article aims to analyse the cohesive function of Latin alliteration in cases in which it serves as an element for linking together the hemistichs in the same line or hemistichs in adjacent lines. At an extra-versal level, three forms of alliterative cohesion are distinguished: 1) by enjambment (the words sounding the same at the start that belong to the same syntactical unit flow over the limits of the line); 2) by vertical correspondence (the words sounding the same at the start are placed in successive lines where they occupy the same metric position); 3) by concatenation at the end of each line and the beginning of the subsequent line (… X/X… X/X…, etc., or … X/X… Y/Y…, etc.). The alliterative cohesion by concatenation at the end of each line and the beginning of the subsequent line has been studied due to its systematic use in ancient Irish poetry, but not in Latin, where, as it is shown in this article, there is evidence of the phenomenon. The existence of this cohesive procedure in Latin is verified in poets from different literary periods: Lucretius, Vergilius, Silius Italicus, Prudentius and Claudius Claudianus. This type of studied concatenation is also found in Greek poetry (Homer, Hesiod, and Aeschylus). This leads us to surmise that it is a phenomenon inherent to the Indo-European tradition., En este artículo tenemos por objeto analizar la función cohesiva de la aliteración latina en aquellos casos en los que sirve de elemento de unión entre los hemistiquios de un mismo verso o los hemistiquios de versos contiguos. A nivel extraversal, la cohesión aliterante reviste tres modalidades: 1) por encabalgamiento (los términos con inicios homófonos, pertenecientes a una misma unidad sintáctica, traspasan los límites del verso), 2) por correspondencia vertical (los términos con inicios homófonos se colocan en versos sucesivos ocupando una idéntica posición métrica), 3) por concatenación en la cláusula de un verso y el comienzo del sucesivo (X/X… X/X…, etc., o X/X… Y/Y…, etc.). La cohesión de versos contiguos por concatenación en la cláusula de un verso y el comienzo del sucesivo ha sido estudiada por su sistemático uso en la poesía antiguo-irlandesa, pero no en latín, donde, como se muestra en el presente artículo, hay evidencias del fenómeno. La existencia de este mecanismo de cohesión en latín se constata en poetas de diferentes periodos literarios: Lucrecio, Virgilio, Silio Itálico, Prudencio y Claudio Claudiano. Este tipo de concatenación estudiado se da también en la poesía griega (Homero, Hesíodo y Esquilo), lo que nos hace suponer que se trata de un fenómeno de tradición indoeuropea.

From the formal point of view, Claudio Rodríguez’s verse is characterized by the setting in motion of a rhythm that remains part of the tradition, but also renews it through a personal treatment of the classic Castilian meters through different literary devices, among which the enjambment gains importance. It is also remarkable that we are dealing with a poetry that is composed along the way, which has as a consequence that the poet makes recurring references to walking. This paper aims to demonstrate to what extent the work of the poet from Zamora is a perfect example of the inextricable link between the thematic and formal levels. It also shows the identical symbolic impulse that becomes visible in both the anecdotal components of the signified and the rhetorical factors of the signifier., El verso de Claudio Rodríguez se caracteriza por poner en marcha un ritmo que, sin dejar de ser heredero de la tradición, la renueva por medio de un tratamiento personal de los metros castellanos clásicos, a través de diferentes recursos entre los que sobresale el encabalgamiento. Destaca además el hecho de ser una poesía compuesta en el camino y que, en lo temático, hace continuas referencias al motivo del paseo. Este trabajo pretende demostrar hasta qué punto la obra del zamorano es un perfecto ejemplo de la inextricable ligazón entre los niveles temático y formal, bajo los que late un idéntico impulso simbólico que se despliega tanto en los componentes anecdóticos del significado como en los factores retóricos de significante.

This paper focuses on problematic meter practices in the poem “Lo fatal”, mainly scansion anomalies and enjambment examples that defy the Alexandrine verse design and the traditional relevance of line final stress, altogether with its unique stanza structure. It considers a delivery design of line number 8 based on observations of language facts in the study of both Spanish phonetics and meters, and suggests the scansion of line 12 according to inner rhythm in the poem and the use of enjambment in other lines of the same composition, while reviewing its possible sonnet stanza structure denomination., Este trabajo atiende a problemas métricos característicos de «Lo fatal»: anomalías de escansión y casos de encabalgamiento que desafían el modelo de verso y la relevancia acentual que se ha otorgado al axis rítmico en la tradición métrica de nuestra lengua, junto con el llamativo esquema estrófico del poema. A partir de hechos de lengua excepcionales pero naturales, observados tanto en el campo de la fonética del español como en el de su versificación, plantea un modelo de ejecución del verso 8 que reconciliaría el conflicto entre prosodia y ritmo que han observado estudios anteriores. Propone asimismo la escansión del verso 12 a partir de la lógica rítmica del poema y del uso del encabalgamiento en versos anteriores del mismo poema, a la vez que revisa su posible denominación estructural como soneto.
