Curtis Priem, co-founder of Nvidia, is donating over $75 million to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to establish a quantum-computing system on campus. This will be the first such device on a university campus worldwide. Priem's goal is to make New York's Hudson Valley a hub for quantum-computing research, fostering talent and spinoff businesses. RPI has installed an IBM Quantum System One device with 127 qubits, and students and researchers will have access to it for testing and innovation. The presence of the quantum computer could also bolster the region's push to become the headquarters for the National Semiconductor Technology Center. [Extracted from the article]
