The article reports on the failure of the Bank of Japan (BOJ) to obtain its target to purchase 150 billion yen of bank-held corporate bonds in 2009. The central bank offered to purchase bonds with single-A ratings or higher but banks sell only 44.9 billion yen. Mizuho Research Institute senior economist Hirokata Kusaba stated that the BOJ should purchase corporate bonds issued by lower-graded companies. The central bank should increase its purchases of credit products, according to other analysts.
