Abstract

The value of the use of a genetic test in determining long-term treatment using the blood-thinner Plavix has been questioned by two research studies. Plavix is marketed jointly by Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. and Sanofi-Aventis S.A. The reports are advantageous to AstraZeneca PLC, which markets a rival drug, Brilinta, which has been shown to be better than Plavix.

Abstract

Researchers at Stanford University have shown that a genetic test can be taken which will determine a diet most likely to be successful for them. Some people lose weight faster with a low-carbohydrate diet; others with a low-fat diet. The Stanford study showed this by testing 133 women. Interleukin Genetics Inc. has developed the test kit, which is on the market for $166.
