Record spawns of striped bass are being reported in the Atlantic coast, particularly within Chesapeake Bay. Fisheries managers say that the 1994 fish population in the region is healthier than that of the late 1970s and early 1980s and predict a recovered fishery by the 1996-1997 season. However, biologists warn that matured fish should be conserved to ensure good annual spawns. The Maryland Dept. of Natural Resources is also using a spawning stock biomass computer model to monitor the species.
