The focus for RiMG volume 90 is on rocky exoplanets because the search for truly Earth-like planets is of special interest. The goal is to motivate communication between the disciplines so as to make the best use possible of existing data and data yet to be collected by the James Webb and the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescopes, since the astronomy community is gathering data on stars and exoplanets at an accelerating rate. Such data now include exoplanet size and mass (i.e., density) as well as their atmospheric compositions, which are collectively telltale of mineralogy and evolution. Much of what is published may still fall in the realm of educated speculation, but our conjectures are metamorphosing into testable hypotheses. There is now a remarkably large amount of astronomical data (with even more on the way) that geochemists and petrologists can make much use of. But just as astronomers may benefit from geologic insights, geologists need our colleagues in astronomy to help interpret their data and their underlying implications to better understand its astronomical context. Our hopes for this volume will be fulfilled if readers initiate their own analyses of what at present may seem like novel or unusual data, and if new collaborations between academic departments and subfields are forged.

This book examines two questions: firstly, which dictionary type, bilingual or monolingual, is most effective for intermediate learners of German, and secondly, which features make monolingual dictionary definitions more effective. Using Chinese students from Hong Kong and Shanghai as the subjects of research, the effectiveness of the different dictionary types for reading comprehension and incidental vocabulary learning was measured experimentally and by the think-aloud method. The only monolingual learner dictionary for German available at that time proved linguistically too difficult for the intermediate proficiency level. Therefore, new definitions were developed based on findings from the think-aloud study and on principles promoted as user-friendly in lexicographic literature. Comparison of the two definition types revealed several features that determine their effectiveness for intermediate learners. Findings have theoretical and pedagogical implications. In the theoretical field, some lexicographic principles were recommended that are, unlike previous principles, based on empirical insights into user needs. In the pedagogical field, the findings provide an empirical basis for the evaluation and recommendation of suitable dictionaries for intermediate learners.

der Dichter Bruder Wernher wird mit Blick auf die Sangspruchdichtung von der Forschung als einer der Nachfolger Walthers von der Vogelweide angesehen. Lange Zeit waren Wernhers Sangsprüche allein in Anton E. Schönbachs Ausgabe aus den Jahren 1904/05 vollständig enthalten. Die vorliegende Edition arbeitet Wernhers Werk nun nach heutigen Editionsstandards neu auf. Dabei soll die Arbeit von einem möglichst heterogenen Benutzerkreis verwendet werden können und richtet sich an AltgermanistInnen und Studierende, MittelalterhistorikerInnen und SprachwissenschaftlerInnen. Das dreigliedrige Editionskonzept - bestehend aus Transliteration, Normalisierung und Übersetzung/Kommentar - soll dies gewährleisten. In der »Rechtssumme« Bruder Bertholds, einer zwischen 1300 und 1340 verfaßten deutschen Bearbeitung der lateinischen »Summa confessorum« des Johannes von Freiburg, begegnet erstmals die Begrifflichkeit des kanonischen Rechts in deutscher Sprache. Das Wörterbuch will den Zugang zu den Fassungen der »Rechtssumme« von den Einzelwörtern her schaffen. Es ist als Bedeutungswörterbuch angelegt und will als integraler Bestandteil der Gesamtedition gelten. Dem Wörterbuch sind die drei Fassungen der »Rechtssumme« zugrundegelegt; daher sind alle lexikalischen Eigenheiten dieser Versionen erfaßt. Die Belege zu den einzelnen Lemmata werden jeweils als Kontextbelege geboten. Auch Bruder Bertholds lateinische Quelle ist mit einbezogen: wo sich in der »Summa confessorum« ein Äquivalent zum jeweiligen Lemma nachweisen läßt, wird dies beim einzelnen Beleg vermerkt. Außerdem ist der lateinische Bezugstext zusätzlich zum deutschen Kontext der »Rechtssumme« bei der Bedeutungsfindung berücksichtigt. Beigegeben ist ein lateinisch-deutsches Äquivalenzglossar, das die lateinischen Wörter mit ihren deutschen Entsprechungen auflistet, die bei den Einzelbelegen im Wörterbuch angegeben sind.
