Edward Jenner who discovered immunology and the smallpox vaccine conducted a smallpox vaccination test in 1796, which is considered a landmark in the history of modern immunization. This review focuses on describing Jenner and his accomplishments highlighting his discovery as a shift in the approaches toward disease control and prevention as well as the basis for further eradicating smallpox globally. Jenner's use of cowpox to protect people from smallpox was a revolution from other essential procedures such as variolation. His vaccine demonstrated how immunization could be used to combat diseases, and over the years the idea began to be deployed to other vaccines and other diseases. Besides the given medical profession, the work of Jenner was relevant to the changes or even enhancements of health policies and health systems globally. Introduction: Breast cancer (BC) is among the most prevalent oncological cases in the world, and the global burden of the disease is expected to rise further in the coming years. Strategies aiming at early diagnosis, backed by research and a well-trained healthcare cadre, can aid low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) in tackling the possible cancer-caused strain on healthcare systems. Our study aimed to evaluate the level of knowledge of medical students concerning BC and explore barriers and facilitators of breast self-examination (BSE)., Methods: A sequential explanatory mixed-methods study approach to better understand factors and beliefs influencing preventive health practice in BSE was conducted among students at a medical college in rural Maharashtra, India. One hundred and two female medical students completed the quantitative phase, and 15 of them gave in-depth interviews (IDIs) for the qualitative aspect., Results: Among the participants, 67.6% had good knowledge of risk factors, but only 10% knew the recommendations for BSE, clinical breast examination (CBE), and mammography. We found that being taught BSE by a trusted source and knowing a BC patient were significant facilitators. In contrast, lack of self-efficacy and two fear factors were found to be acting as barriers for BSE, one being the absence of fear of ever getting BC and the other fear of detecting a lump., Conclusion: This study reveals a gap between knowledge of risk factors and their translation to disease prevention practice. The barriers elicited are modifiable by planning and implementing an appropriate training program covering risk factors and recommending all available screening and preventative modalities. Numerous studies suggest that diets low in carbohydrates are safe and can greatly enhance the management of both forms of diabetes as well as the general health of those who have the disease. Globally, there has been a notable surge in the prevalence of diabetes cases as a result of factors such as population growth, aging, urbanization, rising obesity rates, and declining physical activity. Diabetes can be controlled in large part by diet, and millets having low-glycemic index (GI) have become more significant as they release glucose into the bloodstream at a very slow rate. Eating practices have long been acknowledged for their important role in promoting health and wellness through the consumption of nutrient-dense meals. Agriculture is one of the most hazardous occupations, with many workers experiencing occupational accidents and ill health. The misuse of toxic substances, often due to inadequate protective measures, raises concerns about both individual and nature safety. However, the strenuous tasks done by the agricultural workers, especially those related to pesticide exposure and some challenges affect the farmer's health and well-being. This review paper used databases like PubMed and Google Scholar to elaborate this. English language studies are included and other languages are excluded. In India, a sizeable share of the female population is in the postmenopausal or perimenopausal stage. Issues related to aging in women are an increased risk of broken bones, a decrease in cortical and cancellous bone thickness, and a decrease in bone mineral density (BMD). Osteoporosis has a severely detrimental effect on the life of women, lowering their standard of living, decreasing the quality of their lives, and increasing their likelihood of fractures. It can be terrible if the fracture affects the hip or the spine since it could leave you immobile. Postmenopausal osteoporosis is related to lack of estrogen and lack of eggs produced by ovaries seen with increasing age. After many years of study, the role of estrogen is now well established in bone remodelling. Estrogen contributes to the resorption and strengthening of bone. It detects less density of bone at specific site and helps in strengthening the bone at that location. Treatment choices are based on severity, rate of advancement, and individual patient-specific characteristics. Standard electroencephalography (EEG) and recordings in presurgical electrode depth in humans provide a clear definition of patterns similar to focal seizures. Models of animals with partial seizures and epilepsy mimic seizure patterns with comparable characteristics. However, the network factors supporting interictal spikes, as well as the start, development, and end of seizures remain obscure. It is believed that 9-18% of patients with hypertension have resistant hypertension, a serious medical disease. The increased cardiovascular risk associated with this illness demands appropriate diagnosis and treatment. This is crucial in order to establish the diagnosis and make the best decisions regarding therapy. The Government of India has taken steps to reduce the number of people using tobacco products by introducing the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act. This law states that all tobacco products must display health warnings on their packaging. Despite this, many people in India still use tobacco products. Graphic health warnings on tobacco packaging and labeling can be an effective way to spread awareness about the risks associated with smoking. Pictures or pictograms should be included on all products, as this can be particularly helpful for those with limited literacy skills. This way, everyone can understand the dangers of tobacco use, even if they cannot read. This review examines the effectiveness of pictures on cigarette and other tobacco product packages as health warnings in India. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a highly prevalent macular condition that primarily affects the older population. It is the primary cause of blindness amongst the elderly population. It is an inflammatory disease that characteristically shows choroidal neovascularization and geographic atrophy. The exact pathomechanism of developing AMD is not known. However, certain factors such as increased age, smoking, genetic factors and certain environmental factors are usually associated with the development of the disease. AMD also involves oxidative stress-mediated destruction of retinal pigment epithelial cells and, consequently, that of retinal photoreceptors. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a degenerative disorder involving the nervous system that usually affects people aged 65 and over. Both AMD and AD are age-related, degenerative conditions that have several similarities and share many of the same risk factors such as vascular conditions like arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure and obesity. It is believed that the early emergence of the clinical manifestations of AMD and AD may also be significantly influenced by oxidative stress and genetic polymorphism in complement factor H. A common pathogenic pathway between AD and AMD is quite likely. Amyloid-β is an aberrant protein that accumulates within the brains of Alzheimer's patients and appears as plaques on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These plaques are a pathognomonic sign of Alzheimer's disease. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic caused a global crisis, creating the most challenging times faced by any country. The pandemic created a situation that shocked the whole world. It led to a condition of fear, and the ones to take the major hit were the vulnerable groups: children, pregnant women, and the elderly, as well as those belonging to low socio-economic groups who lost their source of daily income. It increased the pressure on already burdened healthcare and information systems and led to a situation where the well-being of even children and pregnant women could not be maintained. COVID-19 increased the risk of undernutrition in children. Though children are observed to be less affected by the virus, they are the hidden victims of the pandemic in terms of falling prey to undernutrition. Child undernutrition can also be linked to maternal malnutrition, starting from the preconception period through the postpartum period. The situation arose due to the rapid steps of mitigation taken to tackle the pandemic, leading to decreased food security, healthcare, and education. Maternal undernutrition leads to complications for the mother during childbirth and has long-term effects on both. It can lead to low birth weight (LBW) babies, postpartum complications, chronic child undernourishment, and even increased maternal and child mortality and morbidity. Because of the pandemic's disruption of immunization facilities, it appears that even preventable childhood diseases will worsen in the coming years. This narrative review aims to gain insight into why migrant workers face out-of-pocket expenditures on health and explore the inclusion of migrant workers in the existing healthcare system in India. For the literature search, databases like PubMed and Google Scholar were used to find relevant articles. This review will be helpful from the public health perspective in illustrating the need for studies and research on the health rights of migrant workers, their healthcare finances, and the social protection of such vulnerable populations who are poor and marginalized. Due to various health disparities, migrant workers may incur unforeseen out-of-pocket costs for the household healthcare system. Health insurance enhances the likelihood of accessing healthcare and minimizes out-of-pocket expenses on inpatient services. Patients' visits to primary healthcare facilities are not increased by health insurance; hospitals remain the primary healthcare provider. Most interstate migrant workers remain unprotected and burdened by the cost of healthcare due to OOP payments in case of medical emergencies. Introduction Menstruation is an essential phenomenon in an adolescent girl's life. In India, females who are menstruating are considered impure and teenage girls are not allowed to undertake home chores or engage in religious or cultural events during their period. Up-to-date knowledge about menstruation, beginning in early adolescence, would improve safe practices and relieve the distress of millions of women. Material and methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among adolescent girls (10-19 years) residing in a tribal area of Nagpur District from January to March 2022. Three tribal residential schools (Ashram Shala) were selected from a total of six in Hingana Taluka of Nagpur District, using simple random sampling to fulfill the required sample size of 272. Demographic details, age at menarche, awareness of menstruation, sources of information about menstruation, menstrual hygiene practices, and restrictions observed during menstruation were assessed. Results The average age at menarche was 13.04+0.96 years (range 11-16 years). Only 45.17% of girls were aware of the menarche and menstrual cycle before its onset. The duration of the menstrual cycle ranged from 21-35 days in most of the girls (90.69%), and it was regular in 85.86% of girls. Duration of bleeding was two to six days for the majority of the girls (87.93%). Around 73.79% of girls were using sanitary pads, while 26.21% of girls were using clothes. The most important restrictions imposed on the girls during menstruation were not being allowed to attend religious functions (97.93%), followed by not being allowed to attend classes (65.86%). The use of sanitary pads was significantly more in late adolescent girls than in early adolescent girls (ꭓ 2 =14.97, p=0.0001), girls who have literate mothers than girls with illiterate mothers (ꭓ 2 =5.17, p=0.02), and girls belonging to higher socioeconomic classes (class I, II, III) than lower ones (class IV, V) (ꭓ 2 =44.23, p<0.0001). Conclusion The tribal adolescent girls still don't exercise proper hygiene throughout their periods. Sodium valproate is a sodium salt of valproic acid. It is often used in the medical treatment of several conditions like epilepsy, bipolar disorder, mania, and migraines. This review debates whether the usage of valproic acid is appropriate in pregnancy. It also lists the various neonatal deformities and other teratogenic effects the said drug presents due to prenatal exposure to the drug and the implications of continuing drug therapy in certain situations. We should often weigh the outcomes and implement it only in conditions where its use is inevitable. It also includes the importance of awareness among middle-aged women with mental illness regarding the teratogenic effects of sodium valproate use and the relevance of discussion by physicians with patients regarding the usage of this drug despite being aware of the complications. It also explores other treatment options and modalities that can be used in the place of valproic acid for epilepsy and bipolar disorder in pregnant women and women of the reproductive age group, and how we can mitigate the usage of this drug by implementing various measures by referring to various guidelines present in different areas of the world. The 21 st  century has seen a spike in virus outbreaks. The Coronavirus infection in 2019, originating from Wuhan Province, China, spread across the world and was declared a pandemic. It led to the imposition of lockdowns in different parts of the world, as lockdowns were an effective and essential way to break down the cycle of infection. Physical distancing was the most significant measure to break the infection cycle. The Coronavirus infection outbreak has seen a concurrent spike in mental health risks worldwide. Mental health is considered to be one of the important components of overall health issues. A good mental health state is when people are stable with the environment and should not be effortlessly upset. They should know their requirements, difficulties, and goals properly; if they face problems, a trial should be done to solve them logically to cope with stress and anxiety. COVID-19 has set off a wide variation of mental issues, for example, anxiety, panic disorder, and depression. The coronavirus pandemic has caused a devastating impact across the planet. Millions of lives lost and economic structures are struggling to remain afloat. Clinical effects of SARS CoV-2 virus include tiredness, fatigue, headache, cough, loss of appetite, fever, loss of sensations of taste, and smell as well as other respiratory difficulties. Pulmonary complications of coronavirus infections result in severe pneumonia with the final sequelae being sepsis, and end-stage respiratory failure. Further cardiovascular, neurological, hematological, and gastrointestinal complications build up to cause the demise of the immune system ultimately leading to death of the affected individual. The attack of the virus and the resultant reaction of the epithelial cells lining the respiratory tract have been in the limelight of most studies pertaining to the pandemic. However, a lesser number of studies have detailed the muscular and osseous pathologies that appear post-coronavirus infection. Inflammation post-infection, across the organ systems, may appear as a link to bone and joint pathology. Myalgia is a typical COVID-19 infection symptom. On the contrary, other musculoskeletal signs have very seldom been reported. Multimodality imaging techniques stand a chance at showing the diagnosis and the degree of follow-up after evaluation. Apart from myalgia, there are cases of arthralgia, myopathies, and neuropathies. According to numerous reports, there is the possibility of a link between the current drug regimen used to treat the SARS-CoV-2 infection and the musculoskeletal manifestations observed. Glaucoma can be described as a set of progressive optic neuropathies. They cause a gradual, irreversible loss of the field of view, which concludes in complete blindness. Evidence suggests that patients who have glaucoma face a greater risk of suffering from senile dementia. Dementia is a group of conditions that occur in old age individuals. Neurodegeneration is a characteristic pathological feature of dementia, the progression of which causes a decline in cognition, which may be accompanied by memory loss. Severe dementia in old individuals usually presents as Alzheimer's disease, which significantly contributes to a load of dementia in India. Parkinsonism is another common neurodegenerative disease that is known to occur in the elderly. The WNT (Wingless-related integration site)/β-catenin pathway is a multistep process that is responsible for the regulation of various cellular functions. Lithium can up-regulate this pathway by disrupting Glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β). This action of Lithium can effectively counteract neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. The current use of Lithium remains majorly confined to its use for episodes of mania in bipolar disorder (BD). However, recent literature gives insight into how Lithium can improve the visual field in glaucomatous eyes. Symptomatic improvement after lithium administration is seen as it has neuroprotective actions on the retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). Prolonged lithium use improves axonal regeneration and neuronal survival. Lithium also improves the worsening of symptoms in other dementia-related neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinsonism. The physiological actions of Lithium can be utilized in providing effective, holistic therapy options in pathologically related senile degenerative disorders.
