Purpose: The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are prognostic factors for various types of cancer. In this study, we assessed the association of NLR and PLR with the prognosis of small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) in patients who received the standard treatment. Material and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients who were diagnosed with SCLC and treated with the standard chemotherapy at Suleyman Demirel University Chest Diseases and Dr. Suat Seren Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery. Results: In total, 136 patients were evaluated. Patients' clinic characteristics and hematologic tests data at initial diagnosis were collected. The univariate analysis of all SCLC patients indicated that favorable prognostic factors were gender, disease stage, the number of metastatic sites, good performance status and received treatment according to the stage. Purpose: Acute cerebrovascular diseases is an important reason of mortality and morbidity. Aortic stiffness is a important predictor of cerebrovascular, cardiovascular (CV) and all cause death, deadly and non-deadly coronary and neurologic situations, and severe strokes. In our study, we researched the association between aortic stiffness index (ASI) and stroke seriousness in acute ischemic stroke patients. Materials and Methods: A total of 97 patients (females, 55; males, 42; 65 ± 16 years) with acute ischemic stroke were enrolled in this study. 17 patients were excluded. 80 patients were evaluated. Subjects were categorized into two groups according to the calculated NIHSS score (Group 1, NIHSS score < 16; Group 2, NIHSS score ≥ 16). Clinical characteristics, echocardiographic and laboratory parameters for all patients were evaluated. Cardiac parameters and aortic stiffness index were evaluated by two-dimensional echocardiography within 48 hours of hospitalization to the neurology clinic. Results: There were no significant differences among the groups for age, gender, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking, SBP, DBP, heart rate, dyslipidemia, infarct volume, troponin, HbA1c, glucose, creatinine, LDL cholesterol were significantly higher in Group 2 patients than in Group 1 patients. LV wall thickness, aortic stiffness index, E/e’ were significantly higher in Group 2 patients than in Group 1 patients. LVEF was significantly lower in Group 2 patients than in Group 1 patients. Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between myocardial function assessed by tissue Doppler imaging myocardial performance index (TDI-MPI) and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Materials and Methods: The study comprised 128 patients (males, 55; females, 73; 68 ± 19 years) with acute ischemic stroke. 20 patients were excluded. Patients were divided into two groups based on the calculated NIHSS score (Group 1, NIHSS score < 16; Group 2, NIHSS score ≥ 16). Demographic, clinical, and laboratory data for all patients were collected. Cardiac function was evaluated by transthorasic echocardiography within 48 hours of admission to the neurology care unit.Results: There were no significant differences among demographic parameters of patients. Tissue Doppler myocardial performance index was significantly higher in Group 2 patients than in Group 1 patients (0.62±0.28 vs 0.46±0.16).Conclusion: Our results suggest that TDI-MPI is associated with stroke severity on admission in patients with acute ischemic stroke. TDI-MPI is an indicator of global myocardial dysfunction with a different from LVEF. TDI-MPI, which includes both systolic and diastolic time intervals to assess the global cardiac dysfunction.
