Using bibliometric techniques, the paper attempts to study 1,573 paintings and drawings by Rabindranath Tagore available at Rabindra-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati. Rabindranath paintings cover 27 themes. The distribution of themes do not follow Bradford law. He has drawn seventy-one types of figures and seven types of human faces. He used various colours and materials for his pictures. Only pen ink was used by him 466 paintings. In others, pen ink was used along with 21 combinations. Plain paper, cards, silk, wood, wooden box, wooden board, varnished paper, glazed paper, exercise book, pasted card, pasted paper were used for painting including the back of a letter. Rabindranath signed 903 paintings in Bengali, 53 in English, and two both in Bengali and English. He did not sign on 615 of his paintings. Of the 1,573 paintings, Rabindranath mentioned places of paintings only in 48 cases, of which 29 places are in India. 1150 paintings do not reveal the dates. From the dated paintings it appears that Rabindranath on some dates created five to six paintings. Rabindranath gave titles to his paintings only in 46 cases. All these titles are in Bengali. Jan Hendrik Oort is recognized as one of the greatest astronomers of the 20th century. His 225 publications that appeared during 1922-1992 are analyzed. Most of the papers of the scientist (N= 170) are non-collaborative. Oort's first paper was published in 1922 at the age of 23. The period 1957-1961, when Oort was 58-62 years old, was his most productive period (nearly 5 papers per year). From the period of 7th to 13th quinquennium (age 53-87) he produced nearly 4 to 5 papers per year. In the byline of authors his status ranged from first to third and ninth. Oort's research team comprised of 67 collaborators. C. A. Muller and G.W. Rougoor were his leading collaborators. Most of his papers were published in journals, mostly emanating from Netherlands (N=71), USA (N=55) and UK (27) etc. The publication concentration is 2.27 and publication density 16.16. V L Kalyane is one of the pioneers of biobibliometric studies in India. This study presents scientometric analysis of 120 papers of Kalyane published during 1973-2009 with 338 co-authors. He has to his credit, 20 single-authored and 100 multiauthored papers. His studies covered 17 renowned scientists, 9 Nobel laureates and one philosopher. His highest productivity is about 7 papers per year during 1993-1997 when his age was between 39-43 years and second highest productivity is about 6 papers per year during 2003-2007 when his age was between 49-53 years. The highest productivity coefficient is 1.0 during 1978-81, 1996, 1999-2003 and 2005-2009. Kalyane had 50 collaborators of which Vijay Kumar, E R Prakasan, B S Kademani, Anil Sagar and Anil Kumar were the most active or core collaborators. He used 65 communication channels to disseminate the results of his research of which Malaysian Journal of Library and Information Sciences (11 papers) tops of the list followed by Annals of Library and Information Studies (7 papers), Scientometrics (6 papers), SRELS Journal of Information Management (6 papers) and http:/eprints.rclis.org/archive/(open access archives) (6 papers). An attempt has been made to test whether crop science literature follows Bradford law. The dataset comprised 10,100 papers indexed in Indian Science Abstracts and CAB Abstracts during the period 1965-2010. A ranked list of journals has been prepared and Leimkuhler test was conducted. The list of core journals is provided. The dataset does not follow Bradford law even with Leimkuhler formulation. The crops covered are rice, wheat, barley, maize, sorghum and millets. Traces the origin of the term librametry. Shows how librametry has helped Ranganathan to develop the staff formula for different libraries, and it can help in decision making relating to the establishment of rural and branch libraries; dormitory and service libraries. His maintenance of statistics of various library activities showed the growth pattern of library collection, use of the collection by users, busy and very busy hours in the circulations and reference sections, and so on. He also developed a method for optimal procurement of books for every department in the university. Ranganathan also showed statistically that on average Colon class numbers are shorter than DC class numbers. With the passage of time bibliometrics overshadowed librametrics. Ranganathan did not define librametrics, neither he isolated its components. The lacunae have been filled in this article. The paper highlights the publication productivity of Rabindranath Tagore, the Nobel Laureate poet of India. He has published 199 Bengali books during 1878-1941 and 36 titles were published posthumously making it 235 Bengali books to his credit. In his seventies (the last decade of his life), when he ventured into the world of painting, surprisingly his literary productivity increased considerably instead of going down. He published as many as 55 books apart from producing 2000+ paintings. Tagore's productivity encompassed all branches of literature, i.e. poems, dramas, letters, novels, essays, songs, travelogues, comedies, short stories, addresses, textbooks and autobiography. His productivity coefficient for Bengali books is 0.84 which indicates that he had a steady publication record throughout his literary career. He has published 91 out of 95 short stories in 16 communication channels. The paper presents the results of the analysis of 49 books of Prof. C N R Rao, published during 1960 to 2013. The analysis shows that 18 books were written by him singly or jointly with other scientists. The rest (N=31) are works produced under his solo or joint editorship. Thirty five books were published abroad and 14 in India (11 from Delhi) World Scientific published 8 books, Wiley VCH published 4 books, Academic Press and Indian National Science Academy published 3 each, and the rest were published by 22 other publishers. His first book was published at the age of 27. Most of the books were authored by him during his 50s (16 books) and 70s (12 books). All his books were published in English. However, a number of books have been translated into Russian, Chinese, Hindi and Kannada. The popularity of his books can be gauged from the fact that two of his books have run into fourth edition, one to third edition, and five books to second edition. The article presents the top library and information science journals (LIS) published from India. These include "Annals of Library and Information Studies, "DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology" and "Information Studies." They publish research papers, short communications, editorials, obituaries, book reviews and reports of conferences and seminars.

This paper briefly traces the hundred years journey of Indian LIS periodicals. In all, 186 periodicals have been found to be published since 1912, of which 63 periodicals have ceased publication and the remaining 123 are continuing. The oldest periodical entitled Library Miscellany was started in the year 1912 from Baroda and ceased after eight years, in 1920. Another periodical entitled Granthalaya Sarvaswamu that started in 1915 from Vijayawada is still continuing. It is a bilingual periodical and publishes articles both in English and Telugu. This periodical may be reckoned as the oldest Indian LIS periodical today. A few of the periodicals are indexed in well known indexing, abstracting and bibliographic databases. It is observed that most journals were from Delhi followed by West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Nearly eighty percent periodicals are in English, while 17% are multilingual (English with one or more regional languages). The leading regional language is Bengali followed by Marathi and Hindi. It is found that 78% periodicals appear in printed form, 10% in online electronic form and 12% publications appear in both printed and electronic form. Also, 93% periodicals are found as closed access publication, while only 7% are open access. Among Indian LIS periodicals, 35% are (quarterly) and 31% (bi-annual). The proportion of monthly and annual periodicals is 9% each. Mushrooming of open access LIS periodicals has been observed since 2010. This paper highlights a new interpretation of dynamic state of subject from the viewpoint of Ranganathan's theory. Ranganathan introduced the following three concepts in order to describe the state of subject, viz., continuous infinite universe, spiral model of subject development and idea plane. These three concepts together depict four dimensions of a subject starting from its birth. The name given to these three concepts together is Ranganathan's three-tier description of subject. The coverage of Indian science and technology (S&T) periodicals in major international indexing and abstracting (I&A) services has been studied. It is found that about 1200 Indian S&T journals are being covered by at least one of the international I&A services and over 300 S&T journals are openly accessible. However, coverage of Indian S&T journals by major citation databases, Web of Science (WoS) & Scopus is relatively poor. Quantitative documentation of the research papers of Nayana Nanda Borthakur published in peer-reviewed journals during 1963-2005 reveals a total of 106 papers to his credit. Collaborative authorship pattern is found to be in the team size of 2-5. Twenty five are single authored papers, 33 two authored, 27 three authored, 17 four authored and four papers are five authored. Two and three authored papers constitute nearly 57% of the total authorship of his papers while single author papers are nearly 10% of the total authorship. Most active researchers in the research group of NN Bortahkur were Arnold NP, Al-Kanani T, Bhartendu S, Donnelly DJ, and Sarjaz-Raeini, M. Collaborative coefficient is 0.76 and productivity coefficient is 0.65 and 54 channels of communication were used to publish his research results of which International Journal of Biometeorology (15) tops the list followed by the Journal of Nuclear Agriculture and Biology (8) and Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis (7). His fifty percentile age is found to be 28 years. Publication concentration is 18.5 and publication density is 2. As depicted in the title tomography, the core area of research was related to evaporation, air ions, electrohydrodynamics (EHD), microwave irradiation, beta-ray gauge technique among others. Bibliometric studies with dedication pages are hard to come by. Hence, this study was taken up to find out types of dedicatees, dedication pattern, trend of dedication, chronological distribution of dedications, subject-wise distribution of dedications and reasons of dedications. Some of the findings are quite interesting. Parents top the list among dedicatees, followed by spouses, teachers, children, friends, students, and so on. It is also to be noted that some authors of religious books have dedicated their books to gods, goddesses and saints. The country, countrymen, martyrs and leaders have also figured in the dedication pages of some books penned by patriots. Rabindranath Tagore, the world-famous poet, is also considered as the pioneer of rural development programme in India. He started rural reconstruction project at Sriniketan in 1921 aiming to make villagers self-reliant and self-respecting, and competent to make efficient use of resources for the fullest development of their physical, social, economic and intellectual potential and abilities; and to get them acquainted with the cultural tradition of their own. For this purpose Tagore laid full emphasis on collection and dissemination of information. The present paper is an attempt to highlight how information on rural Bengal was collected, disseminated and utilized for preparing rural development plan and its implementation. While cataloguing a multi-authored publication according to AACR II, the names of second author onwards are dropped in case there are more than three authors (two authors in the case of CCC) responsible for the book. The same is the case with the collaborators. It is argued that in the changed context brought about by information technology, there is no need to drop any of the authors/collaborators responsible for the book. Inclusion of all the authors/collaborators in the catalogue will ensure giving credit to all of them. Moreover, this will help a great deal in the compilation of a personal bibliography based on library catalogues. Quite often need arises to search a catalogue with place of publication, publisher, year of publication, language of the document and so on. Sometimes, it also becomes necessary to search from a book, a portrait, an illustration of a famous building, a rare map not available in the general atlases, and so on. The impact factor of Acta Crystallographica Section A jumped from 2.051 in 2008 to 49.926 in 2009. It may be noted that in 2009 this journal had the highest impact factor among all the journals indexed in Journal Citation Reports. Even in 2010, the journal ranked second with impact factor 54.333. A letter to the editor is presented in response to an article about the 11 Indian journals covered by the 2007 Science Citation Index (SCI) data by S. C. Garg, B. Dutt and Suresh Kumar in the September 2006 issue.

Published letters written by Rabindranath Tagore counts to four thousand ninety eight. Besides family members and Santiniketan associates, Tagore wrote to different personalities like litterateurs, poets, artists, editors, thinkers, scientists, politicians, statesmen and government officials. These letters form a substantial part of intellectual output of 'Tagoreana' (all the intellectual output of Rabindranath). The present paper attempts to study the growth pattern of letters written by Rabindranath and to find out whether it follows Bradford's Law. It is observed from the study that Rabindranath wrote letters throughout his literary career to three hundred fifteen persons covering all aspects such as literary, social, educational, philosophical as well as personal matters and it does not strictly satisfy Bradford's bibliometric law. Tries to find the pattern of change of keywords of an arbitrary science subject with its age. The mode of temporal evolution of a subject is formulated on the basis of some fundamental assumptions. It has been mathematically derived that the number of keywords of a subject will always tend to attain a saturation value with the age of the subject. This paper is based on an analytical study of 335 keywords extracted from titles and abstracts of 70 research articles, taking ten from each year starting from 2000 to 2006, in decreasing order of relevance, on the subject fermi liquid, which is a specific subject under the broad area of condensed matter physics. The research articles have been collected from the bibliographic database of INSPEC. The keywords are indexed to critically examine their physical structure that is composed of three fundamental kernels, viz. keyphrase, modulator and qualifier. The keyphrase reflects the central concept, which is usually post-coordinated by the modulator to amend the central concept in accordance with the relevant context. The qualifier comes after the modulator to describe the particular state of the central concept and/or amended concept. The keywords are further classified in 16 classes on the basis of the four parameters, viz., associativeness, chronological appearance, frequency of occurrence and category. Five laws of library science formulated by Ranganathan have with time and environment been changing the form. A number of forms advanced by learned scholars are presented in the article. Considering the fact that the Laws are finding application beyond the confine of library science, a generalized form has been suggested with five examples basing which any other form can be created as per the need. It has been observed that during the last half a century, UDC has become more comprehensive on the one hand and more complex on the other; more class numbers have been vacated than filled up; verbal expressions (verbexes) of class numbers in large number of cases are riddled with superfluous words, sentence-like expressions, out-of-date headings, unnecessary clusters, inappropriate, confusing and misplaced headings. As a result many of them are not index-friendly not even index-worthy. Suggestions have been put forth to ensure more simple class numbers, relocate some classes to more logical positions, reduction in the length of many class numbers, and index-friendly subject headings.
