During the last years, many solutions have been proposed for 3D Virtual Heritage representations. Recently, also new technologies for online gaming evolved, based on javascript libraries (WebGL), used to create and publish virtual interactive environments. They are based on recent Web browser's functionalities, surpassing some limitations of VRML technologies. On the side of geospatial information, technology has evolved from desktop GIS to 2D WebGIS and globe applications. The use of globe applications is, today, very diffused due to its immediate and at the same time impressive representation of the earth surface and territories. These technologies have been, also, applied to Virtual Heritage 3D reconstructions, to improve the fruition of Cultural Heritage (CH), with the achievement of interesting results. The topic of this paper is the experimentation on the fusion between globe based and gaming technologies (in our case WebGL) that allow achieving a more user-centric and powerful solution useful for publishing 3D geospatial information of CH on Web. This choice allows obtaining GIS oriented 3D models, typical of globe applications, and, at the same time, a more immersive exploration of CH and its surrounding environment. In particular, it also gives complementary text and multimedia information on the history, architectural features of each cultural good, based on querying of semantic information. The test field of the research is the construction of the 3D GIS virtual globe model of the Manfredonic Castle of Mussomeli (Sicily-Italy), developed for PON-NEPTIS EU Project, to compare open-source technologies and commercial proprietary applications. To address the difficulty involved when using existing commercial Geographic Information System platforms to integrate multisource image data fusion, this research proposes the loading of multi-source local tile data based on CesiumJS and examines the tile data organization mechanisms and spatial reference differences of the CesiumJS platform, as well as various tile data sources, such as Google maps, Map World, and Bing maps. Two types of tile data loading schemes have been designed for the mashup of tiles, the single data source loading scheme and the multi-data source loading scheme. The multi-sources of digital map tiles used in this paper cover two different but mainstream spatial references, the WGS84 coordinate system and the Web Mercator coordinate system. According to the experimental results, the single data source loading scheme and the multi-data source loading scheme with the same spatial coordinate system showed favorable visualization effects; however, the multi-data source loading scheme was prone to lead to tile image deformation when loading multi-source tile data with different spatial references. The resulting method provides a low cost and highly flexible solution for small and medium-scale GIS programs and has a certain potential for practical application values. Geospatial data visualization systems have been predominantly through applications that are installed and run in a desktop environment. Over the last decade, with the advent of web technologies and its adoption by Geospatial community, the server-client model for data handling, data rendering and visualization respectively has been the most prevalent approach in Web-GIS. While the client devices have become functionally more powerful over the recent years, the above model has largely ignored it and is still in a mode of serverdominant computing paradigm. In this paper, an attempt has been made to develop and demonstrate LSIViewer - a simple, easy-to-use and robust online geospatial data visualisation system for the user's own data that harness the client's capabilities for data rendering and user-interactive styling, with a reduced load on the server. The developed system can support multiple geospatial vector formats and can be integrated with other web-based systems like WMS, WFS, etc. The technology stack used to build this system is Node.js on the server side and HTML5 Canvas and JavaScript on the client side. Various tests run on a range of vector datasets, upto 35MB, showed that the time taken to render the vector data using LSIViewer is comparable to a desktop GIS application, QGIS, over an identical system. The VAST (valorisation of history and landscape) project (http://vast.fbk.eu/) was part of the initiatives promoted by the Autonomous Province of Trento (Italy) for the commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the First World War (WWI) outbreak. The project was primarily aimed to document and promote, through 3D digitization approaches and communication material, the memory of sites, theatre of the world conflict. The Italian Trento's p rovince had been under the Austro-Hungarian Empire until the end of the WWI, during which represented a crucial and bloody war front between the Aust rian and Italian territories. The region was constellated of military fortresses, trenches and tunnels, most of them now ruined and at risk to slowly disappear. 3D surveying and modelling techniques have been exploited to produce 3D digital models of structures and objects, along with virtual tours, communication material and a WebGIS of the area. The presented work is part of the research project, titled "Tecniche murarie tradizionali: conoscenza per la conservazione ed il miglioramento prestazionale" (Traditional building techniques: from knowledge to conservation and performance improvement). This research project has the purpose of studying the building techniques of the 13th - 18th centuries in the Sardinia Region (Italy) for their knowledge, conservation, and promotion. The end purpose of the entire study is to improve the performance of the examined structures. In particular, the task of the authors within the research project was to build a WebGIS to manage the data collected during the examination and study phases. This infrastructure was entirely built using Open Source software. The work consisted of designing a database built in PostgreSQL and its spatial extension PostGIS, which allows storing and managing feature geometries and spatial data. The data input is performed via a form built in HTML and PHP. The HTML part is based on Bootstrap, an open tools library for websites and web applications. The implementation of this template used both PHP and Javascript code. The PHP code manages the reading and writing of data to the database, using embedded SQL queries. The database is published on the Internet as a WebGIS built using the Leaflet Javascript open libraries, which allows creating map sites with background maps and navigation, input and query tools. This too uses an interaction of HTML, Javascript, PHP and SQL code. The Database can be accessed in QGIS via a PostgreSQL connection. As of today, we surveyed and archived more than 300 buildings, belonging to three main macro categories: fortification architectures, religious architectures, residential architectures. On the occasion of the First World War centennial, GeoSNav Lab (Geodesy and Satellite Navigation Laboratory), Department of Engineering and Architecture, University of Trieste, Italy, in coooperation with Radici&Futuro Association, Trieste, Italy, carried out an educational Project named "Historic Up" involving a group of students from "F. Petrarca" High School of Trieste, Italy. The main goal of the project is to make available to students of Middle and High Schools a set of historical and cultural contents in a simple and immediate way, through the production of a virtual and interactive tour following the event that caused the burst of the First World War: the assassination of Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sofia in Sarajevo occurred on June 28, 1914. A set of Google Apps was used, including Google Earth, Maps, Tour Builder, Street View, Gmail, Drive, and Docs. The Authors instructed the students about software and team-working and supported them along the research. After being checked, all the historical and geographic data have been uploaded on a Google Tour Builder to create a sequence of historical checkpoints. Each checkpoint has texts, pictures and videos that connect the tour-users to 1914. Moreover, GeoSNaV Lab researchers produced a KML (Keyhole Markup Language) file, formed by several polylines and points, representing the itinerary of the funeral procession that has been superimposed on ad-hoc georeferenced historical maps. This tour, freely available online, starts with the arrival of the royals, on June 28th 1914, and follows the couple along the events, from the assassination to the burial in Arstetten (Austria), including their passages through Trieste (Italy), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Graz and Wien (Austria). Simulating population distribution and land use changes in space and time offer opportunities for smart city planning. It provides a holistic and dynamic vision of fast changing urban environment to policy makers. Impacts, such as environmental and health risks or mobility issues, of policies can be assessed and adapted consequently. In this paper, we suppose that "Smart" city developments should be sustainable, dynamic and participative. This paper addresses these three smart objectives in the context of urban risk assessment in Wallonia, Belgium. The sustainable, dynamic and participative solution includes (i) land cover and land use mapping using remote sensing and GIS, (ii) population density mapping using dasymetric mapping, (iii) predictive modelling of land use changes and population dynamics and (iv) risk assessment. The comprehensive and long-term vision of the territory should help to draw sustainable spatial planning policies, to adapt remote sensing acquisition, to update GIS data and to refine risk assessment from regional to city scale. This paper presents the methods and implementation processes of a WebGIS platform designed to publish the available land use and land cover maps of Europe at continental scale. The system is built completely on open source infrastructure and open standards. The proposed architecture is based on a server-client model having GeoServer as the map server, Leaflet as the client-side mapping library and the Bootstrap framework at the core of the front-end user interface. The web user interface is designed to have typical features of a desktop GIS (e.g. activate/deactivate layers and order layers by drag and drop actions) and to show specific information on the activated layers (e.g. legend and simplified metadata). Users have the possibility to change the base map from a given list of map providers (e.g. OpenStreetMap and Microsoft Bing) and to control the opacity of each layer to facilitate the comparison with both other land cover layers and the underlying base map. In addition, users can add to the platform any custom layer available through a Web Map Service (WMS) and activate the visualization of photos from popular photo sharing services. This last functionality is provided in order to have a visual assessment of the available land coverages based on other user-generated contents available on the Internet. Understanding planetary atmosphere-surface exchange and extra-terrestrial-surface formation processes within our Solar System is one of the fundamental goals of planetary science research. There has been a revolution in planetary surface observations over the last 15 years, especially in 3D imaging of surface shape. This has led to the ability to overlay image data and derived information from different epochs, back in time to the mid 1970s, to examine changes through time, such as the recent discovery of mass movement, tracking inter-year seasonal changes and looking for occurrences of fresh craters. Within the EU FP-7 iMars project, we have developed a fully automated multi-resolution DTM processing chain, called the Coregistration ASP-Gotcha Optimised (CASP-GO), based on the open source NASA Ames Stereo Pipeline (ASP) [Tao et al., this conference], which is being applied to the production of planetwide DTMs and ORIs (OrthoRectified Images) from CTX and HiRISE. Alongside the production of individual strip CTX & HiRISE DTMs & ORIs, DLR [Gwinner et al., 2015] have processed HRSC mosaics of ORIs and DTMs for complete areas in a consistent manner using photogrammetric bundle block adjustment techniques. A novel automated co-registration and orthorectification chain has been developed by [Sidiropoulos & Muller, this conference]. Using the HRSC map products (both mosaics and orbital strips) as a map-base it is being applied to many of the 400,000 level-1 EDR images taken by the 4 NASA orbital cameras. In particular, the NASA Viking Orbiter camera (VO), Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC), Context Camera (CTX) as well as the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) back to 1976. A webGIS has been developed [van Gasselt et al., this conference] for displaying this time sequence of imagery and will be demonstrated showing an example from one of the HRSC quadrangle map-sheets. Automated quality control [Sidiropoulos & Muller, 2015] techniques are applied to screen for suitable images and these are extended to detect temporal changes in features on the surface such as mass movements, streaks, spiders, impact craters, CO2 geysers and Swiss Cheese terrain. For result verification these data mining techniques are then being employed within a citizen science project within the Zooniverse family. The project Karten von Attika: Antiquities and Topography of Attica in the Era of Digital Humanities aims at the creation of a webGIS platform for the archaeology of Attica by overlaying multiple layers of geospatial data on a unified digital map. The two-decade topographic-archaeological mapping of the Attic land by the German cartographers of 19th century, resulted in a sequence of 26 cartographic sheets of mapping scale 1:25000, that published entitled Karten von Attika. It is the only cartographic work that with fullness and accuracy captures, among other elements, the antiquities that were visible at that time (Livieratos et al., 2013). These maps were never surpassed, neither as a cartographic achievement nor as a thematic depiction of ancient remains and traces (Korres, 2008). They were designed after thorough on-site research of the visible antiquities of that time, offering the vision of a pristine landscape, which has now been obliterated by the dramatic urbanization of Athens and Attica during the 20th century (Livieratos et al., 2013). The 26 cartographic sheets are accompanied by an explanatory text, 263 pages long, entitled Erläuternder Text zu den Karten von Attika, which in the context of this project is presented for the first time translated into Greek. The aim of Dipylon Society is to transfer Karten von Attika into the digital era by designing and implementing an innovative cartographic platform, thus making the maps accessible and interactive. Through digital technologies (GIS and web-mapping), the maps have been rendered onto their contemporary background as the 26 cartographic sheets merged into a seamless mosaic image which has been georeferenced. All the words depicted on the map (cartographic texts), every ancient remain and the majority of 19th-century remains (cartographic signs) have been digitized and registered in a geospatial database developed for recording the cartographic information. From a technical perspective, data are managed and stored using the PostgreSQL open-source database with the PostGIS extension that allows spatial data management. In addition, the project systematizes the cartographic data by type of sign (settlement remains, funerary remains, cult remains, fortifications, quarries, port structures, road networks, etc.). Finally, for each geospatial entity that a reference in the Erläuternder Text exists, a link to the text has been created. In this way, the user of the platform can easily navigate from the map to the text and vice versa. With the reconstruction of the built environment of the 19th century, the one hundred and forty-year-old traces are transferred to a modern cartographic background and reveal the palimpsest of the landscape. The digital platform, which is still a work in progress, was developed using methodology focused on the management and presentation of spatial and non-spatial data. Additionally, in order to have a user-friendly environment a combination of web development tools and libraries were used. Through the categorization of the cartographic data the user can navigate in Attica region of the 19th century and distinguish settlements, buildings, fortifications, archaeological remains visible at that time and even hydraulic and defensive works and geomorphological elements. They can also filter the presented data by date period, spatially isolate some of them and look for names on the map. By activating and reading the linked Erläuternder Text, he can also gain a fuller picture of the places walked and recorded by the German cartographers. The project aspires to significantly contribute to today's world of digital humanities through interdisciplinary research. As it will be bilingual (Greek / English) and freely available on the web, it will attract both the modern researcher and anyone potentially interested in ancient Attica. Upon completion, we hope that the user-friendly digital cartographic platform will give rise to a variety of derivative projects: as a methodological tool for modern teaching approaches in the sciences of Archaeology, History, Cartography and Informatics; as the basis for the creation of thematic routes in most visited places of Attica; and finally, as a model for the creation of corresponding digital cartographic applications of historical content for other areas of Greece. This paper describes a WebGIS prototype developed for the Walloon administration to improve the communication and the management of sediments dredging actions carried out in rivers and lakes. In Wallonia, levelling dredged sediments on banks requires an official authorization from the administration. This request refers to geospatial datasets such as the official land use map, the cadastral map or the distance to potential pollution sources. Centralising geodatabases within a web interface facilitate the management of these authorizations for the managers and the central administration. The proposed system integrates various data from disparate sources. Some issues in map scale, spatial search quality and cartographic visualisation are discussed in this paper with the solutions provided. The prototype web application is currently discussed with some potential users in order to understand in which way this tool facilitate the communication, the management and the quality of the authorisation process. In recent years, WebGIS available through the Internet has become popular among the general public. It had been applied in the field of archaeology and buried cultural properties, for example, by converting archaeological site maps and kofun (ancient tomb) databases into WebGIS and making them available on the Internet. In this study, we aim to create a database of excavation records of the Heian-kyo site, an ancient capital of Japan, and make it available on the WebGIS platform. In addition, we will discuss how the database can be utilized. Since it makes it possible to view all the records of excavations up to now on a single platform, that will greatly contribute not only to better understanding of the Heiankyo site but also to the administration of buried cultural properties in the future. Heian-kyo was the capital of Japan for more than 1,000 years from 794. Within its area, approximately 23.4 - in size, more than 10,000 excavations have been carried out in various forms since the early postwar years. Recently, the number of rescue excavations has greatly exceeded that of academic excavations in Japan, and the Heian-kyo site is no exception. In particular, where the Heian-kyo site was located has been urbanized, and a lot of redevelopment has taken place. Therefore, rather than archaeological purposes that could be well-planned ahead, social factors of land development and buried cultural property administration have often led to excavations. In order to manage and publish the survey records of such excavations, it is effective to digitize and construct GIS databases. In this term, Nagata (2002) of the Kyoto City Archaeological Research Institute created a database of excavation records related to the Heian-kyo site. In addition, Nagamune (2019) of Kyoto Asny has advocated the need to build an open information infrastructure for the site, digitizing and compiling plans created during excavations. Based on the information from these data, Ritsumeikan University has built a WebGIS by using ArcGIS Hub of ESRI's ArcGIS Online. ArcGIS Hub can easily build an open data site for sharing data, and viewers can download registered data in a variety of geospatial information file formats such as GeoJSON, KML, and CSV. In the field of archaeology, where the use of open data has been progressing in recent years, we assume that this kind of open data-specific system will present an advanced case. Figure 1 shows an image (left) of the platform under construction, and an example of enlarged plan (right). The top page includes a map to show plans and their locations. Here, Figure 1 shows the area around Nijo Station, one of the most developed areas of the Heian-kyo site. A database user can enlarge any plan to a resolution, large enough to read the layout of the remains on it. This plan is given the coordinates based on the survey done during the excavation. Moreover, its metadata includes: the year of excavation, the survey organization, the title of the report, and an outline of the excavation. In Japan, more excavation reports have become open to the public, many of which are available through the Internet, with the Comprehensive Database of Archaeological Site Reports in Japan as one of the most representative ones. By incorporating URLs of these reports as attributes, we are creating an environment where detailed information on excavations are easily accessible. By visualizing multiple survey plans from past excavations on a map, we expect that it will be much easier for the user to see positional relationship of the remains. Thus, we can expect this system to serve as a foundation for promoting archaeological research on the Heian-kyo site, with a vast amount of excavation results. In addition, as the user can know the specific excavation sites, the system would be useful in preliminary discussions and communications for future development and excavation. Furthermore, we display the locations of the excavations from the Heian-kyo site's database as points on the maps for every decade for the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s (Figure 2). Here, the maps also show the distribution density by Kernel density estimation and the Heian-kyo's square-grid pattern. In these three periods, Heian-kyu (the Heian Imperial Palace), located north of the center of the Heian-kyo site, has a particularly large number of excavations. Heian-kyu was not only the imperial residence but also where state ceremonies were held, and since the Kyoto City recognizes this area as an important archaeological site, it conducted many excavations. In the 1970s, many excavation sites were lined up in a straight line along Karasuma Street. This is a result of a series of excavations associated with the city's subway construction, and clearly shows that these sites were selected due to social factors, namely urban development. Although the sites were destroyed by the construction, the survey results of the excavations under the subway running north-south at the Heian-kyo site were of great use in archaeology. Interpreting these sites from a social perspective and examining the excavation results and the ways in which the sites were treated will give us an important perspective for future site management and research. In the future, we need to enrich the contents to make the excavation results more useful for education and dissemination to the general public, which includes a system that allows users to view photos of the remains and excavation sites, and a function that displays unearthed sites of each artifact. Therefore, we will continue to develop this platform for archaeological research, communication in the buried cultural property administration, and education and dissemination about the Heian-kyo site. The ISPRA Library collects and maintains the cartographic and documentary material of the Geological Survey of Italy, one of the oldest scientific institutions in the country. The collection of ancient and historical cartography on geological and geothematic themes has been collected since the second half of the 19th century and derives from the acquisitions started in 1867, following the institution of the Royal Geological Committee and the Royal Geological Survey. The Royal Geological Survey was established in 1873 with the task of the creation and publication of the geological map of Italy. Its activity was entrusted to the personnel of the Corps of Mines under the administrative control of the Chief Inspector of the Corps of Mines and the scientific direction of the Royal Geological Committee. The geological field survey started in 1877, thanks to the availability of the new topographic maps of the Italian Military Geographical Institute and the staff of geologists and engineers at the Royal Geological Survey (Pantaloni, 2016). This patrimony has been organically ordered and has been the object of a project aimed at its acquisition in digital format, in order to facilitate online access to the collection. In fact, the collection has been studied, catalogued, indexed, acquired in digital format and archived in a specific Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) indexed according to International Standard Bibliographic Description-Cartographic Materials (ISBD-CM) standards (ICCU, 2012). All the digital material, after the insertion of a non-invasive watermark, was uploaded to the server of the ISPRA Library, linked to the relevant catalog entry and made available for free download directly from the consultation mask of the OPAC catalog (www.opac.isprambiente.it) of the Library (Console & Pantaloni, 2016). The first phase of this work consisted in the selection and historical analysis of about 1500 cartographic objects, mostly pertaining to the Italian territory, some of them accompanied by manuscript reports, chosen on the basis of conservation characteristics, historical value and scientific and cultural significance (Pantaloni et alii, 2016a; 2016b; Severino et alii, 2014). The next step was the digital acquisition on a flat scanner that was performed of both the cartography and any accompanying elements (geological sections, attached documentation, etc.). This phase involved the production of raster images (jpg or tiff format) at high resolution (300 dpi) and the realization of corresponding thumb image. The cartographic material was then geo-referenced with the help of the most common open-source tools and it was prepared for publication through standard Web Map Services (WMS) and Representational State Transfer (REST) map services (Baiocchi, 2013; Cajthaml, 2011; della Maggiore et alii, 2001; IRMA, 2016). The aim of this work was to provide a consultation and visualization service on a WebGIS integrated in the viewer of the Portal of the Geological Survey of Italy in a dedicated section (http://sgi2.isprambiente.it/viewersgi2/). The standard services, whose URLs can be found within the metadata in the online resources section, allow the user to use the information locally, together with other information layers for individual analyses and lines of research. Therefore, in order to meet the specifications of the Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI), which promote the sharing and efficient use of geographic information by defining metadata models at different levels, for each dataset was carried out the compilation of metadata in the National Directory of Spatial Data standard (RNDT) integrated in the catalog (http://catalogosgi.isprambiente.it/catalogosgi/) (Congi & Pantaloni, 2018). This standard represents a set of information compliant with the better known European INSPIRE standard. The purpose of this work is to develop an operational methodology aimed at the recovery and visualization of historical geological cartography in order to provide a valid tool for technical and scientific evaluations on the evolution of the territory. The availability of cartographic elements made in the past, and the comparison with recent reference cartography, allows to carry out qualitative evaluations on the geological-environmental modifications of the areas considered. Using appropriate analytical tools, then, it also becomes possible to attempt a semi-quantitative analysis of the geological-geomorphological variations of the territory, thus introducing the time factor into the environmental determinations. This activity has been developed on part of the historical cartographic heritage preserved at the library The complex procedure described above, which passes through the concept of interoperability, offers the opportunity to study and deepen both the temporal phases of transformation of the territory and the evolution of technical and scientific aspects that lead to the creation of a geological map. The retrieval of the historical cartographic heritage is also a valuable aid to spread knowledge about the evolution of the territory through the use of modern communication tools that integrate the cartography that can be visualized on the web in the production of storytelling (Congi et alii, 2015; 2016). GeoStyler is an open-source software and OSGeo Community Project that provides a set of parser libraries which allow the conversion between different common styling formats used in cartographic software. On top of this core functionality, GeoStyler provides a user interface (UI) component library that helps to integrate GeoStyler into web applications. Using these components, GeoStyler can be used for example to create a WYSIWYG style editor. The project also maintains a GeoServer-plugin [3], which includes styling UI-components within GeoServer. Two more tools from the GeoStyler universe should be mentioned: A commandline interface (CLI) and a REST interface. The CLI provides a tool for server-side style conversion for an arbitrary number of style files -- completely automated. The REST interface can be used to create webservices which do the conversion between formats on-the-fly. With these tools, it is possible to convert a huge amount of style files from one supported styling format into any other format and vice versa -- e.g. QGIS styles from/to SLD, Mapfile or any other supported file based styling format. GeoStyler is based on a plugin concept, so the whole engine and UI works with any of the supported parsers and can thereby be used for projects that use any of the formats GeoStyler currently supports: OGC SLD, OpenLayers Styles, Mapfiles, QML and Mapbox. For assistance, when styling by attributes, the geodata formats GeoJSON, OGC WFS and Shapefile are supported too. Common Query Language (CQL) for filtering is understood as well as expressions written in the Filter Encoding standard (OGC FE). There are a number of new features planned for this year, such as a responsive card layout, enhanced support of expressions, filter UI enhancements/overhaul and an ArcGIS style parser. While still in early stages, first steps have been taken to style Cesium 3D-Tiles with GeoStyler. Also, further improvements on various documentation resources such as the GeoServer plugin, the UI and the translation of tutorials are on the roadmap. A Code Sprint in June this year also enables interested people to participate in and contribute to the many facets of the project in person or virtually. With this talk, we want to explain the core concepts of GeoStyler and present the current project status. We hope to get feedback from the audience and enhance the attractivity of the project to other users and developers. In order to show a real-life example, we will present the results of actual projects where GeoStyler was used to e.g. convert a big amount of UMN Mapserver based styles to QGIS. The aim of the author is to present and discuss methodological problems related to the development of old maps' digital editions on the example of the so called Gaul/Raczyński topographic map - a perfect case providing the whole catalogue of problems related to archival maps' representation in the digital form. Today, we can observe an increasing interest in spatial and digital humanities, as well as more frequent old and historical maps dissemination via web services. However, consistent methods of their depiction in the digital manner have not yet been developed. The aim of the project is not only to develop such a method, but also to indicate its perspectives and constraints in the context of its future application among the whole array of old maps. The development of map's digital edition allows the full use of such data in historical and geographical studies. The Gaul/Raczynski map (full title: "Geographic, Military and Statistical Map of Greater Poland") named after the cartographer (Ernest Gaul) and patron (Edward Raczynski) consists of 8 sheets covering 8 districts of Poznań Department of the Great Duchy of Warsaw and its scale is approx. 1:75 000. The dates depicted on one of the sheets indicate period of its elaboration: 1807-1812. The scope of content is rather typical for a topographic map of this period, although one sheet is also supplemented by statistical values assigned to each settlement (number of inhabitants and amount of grain collected). This manuscript map was colorful, although what remains today are only its black-and-white photocopies (in two different sets) as the original was lost during the Second World War. Providing a digital edition of an old map as a historical document requires linking at least three disciplines: cartography, history and computer sciences. "Edition" is understood by the author both as a process of providing access to the map and data derived from it as well as the final result of the work (i.e. web application with data and documentation). For historians, editing is a "critical representation of a historical document", so all actions should be scientifically justified (critical) and the edition should include the representation of the map (e.g. as map image and vector data). As for cartography, editing requires detailed studies in terms of map's scope of content and circumstances of its elaboration as well as digitization process including georeferencing and vectorisation. Finally, from computer sciences point of view, an edition is not only about providing webGIS application (frontend and backend) but also organizing spatial knowledge in the way it can be shared by different services via Internet (knowledge representation, ontologies, Semantic Web). The edition, which is available in the form of webGIS application, consists of the following elements: • Photocopies (scans) of both sets along with description of their physical condition, dimensions and other characteristics. • Georeferenced and mosaicked map sheets. As the map consists of 8 independent sheets, it was necessary not only to georeference them but also combine (mosaic). Only linear transformations were used in order to show which adjacent sheets spatially match one to another and which do not without major geometry corrections. Overall results of georeferencing vary from c.a. 100 m to 450 m of RMS error per sheet with the mean of 267 m. • Spatial database with selected elements of map content - localities (settlements), economic facilities, most important buildings, land cover, hydrography and roads. The spatial database is available through the web application (in OGC standards) as well as downloadable files (*.shp; *.mdb). All features in the database were identified with modern ones if possible. For example, historical localities from Gaul/Raczynski map were supplied by identifiers from "State Register of Geographical Names", so it is possible to trace changes of names or types of localities between present and the beginning of 19th c. Moreover, in cases of identification uncertainty, particular features were described in the documentation as well as flagged in the database. • Colour reconstruction which makes the black-and-white photocopy more legible and serves as a representation of original map potential colour scheme and appearance. Author decided to reconstruct original map symbology based on the studies of similar maps from this period, especially Prussian topographic maps (e.g. Gilly-Kron, Schmettau, von Stein) due to the most possible nationality of the cartographer (Ernest Gaul) as well as French (e.g. Cassini map) because of the patron's (Edward Raczynski) political contacts with Napoleonic France. • Auxiliary and reference materials, such as grid lines and sheet division of the Gaul/Raczynski map, as well as reference data from the Historical Atlas of Poland (for historical data; http://atlasfontium.pl; accessed: 04.01.2019), "State Register of Geographical Names" (for place names) and from the polish national Geoportal (for modern topographic maps). An important element of the edition is also to clearly indicate which components are derived directly form the source (i.e. the Gaul/Raczynski map) and which are acquired from external sources or result from data transformations and cartographic modelling. An integral part of the work is the documentation of the editing process as well as the metadata for spatial data made available in the form of OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) services such as WMS and WFS. Final problem is rather broad and should be posed for further studies: to what extent a digital edition of an old map with most important features stored within a database and presented via web application as well as supplemented by auxiliary data can serve as a historical map understood as a reconstruction of the past landscape? An antibiotic resistance is a serious problem on health and humanity. Our human society needs to understand the threat of antibiotic resistance. To geo-visualize the location, biotic information and spatial pattern of antibiotic resistance matters is an effective way for intuitive findings. We focused on the antibiotic resistance issue of Han-river in South Korea and analyzed their spread, as well as range of influence. We developed the geo-database of antibiotic resistance matters and represented spatial information based on WMS (Web Map Service) which is adjusted to OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) specifications. We designed correlated data schema structure of antibiotic matters, degrees of resistance, water quality and location of the sampled points on the river. Our WMS system followed the open source architecture and Q-GIS to make geo-server. This system was organized server-client structure. As for antibiotic resistance map on our WMS system, we illustrated the infographics and related tables of many kinds of information about antibiotic resistance. The WMS system represented simple spatial information, temporal variation of antibiotic resistance and degrees of correlation between antibiotic resistance and human activities such as emissions of antibiotic resistance matters on hospital or pharmacy. We also considered domestic sewage discharged into river through sewage processing facilities. This system will be contributed to reducing social cost and economic loss caused by antibiotic resistance spreads.
