Architect Gwathmey Siegel took on the task of converting a massive space formerly used as a police gymnasium in to a residence for a art collecting clients.?The lower portion of the circa 1909 Beaux Arts-style Police Building, located in Manhattan, NY, had been converted to residences in 1988, but the top floor gym remained vacant and was in derelict condition. Siegel transformed the space in to a 4-bedroom, expansive modern space well-suited to the owner's extensive art collections.?

Spanish-born architect Santiago Calatravera designed a residence that looks a bit like a UFO and spans a ravine in the Camelback Mountains area of Arizona. Calatravera also designed the Milwaukee Art Museum and is working on a new design for Manhattan's Grand Central Terminal on the former World Trade Center site.

Art gallery owner Frederieke Taylor chose to use the NY architect team of Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture to remodel and redesign her CT country home. The architects, from the firm Asymptote Architecture, rely heavily on computers and film animation to design their modernistic buildings. They say that experimenting with forms on a PC can yield different results than with a mere pencil. In Taylor?s residence the architects plan to add a curved gallery that mimics a river to merge a barn to a new structure. Insulated curved glass will be fitted with sensors to allow the owners to adjust the desired level of glass opacity or transparency. The murmuring of a nearby brook will be piped in via digital transmissions.
