Porous carbon materials were prepared using waste biomass wood chips as carbon source and ferric nitrate nonahydrate (Fe(NO
3 )3 โ 9H2 O) as catalyst precursor, via direct carbonization method, and the dye methylene blue (MB) adsorption performance with various carbonization temperatures and catalyst contents were investigated. XRD, SEM and BET were used to investigate the structure of as-prepared porous carbon materials. The results showed that the specific surface area of as-prepared porous carbon changed from 171.4 m²/g to 435.2 m²/g with the average pore diameter was between 2.197 nm to 10.63 nm. When the carbonization temperature is 800 °C and the catalyst dosage is 3 wt%, the sample prepared showed a good adsorption performance. The adsorption capacities of as-prepared porous carbon for methylene blue (MB) was 321.7 mg/g and the adsorption isotherms fit the Langmuir model and the adsorption kinetics follows the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.
