The shrinking gender divide in American politics is explored by examining the political behavior of men and women in the presidential election of 2004. The analysis, based on the American National Election Studies data, highlights a notable contraction of the gender gap among White voters in the South, where women voted in record proportions for the Republican incumbent in 2004, as opposed to their leanings on Democrats in previous elections.
