We use a WISE-2MASS-Pan-STARRS1 galaxy catalog to search for a supervoid in the direction of the Cosmic Microwave Background Cold Spot. We obtain photometric redshifts using our multicolor data set to create a tomographic map of the galaxy distribution. The radial density profile centred on the Cold Spot shows a large low density region, extending over 10's of degrees. Motivated by previous Cosmic Microwave Background results, we test for underdensities within two angular radii, 5°, and 15°. Our data, combined with an earlier measurement by Granett et al. 2010, are consistent with a large Rvoid=(192 ± 15)h−1 Mpc (2σ) supervoid with δ ≃ −0.13 ± 0.03 centered at z=0.22 ± 0.01. Such a supervoid, constituting a ∼3.5 σ fluctuation in the ΛCDM model, is a plausible cause for the Cold Spot. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

This review summarizes research into the phenomenon of patronizing speech addressed to older people by doctors, nurses, health professionals and other carers. Patronizing speech is defined and illustrated and its negative impact on the dignity and well-being of older people described. Key empirical and theoretical perspectives of patronizing speech are reviewed. Different aspects of the practice are examined and practical recommendations made for how it can be recognized and avoided. The article focuses on the role of the pointed arch in the transformation of medieval architecture from Romanesque to Gothic and its early use in Islamic architecture. The pointed arch has been a focus of interest for Western historians due to its role in Western European architecture and far less interest in Islamic architecture. This is because the origin of the pointed arch was the center of so much of the literature on Gothic architecture from the 17th up to the middle of the 19th century, secondly, the use of the pointed arch is one of the features which marks a clear break with the long retention of the semicircular arch in the classical tradition and lastly, questions on the relationship between the architecture and construction and the translation of architectural motifs.

The article discusses the connotation of the classical columnar piers of the Trinity Chapel at the Canterbury Cathedral in Canterbury, England. It is stated that the structure is an example of the art characteristic in the mid-twelfth century playing a key role in the early phases of Gothic style. According to art historian John Newman, the exemplary architecture of the said church constituted an improvement on the concept of choir and presbytery. Indeed, the author denotes that a variety of significations concerning the historical interpretation of the medieval architecture have been layered.
