The CO-to-H2 conversion factor (αCO) is crucial for accurate estimation of the amount and properties of molecular gas. However, αCO is known to vary with environmental conditions, and previous kpc-scale studies have revealed lower αCO in the centers of some barred galaxies, including NGC 3351, 3627, and 4321. We present ALMA Band 3, 6, and 7 observations toward the inner ∼2 kpc of these galaxies tracing 12CO, 13CO, and C18O lines at ∼100 pc resolution. We show that dynamical effects resulting from turbulence/shear can lead to substantially lower αCO in the bar-driven inflows of NGC 3351 due to lower optical depth. A clear, positive correlation between αCO and 12CO optical depth is seen in all three galaxy centers. We also find that the CO/13CO(2–1) ratio mainly traces the 12CO optical depth, and thus it may be a useful observable in predicting αCO variation in galaxy centers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An updated catalogue of 76 galaxies, with direct measurements of supermassive black-hole mass (Mbh) plus, when available, the central velocity dispersion (σ0) of their host bulge is provided. Fifty of these mass measurements are considered reliable, while the others remain somewhat uncertain at this time. An additional nine stellar systems, including one stellar cluster and three globular clusters, are listed as hosting potential intermediate mass black holes <106M⊙.With this larger data set, the demographics within the Mbh–σ0diagram are briefly explored. Many barred galaxies are shown to be offset from the Mbh–σ0relation defined by the non-barred galaxies, in the sense that their velocity dispersions are too high. Furthermore, including 88 AGN with black-hole mass estimates from reverberation mapping studies, we speculate that barred AGN may follow this same general trend. We also show that some AGN with σ0< 100 km s-1tend to reside up to (~0.6 dex) ~1.0 dex above the (barless) Mbh–σ0relation. Finally, it is shown that ‘core galaxies' appear not to define an additional subdivision of the Mbh–σ0diagram, although improved methods for measuring σ0values may be valuable. Stellar bars are important internal drivers of the secular evolution of disk galaxies. Using a sample of nearby barred galaxies with weak and strong bars, we evaluate the correlations between star formation properties in different galactic structures and their associated bars, and try to interpret the complex process of bar-driven secular evolution. We find that weaker bars tend to associate with lower concentrical star formation activities, while stronger bars appear to have large scatter in the distribution of the global star formation activities. In general, the star formation activities in early- and late-type galaxies have different behavior, with similar star formation rate density distributions. In addition, there are only weak trends toward increased star formation activities in bulges and galaxies with stronger bars, which is consistent with previous works. Our results suggest that the different stages of the evolutionary sequence and many factors besides bars may contribute to the complexity of this process. Furthermore, significant correlations are found between the star formation activities in different galactic structures, in which barred galaxies with intense star formation in bulges tend to also have active star formation in their bars and disks. Most bulges have higher star formation densities than their associated bars and disks, indicating the presence of bar-driven evolution. Therefore, we derived a possible criterion (Figure 1) to quantify the different stages of a bar-driven evolutionary sequence. Future work is needed to improve on the uncertainties of this study.
