Sialography was carried out on submandibular glands of rats. During infusion of water-soluble and fat-soluble contrast media, the intraglandular pressure was recorded. The pressure development during infusion of isotonic saline solution was also studied. Reproducible pressure curves characterizing each medium were obtained. It was possible to relate certain sialographic stages to certain phases of the pressure curves. The experimental model should offer new possibilities in sialographic research.
