Abstract

The article examines the endothelial dysfunction and signs of inflammation in hemodynamically relevant degenerative aortic stenosis before and after valve replacement. This dysfunction was found to be associated with an increased plasma levels of C-reactive protein (CRP). Aortic stenosis is associated with aortic plaques. Removal of the diseased valve may not completely eradicate the inflamed tissue mediating synthesis of CRP.
