Altered tyrosine kinase signaling is associated with a variety of diseases. Tyrosine kinases can be classified into two groups: receptor type and nonreceptor type. Nonreceptor-type tyrosine kinases are subdivided into Janus kinases (JAKs), focal adhesion kinases (FAKs) and tec protein tyrosine kinases (TECs). The beneficial effects of receptor-type tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) for the treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM) and the mechanisms involved have been previously described. Recently, several clinical cases involving the reversal of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) during treatment with JAK inhibitors have been reported, and clinical studies have described the improvement of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) during treatment with JAK inhibitors. In vivo and in vitro experimental studies have elucidated some of the mechanisms behind this effect, which seem to be based mainly on the reduction in β-cell disruption and the improvement of insulin resistance. In this review, we briefly describe the beneficial effects of JAK inhibitors among nonreceptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors for the treatment of DM and attempt to analyze the mechanisms involved. Background: Patients need to be supported in combining treatment with daily life. However, measurement of supportive care indicators related to treatment-related side effects is under-reported. This review aimed to identify a list of quality indicators for managing cancer treatment-induced toxicities for adult patients with cancer. Methods: A review was conducted on PubMed, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Embase from September 26, 2013 to December 26, 2023. Published English articles that developed or analyzed quality indicators of managing cancer treatment-induced toxicities for adult patients with cancer were selected. The identified indicators were classified according to Donabedian's model for quality of care in healthcare. Results: Forty-two indicators (4 structural, 27 process, and 11 outcome indicators) in 18 articles were identified. Eight articles (44.4%) were from North America, four (22.2%) from Europe, two (11.1%) from Oceania, two (11.1%) from Asia, and one (5.6%) from Africa; 64.3% of the indicators were process indicators based on guidelines. The prevalence of patient symptoms determined using a patient-reported outcome measure was proposed as an outcome indicator. In seven studies (38.9%), these indicators were selected by multidisciplinary experts. None of the studies involved patients or family members in the indicator selection process. Conclusion: The quality of supportive care should be improved by measuring these indicators, considering the patient's needs for supportive care at each hospital such that patients can continue their lives while undergoing treatment. Background and purpose: Treatment record contains most of information related to treatment plan delivery in radiation therapy. Reviewing treatment record is an important quality assurance (QA) task for safety and quality of patient treatments. This task is usually performed by senior medical physicists. However, it is time-consuming, tedious, and error-prone. To assist this process, a treatment record review system (TRRS) is developed to automatically review items related to treatment delivery record. Methods: The treatment record is firstly extracted from oncology information system (OIS). Based on the daily patient treatment information, the original plan from the treatment planning system is identified. Then the original plan and the delivered plan are correlated. Eight review categories (parameter consistency, treatment completeness, treatment progression, image guidance, override, treatment couch, documentation, and treatment mode) are created. Tailored rules are designed for various review items to automate the review process. As a result, for each daily treatment record, a reviewed flag (pass, failure, warning, and N/A) is assigned by the TRRS. Finally, this system is evaluated by 6 months patient treatment records collected in our institute and compared to the manual process on the same data. Results: TRRS processed a total of 76,651 treatment fractions from 4230 patients with an average of 574 treatments per day. The percentage of the detected anomalies among the total records was 0.76%. The average processing time was 3.9 s and 282 s per treatment record for the automatic and manual processes, respectively. Comparing with the manual process, the time efficiency of TRRS is improved by a factor of 72. The average numbers of anomalies detected by the automatic and manual processes are 21 and 13 per day, respectively. TRRS detects 61.5% more anomalies than those of the manual process. Conclusion: TRRS is not only efficient in processing a large amount of treatment records on a daily basis but also effective in finding more anomalies than those of physics weekly check. Background: HIV-related stigma remains a key barrier to the attainment of the UNAIDS global goal of ending AIDS by 2030. Due to the social and contextual nature of HIV-related stigma, community-based interventions may be more effective in addressing it. In this review, we synthesized evidence on the effectiveness and features of community-based interventions against HIV-related stigma in Sub-Saharan Africa. Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, Psych INFO, and Web of Science were searched in July 2023. We also searched Google Scholar and reference lists of all selected studies. Included studies were randomized controlled trials, mixed methods studies, as well as pre-test and post-test studies that evaluated the effectiveness of a community-based intervention to reduce HIV-related stigma in the general population or among specific groups. Data extraction was done using a pre-designed and pre-tested form. We performed a synthesis without meta-analysis, utilizing Fisher's method to combine p-values, to demonstrate evidence of an effect in at least one study. Additionally, we applied framework thematic analysis to qualitatively synthesize the intervention characteristics of the included studies. Results: A total of nine journal articles were included, largely with a high risk of bias. Results from the combined p-values provide strong evidence supporting the effectiveness of community-based interventions in reducing HIV-related stigma in at least one of the studies (p < 0.001, X2 = 73.1, 18 degrees of freedom). Most studies involved people living with HIV (PLH) alone as intervention recipients and as intervention implementers. Community members with unknown HIV status were involved in only 2 studies. The intervention strategies were largely information sharing through workshops and training as well as individualized counselling. In few studies, additional support in the form of referrals, nutritional supplements, and adherence support was provided to PLH during the interventions. Most studies were judged to be of moderate to high cost except in 3 where the intervention implementers were PLH within the community, volunteering in the home-based support approach. The involvement of community members in the design of intervention strategies was not seen in all the studies. Conclusion: Community-based interventions appear to be effective in reducing HIV-related stigma. However, more robust randomized trials are needed to provide stronger evidence for this effect. Although these interventions have been multifariously developed in Sub-Saharan Africa, comprehensive strategies involving the stigmatized and the "stigmatizers" in a social change approach are lacking. The application of strategies without the involvement of community members in their design takes away a sense of community responsibility, and this threatens the sustainability of such interventions. Background: Previous guidelines have clearly stated that dance is safe and beneficial during pregnancy and for childbirth. However, due to the small sample size of individual studies and different interventions, there were inconsistencies about the effect of dance on maternal childbirth. Methods: We included studies evaluating the effect of dance on women in labor. Risk of bias was assessed using the revised Risk of bias assessment tool for randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Data analyses was performed using Review Manager Software version 5.4. Results: A total of 12 RCTs comprising 1,486 pregnant women were included in the analysis. We found that the rate of natural childbirth and satisfaction with delivery were higher in the dance group than in the control group.The pain at 30 min and at 60 min after the intervention were lower in the dance group than in the control group. Meanwhile, the duration of the first stage, the second stage and the total labor duration was shorter in the dance group than in the control group.However, there were no statistically significant differences in the pain at 90 min after intervention, the duration of the third stage, and the rate of the normal 1-minute Apgar scores > 7 points between the two groups. Conclusions: Dance during labor could reduce labor pain to an extent, shorten the duration of labor, promote natural childbirth, and improve satisfaction with labor, with no adverse effects on neonatal outcomes. Background: Primary hypertension significantly impacts global cardiovascular health, contributing to increased mortality rates and posing a substantial public health challenge. Recognizing the growing evidence supporting non-pharmacological interventions (NPIs) for controlling primary hypertension, our study employs Network Meta-Analysis (NMA) to comprehensively assess their efficacy. Methods: This review updates a prior systematic review by searching for original literature on NPIs for primary hypertension from 2013 to 2024. We conducted a thorough search in eight databases, including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Allied and Complementary Medicine Database, CNKI, WanFang Data, and Chongqing VIP, identifying potential randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from January 1, 2013, to August 1, 2024. Primary outcomes included the mean changes in blood pressure before and after treatment. Analysis was performed using GeMTC package (R 4.2.3), and Stata 17.0. The confidence of evidence was examined using Confidence in Network Meta-Analysis (CINeMA). Results: Utilizing NMA, we reviewed 9,189 studies, identifying 54 eligible articles with 5,827 participants. Investigating 22 distinct NPIs, the focus was on changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressure pre and post-treatment. Lifestyle intervention + Tai Chi significantly reduced systolic (-21.75 mm Hg; 95% CI -33.25 to -10.02) and diastolic blood pressure (-13.62 mm Hg; 95% CI -23.14 to -3.71) compared to usual care and other NPIs. Consistency and regression analyses did not reveal significant differences. Conclusion: This review provides a comprehensive evaluation of NPIs for primary hypertension, emphasizing lifestyle + Tai Chi as a preferred NPI. Breathing exercises show potential in lowering systolic blood pressure, and acupuncture + tui na demonstrates effectiveness in reducing diastolic blood pressure, outperforming other interventions. The concept of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) has received much attention over the past 20 years. Currently, it is believed that FAIS can lead to intra-articular pathologies such as labral tears and articular cartilage lesions, resulting in clinical symptoms and subsequent poor clinical outcomes. FAIS-related articular cartilage lesions are common but unique, and their natural course always leads to early osteoarthritis of the hip. However, despite these cartilage lesions having gradually gained considerable attention, limited consensus has been reached on key aspects, such as diagnosis, mechanisms, classification, and management strategies, which limits clinical and research advances. Hence, an intensive comprehensive overview based on the existing evidence is necessary. Purpose: To examine autonomy within treatment and recovery from longstanding and severe eating disorders (EDs). Background: The typically early age of onset, high incidence, and prolonged duration of EDs, has a high personal, relational, and financial burden for people who experience them. Current treatment practices rely on the exertion of external control and influence which has profound impacts on people living with EDs as well as the relationship and interactions between them and their treating professionals. Yet scant research focuses specifically on how people with EDs, especially longstanding and severe presentations, experience autonomy. Centring the lived experience voice is essential to deconstruct power imbalances and develop more effective recovery pathways. Methods: A Rapid Evidence Review answered the research question, How do people with longstanding and severe eating disorders experience autonomy and recovery? Five electronic databases, the International Journal of Eating Disorders, and topic-specific grey literature from 2000–2021 were systematically searched. Twenty articles met the inclusion criteria. All findings and primary lived experience quotations relevant to the review topic were extracted, charted, and analysed. Reflexive Thematic Analysis (Braun and Clarke in Qual Psychol 9:3–26, 2021; Braun and Clarke in Qual Res Psychol 3:77–101, 2006;) was undertaken to inform the key findings and discussion. Findings: The researchers identified four central themes that characterise the experience of autonomy in treatment and recovery for people with longstanding and severe EDs: Self versus ED, Self in Treatment, Self in Recovery, and Others in Relation to Self. Novel theoretical contributions to understanding longstanding and severe EDs include the 'Lack of Autonomy' Loop, 'Relational Autonomy' and the diversity of definitions of recovery. Discussion: This review highlights the critical role of autonomy in the treatment and recovery of individuals with longstanding and severe EDs. It underscores the importance of addressing past trauma and integrating trauma-focused therapy within ED treatment. The findings advocate for collaborative, tailored, and autonomy-supportive approaches that empower individuals to break the cycle of disempowerment and promote sustained recovery. Conclusion: The review highlights the need for conceptual and practice development to leverage desire-focused, relational approaches for effective healing and recovery. Background: Reproductive effects of chronic exposure to nickel (Ni), including sperm quality, have been a matter of debate given that published studies yielded contrasting results. We have, therefore, planned to systematically search and analyze medical literature with the aim to ascertain the association of exposure to nickel with the sperm quality in humans. Materials and methods: We systematically searched Pubmed, Scopus and Embase for studies reporting the association of Ni with the sperm quality in humans with no time or language limits and used PRISMA to report the findings. The risk of bias was assessed using JBI critical appraisal checklist and SIGN tool. Because the reported effects were no coherent, meta-analysis was not possible. Results: All included studies were observational and planned to test the effect of a group of trace elements, but not Ni alone. We identified and included 19 studies from 23 publications, published from 12 countries, which assessed sperm quality, sperm DNA damage and sperm metabolome. Ni was quantified in blood, semen plasma, spermatozoa and urine. Sixteen included cross-sectional studies were of acceptable quality, whereas three more case-control reports were of poor quality. Multivariate models were reported in only eight studies. Overall, studies were inconsistent in the direction of effect, when elevated Ni was not associated with the outcome (N = 8 studies), or some association was present (N = 11 studies). In the latter, 9 studies yielded elevated risk and 2 studies exhibited protective effect. Only one report was in an occupationally exposed population with some association with tail defects, but present in both welders and controls. Conclusions: Existing evidence from the studies in humans is inconsistent and does not confirm a clear adverse effect of higher Ni concentrations in blood, urine or semen on the sperm quality. Introduction: Globally, there has been a decline in the age of menarche; the decline is higher in poorer countries than in richer ones. The measurement of the decline was based on the reported mean age at menarche (MAM) across the countries. There is a significant knowledge gap in investigating the generational decline in MAM in low- and median-income countries (LMC). In Nigeria, different studies have reported MAM, but none have attempted to investigate the generational shift in the reported MAM in girls residing in rural and urban areas. This review sought to understand if there is a rural-urban disparity in the MAM. Methods: Documents were searched in the relevant bibliometric database and Population intervention, comparison(s) and outcome (PICO) framework were used as eligibility criteria for extracting data from the documents based on some inclusion and exclusion criteria. The population are adolescent schoolgirls in rural and urban settlements in Nigeria. The comparator is the age of menarche of urban versus rural adolescent schoolgirls in Nigeria, while the mean age at menarche (MAM) is the outcome. Data quality assessment was done to critically appraise the included studies and enhance. Data were synthesized using narrative review, descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Ten articles were included in the study, following the PRISMA framework. The overall mean evaluation of the risk of bias in the individual studies included in the review was computed to be 88%. Generally, there seems to be a decline in the age at menarche from 1976 to 2023. The rural MAM is higher than the urban MAM, and the gap between the two appears to be narrowing. The t-test showed no statistically significant mean differences between the rural and urban mean age at menarche (T = 2.1009, p value = 0.4679). The mean menarcheal age for girls in rural and urban areas is 13.44 and 13.04, respectively. There is a strong positive correlation between the rural and urban MAMs (Pearson = 0.93, p < 0.001). The Gaussian kernel estimated a bimodal distribution for rural girls, where they are most likely to experience menarche at 11 and 13 years, respectively, while urban girls are most likely to experience menarche at 13 years. In both locations, the incidence of menarche decreases just after the peak at 13 years. Conclusion: Although rural girls have delayed menarche, there is no statistically significant mean difference between the age at menarche reported for rural and urban areas in Nigeria. Interventions in the form of counseling and reproductive education are recommended. The review provides a strong foundation for further research and policy development aimed at improving the health and well-being of adolescent girls in Nigeria and other similar settings. Background: Mental illnesses contribute to a significant burden of disease in low- and middle- income countries (LMICs). Understanding risk factors for poor mental health is essential to reducing the burden, and for preventative measures to be implemented. The role of socioeconomic position (SEP) in poorer mental health is well established in high income countries, but less is known in LMICs. This study aimed to identify and synthesise epidemiological evidence for the associations between SEP and depression and suicidal ideation in LMICs in Southeast Asia, and to describe the strength and direction of any associations identified. Methods: This systematic review identified evidence by searching four databases in February 2023 (Medline, Embase, PsycInfo and Web of Science), grey literature and reference searching of included papers. Papers were included if they were based in a Southeast Asian LMIC general or hospital populations (= 16 years of age) and explored at least one measure of SEP in association with depression or suicidal ideation. Study quality was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute tool. A meta-analysis and narrative synthesis were performed. Results: Fifty-nine papers from six out of nine Southeast Asian LMICs were identified, with education the most commonly examined measure of SEP. Several papers explored more than one measure of SEP. Around half of the papers were rated as higher quality. Meta-analyses of education (OR: 1.87, 95% CI: 1.49-2.35) and working status (OR: 1.30, 95% CI: 0.99-1.71) provided evidence of lower levels of education and not being employed being associated with higher odds of depression. Consistent associations between lower SEP and higher odds of depression were also found for financial difficulty and subjective economic status. Three papers used suicidal ideation as their outcome, and there was some evidence of an association with lower SEP and higher ideation. Conclusions: Evidence indicates that lower SEP is associated with higher likelihood of depression, whereas for suicidal ideation, the evidence available is insufficient to reach a conclusion. Background: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has developed a rich theoretical system and practical experience in fighting to infectious diseases over the past thousands of years, and has played an important role in controlling the spread owing to its unique advantages. In particular, its significant contribution to the prevention and control of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is widely recognized. COVID-19 infection is mainly non-severe with a favorable overall outcome, but patients with comorbidities tend to have a poor prognosis. However, a comprehensive review of TCM for preventing and treating COVID-19 with comorbidities across various systems is still lacking. Hence, this scoping review aims to conduct a comprehensive investigation on treatment outcome of TCM for treating COVID-19 with comorbidities across various systems. Methods: The scoping review was conducted by searching English databases including PubMed and Web of Science, and Chinese databases including China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang between January 2020 and January 2024. We followed the inclusion and exclusion criteria to identify relevant literature. Information for inclusion in the literature were subsequently extracted and consolidated. Results: We enrolled 13 literature that met the inclusion criteria in the review finally. Our analysis revealed that research on COVID-19 with comorbidities was mostly focused on circulatory diseases, including hypertension, heart failure, and cerebrovascular diseases, most common comorbidities were hypertension. Followed by endocrine and metabolic diseases such as diabetes, respiratory diseases including pulmonary tuberculosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease have been also addressed. However, there were few studies on co-infectious urogenital system disease, and no studies on the rheumatic, immune, hematological, nervous, reproductive, and skin systems diseases. Based on existing studies, TCM has significantly improved the clinical symptoms of COVID-19 with comorbidities such as fever, fatigue, dry cough, anorexia and asthma, the absorption of lung lesions, shortened the duration of viral shedding and the course of disease. Conclusions: TCM has great application prospects in treating COVID-19 with comorbidities. These findings could provide important evidence for clinicians to treat COVID-19 with comorbidities. Background: Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer mortality and may require high-dose thoracic radiation therapy (RT). However, RT significantly increases the risk of radiation-induced cardiac events, such as pericarditis, cardiomyopathy, and ischemic heart diseases. Despite evidence from clinical trials showing that higher RT doses are associated with poorer survival outcomes due to these cardiac effects, data on dose-volume predictors of such events in lung cancer remain sparse. Objective: To systematically synthesize the incidence of cardiac events following radiation therapy for lung cancer treatment and dose-volume metrics predictors of radiation therapy-induced cardiac events in lung cancer treatment. Methods: This systematic review, registered on PROSPERO (CRD42024565103), adhered to PRISMA guidelines to investigate cardiac events and its dose-volume predictors following high-dose radiation therapy in adults with lung cancer. Data were extracted from longitudinal observational studies and randomized controlled trials. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across MEDLINE, Cochrane CENTRAL, and Embase, with studies selected based on predefined criteria, focusing on clinical cardiac outcomes. Data extraction followed CHARMS guidelines, and study quality was reported using the PROBAST tool. Results were synthesized narratively, with meta-analyses performed where appropriate using R software to estimate pooled effect sizes, heterogeneity, and publication bias. Results: The systematic review included 21 studies and identified a significant association between high-dose thoracic radiation therapy (RT) and an increased incidence of cardiac adverse events in lung cancer patients. The review revealed that higher dose-volume parameters, notably higher mean heart doses (MHD), were predictive of major cardiac events such as pericardial effusion, arrhythmias, and acute coronary syndrome. The meta-analysis showed a significant 4% (95% confidence interval: 3%-6%) increased probability of the occurrence of cardiac events per additional Gray of MHD, with low heterogeneity among studies (I2 = 23%). No publication bias was evidenced. Conclusion: This study underscores the importance of dose-volume parameters as predictors of cardiac adverse events following high-dose thoracic RT in lung cancer treatment. The findings highlight the need for careful consideration of heart dose constraints in RT planning to mitigate the risk of radiation-induced cardiotoxicity, thereby improving the therapeutic ratio for lung cancer patients. Background: There are a myriad of ways patient partners can enact their roles on research teams. International guidelines emphasize the need for a collaborative approach to determining these roles to try to improve research impact and positive patient partner experience. The aims of this review were to: (1) describe how patient partners' roles as co-researchers in health research are determined; and (2) identify factors that influence how these decisions are made. Methods: A scoping review was conducted. Four databases were searched plus citation searching occurred. Descriptions of English language studies of any design and commentaries of studies that report on patient partners' or researchers' reflections on their decision-making processes for engagement were included. Two reviewers completed screening and data extraction, with a third to resolve disagreements. Results were summarized and then content analysis was undertaken to synthesize the findings. Two patient partners contributed to the protocol development, screening, data interpretation, and manuscript writing at varying times during the process. Results: A total of 45 papers (25 commentaries, 19 studies and 1 both a study and commentary) were included in this review. Most papers were from the United Kingdom (n = 15) and Canada (n = 12). Most patient partners had experiences related to chronic conditions rather than acute or time-limited illnesses. The synthesis yielded two categories. The first category, the research and research team attributes shape patient partner roles, encompassed patient partner, researcher and activity related factors that influenced patient partner engagement in activities. The second category, shared and ongoing decision-making, described the decision-making process to determine patient partner engagement, timing of these decisions, and tools to support these decisions. Conclusion: A dynamic, systematic and shared decision-making approach to determining patient partners' roles in the research process has the potential to support meaningful engagement and maximize benefits. Because the research process may evolve over time and patient partners situations can change, there may be a need to renegotiate the patient partner's role. International guidelines recommend patient partners and researchers work together to decide how patient partners will be involved in the research and there are many activities patient partners can do to enact their role. This review describes how these decisions are made and what shapes them. We reviewed 45 English-language research studies and commentaries on the views of patient partners and researchers that described patient partners' and researchers' approaches to determining patient partners' roles in the research process. Most of these studies were from the United Kingdom and Canada, with patient partners generally having chronic illness experience. We found that patient partner roles evolved throughout the study, with many factors affecting this process. Determining the patient partner role was dynamic, with reflection, discussion and negotiation occurring throughout the research process. The complex link between cognitive distortions (CDs) and criminal behavior is explored in this systematic literature review, with particular attention paid to typologies, contributions to criminal behavior, and correlations with different forms of crime. The review includes 25 studies that met rigorous inclusion criteria and were sourced from Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), ScienceDirect, PubMed, and PubMed Central (PMC). The selected research, which was published between 2019 and 2024, focuses on the link between CD and criminal conduct. This review reveals the relationship between CDs and criminal activity, emphasizing how these distortions have significant consequences on the actions of offenders. The findings suggest that CDs not only induce unlawful conduct but also have distinct impacts on various kinds of offenses. This review emphasizes the importance of understanding CDs in criminal conduct, providing insights into prevention strategies, rehabilitation programs, and therapy interventions. Background: The relationship between COVID-19 infection and a possible increased likelihood of older adults developing new-onset dementia (NOD) remains elusive. Methods: A thorough search was performed across several databases including MEDLINE/PubMed, PsycINFO, Scopus, medRxiv, and PQDT Global for studies published in English from January 2020 to December 2023. Only original investigations exploring the link between COVID-19 infection and NOD were selected for inclusion. We assessed the risk of developing NOD, using Risk Ratio (RR) for measurement. Control groups were categorized as: (i) a non-COVID cohort with other respiratory infections [control group (C1)]; and (ii) a non-COVID cohort with otherwise unspecified health status [control group (C2)]. Follow-up periods were divided into intervals of 3, 6, 12, and 24 months post-COVID. Results: 11 studies (involving 939,824 post-COVID-19 survivors and 6,765,117 controls) were included in the review. Across a median observation period of 12 months post-COVID, the overall incidence of NOD was about 1.82% in the COVID-infected group, compared to 0.35% in the non-COVID-infected group. The overall pooled meta-analysis showed a significantly increased NOD risk among COVID-19 older adult survivors compared to non-COVID-19 controls (RR = 1.58, 95% CI 1.21–2.08). Similar increased NOD risks were observed in subgroup analyses restricted to an observational period of 12 months (RR = 1.56, 95% CI 1.21–2.01), as well as in five studies that employed propensity score matching to sufficiently and effectively control for multiple confounding covariates (RR = 1.46, 95% CI 1.10–1.94). COVID-19 group and C1 group shared a comparably increased risk of developing NOD (overall RR = 1.13, 95% CI 0.92–1.38). Discussion: Under normal circumstances, we believe that COVID-19 infection is likely to be a risk factor for developing NOD in older adults over time. While the increased NOD risk due to COVID-19 infection appears to be similar to that associated with other respiratory infections, it warrants and necessitates investigation with longer observations. Background: Poor social connectedness has been identified as a risk factor for poor mental health but there is a lack of standardisation in how it is measured. This systematic review aimed to identify suitable measures of social connectedness for use in UK adult general populations. Methods: Searches were undertaken in two stages to identify: (1) measures of social connectedness from review articles and grey literature and (2) studies reporting on the psychometric properties of the identified measures. Grey literature and five databases were searched: MEDLINE, Embase and PsycINFO; CINAHL and Web of Science. Studies based on UK adult general populations (16–65 years) or other English language speaking countries with similar cultures (US, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand) were included. Psychometric evidence was extracted relating to six general domains: conceptual model, content validity, reliability, construct validity, scoring and interpretability, and respondent burden and presentation. A narrative synthesis summarised these psychometric properties. Results: Stage (1) 2,396 studies were retrieved and, 24 possible measures of social connectedness were identified; stage (2) 6,218 studies were identified reporting on psychometrics of identified measures and 22 studies were included. These studies provided psychometric evidence for 10 measures, and we did not find psychometric studies for the other identified measures. Six measures (6/10, 60%) reported assessing loneliness and four (4/10, 40%) reported assessing social support but there was a degree of overlap between the assessments of each concept. There was good evidence of reliability across measures, 90% (9/10) had adequate internal consistency, but evidence of content validity was only available for one scale. Five measures (5/10, 50%) reported on at least half of the psychometric criteria, and these were: UCLA-3 (for loneliness), and MSPSS, F-SozU K-6, SPS-10 and SPS-5 (for social support). Conclusions: This review identified ten social connectedness measures, and identified UCLA-3, MSPSS, F-SozUK-6, SPS-10, and SPS-5 as having the most robust psychometric properties for the UK adult population. Further testing is required to establish content validity, and to clarify the definition and conceptualisation of social connectedness, to enable standardisation in the approach to measuring social connectedness. Background: Children with cerebral palsy face various challenges, including oral hygiene, which is crucial for their overall well-being and quality of life. However, limited research investigates oral hygiene among children with cerebral palsy. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to assess the proportion of good oral hygiene and mean value oral hygiene index among children with cerebral palsy in Africa and Asia. Methods: This review included full articles conducted among children with cerebral palsy in Africa and Asia, assessing the proportion of oral hygiene and/or the mean oral hygiene index. PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Hinari, citation searching, and grey literature were retrieved to identify eligible articles through Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis guidelines. The registration number in Prospero is CRD42024540182. Data were extracted by standardized JBI data extraction format for personal hygiene and the mean value of oral hygiene index. Then exported to STATA 14 for further analysis. I2 and Egger's tests were employed to estimate the heterogeneity and publication bias respectively. Subgroup analysis based on country, study design, year of publication, and the sample size was also examined. Results: The random-effects model analysis revealed that the pooled proportion of good oral hygiene among children with cerebral palsy in Asia and Africa was 21.8% (95% CI: 14.2–29.4). Additionally, the analysis showed that the pooled mean value of the oral hygiene index among children with cerebral palsy in Asia and Africa was 1.9 (95% CI: 0.8–2.9). The study conducted separate analyses on the proportion of good oral hygiene in Africa and Asia, showing that the estimated proportion was 33.3% (95% CI: 15.1–51.4) for Africa and 11.7% (95% CI: 7.6–15.9) for Asia. Additionally, the study categorized the proportion of good oral hygiene based on the study design, revealing that 22.9% (95% CI: 10.4–35.4) for case-control studies and 21.5% (95% CI: 12.6–30.4) for cross-sectional studies. Furthermore, the analysis considered the difference in publication year, the proportions of good oral hygiene were found to be 23.2% (95% CI: 10.1–36.3) for publications before ≤ 2015 and 20.3% (95% CI: 11.4–29.3) for publications after > 2015. Lastly, the study examined the proportion of good oral hygiene based on sample size, 28.3% (95% CI: 11.0-45.6) for sample sizes ≤ 70 and 15.8% (95% CI: 9.3–22.2) for sample sizes > 70. Conclusions: This review suggested that the proportion of good oral hygiene among children with cerebral palsy appears insufficient in Asia and Africa. With just one-fifth exhibiting good oral hygiene, it is advisable to strengthen interventions and support programs in both regions to enhance oral hygiene in this vulnerable population. Further research better to focus on identifying potential factors and conducting qualitative investigations to comprehend the perspectives of children and caregivers on oral hygiene within these regions. Background: The number of non-inferiority (NI) trials, those aiming to show a new treatment is no worse than a comparator, is increasing. However, their added complexity over superiority trials can create confusion. Most guidance and reviews to date have an industry focus with research suggesting these trials may differ from publicly funded NI trials. The aim of this work is to review the design and reporting characteristics of UK publicly funded NI trials. This assessment will show how well recommendations from industry are translating to publicly funded trials. Methods: The International Standard Randomised Controlled Trial Number web registry and the National Institute for Health and Care Research's Funding and Awards Library and Journals Library were searched using the term non-inferiority and logical synonyms. Inclusion requirements were a UK publicly funded NI randomised controlled trial. Characteristics of the design, analyses and results as available were recorded on a dedicated data extraction spreadsheet. Appropriate summary statistics were used to present the results. Results: Searches completed on the 14th of January 2022 identified 477 potential trials which after exclusions resulted in a database of 114 NI trials to be summarised. Non-inferiority margins were defined for most trials with a median of 8% (IQR: 3–10%) used for risk differences (n = 58) and 0.35 (IQR: 0.26–0.43) standardised mean difference for continuous outcomes (n = 30). Justifications for the margin chosen (n = 62) were more commonly based on the clinical importance (49/62) and less commonly using statistical considerations (13/62). The most prevalent primary analysis population was solely on an intention-to-treat basis (49/114). The superiority of the treatment was well described but not always included as an outcome and only powered for in about a third of cases. Conclusions: Aspects of NI trial design are well described but not always in line with current recommendations. Of particular note, is the absence of statistical considerations when setting the non-inferiority margin, which eliminates the ability to confirm indirect superiority over placebo for the new treatment. Additionally, despite suggestions that it can increase the type 1 error in NI trials, the use of the intention-to-treat alone is the most common analysis population. Believing conspiracy narratives is frequently assumed to be a major cause of vaccine hesitancy, i.e., the tendency to forgo vaccination despite its availability. In this scoping review, we synthesise and critically evaluate studies that assess i) the occurrence of vaccine-related conspiracy narratives on the internet, ii) the prevalence of belief in vaccine-related conspiracy narratives, iii) the relationship between belief in conspiracy narratives and vaccination intention or vaccination uptake, and iv) interventions that reduce the impact of conspiracy narratives on vaccination intention. In July 2022, we conducted a literature search using three databases: PubMed, PsychInfo, and Web of Science. Following the PRISMA approach, of the 500 initially identified articles, 205 were eligible and analysed. The majority of identified studies were conducted in Europe and North America, were published in 2021 and 2022, and investigated conspiracy narratives around the COVID-19 vaccination. The prevalence of belief in various vaccine-related conspiracy narratives varied greatly across studies, from 2 to 77%. We identified seven experimental studies investigating the effect of exposure to conspiracy narratives on vaccination intentions, of which six indicated a small negative effect. These findings are complemented by the evidence from over 100 correlative studies showing a significant negative relationship between conspiracy beliefs and vaccination intention or uptake. Additionally, the review identified interventions (e.g., social norm feedback, fact-checking labels, or prebunking) that decreased beliefs in vaccine-related conspiracy narratives and, in some cases, also increased vaccination intentions. Yet, these interventions had only small effects. In summary, the review revealed that vaccine-related conspiracy narratives have spread to varying degrees and can influence vaccination decisions. Causal relationships between conspiracy beliefs and vaccination intentions remain underexplored. Background: Ventilator weaning is of great importance for intensive care patients in order to avoid complications caused by prolonged ventilation. However, not all patients succeed in weaning immediately. Their spontaneous breathing may be insufficient, resulting in extubation failure and the subsequent need for reintubation. To identify patients at high risk for weaning failure, a variety of potential predictors has already been examined in individual studies and meta-analyses over the last decades. However, an overview of all the predictors investigated is missing. Aim: To provide an overview of empirically investigated predictors for weaning failure. Methods: A systematic evidence map was developed. To this end, we conducted a systematic search in the Medline, Cochrane, and CINAHL databases in December 2023 and added a citation search and a manual search in June 2024. Studies on predictors for weaning failure in adults ventilated in the intensive care unit were included. Studies on children, outpatients, non-invasive ventilation, or explanatory factors of weaning failure were excluded. Two reviewers performed the screening and data extraction independently. Data synthesis followed an inductive approach in which the predictors were thematically analyzed, sorted, and clustered. Results: Of the 1388 records obtained, 140 studies were included in the analysis. The 112 prospective and 28 retrospective studies investigated a total of 145 predictors. These were assigned to the four central clusters 'Imaging procedures' (n = 22), 'Physiological parameters' (n = 61), 'Scores and indices' (n = 53), and 'Machine learning models' (n = 9). The most frequently investigated predictors are the rapid shallow breathing index, the diaphragm thickening fraction, the respiratory rate, the P/F ratio, and the diaphragm excursion. Conclusion: Predictors for weaning failure are widely researched. To date, 145 predictors have been investigated with varying intensity in 140 studies that are in line with the current weaning definition. It is no longer just individual predictors that are investigated, but more comprehensive assessments, indices and machine learning models in the last decade. Future research should be conducted in line with international weaning definitions and further investigate poorly researched predictors. Background: Vaginal Birth after Cesarean Birth (VBAC) is a birth mode recommended for reducing repeat cesarean which potentially contributes to adverse outcomes. However, VBAC is not normally practiced in some countries. Providers are an important part of the decision-making process on modes of birth among pregnant individuals. Providers' perspective on VBAC can influence whether they support or avoid conducting VBAC. This review aimed to explore providers' perspective on VBAC. Methods: The comprehensive search was conducted from six databases including PubMed, MEDLINE, Scopus, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and Google scholar. The studies published in English between 2013 and 2023 were review. The Medical Subject Heading terms for VBAC and perspective were used to search. The eligible studies were selected by the PRISMA flow chart. The initial search yielded 558 articles. After excluding duplicates, articles not retrieved for full-text, and not meeting inclusion and exclusion criteria, eight articles were recruited. Quality appraisal of the studies was performed by the tool of the Joanna Briggs Institute. The meta-aggregation approach was applied to synthesize the findings. Results: Eight qualitative articles were included in this review, and six themes were developed including (1) different recognition of VBAC, (2) differences of willingness level of conducting Trial of Labor after Cesarean (TOLAC) (the approach attempting to have VBAC), (3) skills and resources needed when performing TOLAC, (4) protocol for recruiting candidacy and TOLAC management, (5) final decision making on VBAC, and (6) onset and duration of providing TOLAC information. Conclusion: Providers play an important role in influencing individuals' decision on modes of birth. Providers' positive recognition and willingness of conducting TOLAC potentially impact successful VBAC rate. However, the lawsuit caused by adverse outcomes from TOLAC/VBAC is a main reason for choosing repeat cesarean. Healthcare providers especially obstetricians and nurse-midwives play an important role in individuals' decision on mode of birth, so do individuals with previous cesarean. Healthcare providers' perspective on modes of birth among individuals with previous cesarean is very essential to support or not support individuals to have VBAC. In high VBAC rate countries, healthcare providers think VBAC is an optimal option for individuals with previous cesarean and have high confidence to do VBAC. On the other hand, healthcare providers in low VBAC rate countries think VBAC can cause a catastrophic birth outcome as uterine dehiscence and they are scared of being sued from the adverse outcome. One approach to support VBAC, most healthcare providers suggest that individuals with previous cesarean should be educated about VBAC right after the first cesarean or first antenatal visit because VBAC is not a common mode of birth for individuals in some countries and they need time to make a decision on mode of birth for their subsequent pregnancy. Leveraging its ability to handle large and complex datasets, artificial intelligence can uncover subtle patterns and correlations that human observation may overlook. This is particularly valuable for understanding the intricate dynamics of spinal surgery and its multifaceted impacts on patient prognosis. This review aims to delineate the role of artificial intelligence in spinal surgery. A search of the PubMed database from 1992 to 2023 was conducted using relevant English publications related to the application of artificial intelligence in spinal surgery. The search strategy involved a combination of the following keywords: "Artificial neural network," "deep learning," "artificial intelligence," "spinal," "musculoskeletal," "lumbar," "vertebra," "disc," "cervical," "cord," "stenosis," "procedure," "operation," "surgery," "preoperative," "postoperative," and "operative." A total of 1,182 articles were retrieved. After a careful evaluation of abstracts, 90 articles were found to meet the inclusion criteria for this review. Our review highlights various applications of artificial neural networks in spinal disease management, including (1) assessing surgical indications, (2) assisting in surgical procedures, (3) preoperatively predicting surgical outcomes, and (4) estimating the occurrence of various surgical complications and adverse events. Background: Odontoid fractures from high-energy trauma are associated with significant morbidity and mortality, including spinal cord injury, neurological damage, and cardiac arrest. The literature on odontoid fractures leading to cardiac arrest is limited to isolated case reports. This study aims to conduct a retrospective bi-center case series and a systematic review of existing literature. Methods: We conducted a retrospective bi-center case series on patients with odontoid fractures from high-energy trauma who experienced post-traumatic cardiac arrest with return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) after CPR from two Level 1 Trauma Centers (2008–2024). The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality; secondary outcomes included epidemiological, pre-hospital, and in-hospital data, and CT and MRI findings. Additionally, we performed a systematic literature review to summarize existing evidence. Results: The study included 25 patients (mean age 71.1 ± 12.3 years, SD; 8 females). The mortality rate was 92% (23 patients). Median downtime before CPR was 5.0 min (IQR: 7.0), with CPR lasting 17.0 min (IQR: 13.0), primarily initiated by professionals (60%). All patients were quadriplegic. Type II Anderson d'Alonzo fractures were most common (88%), with all patients showing myelopathy on MRI. Only three patients (12%) underwent surgical intervention due to favorable prognosis. Our literature review identified seven case reports, with two patients surviving and one achieving full recovery. Conclusions: In this case series, patients experiencing cardiac arrest after odontoid fractures exhibited high mortality rates despite comprehensive management at Level 1 trauma centers. Background: Periodontal disease (PD) is an infectious and inflammatory condition that affects the tissues surrounding and supporting the teeth. It has been suggested that PD may be associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD), one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. Our study aimed to investigate the association between PD and CVD through an umbrella review. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted until April 2024 across various electronic databases, including PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, SciELO, Web of Science, Google Scholar, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, and OpenGrey. Systematic reviews with or without meta-analysis were considered for inclusion, without any limitations on time or language, provided they examined primary studies linking PD with CVD. The AMSTAR-2 tool was employed to assess the quality and overall confidence of the included studies. Results: After the initial search, a total of 516 articles were identified. Following the application of selection criteria, 41 articles remained for further consideration. All these studies indicated an association between PD and CVD, with odds ratios and risk ratios ranging from 1.22 to 4.42 and 1.14 to 2.88, respectively. Conclusions: Systematic reviews with high overall confidence support the association between PD, tooth loss, and cardiovascular diseases. However, it is crucial to interpret these results with caution due to methodological limitations. The potential public health relevance justifies preventive and corrective oral health strategies. Background: The benefits of healthy eating are well known, yet adolescent diet is often poor. School based interventions offer a promising option to promote healthy eating, however, evidence is unclear. Aim: This umbrella review synthesised the current evidence on school-based interventions for healthy eating in adolescents (10–19 years old). Methods: Using Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) umbrella review guidelines, a systematic search was conducted on 11 electronic databases (PubMed, CINHAL, EMBASE, Science Direct, PsycINFO, MEDLINE, Scopus, ERIC, Web of Science, Cochrane Register of Systemic Review and JBI Evidence Synthesis) to identify reviews published between January 2000 and December 2023. Methodological quality was assessed using JBI critical appraisal tool. A narrative synthesis was conducted informed by the World Health Organisation's Health Promoting School (HPS) framework that categorises school-based interventions into three components i.e., health education, school environment changes, and family and community involvement. Results: Seventeen reviews were identified (including 347 unique primary studies) that were published between 2008 and 2023. 87% of the reviews were based on interventions in high- income countries, limiting applicability to low- and middle-income countries. Fourteen reviews were rated as high, two as moderate, and one was rated as low methodological quality. Evidence from 71% of the reviews (n = 14 reviews, 13 = high methodological quality) found that multi-component interventions (i.e., interventions incorporating more than two components of the HPS framework) improved adolescents' knowledge and behaviour concerning healthy eating. At the individual level, tech-driven healthy eating curricula effectively improved eating behaviours of adolescents. These individual-level interventions proved to be more effective and sustainable when supported by system-level changes, such as modifying school environments including increased availability of healthy foods and involving parents to promote healthy eating for adolescents. However, limited evidence from only three reviews suggests mixed feasibility for technology-based interventions and lower feasibility for multi-component interventions. The lack of information on stakeholder involvement in intervention design is another critical evidence gap. Conclusion: School-based multi-component healthy eating interventions that combine individual-level interventions with system-level changes are effective in promoting healthy eating behaviours among adolescents. Future reviews should assess the effectiveness of participatory approaches in intervention design, feasibility and scale-up studies, and analysing evidence from low- and middle-income countries. Background: Aedes mosquito is the primary vector of emerging or re-emerging arboviruses that threaten public health worldwide. Many efforts have been made to develop interventions to control the Aedes mosquito. This scoping review was conducted to identify the nature and scope of educational interventions to prevent and control diseases transmitted through the Aedes mosquito. The findings can be used to evaluate, compare, and develop appropriate control strategies. Methods: The present scoping review was conducted in 2023 and used Arksey and O'Malley's approach, which involves five key stages. To search for academic papers, PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus and ScienceDirect databases were used with a combination of keywords about Aedes mosquitoes, educational interventions, and disease prevention and control. The search was not limited by the publication date, yet only included studies published in English. Studies were included that reported the educational interventions about Aedes mosquito control at the community or organizational level. The screening of papers was done based on the PRISMA-ScR guideline. Excel 2019 was used for data analysis. Results: Initially, 3,172 papers were extracted, and after screenings and reviews, a total number of 45 final papers were selected. The studies focused on educational interventions. Twenty interventional studies were at the organizational level and 25 at the community level. The latter was the most commonly used strategy. Interventions using educational approaches have achieved sustainable results. Out of the forty-five studies, twenty-one were assessed to have a low risk of bias. Conclusions: The present scoping review evaluates the effectiveness of educational interventions at various community levels for controlling Aedes-borne diseases, emphasizing the need for multidisciplinary collaboration. Controlling Aedes mosquitoes using education and attracting the community's participation is an effective approach to reduce diseases transmitted through Aedes. The development of education at different levels of the community, such as educational and occupational environments, can play a role in the effectiveness of societal education and can be more cost-effective. Maintaining the effect of this approach is challenging because it requires multi-sector and multidisciplinary team participation and active community engagement over the long term. Primary osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent degenerative joint disease that mostly affects the knee joint. It is a condition that occurs around the world. Because of the aging population and the increase in obesity prevalence, the incidence of primary OA is increasing each year. Joint replacement can completely subside the pain and minimize movement disorders caused by advanced OA, while nonsteroidal drugs and injection of sodium hyaluronate into the joint cavity can only partially relieve the pain; hence, it is critical to search for new methods to treat OA. Increasing lines of evidence show that primary OA is a chronic inflammatory disorder, with synovial inflammation as the main characteristic. Macrophages, as one of the immune cells, can be polarized to produce M1 (proinflammatory) and M2 (anti-inflammatory) types during synovial inflammation in OA. Following polarization, macrophages do not come in direct contact with chondrocytes; however, they affect chondrocyte metabolism through paracrine production of a significant quantity of inflammatory cytokines, matrix metalloproteinases, and growth factors and thus participate in inducing joint pain, cartilage injury, angiogenesis, and osteophyte formation. The main pathways that influence the polarization of macrophages are the Toll-like receptor and NF-κB pathways. The study of how macrophage polarization affects OA disease progression has gradually become one of the approaches to prevent and treat OA. Experimental studies have found that the treatment of macrophage polarization in primary OA can effectively relieve synovial inflammation and reduce cartilage damage. Background: Depression is a prevalent and serious mental health disorder that significantly impacts daily life and functioning. Neurofilament Light chain (NfL), associated with axonal neuronal damage, has been identified as a promising biomarker, potentially aiding in early diagnosis of depression, personalized treatment, and tracking disease progression. This study used meta-analysis to evaluate the potential of plasma NfL as a biomarker for depression patients. Methods: A systematic search following the PRISMA guidelines was conducted across PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases to find relevant studies on plasma NfL levels in patients with depression. A random effects model meta-analysis was applied to determine its potential as a biomarker for differentiating patients from controls. Results: Our meta-analysis, based on four articles with six datasets, revealed that plasma NfL levels were notably higher in individuals with depression (228 cases) compared to healthy controls (118 individuals). The weighted mean difference (WMD) was 8.78 (95% CI: 5.28, 12.28; P < 0.01), indicating a significant effect size. Given the diverse confounding factors inherent in the included observational studies, the observed variability can be attributed to these influences. Due to the observed heterogeneity (heterogeneity Chi-Square: 54.91, p < 0.05), we performed a subgroup analysis. Subgroup analyses based on depression type and analysis method consistently supported the association between NfL and depression, strengthening the evidence. Conclusion: Our meta-analysis demonstrates that elevated NfL levels may serve as a promising biomarker for diagnosing depressive disorders. Background: Initiatives aiming to assess the impact of rare diseases on population health might be hampered due to the complexity of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) estimation. This study aimed to give insight into the epidemiological data sources and methodological approaches used in studies that estimated DALYs for chronic non-communicable rare diseases (CNCRD), and compare its results. Methods: A literature strategy was developed for peer-review search in Embase and Medline, and also performed on grey literature databases and population health and/or rare disease-focused websites. We included studies that determined the burden of CNCRD listed on the Orphanet's and/or the Genetic and Rare Diseases information center (GARD) websites. We excluded communicable and occupational diseases, rare cancers, and cost-effectiveness/benefit studies. Two researchers independently screened the identified records and extracted data from the final included studies. We used the Guidelines for Accurate and Transparent Health Estimates Reporting (GATHER) statement to assess the quality of reporting of the included studies. The data synthesis depicted the studies' characteristics, their distribution by geographic coverage and the group of disease(s) they focused on, the methods and data input sources used and estimated DALY per case. Results: In total, 533 titles were screened, and 18 studies were included. These studies covered 19 different CNCRDs, of which most fell in the disease category "Diseases of the nervous system". Diverse methodological approaches and data input sources were observed among burden of CNCRD studies. A wide range of DALY per case was observed across the different studies and diseases included. Conclusions: A low number of burden of CNCRD studies was observed and most estimates resulted from multi-country studies, underlining the importance of international cooperation to further CNCRD research. Adolescents with callous unemotional (CU) traits are at risk for poor quality-of-life outcomes such as incarceration, suicide, and psychopathy. It is currently unknown which treatments are implemented with CU adolescents specifically and which elements make up these interventions. A narrative systematic review was used to identify the treatments and common elements used with CU adolescents (12–18 years). Eligible studies were randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies evaluating psychosocial interventions, delivered within a clinical context, and directed towards the adolescent or their family. Eight studies with 1291 participants were included. Significant decreases in CU traits were demonstrated only in a minority of studies. The most utilized practice elements were set goals for treatment, practice interpersonal/communication skills, prepare for termination, and teach parents skills and strategies; the most utilized process elements were formal therapy, practice exercises, important others, and flexible/adaptive. A majority of the studies did not report an implementation element. While theoretical frameworks for CU children are employed with CU adolescents, there is still uncertainty regarding their suitability for this age group. Background: Accumulating evidence has highlighted that lncRNA ABHD11-AS1 plays an essential role in tumorigenesis and is expected to become a new predictive biomarker and ideal target for cancer therapy, whereas some of their findings are conflicting due to the relatively small sample size of individual studies. Thus, this meta-analysis aimed to quantitatively ascertain the association of ABHD11-AS1 with diverse human malignancies. Methods: Eight databases were comprehensively screened for relevant articles on January 1, 2024. The significance of ABHD11-AS1 in malignancies was determined by odds ratios (ORs) or hazard ratios (HRs) with corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI). Subgroup analyses and sensitivity analyses were applied to verify the reliability and robustness of the pooled results. Simultaneously, the GEPIA2021 and UCSC Xena databases were applied to further strengthen the results. Results: Fourteen clinical studies comprising eight kinds of malignancies and 1215 malignancy cases were enrolled into this meta-analysis. The pooled results showed that increased ABHD11-AS1 expression was remarkably associated with lymph node metastasis (OR = 2.73, 95%CI [1.97, 3.77], I2 = 0%, p < 0.00001), advanced tumor stage (OR = 3.14, 95%CI [2.34, 4.21], I2 = 39%, p < 0.00001), and unfavorable overall survival (OS) (HR = 1.81, 95%CI [1.58, 2.06], I2 = 0%, p < 0.00001). Subgroup analyses and sensitivity analyses indicated that the pooled results were reliable and robust. Additionally, ABHD11-AS1 was significantly increased in eight kinds of malignancies according to the validation of the GEPIA2021 database. Meanwhile, the UCSC Xena databases further revealed that elevated ABHD11-AS1 expression was significantly associated with poor prognosis as assessed by progression free interval (PFI), disease free interval (DFI), disease specific survival (DSS), and OS. Conclusions: Current evidence supports the association of elevated ABHD11-AS1 expression with poor prognosis. Thereby, ABHD11-AS1 may be considered as a promising biomarker to screen cancer and predict malignancy prognosis. Background: Pilates has captured interest due to its possible advantages during pregnancy and childbirth. Although research indicates that Pilates may reduce labor duration, alleviate pain, and improve satisfaction with the childbirth experience, consensus on these outcomes remains elusive, underscoring the necessity for additional studies. Aim: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the impact of Pilates exercises on labor duration among pregnant women. Methods: The online database was searched to yield the literature using the terms of 'Pilates', 'childbirth', and 'labor duration', and similar terms including PubMed, Clinical Key, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews up to June 25, 2023. Studies were considered eligible if they were randomized or clinical controlled trials (RCTs/CCTs) published in English, focusing on healthy pregnant women without exercise contraindications. The studies needed to include interventions involving Pilates or exercise movement techniques, a comparison group with no exercise, and outcomes related to labor duration, the period of the active phase, and the second stage of delivery. Results: Eleven studies, totalling 1239 participants, were included in the analysis. These studies provided high-quality evidence from exercise only RCTs/CCTs. The findings indicated a significant reduction in the active phase of labor (8 RCTs, n = 1195; Mean Difference [MD] = -56.35, 95% Confidence Interval [CI] [-89.46 to -23.25]) and overall labor duration (8 RCTs, n = 898; MD = -93.93, 95% CI [-138.34 to -49.51]) in pregnant women who engaged in Pilates exercises compared to those who did not but doesn't affect on the duration of the second stage of labor (7 RCTs, n = 1135; MD = -0.11, 95% CI [-7.21 to 6.99]). Conclusions: While this review primarily addresses the effects of Pilates on healthy and low-risk pregnant women, the findings suggest a potential role for Pilates in shortening labor duration. Background: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a connective tissue disorder in which the Type 1 collagen is defective. The eye is a structure rich in collagen Type 1 and is heavily impacted by the disease. Many vision-threatening eye diseases have been associated with OI. The onset of these diseases also tend to occur at an earlier age in individuals with OI. Despite the research on these risks, appropriate ophthalmological screening or care guidelines for individuals with OI remain unknown. As such, the purpose of this scoping review was to explore and describe existing ophthalmological screening and care guidelines to orient OI patient care. Main body: A scoping review based on the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology was conducted. A search of databases (PubMed and Medline) was completed in consultation with a research librarian. A total of 256 studies were imported for screening. Primary sources matching the inclusion and exclusion criteria were screened, extracted, and analyzed using Covidence. Conclusion: A total of 12 primary articles met inclusion and exclusion criteria, containing case reports, case series and cohort studies. Despite the risk of blindness associated with the consequences of OI on the eye, the primary literature fails to provide detailed screening and care guidelines aimed at identifying disease early. We provide general recommendations based on the review findings to guide the ophthalmological care of patients with OI and call upon the experts to convene globally to create screening guidelines. Further investigations of ophthalmological screening are warranted to limit these vision-threatening risks with early detection and treatment. Infertility refers to the inability to conceive after 12 months of regular, unprotected sexual intercourse. Psychosocial aspects of infertility research are predominant in developed countries. A scoping review of psychosocial aspects of infertility research conducted in Africa between 2000 and 2022 was conducted. Twelve databases and grey literature were searched for articles. Studies were included if they were published in English and included findings from patients diagnosed with primary or secondary infertility. A total of 2 372 articles were initially found and screening resulted in 116 articles being included in the scoping review. Most of the studies (81%) were conducted in Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa. Psychosocial aspects explored included quality of life, barriers to treatment, attitudes and stigma, and sociocultural and religious aspects of infertility, among others. The review maps published psychosocial research in the context of infertility in Africa and identifies gaps for future research. Plain language summary: Our aim was to review published studies on psychological and social research conducted among men and women who were seeking treatment for infertility in Africa between 2000 and 2022. We initially found 2 373 articles that seemed appropriate but after screening these articles only included 116 in this review. We found that in Africa, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa produced the most studies on the psychological and social impact of infertility. Common areas of research include exploring patients quality of life, barriers to seeking fertility treatment, stigma and attitudes around infertility, social, cultural and religious issues relating to infertility. Background: Person-centred care is becoming increasingly recognised as an important element of palliative care. The current review syntheses evidence in relation to transitions in advanced cancer patients with palliative care needs. The review focuses on specific elements which will inform the Pal-Cycles programme, for patients with advanced cancer transitioning from hospital care to community care. Elements of transitional models for cancer patients may include, identification of palliative care needs, compassionate communication with the patient and family members, collaborative effort to establish a multi-dimensional treatment plan, review and evaluation of the treatment plan and identification of the end of life phase. Methods: A scoping review of four databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO) was conducted to identify peer-reviewed studies published from January 2013 to October, 2022. A further hand-search of references to locate additional relevant studies was also undertaken. Inclusion criteria involved cancer patients transitions of care with a minimum of two of components from those listed above. Studies were excluded if they were literature reviews, if transition of care was related to cancer survivors, involved non-cancer patients, had paediatric population, if the transition implied a change of therapy and or a lack of physical transit to a non-hospital place of care. This review was guided by Arksey and O'Malley's framework and narrative synthesis was used. Results: Out of 5695 records found, 14 records were selected. Transition models identified: increases in palliative care consultations, hospice referrals, reduction in readmission rates and the ability to provide end of life care at home. Transition models highlight emotional and spiritual support for patients and families. No uniform model of transition was apparent, this depends on the healthcare system where it is implemented. Conclusions: The findings highlight the importance of collaboration, coordination and communication as central mechanisms for transitional model for patients with advanced cancer. Background: Patients with multiple long-term conditions requires understanding the existing care models to address their complex and multifaceted health needs. However, current literature lacks a comprehensive overview of the essential components, impacts, challenges, and facilitators of these care models, prompting this scoping review. Methods: A scoping review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Extension for Scoping Reviews guideline. Our search encompassed articles from PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, SCOPUS, and Google Scholar. The World Health Organization's health system framework was utilized to synthesis the findings. This framework comprises six building blocks (service delivery, health workforce, health information systems, access to essential medicines, financing, and leadership/governance) and eight key characteristics of good service delivery models (access, coverage, quality, safety, improved health, responsiveness, social and financial risk protection, and improved efficiency). Findings were synthesized qualitatively to identify components, impacts, barriers, and facilitators of care models. Results: A care model represents various collective interventions in the healthcare delivery aimed at achieving desired outcomes. The names of these care models are derived from core activities or major responsibilities, involved healthcare teams, diseases conditions, eligible clients, purposes, and care settings. Notable care models include the Integrated, Collaborative, Integrated-Collaborative, Guided, Nurse-led, Geriatric, and Chronic care models, as well as All-inclusive Care Model for the Elderly, IMPACT clinic, and Geriatric Patient-Aligned Care Teams (GeriPACT). Other care models (include Care Management Plus, Value Stream Mapping, Preventive Home Visits, Transition Care, Self-Management, and Care Coordination) have supplemented the main ones. Care models improved quality of care (such as access, patient-centeredness, timeliness, safety, efficiency), cost of care, and quality of life for patients that were facilitated by presence of shared mission, system and function integration, availability of resources, and supportive tools. Conclusions: Care models were implemented for the purpose of enhancing quality of care, health outcomes, cost efficiency, and patient satisfaction by considering careful recruitment of eligible clients, appropriate selection of service delivery settings, and robust organizational arrangements involving leadership roles, healthcare teams, financial support, and health information systems. Background: Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) is a patient-centered approach to surgery designed to reduce stress responses and facilitate faster recovery. ERAS protocols have been widely adopted in high-income countries, supported by robust research demonstrating improved patient outcomes. However, in Africa, there is limited evidence regarding its implementation. This review aims to identify the existing literature on the implementation of ERAS principles in Africa, the reported clinical outcomes, and the challenges and recommendations for successful implementation. Methods: We conducted a librarian-assisted literature search of electronic research databases between October and November 2023. Titles and abstracts were screened for eligibility, and duplicates were then removed, followed by full-text assessment of potentially eligible studies. We utilized the summative content analysis method to synthesize and group the data into fewer categories based on agreed-upon criteria. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the results. Results: The search identified 342 potential studies resulting in 15 eligible studies for inclusion in the review. The publication years ranged from 2016 to 2023. The studies originated from three countries: Egypt (n = 10), South Africa (n = 4), and Uganda (n = 1). Successful implementation was associated with reduced hospital length of stay (n = 12), lower mortality rates (n = 3), and improved pain outcomes (n = 7). Challenges included protocol adherence (n = 5) and limitations of the research design to generate strong evidence (n = 3). Recommendations included formal adoption of ERAS principles (n = 5), the need for sustained research commitment, and exploration of the applicability of ERAS in diverse surgical contexts (n = 8). Large-scale implementation beyond individual institutions was encouraged to further validate its impact on patient outcomes and healthcare costs (n = 1). Conclusions: Despite the limited number of studies on ERAS implementation in Africa, the available evidence suggests that it reduces the length of hospital stays and mortality rates. Background: The health system plays a critical role in safeguarding the well-being of communities in the face of health risks associated with climate change. This review maps evidence on health systems' adaptation to climate risk and barriers to effective adaptation. Methods: This review followed the recommendations by Arksey and O'Malley for conducting scoping review. Search for records was conducted in PubMed, Central, Web of Science, JSTOR, Google, and Google Scholar. Only peer-reviewed papers published in English language were included in this review. All the 63 included studies were critically appraise d. Results: We found that efforts are being made to create resilient health systems by incorporating climate change into health policies. Investments are being made in innovative technologies, climate-resilient health infrastructure, enhancing healthcare delivery, developing the capacity of climate specialists and agencies to provide high-quality evidence for resilient health systems. We also found that several obstacles prevent health system adaptation to climate risk, including poor policy implementation and evaluation. The obstacles are further exacerbated by financial constraints, including poverty, a lack of political commitment, inadequate data, and deficient healthcare systems, especially in developing countries. There is also a lack of integration of climate change into mental health actions and the health and safety of healthcare workers. Conclusion: Efforts to develop resilient health systems against climate risks are underway, but persistent obstacles, including inadequate policy implementation, resource limitations, and a lack of integration of climate change into critical health domains, hinder comprehensive adaptation measures, particularly in developing nations. Background: Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is understudied in sub-Saharan Africa. The epidemiology of CL is determined by the species involved in its transmission. Our objectives were to systematically review available data on the species of Leishmania, along with vectors and reservoirs involved in the occurrence of human cases of CL in sub-Saharan Africa, and to discuss implications for case management and future research. Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane and African Index Medicus. There was no restriction on language or date of publication. The review was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines and was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42022384157). Results: In total, 188 published studies and 37 reports from the grey literature were included. An upward trend was observed, with 45.7% of studies published after 2010. East Africa (55.1%) represented a much greater number of publications than West Africa (33.3%). In East Africa, the identification of reservoirs for Leishmania tropica remains unclear. This species also represents a therapeutic challenge, as it is often resistant to meglumine antimoniate. In Sudan, the presence of hybrids between Leishmania donovani and strictly cutaneous species could lead to important epidemiological changes. In Ghana, the emergence of CL in the recent past could involve rare species belonging to the Leishmania subgenus Mundinia. The area of transmission of Leishmania major could expand beyond the Sahelian zone, with scattered reports in forested areas. While the L. major–Phlebotomus duboscqi–rodent complex may not be the only cycle in the dry areas of West Africa, the role of dogs as a potential reservoir for Leishmania species with cutaneous tropism in this subregion should be clarified. Meglumine antimoniate was the most frequently reported treatment, but physical methods and systemic agents such as ketoconazole and metronidazole were also used empirically to treat L. major infections. Conclusions: Though the number of studies on the topic has increased recently, there is an important need for intersectional research to further decipher the Leishmania species involved in human cases of CL as well as the corresponding vectors and reservoirs, and environmental factors that impact transmission dynamics. The development of molecular biology in sub-Saharan Africa could help in leveraging diagnostic and research capacities and improving the management of human cases through personalized treatment strategies. Background: An essential component of future-proofing health systems against future pandemics and climate change is strengthening the front lines of care: principally, emergency departments and primary care settings. To achieve this, these settings can adopt learning health system (LHS) principles, integrating data, evidence, and experience to continuously improve care delivery. This rapid review aimed to understand the ways in which LHS principles have been applied to primary care and emergency departments, the extent to which LHS approaches have been adopted in these key settings, and the factors that affect their adoption. Methods: Three academic databases (Embase, Scopus, and PubMed) were searched for full text articles reporting on LHSs in primary care and/or emergency departments published in the last five years. Articles were included if they had a primary focus on LHSs in primary care settings (general practice, allied health, multidisciplinary primary care, and community-based care) and/or emergency care settings. Data from included articles were catalogued and synthesised according to the modified Institute of Medicine's five-component framework for LHSs (science and informatics, patient-clinician partnerships, incentives, continuous learning culture, and structure and governance). Results: Thirty-seven articles were included, 32 of which reported LHSs in primary care settings and seven of which reported LHSs in emergency departments. Science and informatics was the most commonly reported LHS component, followed closely by continuous learning culture and structure and governance. Most articles (n = 30) reported on LHSs that had been adopted, and many of the included articles (n = 17) were descriptive reports of LHS approaches. Conclusions: Developing LHSs at the front lines of care is essential for future-proofing against current and new threats to health system sustainability, such as pandemic- and climate change-induced events. Limited research has examined the application of LHS concepts to emergency care settings. Implementation science should be utilised to better understand the factors influencing adoption of LHS approaches on the front lines of care, so that all five LHS components can be progressed in these settings. Background: Camostat mesylate, an oral serine protease inhibitor, is a powerful TMPRSS2 inhibitor and has been reported as a possible antiviral treatment against COVID-19. Therefore, we aim to assess the safety and efficacy of camostat mesylate for COVID-19 treatment. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis synthesizing randomized controlled trials from PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Cochrane, Web of Science, clinical trials.gov, and medrxiv until June 2023. The outcomes were pooled using Mean difference (MD) for continuous outcomes and risk ratio (RR) for dichotomous outcomes. The protocol is registered in PROSPERO with ID CRD42023439633. Results: Nine RCTs, including 1,623 patients, were included in this analysis. There was no difference between camostat mesylate and placebo in producing negative PCR test results at 1–7 days (RR: 0.76, 95% CI: [0.54, 1.06] P = 0.1), 8–14 days (RR: 1.02, 95% CI: [0.84, 1.23] P = 0.87), or 15–21 days (RR: 0.99, 95% CI: [0.82, 1.19] P = 0.90); clinical resolution of symptoms at 1–7 days (RR: 0.94 (95% CI: 0.58, 1.53) P = 0.81), 8–14 days (RR: 0.91, 95% CI: [0.74, 1.11] P = 0.33,), or 15–21 days (RR: 0.77, 95% CI: [0.40, 1.51] P = 0.45); and time to symptom improvement (MD:-0.38 weeks (95% CI: [-1.42, 0.66] P = 0.47, I2 = 85%). Background: Despite remarkable progress, HIV's influence on global health remains firm, demanding continued attention. Understanding the effectiveness of third-line antiretroviral therapy in individuals who do not respond to second-line drugs is crucial for improving treatment strategies. The virological outcomes of third-line antiretroviral therapy vary from study to study, highlighting the need for robust global estimates. Methods: A comprehensive search of databases including PubMed, MEDLINE, International Scientific Indexing, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, was conducted. STATA version 17 statistical software was used for analysis. A random-effects model was applied to compute the pooled estimates. Subgroup analysis, heterogeneity, publication bias, and sensitivity analysis were also performed. The prediction interval is computed to estimate the interval in which a future study will fall. The GRADE tool was also used to determine the quality of the evidence. Results: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, 15 studies involving 1768 HIV patients receiving third-line antiretroviral therapy were included. The pooled viral suppression of third-line antiretroviral therapy was 76.6% (95% CI: 71.5- 81.7%). The viral suppression rates at 6 and 12 months were 75.5% and 78.6%, respectively. Furthermore, third-line therapy effectively suppressed viral RNA copy numbers to ≤ 50 copies/mL, ≤ 200 copies/mL, and ≤ 400 copies/mL with rates of 70.7%, 85.4%, and 85.7%, respectively. Conclusion: More than three-fourths of patients on third-line antiretroviral therapy achieve viral suppression. Consequently, improving access to and timely initiation of third-line therapy may positively impact the quality of life for those with second-line treatment failure. Background: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a well-established treatment for high and intermediate-risk patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS). Recent studies have demonstrated non-inferiority of TAVI compared to surgery in low-risk patients. In the past decade, numerous literature reviews (SLRs) have assessed the use of TAVI in different risk groups. This is the first attempt to provide an overview of SRs (OoSRs) focusing on secondary studies reporting clinical outcomes/process indicators. This research aims to summarize the findings of extant literature on the performance of TAVI over time. Methods: A literature search took place from inception to April 2024. We searched MEDLINE and the Cochrane Library for SLRs. SLRs reporting at least one review of clinical indicators were included. Subsequently, a two-step inclusion process was conducted: [1] screening based on title and abstracts and [2] screening based on full-text papers. Relevant data were extracted and the quality of the reviews was assessed. Results: We included 33 SLRs with different risks assessed via the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) score. Mortality rates were comparable between TAVI and Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement (SAVR) groups. TAVI is associated with lower rates of major bleeding, acute kidney injury (AKI) incidence, and new-onset atrial fibrillation. Vascular complications, pacemaker implantation, and residual aortic regurgitation were more frequent in TAVI patients. Conclusion: This study summarizes TAVI performance findings over a decade, revealing a shift to include both high and low-risk patients since 2020. Aims and objectives: The aim of this study is to systematically review randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) studying various types of regenerative medicine methods (such as platelet-rich plasma, stromal vascular fraction, cell therapy, conditioned media, etc.) in treating specific dermatologic diseases. Rejuvenation, scarring, wound healing, and other secondary conditions of skin damage were not investigated in this study. Method: Major databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, were meticulously searched for RCTs up to January 2024, focusing on regenerative medicine interventions for specific dermatologic disorders (such as androgenetic alopecia, vitiligo, alopecia areata, etc.). Key data extracted encompassed participant characteristics and sample sizes, types of regenerative therapy, treatment efficacy, and adverse events. Results: In this systematic review, 64 studies involving a total of 2888 patients were examined. Women constituted 44.8% of the study population, while men made up 55.2% of the participants, with an average age of 27.64 years. The most frequently studied skin diseases were androgenetic alopecia (AGA) (45.3%) and vitiligo (31.2%). The most common regenerative methods investigated for these diseases were PRP and the transplantation of autologous epidermal melanocyte/keratinocyte cells, respectively. Studies reported up to 68.4% improvement in AGA and up to 71% improvement in vitiligo. Other diseases included in the review were alopecia areata, melasma, lichen sclerosus et atrophicus (LSA), inflammatory acne vulgaris, chronic telogen effluvium, erosive oral lichen planus, and dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. Regenerative medicine was found to be an effective treatment option in all of these studies, along with other methods. The regenerative medicine techniques investigated in this study comprised the transplantation of autologous epidermal melanocyte/keratinocyte cells, isolated melanocyte transplantation, cell transplantation from hair follicle origins, melanocyte–keratinocyte suspension in PRP, conditioned media injection, a combination of PRP and basic fibroblast growth factor, intravenous injection of mesenchymal stem cells, concentrated growth factor, stromal vascular fraction (SVF), a combination of PRP and SVF, and preserving hair grafts in PRP. Conclusion: Regenerative medicine holds promise as a treatment for specific dermatologic disorders. To validate our findings, it is recommended to conduct numerous clinical trials focusing on various skin conditions. In our study, we did not explore secondary skin lesions like scars or ulcers. Context: While a growing body of research has been demonstrating how exposure to social and built environments relate to various health outcomes, specific pathways generally remain poorly understood. But recent technological advancements have enabled new study designs through continuous monitoring using mobile sensors and repeated questionnaires. Such geographically explicit momentary assessments (GEMA) make it possible to link momentary subjective states, behaviors, and physiological parameters to momentary environmental conditions, and can help uncover the pathways linking place to health. Despite its potential, there is currently no review of GEMA studies detailing how location data is used to measure environmental exposure, and how this in turn is linked to momentary outcomes of interest. Moreover, a lack of standard reporting of such studies hampers comparability and reproducibility. Aims: The objectives of this research were twofold: 1) conduct a systematic review of GEMA studies that link momentary measurement with environmental data obtained from geolocation data, and 2) develop a STROBE extension guideline for GEMA studies. Method: The review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Inclusion criteria consisted of a combination of repeated momentary measurements of a health state or behavior with GPS coordinate collection, and use of these location data to derive momentary environmental exposures. To develop the guideline, the variables extracted for the systematic review were compared to elements of the STROBE (Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology) and CREMAS (CRedibility of Evidence from Multiple Analyses of the Same data) checklists, to provide a new guideline for GEMA studies. An international panel of experts participated in a consultation procedure to collectively develop the proposed checklist items. Results and developed tools: A total of 20 original GEMA studies were included in the review. Overall, several key pieces of information regarding the GEMA methods were either missing or reported heterogeneously. Our guideline provides a total of 27 categories (plus 4 subcategories), combining a total of 70 items. The 22 categories and 32 items from the original STROBE guideline have been integrated in our GEMA guideline. Eight categories and 6 items from the CREMAS guideline have been included to our guideline. We created one new category (namely "Consent") and added 32 new items specific to GEMA studies. Conclusions and recommendations: This study offers a systematic review and a STROBE extension guideline for the reporting of GEMA studies. The latter will serve to standardize the reporting of GEMA studies, as well as facilitate the interpretation of results and their generalizability. Background: Timely dispatch of appropriate emergency medical services (EMS) resources to the scene of medical incidents, and/or provision of treatment at the scene by bystanders and medical emergency lay callers (referred to as 'callers' in this review) can improve patient outcomes. Currently, in dispatch systems worldwide, prioritisation of dispatch relies mostly on verbal telephone information from callers, but advances in mobile phone technology provide means for sharing video footage. This scoping review aimed to map and identify current uses, opportunities, and challenges for using video livestreaming from callers' smartphones to emergency medical dispatch centres. Methods: A scoping review of relevant published literature between 2007 and 2023 in the English language, searched within MEDLINE; CINAHL and PsycINFO, was descriptively synthesised, adhering to the PRISMA extension for scoping reviews. Results: Twenty-four articles remained from the initial search of 1,565 articles. Most studies were simulation-based and focused on emergency medical dispatchers' (referred to as 'dispatcher/s' in this review) assisted video cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), predominantly concerned with measuring how video impacts CPR performance. Nine studies were based on real-life practice. Few studies specifically explored experiences of dispatchers or callers. Only three articles explored the impact that using video had on the dispatch of resources. Opportunities offered by video livestreaming included it being: perceived to be useful; easy to use; reassuring for both dispatchers and callers; and informing dispatcher decision-making. Challenges included the potential emotional impact for dispatchers and callers. There were also concerns about potential misuse of video, although there was no evidence that this was occurring. Evidence suggests a need for appropriate training of dispatchers and video-specific dispatch protocols. Conclusion: Research is sparse in the context of video livestreaming. Few studies have focussed on the use of video livestreaming outside CPR provision, such as for trauma incidents, which are by their nature time-critical where visual information may offer significant benefit. Further investigation into acceptability and experience of the use of video livestreaming is warranted, to understand the potential psychological impact on dispatchers and callers. Background: Mosquitoes of the Anopheles gambiae complex are one of the major vectors of malaria in sub-Saharan Africa. Their ability to transmit this disease of major public health importance is dependent on their abundance, biting behaviour, susceptibility and their ability to survive long enough to transmit malaria parasites. A deeper understanding of this behaviour can be exploited for improving vector surveillance and malaria control. Findings: Adult mosquitoes emerge from aquatic habitats at dusk. After a 24 h teneral period, in which the cuticle hardens and the adult matures, they may disperse at random and search upwind for a mate or to feed. Mating generally takes place at dusk in swarms that form over species-specific 'markers'. Well-nourished females may mate before blood-feeding, but the reverse is true for poorly-nourished insects. Females are monogamous and only mate once whilst males, that only feed on nectar, swarm nightly and can potentially mate up to four times. Females are able to locate hosts by following their carbon dioxide and odour gradients. When in close proximity to the host, visual cues, temperature and relative humidity are also used. Most blood-feeding occurs at night, indoors, with mosquitoes entering houses mainly through gaps between the roof and the walls. With the exception of the first feed, females are gonotrophically concordant and a blood meal gives rise to a complete egg batch. Egg development takes two or three days depending on temperature. Gravid females leave their resting sites at dusk. They are attracted by water gradients and volatile chemicals that provide a suitable aquatic habitat in which to lay their eggs. Conclusion: Whilst traditional interventions, using insecticides, target mosquitoes indoors, additional protection can be achieved using spatial repellents outdoors, attractant traps or house modifications to prevent mosquito entry. Future research on the variability of species-specific behaviour, movement of mosquitoes across the landscape, the importance of light and vision, reproductive barriers to gene flow, male mosquito behaviour and evolutionary changes in mosquito behaviour could lead to an improvement in malaria surveillance and better methods of control reducing the current over-reliance on the indoor application of insecticides. Background: Oral frailty has become a worldwide problem among older adults. Although researchers have conducted various studies on oral frailty, its definition remains controversial. Purpose: To clarify the concept of oral frailty. Methods: Online databases PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, ProQuest, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), and Wanfang database were searched from inception to September 20, 2023. The reference lists of relevant studies were searched manually. Eligible articles, theses, and books were analyzed using Walker & Avant's concept analysis model. Results: The attributes of oral frailty were abnormal oral structure and/or decline in multi-faceted oral function and coexisting decline in physical, cognitive and social functions. Its antecedents were aging, social frailty, and severe periodontitis, whereas its consequences were decline in physical health and mental health, social withdrawal, lower quality of life and systemic frailty. Conclusion: Oral frailty could result in worse conditions among older adults physically, psychologically and socially.
