Background: Sagittal and coronal standing radiographs have been the standard imaging for assessing spinal alignment. However, their disadvantages include distortion at the image edges and low interobserver reliability in some parameters. EOS® is a low-dose biplanar digital radiographic imaging system that can avoid distortion by obtaining high-definition images., Methods: This study aimed to evaluate spinopelvic parameters in conventional lateral C1S1 upright radiographs and EOS® images and compare them. Patients with non-deformity changes were subjected to routine clinical examinations. Plain AP and lateral X-ray radiographs were obtained along the entire spine length. Patients were also referred for full-length EOS® of the spine. Thoracic Kyphosis (TK), Lumbar Lordosis (LL), Pelvic Tilt (PT), Sacral Slope (SS), Pelvic Incidence (PI), and Sagittal Vertical Axis (SVA) were measured in the two studies by an orthopedic surgeon and a radiologist using PACS software. Also, the orthopedic surgeon evaluated the studies again after two weeks. Intra- and inter-observer reliability was then assessed using the interclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Also, the coefficient of variation was used to assess intra- and inter-observer reliability. Bland-Altman plots were drawn for each parameter., Results: The mean age was 48.2 ± 6.6 years. Among the 50 patients, 30 (60%) were female. The mean ICC for TK, LL, PT, SS, PI, and SVA in EOS® images are 0.95, 0.95, 0.92, 0.90, 0.94, and 0.98, respectively, and in C1S1 radiography images, it was 0.92, 0.87, 0.94, 0.88, 0.93, and 0.98, respectively which shows good to excellent results. The coefficient of variation for intraobserver reliability was relatively low (< 18.6%), while it showed higher percentages in evaluating interobserver reliability (< 54.5%). Also, the Bland-Altman plot showed good agreement for each parameter., Conclusion: Spinopelvic parameters, e.g., TK, LL, SS, PI, and SS, in EOS® are reliable and comparable to those in conventional lateral upright C1S1 radiographs., (© 2024. Quantifying the smoothness of different layers of the retina can potentially be an important and practical biomarker in various pathologic conditions like diabetic retinopathy. The purpose of this study is to develop an automated machine learning algorithm which uses support vector regression method with wavelet kernel and automatically segments two hyperreflective retinal layers (inner plexiform layer (IPL) and outer plexiform layer (OPL)) in 50 optical coherence tomography (OCT) slabs and calculates the smoothness index (SI). The Bland-Altman plots, mean absolute error, root mean square error and signed error calculations revealed a modest discrepancy between the manual approach, used as the ground truth, and the corresponding automated segmentation of IPL/ OPL, as well as SI measurements in OCT slabs. It was concluded that the constructed algorithm may be employed as a reliable, rapid and convenient approach for segmenting IPL/OPL and calculating SI in the appropriate layers., (© 2023. Introduction: Polypharmacy is commonly associated with adverse health outcomes. There are currently no meta-analyses of the prevalence of polypharmacy or factors associated with polypharmacy. We aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of polypharmacy and factors associated with polypharmacy in a systematic review and meta-analysis., Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases were searched for studies with no restrictions on date. We included observational studies that reported on the prevalence of polypharmacy among individuals over age 19. Two reviewers extracted study characteristics including polypharmacy definitions, study design, setting, geography, and participant demographics. The risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scales. The main outcome was the prevalence of polypharmacy and factors associated with polypharmacy prevalence. The pooled prevalence estimates of polypharmacy with 95% confidence intervals were determined using random effects meta-analysis. Subgroup analyses were undertaken to evaluate factors associated with polypharmacy such as polypharmacy definitions, study setting, study design and geography. Meta-regression was conducted to assess the associations between polypharmacy prevalence and study year., Results: 106 full-text articles were identified. The pooled estimated prevalence of polypharmacy in the 54 studies reporting on polypharmacy in all medication classes was 37% (95% CI: 31-43%). Differences in polypharmacy prevalence were reported for studies using different numerical thresholds, study setting, and publication year. Sex, study geography, study design and geographical location were not associated with differences in polypharmacy prevalence., Discussion: Our review highlights that polypharmacy is common particularly among older adults and those in inpatient settings. Clinicians should be aware of populations who have an increased likelihood of experiencing polypharmacy and efforts should be made to review the appropriateness of prescribed medications and occurrence of adverse effects potentially associated with polypharmacy., Conclusions and Implications: Clinicians should be aware of the common occurrence of polypharmacy and undertake efforts to minimize inappropriate polypharmacy whenever possible., (© 2022. Objective: Helicobacter pylori is one of the most common causes of gastric infections in humans. It is estimated that approximately 50% of people around the world are infected with this bacterium. This study aimed to determine the antibiotic resistance pattern, as well as the frequency of cagA and vacA genes in H. pylori isolates obtained from patients in the clinical centers in Tabriz city, Iran., Results: The culture method detected 100 (45.25%) H. pylori isolates from 221 biopsy samples during 3 years. The results showed that 63% and 81% of the isolates were positive for cagA and vacA genes, respectively. The highest resistance of isolates was seen against metronidazole (79%) and amoxicillin (36%), respectively. Also, the isolates showed the least resistance to tetracycline (8%).
