Background: Desmoplastic fibroma is a rare, benign bone tumor that exhibits locally aggressive behavior and typically occurs in the mandible and long bones. Its presence in small bones, particularly in the hallux, is exceedingly rare. Desmoplastic fibroma's unusual presentation in this region often mimics other lesions, such as glomus tumors, and poses significant diagnostic challenges. Case presentation: We present the case of a 38-year-old female with a history of trauma to the affected toe and thyroid cancer, who experienced persistent subungual pain, localized tenderness, and cold hypersensitivity in the hallux. Initial imaging (X-ray and MRI) revealed findings consistent with a glomus tumor, including bone erosion in the distal phalanx. Surgical excision with wide margins was performed due to the patient's cancer history, and histopathology unexpectedly identified the lesion as desmoplastic fibroma. The patient underwent regular follow-up with X-rays over two years, showing complete healing and no recurrence. Conclusions: The case emphasizes the necessity of sending excised specimens for pathological analysis to confirm the diagnosis. Documenting such atypical presentations contributes valuable information to the limited literature on desmoplastic fibroma and aids clinicians in recognizing this rare tumor in unusual locations, potentially improving diagnostic accuracy and management. Background: Cardiac rhabdomyoma (RHM) is considered one of the most frequent benign heart tumors in children. However, encounters with cardiac RHM in clinical practice remain rare. Clinical information is primarily available in the form of single case reports or smaller studies with a shortage of large-scale reviews encompassing a substantial number of cases. Results: In order to congregate existing and future information on cardiac RHM we established a web-based cardiac RHM online registry using an online survey tool. In addition we integrated previously published data from individual case reports and case series. The evaluation of this paper is intended to provide a brief overview of the cohort that we have been able to include so far. Our findings mainly confirm the previous knowledge on cardiac RHM. At the same time, our cohort shows a clear heterogeneity in the treatment methods with regard to rhabdomyomas requiring therapy and revealed a bias between literature data and our registry data with regard to symptoms and need for therapy. Conclusion: In the view of the heterogeneity of treatment methods, a systematic overview of cardiac RHM is all the more important, especially as specific drug treatment options now exist. The registry should not just provide a comprehensive and informative overview of causes, time course, symptoms and therapeutic options of cardiac RHM but also facilitate information sharing among clinicians and researchers and serve as a basis for future clinical and pharmacological studies. Background: Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is the most common benign tumor of the ribs, with surgical resection being the preferred treatment modality for rib FD, leading to enhanced quality of life and favorable outcomes. The complexity of surgical intervention varies depending on the location of costal FD, presenting challenges for both open surgical and thoracoscopic approaches. In this study, we present a novel technique for three-port robotic-assisted costectomy utilizing a Gigli saw, detailing our initial findings and outcomes. Methods: We reviewed five patients with benign rib tumors who underwent three-port robotic-assisted rib resection using a Gigli saw between May 2021 and December 2022. Data on patient characteristics, relevant short-term surgical outcomes and clinical long-term treatment effects were collected. Results: The surgery was successful in all five patients without any need for an additional port and emergency conversion to open surgery. Median operative time was 76.8 min (range, 73–116 min), and the median intraoperative blood loss volumes was 75 ml (range, 40– 105 mL). On average, chest tubes were removed 1.2 days postoperatively (range, 1–2 days), with a mean drainage volume of 93 ml on postoperative day 1 (range, 70–135 ml). Patients were discharged between the 2nd and 4th postoperative day. During 1-year follow-up period, no recurrence was observed in either patient. Conclusions: The utilization of a three-port robotic-assisted costectomy in conjunction with a Gigli saw represents a viable, secure, and efficient approach for treating isolated benign rib lesions. Background: Low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma is a rare soft tissue tumor characterized by a benign histological appearance but with a high potential for recurrence and metastasis. First described by Evans in 1987, recurrence and metastasis can occur decades after the initial diagnosis, complicating long-term management. Case presentation: We report the case of an 83-year-old Jewish female patient diagnosed with low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma in her right shoulder. The patient underwent wide resection with positive margins, followed by regular follow-ups. At 9 months postoperatively, she developed recurrence involving the right trapezius, thoracic vertebrae, ribs, and pleural cavity, a second local resection was performed. At 2 years post-surgery, the patient remains recurrence free. Conclusion: Low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma, though rare, presents a high risk for recurrence and metastasis. Long-term follow-up and vigilant monitoring are crucial, particularly in cases where positive surgical margins are involved. Surgery remains the cornerstone of treatment, but ongoing research into systemic therapies may offer new options for managing metastatic or recurrent low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma in the future. Background: Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma, previously called malignant fibrous histiocytoma, is a type of malignant mesenchymal tumor (sarcoma) of soft tissue and sometimes bone. It is uncommon in the oral cavity and very sporadic in the maxillary sinus. Microscopic diagnosis of this malignancy in the maxillary sinus can be very challenging, because there is a range of features that may overlap with other benign and malignant tumors. Case presentation: In this paper, we report a case of undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma in the maxillary sinus of a 61-year-old Iranian man who was referred to the maxillofacial surgery ward due to pain and swelling of the upper jaw and visual problems in the right eye. In the initial incisional biopsy, peripheral giant cell granuloma was diagnosed in the hospital service. Yet, on request of the surgeon, during reviewing the slides in the oral pathology service of the School of Dentistry, and using an immunohistochemical method, undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma was diagnosed. In this paper, a case of undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma in the maxillary sinus is reported, with an emphasis on the management of its problems and diagnostic errors. Conclusion: This study reviews the challenges and histopathological diagnostic errors of this uncommon tumor in this rare location. Background: Mature teratomas are benign cystic tumors that are most commonly asymptomatic. However, in some cases, mediastinal teratomas rupture the lungs and mediastinum with potentially fatal outcomes. Herein, we report a case of a large mediastinal mature teratoma that expanded to the entire left hemithorax in a child with common cold-like symptoms. Case presentation. A 2-year-7-month old girl visited a family doctor because of cough and rhinorrhea. Chest radiography revealed a large tumor occupying the left hemithorax, necessitating transfer to our institution. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed a large tumor with calcifications and an encapsulated surface. The lesion was 10.5 cm in size and covered the entire left hemithorax, deviating significantly from the heart. CT suggested a mature mediastinal teratoma. Considering the risk of tumor dissemination, we did not perform a diagnostic biopsy; however, surgery was performed as an oncological emergency. As ventilation and circulation were difficult to maintain during the surgery, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation was performed. During surgery, although the large tumor tightly adhered to the sternum and innominate vein, it could be safely removed from these structures, and the tumor was completely removed through median sternotomy. The pathological diagnosis revealed a benign mature mediastinal teratoma. The patient's postoperative course was uneventful. Background: A phyllodes tumor (PT) is a biphasic fibroepithelial lesion that is most commonly found in breast tissue, whereas it is uncommon in ureter tissue. Only one case has been documented so far. There are some similarities in histology and clinical characteristics between this type of tumor and PT of the female breast: the lesions can be surgically removed, but some recur locally and invade directly into the breast. This case of a primary PT of the ureter is useful for pathologists and clinicians. Highlights: I feel such great honor to have this opportunity to submit my paper to your magazine. Although this is a case report, There is only one case report published until now regarding benign phyllodes tumor of the distal end of ureter. The mechanism of this tumor still remained unclear. Background: Though rare, benign lesions that usually do not necessitate active intervention, osteomas of the external auditory canal, can be troublesome when they start to produce mass effect and severe obstruction to the external auditory canal. Even more insidious is the rarer phenomenon of canal wall cholesteatomas, which have been known to cause significant canal erosion and if left unchecked and spontaneous destruction of the adjacent anatomical structures, including the facial nerve, temporomandibular joint, sigmoid sinus, and skull base. The occurrence of both these exceptionally uncommon findings in the same canal is an unusual finding and may point to an undetermined interplay in pathogenesis. Case presentation: Here, we describe one such case in a 39-year-old gentleman hailing from South India who presented with complaint of unilateral ear block and decreased hearing and how it was managed. Conclusions: While osteomas are usually incidental findings in asymptomatic patients, the potential for mass effect and canal obstruction must be kept in mind and patients must be evaluated for development of the more sinister cholesteatoma in the deeper canal. Background: Osteomas are the most common benign tumors of the sinonasal region. Often asymptomatic, they are frequently discovered incidentally during imaging studies conducted for unrelated conditions. Osteomas typically range in size from 2 to 30 mm; those larger than 30 mm or weighing more than 110 g are classified as "big" or "giant" osteomas. Giant osteomas of the paranasal sinuses are extremely rare and can extend into the intraorbital or cerebral space, leading to significant complications. When osteomas become symptomatic, the standard treatment is surgical intervention to alleviate associated issues and prevent further progression. Case presentation: This report discusses a case of a giant fronto-ethmoidal osteoma (45 × 42 mm) with intracranial and orbital extension, focusing on the clinical presentation, diagnostic process, and surgical management. We present the case of a 30-year-old Black female patient from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with a fronto-ethmoidal osteoma causing compression of the ocular globe and the left frontal lobe. Given the intracranial extension, a combined surgical team consisting of an ENT surgeon and a neurosurgeon was assembled to address the case. The surgery was performed via an external and lateral rhinotomy with a Lynch extension approach, aiming for complete resection of the osteoma originating from the frontal sinus and extending into the orbit and intracranial space. Conclusion: Giant sinonasal osteomas are rare tumors. The primary goal of treatment is to completely remove the tumor using a combined endoscopic and external approach. Atypical cellular neurothekeoma is a rare benign soft-tissue tumour that usually arises in the head and neck region, shoulder girdles, and proximal extremities, predominantly in young women. This dermal neoplasm is under-reported in the literature and is not uncommonly misdiagnosed as a malignant tumour due to its worrisome histologic characteristics. Currently, the diagnosis of cellular neurothekeoma relies on a panel of non-specific immunohistochemical markers and its etiopathogenesis is unknown. Herein, we present the case of an atypical cellular neurothekeoma in the arm of a 49-year-old woman, describing its microscopic features and immunohistochemical profile. Additionally, we present a novel heterozygous predicted inactivating NF1 mutation, not previously reported, which was identified using high-throughput molecular techniques. Such finding might provide insights into the pathogenesis of neurothekeoma, potentially contributing to future refinements in diagnosis, which would enable more precise identification of this neoplasm. Background: Pilomatrixoma is an uncommon benign skin neoplasm originating from the hair follicle. Here, we report a rare case of giant and atypical proliferating pilomatrixoma affecting the eyelid. Case presentation: A 47-year-old male presented with a solitary, giant mass on his left upper eyelid, which had recently shown progressive enlargement. The lesion appeared well-circumscribed with a firm consistency, and measuring 7 × 10 cm. Orbital computed tomography scan revealed no intraorbital extension. The lesion was surgically excised. Histopathological examination identified the mass as an atypical proliferating pilomatrixoma, characterized by a minimal infiltrating margin of the deep plane and focal cytological atypia of the basaloid cells. No recurrence was observed up to one year postoperatively. Conclusions: Pilomatrixoma is a rare periocular tumor with potential for malignant transformation, often mimicking other lesions in this region. Detecting brain tumors early on is critical for effective treatment and life-saving efforts. The analysis of the brain with MRI scans is fundamental to the diagnosis because it contains detailed structural views of the brain, which is vital in identifying any of its abnormalities. The other option of performing an invasive biopsy is very painful and uncomfortable, which is not the case with MRI as it is free from surgically invasive margins and pieces of equipment. This helps patients to feel more at ease and hasten the diagnostic procedure, allowing physicians to formulate and practice action plans quicker. It is very difficult to locate a human brain tumor by manual because MRI scans produce large numbers of three-dimensional images. Complete applicability of pre-written computerized diagnostics, affords high possibilities in providing areas of interest earlier through the application of machine learning techniques and algorithms. The proposed work in the present study was to develop a deep learning model which will classify brain tumor grade images (BTGC), and hence enhance accuracy in diagnosing patients with different grades of brain tumors using MRI. A MobileNetV2 model, was used to extract the features from the images. This model increases the efficiency and generalizability of the model further. In this study, six standard Kaggle brain tumor MRI datasets were used to train and validate the developed and tested model of a brain tumor detection and classification algorithm into several types. This work consists of two key components: (i) brain tumor detection and (ii) classification of the tumor. The tumor classifications are conducted in both three classes (Meningioma, Pituitary, and glioma) and two classes (malignant, benign). The model has been reported to detect brain tumors with 99.85% accuracy, to distinguish benign and malignant tumors with 99.87% accuracy, and to type meningioma, pituitary, and glioma tumors with 99.38% accuracy. Backgrounds: Preoperative imaging, particularly with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scans, plays a crucial role in distinguishing between benign and malignant parotid gland tumors, while the reliability of Ultrasound-Guided Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) in diagnosing these masses remains a topic of debate. Methods: This two-center retrospective analysis was conducted on 347 patients with parotid gland tumors who had FNA and preoperative imaging (CT or MRI). All patients underwent surgery and final histopathological examination was available, along with complete medical records between January 2008 and May 2023. Results: Among the 347 patients, 318 (92%) had benign and 10 (3%) had malignant tumors based on FNA, with 19 (5%) unsatisfactory specimens. Final histological diagnosis revealed 303 (87%) benign and 44 (13%) malignant lesions, with a false-negative rate of 10.6% for FNA. Multivariate analysis identified irregular shape and invasion as independent predictors of malignancy in patient with benign or unsatisfactory FNA results. The odds ratio for irregular shape was 3.06 and for invasion was 12.73. Conclusion: Imaging characteristics, such as irregular shape and invasion may indicate towards malignant parotid tumors, even in patients with false-negative benign findings in FNA. Background: Duodenal papillary adenoma, a potentially malignant benign tumor is primarily treated with endoscopic papillectomy. Despite its efficacy, endoscopic papillectomy has a high complication rate. This study investigates whether pancreatic duct and common bile duct stent placement can mitigate these complications. Methods: In a retrospective observational analysis, 79 patients with duodenal papillary adenoma, treated with endoscopic papillectomy at our center, were studied. The cohort included patients who underwent endoscopic papillectomy with no stents placement, common bile duct stent placement alone, pancreatic duct stent placement alone, or stents placement in both ducts. We assessed the outcomes of endoscopic papillectomy, including complete resection rate and recurrence rate as the primary and secondary outcomes respectively. In the meantime, the incidence of complications were also analysed as the safety outcomes. Results: Complete resection rates did not significantly differ between patients with or without stent placement (85.7% P group vs. 89.2% N-P group, P = 0.64). Early complication rates were similar across groups. However, significant reduction in common bile duct stenosis was observed in the stenting group (0% B group vs. 10.5% N-B group, P = 0.03). Furthermore, stent placement correlated with lower adenoma recurrence rates during follow-up (2.4% P group vs. 16.2% N-P group, P = 0.03; 2.4% B group vs. 15.8% N-B group, P = 0.04). Conclusions: Pancreatic duct and common bile duct stent placement in endoscopic papillectomy may decrease late complications, particularly common bile duct stenosis, and reduce the recurrence of duodenal papillary adenoma. Aims: This study aims to examine cases identified with endometrial polyp and carcinoma originating from polyps in patients presenting with gynaecological problems, and to highlight the significance of risk factors contributing to malignancy. Materials and methods: The study comprised 203 patients who visited our clinic between January 2019 and 2024 with various gynaecological problems and were identified with endometrial polyps after a clinical, radiographic, and laboratory assessment. We retrospectively analysed data from 191 benign endometrial polyps and hyperplasia without atypia and 12 patients with endometrial polyps and underlying endometrial hyperplasia with atypia and/or endometrial carcinoma, diagnosed histopathologically after hysteroscopic resection, retrieved from our hospital's electronic archive system. Two hundred three participants were tested in the study, with 191 classifieds with benign tumours and 12 diagnosed with malignant tumours and atypical endometrial hyperplasia (premalignant). Cases were chosen according on consistent criteria for age, BMI, gravida, parity, abortion, educational level, smoking habits, operation history, and co-morbidities. After determining the sample size for the malignant group, patients from the control group were selected to be included in the study. Initially, patients with similar age and BMI distributions were included into the study. Next, the cases were analysed for similarities in gravida, parity, and abortion parameters, and those that matched were chosen. Following this step, the educational status was compared for resemblance, and examples with matching educational status were chosen. Consequently, the study covered a total of 34 patients, with 12 identified with malignant tumours and atypical endometrial hyperplasia (premalignant) and 22 with benign tumours. Two groups of cases were diagnosed with endometrial polyp, and risk factors that may cause the development of endometrial polyp and underlying carcinoma: age, gravida, parity, abortion, education level, smoking, previous operation history, comorbidity, gynaecological complaints, fasting blood sugar, CRP values, haemoglobin, and haematocrit were evaluated in terms of endometrial polyp sizes, endometrial thickness level, and endometrial polyp localization. By examining the pathological risk factors of these cases, particularly during the premenopausal period, the goal is to predict endometrial cancer, the most prevalent gynaecological cancer in women, along with its antecedents, and implement preventive measures proactively. Results: Age, BMI, gravida, parity, number of abortions, educational status, smoking status, operation history, co-morbidity, and complaint variables did not exhibit a statistically significant difference between the groups (p > 0.05). It was revealed that the FBG level, CRP level, Polyp length and Endometrial thickness level of the malignant group were statistically significantly higher than the benign group (p < 0.01) (p < 0.05). Upon analysing the FBG distribution among groups, it is noted that the ODDS ratio is 10.20 for FBG values of 122.5 and above (95% CI: 1.97 – 52.78). Upon analysing the CRP distribution by groups, it is noted that the ODDS ratio is 231 for CRP values of 9.7 and above (95% CI: 13.15 – 4058.67). Upon analysing the distribution of Polyp length based on groups, it was determined that the ODDS ratio is 13.5 for Polyp lengths of 2.25 and above (95% CI: 2.47 – 73.71). Upon analysing the distribution of EM thickness based on groups, it is shown that the ODDS ratio is 5.25 for EM thicknesses of 11 and above (95% CI: 1.09 – 25.21). Conclusion: Endometrial polyps are common benign growths that are typically not seen as cancer precursors but may be linked to cancer in people with advanced age. It is vital to remember that in cases of endometrial polyps, variables such as increasing polyp length, endometrial thickness, fasting glucose level, and elevated CRP levels are significant risk factors for the development of cancer associated with polyps. Background: Cardiac lipoma, a seldom-encountered benign tumor positioned beneath the endocardium, has the potential to impair electrophysiological functions. Diagnosis is principally based on imaging modalities. The uniqueness of this case lies in the tumor's extension both internally and externally within the right atrium, rendering it of special interest. From a clinical standpoint, surgical removal is commonly advocated, wherein early intervention is pivotal in improving patients' long-term prognoses. Case presentation: A 35-year-old male was admitted to the hospital for treatment subsequent to the identification of a cardiac mass two days prior. Initial diagnostic assessments, encompassing CT scans and echocardiography, identified a space-occupying lesion within the heart. The patient underwent surgical excision of the cardiac tumor, utilizing mild hypothermic extracorporeal circulation via femoral vessel access. Intraoperative findings revealed adipose-like tissue of a "dumbbell-shaped" configuration situated both within and external to the right atrium, measuring approximately 8 cm*9 cm internally and 7 cm*6 cm externally, with the extracardiac mass being marginally larger. Postoperative pathological analysis confirmed a cardiac lipoma diagnosis. A follow-up echocardiogram conducted three months post-surgery exhibited no notable abnormalities. The patient is under continuous observation to monitor for any recurrence or potential long-term complications. Conclusion: In this case report, we detail with precision a rare cardiac pathology manifested by an expansive infiltrative lipoma that pervades the endocardial and epicardial layers of the right atrium. After thorough preoperative diagnostic workup and evaluation, we contend that surgical intervention represents the optimal therapeutic approach for managing such conditions, with the goal of preemptively reducing the likelihood of cardiac compression or intracardiac obstruction. Single-cell technology depicts integrated tumor profiles including both tumor cells and tumor microenvironments, which theoretically enables more robust diagnosis than traditional diagnostic standards based on only pathology. However, the inherent challenges of single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data, such as high dimensionality, low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), sparse and non-Euclidean nature, pose significant obstacles for traditional diagnostic approaches. The diagnostic value of single-cell technology has been largely unexplored despite the potential advantages. Here, we present a graph neural network-based framework tailored for molecular diagnosis of primary liver tumors using scRNA-seq data. Our approach capitalizes on the biological plausibility inherent in the intercellular communication networks within tumor samples. By integrating pathway activation features within cell clusters and modeling unidirectional inter-cellular communication, we achieve robust discrimination between malignant tumors (including hepatocellular carcinoma, HCC, and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, iCCA) and benign tumors (focal nodular hyperplasia, FNH) by scRNA data of all tissue cells and immunocytes only. The efficacy to distinguish iCCA from HCC was further validated on public datasets. Through extending the application of high-throughput scRNA-seq data into diagnosis approaches focusing on integrated tumor microenvironment profiles rather than a few tumor markers, this framework also sheds light on minimal-invasive diagnostic methods based on migrating/circulating immunocytes. Interactions between colorectal cancer (CRC) cells and the noncancerous cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) induce mechanisms for the escape of tumor cells from immune attack. Hepcidin, a peptide that controls immune cell functions, is overproduced by CRC cells. This study aimed to evaluate whether hepcidin acts as a regulator of anti-tumor immunity in CRC. Hepcidin silencing in CRC cells was followed by enhanced TNF-driven caspase-dependent cleavage of GSDM E and death. Mice engrafted with hepcidin-deficient CT26 cells developed fewer and smaller tumors than control mice as a result of the action of tumor-infiltrating CD8+ T lymphocytes and were protected from the development of tumors in a vaccination model and exhibited long-lasting tumor protection. Additionally, hepcidin deficiency enhanced the response of mice bearing CT26-derived tumors to anti-PD-1 therapy. These results suggest that targeting hepcidin in CRC cells enhances the production of TNF thereby triggering a caspase/GSDM E-driven lytic cell death with the downstream effect of boosting a robust immune response against tumor antigens. Benign cardiac neoplasms are relatively uncommon. Cardiac leiomyomas are usually diagnosed as a benign metastasizing leiomyoma or as a part of intravenous leiomyomatosis spectrum. Primary cardiac leiomyomas are extremely rare and should be diagnosed after ruling out the involvement of systemic leiomyomas. Only nine cases were found in the literature that described De novo occurrence of primary intra-cardiac leiomyoma. In this study, we present a case of 60-year-old female patient with a large pedunculated mass located in the left ventricle. Histopathology examination and immunohistochemistry aid confirmed the diagnosis of benign leiomyoma. No evidence of extra cardiac lesions was detected in the patient. The patient remained healthy with no signs of recurrence four years after the surgical resection. Benign cardiac tumors are not often seen, but when they do occur, they can present a serious risk to life. This is particularly significant because these tumors can detach and cause embolization, leading to the development of strokes. Moreover, these individuals do not show any clinical symptoms, making their detection quite challenging. When there is a suspicion, it is advised to utilize echocardiography and other imaging techniques to verify the presence of a tumor. Background: Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the deadliest gynaecological cancer with high mortality rates driven by the common development of resistance to chemotherapy. EOC frequently invades the omentum, an adipocyte-rich organ of the peritoneum and omental adipocytes have been implicated in promoting disease progression, metastasis and chemoresistance. The signalling mechanisms underpinning EOC omentum tropism have yet to be elucidated. Methods: Three-dimensional co-culture models were used to explore adipocyte-EOC interactions. The impact of adipocytes on EOC proliferation, response to therapy and invasive capacity was assessed. Primary adipocytes and omental tissue were isolated from patients with ovarian malignancies and benign ovarian neoplasms. Exosomes were isolated from omentum tissue conditioned media and the effect of omentum-derived exosomes on EOC evaluated. Exosomal microRNA (miRNA) sequencing was used to identify miRNAs abundant in omental exosomes and EOC cells were transfected with highly abundant miRNAs miR-21, let-7b, miR-16 and miR-92a. Results: We demonstrate the capacity of adipocytes to induce an invasive phenotype in EOC populations through driving epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Exosomes secreted by omental tissue of ovarian cancer patients, as well as patients without malignancies, induced proliferation, upregulated EMT markers and reduced response to paclitaxel therapy in EOC cell lines and HGSOC patient samples. Analysis of the omentum-derived exosomes from cancer patients revealed highly abundant miRNAs that included miR-21, let-7b, miR-16 and miR-92a that promoted cancer cell proliferation and protection from chemotherapy when transfected in ovarian cancer cells. Conclusions: These observations highlight the capacity of omental adipocytes to generate a pro-tumorigenic and chemoprotective microenvironment in ovarian cancer and other adipose-related malignancies. Objective: Cancer is currently the most common cause of death in adult dogs. Like humans, dogs have a one-third chance of developing cancer in their lifetime. We used shallow whole-genome sequencing (sWGS) to analyze blood cell-free DNA (cfDNA) from four tumor-bearing dogs (one with benign and three with malignant tumors) and 38 healthy dogs. Results: Similar to the results observed in the healthy dogs, no copy number aberration (CNA) was detected in the dog with benign lipomas, and the distribution of cfDNA fragment size (FS) closely resembled that of the healthy dogs. However, among the three dogs diagnosed with malignant tumors, two dogs exhibited varying degrees and quantities of CNAs. Compared to the distribution of FS in the healthy dogs, the cancer dogs exhibited a noticeable shift towards shorter lengths. High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) ablation represents a rapidly advancing non-invasive treatment modality that has achieved considerable success in addressing uterine fibroids, which constitute over 50% of benign gynecological tumors. Preoperative Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) plays a pivotal role in the planning and guidance of HIFU surgery for uterine fibroids, wherein the segmentation of tumors holds critical significance. The segmentation process was previously manually executed by medical experts, entailing a time-consuming and labor-intensive procedure heavily reliant on clinical expertise. This study introduced deep learning-based nnU-Net models, offering a cost-effective approach for their application in the segmentation of uterine fibroids utilizing preoperative MRI images. Furthermore, 3D reconstruction of the segmented targets was implemented to guide HIFU surgery. The evaluation of segmentation and 3D reconstruction performance was conducted with a focus on enhancing the safety and effectiveness of HIFU surgery. Results demonstrated the nnU-Net's commendable performance in the segmentation of uterine fibroids and their surrounding organs. Specifically, 3D nnU-Net achieved Dice Similarity Coefficients (DSC) of 92.55% for the uterus, 95.63% for fibroids, 92.69% for the spine, 89.63% for the endometrium, 97.75% for the bladder, and 90.45% for the urethral orifice. Compared to other state-of-the-art methods such as HIFUNet, U-Net, R2U-Net, ConvUNeXt and 2D nnU-Net, 3D nnU-Net demonstrated significantly higher DSC values, highlighting its superior accuracy and robustness. In conclusion, the efficacy of the 3D nnU-Net model for automated segmentation of the uterus and its surrounding organs was robustly validated. When integrated with intra-operative ultrasound imaging, this segmentation method and 3D reconstruction hold substantial potential to enhance the safety and efficiency of HIFU surgery in the clinical treatment of uterine fibroids. Background: Angioleiomyoma, a benign tumour composed of smooth muscle cells and thick-walled vessels, is expected to be very rare in the female genital tract. This study aimed to describe the clinicopathological features and treatment outcomes of angioleiomyoma in the female genital tract. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 89 women with angioleiomyoma in the genital tract who were treated at Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University between July 2008 and October 2023. Symptom remission rate was the primary outcome of the study. Results: Angioleiomyomas accounted for 0.6% of leiomyomas of the female genital tract. The average age of the 89 women was 41.8 ± 8.7 years. Seventy women (78.7%) had a history of uterine surgery, of whom two patients had removed uterine angioleiomyoma by laparoscopic myomectomy. The angioleiomyomas of 61 (68.5%) women were located in the uterine corpus, 17 (19.1%) in the broad ligament, 10 (11.2%) in the cervix and only 1 (1.1%) in the vagina. Abnormal uterine bleeding was the main clinical manifestation of angioleiomyomas located in the uterine corpus or cervix, whereas the main clinical manifestation of angioleiomyomas in the broad ligaments was pelvic mass. Of the 89 women, 59 underwent surgery to preserve the uterus, and 30 underwent total hysterectomy or subtotal hysterectomy. The intraoperative blood loss was more than 500 ml (700–4,500 ml) in six women. The symptom remission rate was 100% after surgery. Among the 59 women with preserved uterus, 8 showed multiple uterine leiomyomas during follow-up, but it was difficult to determine whether they were angioleiomyomas. Angioleiomyomas recurred in one women who underwent total hysterectomy. Conclusion: Angioleiomyoma is rare in the female reproductive tract, and patients may present with diverse symptoms, which are related to the location of the tumour. Hysterectomy and myomectomy are both effective treatment methods, but the risk of intraoperative bleeding should be recognised for multiple lesions and those with large diameters. Background: Primary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma is a rare neoplasia of the sweat gland. The age-adjusted incidence was 0.024 tumors per 100,000 person-years. It is possible that the actual number of tumors may be slightly higher than previously estimated as some cases of primary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma may have been mistaken for benign tumors and removed by laser therapy without histologic examination. Case presentation: We report a 58-year-old Chinese man with primary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma. The patient presented to our care with an indolent nodule on the left cheek, which was proven to be a mucinous adenocarcinoma by excisional biopsy and immunohistochemical staining. Following a comprehensive evaluation, including whole-body computed tomography and positron emission tomography, metastases from other sites were ruled out and the patient was diagnosed with primary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma. The patient underwent an additional wide resection surgery to ensure a safe margin and was then recommended to undergo regular follow-up. Conclusion: This case is one of the few published Chinese cases in literature of primary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma. Diagnosis of primary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma is challenging, and treatment options are limited. Collaboration between clinicians and pathologists is crucial for optimal outcomes. Rationale: Warthin tumor (WT) is the second most common benign tumor in salivary gland. It has a slow growth rate and most frequently occurs in the parotid gland. Most patients present with an incidental finding of a painless mass inferior/anterior to the ear. Besides the epithelial component of the tumor, WT is characteristically associated with lymphoid stroma that is considered benign. While there have been a few reports of malignant transformation of the lymphoid components in WT, cases of WT concomitant with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) are extremely rare. To the best of our knowledge, two cases have been described in the English literature. Herein, we report a case of WT concomitant with MCL in a 70-year-old female patient, and emphasize the importance of careful examination of lymphoid stroma in WT so that concurrent lymphoma is not missed. Patient concerns: A 70-year-old Chinese woman with a 40-year history of cigarette smoking presented with a one year history of a right submaxillary mass with recent enlargement. Diagnosis: Cervical ultrasound (US) and computed tomography (CT) scans of the neck revealed a well-circumscribed mass in the right parotid with a maximum diameter of 3.1 cm. Surgical resection of the mass was performed. Histopathological examination revealed a characteristic double-layer of neoplastic epithelium with prominent lymphoid stroma, suggesting WT. In addition, morphology and immunohistochemistry studies confirmed the coexistence of MCL. Thereafter, the final diagnosis of this case was WT concomitant with MCL. Interventions: The patient was staged as stage I after clinical assessment. Due to the slow growth of parotid lesions, close observation was decided with periodic clinical and radiological monitoring. Outcomes: Currently, the patient demonstrates a stable disease by clinical evaluation. Lessons: To the best of our knowledge, reported cases of WT concomitant with MCL are very rare. Background: Cellular angiofibroma is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor that mostly occurs in the genital area. Its occurrence outside this region, particularly in the pelvis, is extremely rare. To our knowledge, this study reports the first case of cellular angiofibroma occurring in the pelvic cavity, except for one case reported in the retroperitoneum. Case presentation: A 25-year-old female patient with chronic, intermittent, dull pain in the lower abdomen that lasted for several months was referred to our clinic. Imaging studies revealed a tumor in the pelvic cavity anterior to the bladder. The radiographic characteristics of this tumor indicated a hypervascular nature, suggesting the possibility of a pheochromocytoma or a neuroendocrine tumor. The patient underwent surgical excision of the lesion. To date, no recurrence has been observed four months after excision. Conclusions: Cellular angiofibroma, although rare in the pelvic cavity, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of hypervascular pelvic space-occupying lesions. Background: Partial nephrectomy (PN) has become the dominant treatment modality for cT1 renal tumor lesions. Tumors suspected of malignant potential are indicated for surgery, but some are histologically classified as benign lesions after surgery. This study aims to analyze the number of benign findings after PN according to definitive histology and to evaluate whether there is an association between malignant tumor findings and individual factors. Methods: The retrospective study included 555 patients who underwent open or robotic-assisted PN for a tumor in our clinic from January 2013 to December 2020. The cohort was divided into groups according to definitive tumor histology (malignant tumors vs. benign lesions). The association of factors (age, sex, tumor size, R.E.N.A.L.) with the malignant potential of the tumor was further evaluated. Results: In total, 462 tumors were malignant (83%) and 93 benign (17%). Of the malignant tumors, 66% were clear-cell RCC (renal cell carcinoma), 12% papillary RCC, and 6% chromophobe RCC. The most common benign tumor was oncocytoma in 10% of patients, angiomyolipoma in 2%, and papillary adenoma in 1%. In univariate analysis, there was a higher risk of malignant tumor in males (OR 2.13, 95% CI 1.36–3.36, p = 0.001), a higher risk of malignancy in tumors larger than 20 mm (OR 2.32, 95% CI 1.43–3.74, p < 0.001), and a higher risk of malignancy in tumors evaluated by R.E.N.A.L. as tumors of intermediate or high complexity (OR 2.8, 95% CI 1.76–4.47, p < 0.001). In contrast, there was no association between older age and the risk of malignant renal tumor (p = 0.878). Conclusions: In this group, 17% of tumors had benign histology. Uterine fibroids are common benign tumors originating from the uterus's smooth muscle layer, often leading to symptoms such as pelvic pain, and reproductive issues. Early detection is crucial to prevent complications such as infertility or the need for invasive treatments like hysterectomy. One of the main challenges in diagnosing uterine fibroids is the lack of specific symptoms, which can mimic other gynecological conditions. This often leads to under-diagnosis or misdiagnosis, delaying appropriate management. In this research, an attention based fine-tuned EfficientNetB0 model is proposed for the classification of uterine fibroids from ultrasound images. Attention mechanisms, permit the model to focus on particular parts of an image and move forward the model's execution by empowering it to specifically go to imperative highlights whereas overlooking irrelevant ones. The proposed approach has used a total of 1990 images divided into two classes: Non-uterine fibroid and uterine fibroid. The data augmentation methods have been connected to improve generalization and strength by exposing it to a wider range of varieties within the training data. The proposed model has obtained the value of accuracy as 0.99. Background: Hepatocellular adenoma is a rare benign liver tumor. Typically, hepatocellular adenomas are solitary and are found in young women who use estrogen-containing contraceptives. The occurrence of multiple hepatocellular adenoma has been linked to higher body mass index, and as the prevalence of overweight increases, multiple hepatocellular adenomas are seen more often. An hepatocellular adenoma does not always necessitate treatment, as they can regress under conservative strategies. In incidental cases, an adenoma presents owing to bleeding, which is mostly self-limiting. If it is not, embolization of hepatic involved vessels is indicated. Case presentation: In this case report, we discuss a 42-year old Caucasian woman with multiple hepatocellular bleeds, treated by multiple endovascular procedures. After the first embolization of an adenoma in the right liver lobe, a second bleed occurred in the left lobe, necessitating additional endovascular intervention. During admittance, treatment was complicated by pulmonary embolism and a pneumonia. During follow-up, our patient was diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome. Conclusion: Hepatocellular adenoma is a rare diagnosis that requires centralized expertise. This particular case illustrates the complexity of treatment strategies for associated intra-abdominal bleeding and possible complications. Although liver adenoma is often an incidental finding, it can also result in significant morbidity. Centralization of treatment leads to expertise in managing complex treatment strategies. Background: Myelolipoma is an uncommon benign tumor composed of mature adipose tissue and hematopoietic elements. These tumors generally affect the adrenal glands, with anomalous presentations being rare and with few cases described in the literature. Most myelolipomas are asymptomatic and discovered incidentally, either through imaging tests or at autopsies. However, depending on the location and size of the lesion, myelolipomas can cause symptoms of mass effect. This article aims to report a very rare presentation of a symptomatic primary myelolipoma affecting the ribs. Case presentation: A 21-year-old white female patient presented with a complaint of burning chest pain over 3 months, with gradual worsening in intensity, accompanied by a progressively growing bulge in the right thoracic wall. The patient underwent thoracotomy of the fifth and sixth ribs with complete excision of the lesion with a safety margin. Thoracic wall reconstruction was performed using a polypropylene mesh. The patient had a good postoperative course and was discharged on postoperative day 3. Histopathological examination revealed a histological image consistent with myelolipoma. Background: Bizarre parosteal osteochondromatous proliferation (BPOP) is a rare benign bone tumor, it is also called "Nora's lesion". The lesion is characterized by heterotopic ossification of the normal bone cortex or parosteal bone. The etiology of BPOP is unclear and may be related to trauma. In most BPOPs, the lesion is not connected to the medullary cavity. Here we report an atypical case, characterized by reversed features compared to the typical BPOP, which demonstrated continuity of the lesion with the cavity. Case presentation: An 11-year-old female child had a slow-growing mass on her right wrist for 8 months with forearm rotation dysfunction. Plain X-rays showed an irregular calcified mass on the right distal ulna, and computed tomography (CT) showed a pedunculated mass resembling a mushroom protruding into the soft tissue at the distal ulna. The medulla of this lesion is continuous with the medulla of the ulna. A surgical resection of the lesion, together with a portion of the ulnar bone cortex below the tumor was performed, and the final pathology confirmed BPOP. After the surgery, the child's forearm rotation function improved significantly, and there was no sign of a recurrence at 1-year follow-up. Conclusion: It is scarce for BPOP lesions to communicate with the medullary cavity. However, under-recognition of these rare cases may result in misdiagnosis or inappropriate treatment thereby increasing the risk of recurrence. Therefore, special cases where BPOP lesions are continuous with the medulla are even more important to be studied to understand better and master these lesions. Although BPOP is a benign tumor with no evidence of malignant transformation, the recurrence rate of surgical resection is high. We considered the possibility of this particular disease prior to surgery and performed a surgical resection with adequate safety margins. Background: Ganglioneuromatosis is a rare type of benign neurogenic tumor that usually affects the sites of the major sympathetic ganglia in the retroperitoneum and the posterior mediastinum. Affection of the gastrointestinal tract is rare, and involvement of the esophagus is exceptional. To the best of our knowledge, only 4 cases of esophageal ganglioneuromatosis in adults were reported in the literature. No cases have been reported in the pediatric age group. Case presentation: An 11-year-old boy presented with dysphagia due to severe esophageal stenosis caused by esophageal ganglioneuromatosis. Background: Pilomatricoma (PM) is a cutaneous benign neoplasm derived from the hair matrix. It clinically presents as a solitary and firm nodule overlying normal epidermis and is usually not easy to be noticed at early stage. Nevertheless, when special bullous lesion occurs in a short time or even ulcerates, preoperative diagnosis by a dermatologist is often challenging especially when the pediatric patients refuse biopsy. Case presentation: We present six bullous PM cases and particularly conduct correlation analysis on the dermotoscopy and histopathology detection data. The basic information, medical history, symptoms and lesion morphology results of the patients were also provided. We found that the incidence of bullous PM was higher in females than in males, and most patients were adolescents and the predilection location seem to be consistent in the vaccine injection site. The dermatoscopic features of bullous PM reported were luminous yellow structure below, with gray-blue homogeneous areas and branched capillary. The histological features were consistent with PM, and evident epidermis bullae were above the tumor with extraordinary dilation of lymphangion in the upper dermis. The patients described in this study were Chinese patients in Han population included 4 females and 2 males, coincidentally, they are almost teen-age, respectively are 5,11,17,19,21,22 year-old. Conclusions: This study reported and analyzed the dermotoscopy and clinical characteristics of bullous PM, dermotoscopy may guide as a rapid and reliable technique in bullous PM diagnosis. A novel histomolecular tumor of the central nervous system (CNS), the "diffuse glioneuronal tumor with oligodendroglioma-like features and nuclear clusters (DGONC)," has recently been identified, based on a distinct DNA methylation profile and has been added to the 2021 World Health Organization Classification of CNS Tumors. This glioneuronal tumor mainly affects the supratentorial area in children and recurrently presents with a monosomy of chromosome 14. Herein, we report the case of a DNA-methylation based diagnosis of DGONC having atypical features, such as pseudo-rosettes and the absence of a chromosome 14 monosomy, thus rendering its diagnosis very challenging. Because of the wide variety of morphologies harbored by DGONC, a large range of differential diagnoses may be hypothesized from benign to malignant. Interestingly, the current case, like one previously reported, exhibited a co-expression of OLIG2, synaptophysin and SOX10, without GFAP immunopositivity. This particular immunophenotype seems to be a good indicator for a DGONC diagnosis. The classification of DGONC amongst glioneuronal or embryonal tumors is still debated. The clinical (a pediatric supratentorial tumor), morphological (from a benign oligodendroglioma-like tumor with microcalcifications and possible neuropil-like islands to a malignant embryonal tumor with a possible spongioblastic pattern), and immunohistochemical (co-expression of OLIG2 and synaptophsyin) profiles resemble CNS, neuroblastoma, FOXR2-activated and may potentially bring them together in a future classification. The development of breast cancer has been mainly reported in women who have reached the post-menopausal stage; therefore, it is the primary factor responsible for death amongst postmenopausal women. However, if treated on time it has shown a survival rate of 20 years in about two-thirds of women. Cases of breast cancer have also been reported in younger women and the leading cause in them is their lifestyle pattern or they may be carriers of high penetrance mutated genes. Premenopausal women who have breast cancer have been diagnosed with aggressive build-up of tumors and are therefore at more risk of loss of life. Mammography is an effective way to test for breast cancer in women after menopause but is not so effective for premenopausal women or younger females. Imaging techniques like contrast-enhanced MRI can up to some extent indicate the presence of a tumor but it cannot adequately differentiate between benign and malignant tumors. Although the 'omics' strategies continuing for the last 20 years have been helpful at the molecular level in enabling the characteristics and proper understanding of such tumors over long-term longitudinal monitoring. Classification, diagnosis, and prediction of the outcomes have been made through tissue and serum biomarkers but these also fail to diagnose the disease at an early stage. Considerably there is no adequate detection technique present globally that can help early detection and provide adequate specificity, safety, sensitivity, and convenience for the younger and premenopausal women, thereby it becomes necessary to take early measures and build efficient tools and techniques for the same. Through biopsies of nipple aspirate fluid (NAF) biomarker profiling can be performed. It is a naturally secreted fluid from the cells of epithelium found in the breast. Nowadays, home-based liquid biopsy collection kits are also available through which a routine check on breast health can be performed with the help of NAF. Herein, we will review the biomarker screening liquid biopsy, and the new emerging technologies for the examination of cancer at an early stage, especially in premenopausal women. Background: Mature cystic teratomas (MCT) of the ovary are benign ovarian germ cell neoplasms. Malignant transformation is possible but rare and ovarian carcinoid tumors in MCT are among the most extremely rare subtypes. Case presentation: We report a case of a 60-year-old Iranian woman suffering from postmenopausal bleeding and hypogastric pain for the last 40 days. An adnexal mass was detected during the physical examination. Ultrasound imaging showed a (55 × 58) mm mass in the left ovary. Total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingooophorectomy and comprehensive staging surgery were performed for the patient. Intraoperative frozen section of the left ovarian mass was indicative of a malignant tumor. She was diagnosed with a carcinoid tumor with benign mucinous cystadenoma arising on MCT of the ovary, confirmed in the histopathology and immunohistochemistry examination. The tumor was classified as low grade and no chemotherapy cycles were considered. The patient was followed up long-term and no recurrence was observed during 14 months of examinations. Conclusion: Ovarian carcinoids arising from MCT are rare neuroendocrine neoplasms, and proper diagnosis of these tumors requires careful histopathology evaluation and appropriate examination. Objective: Pulmonary papillary adenoma is an extremely rare benign tumor. It is derived from type II lung cells and club cells, suggesting that it may originate from stem cells with two-way differentiation. Only one case has been reported with FGFR2-IIIb overexpression. Methods: Two cases of pulmonary papillary adenoma with available data on clinical features, histological morphology, immunophenotype and molecular characteristics were analyzed. Results: Both tumors were well-circumscribed unencapsulated nodules composed of papillary structures with fibrovascular cores lined by a single layer of cuboidal or columnar epithelium without necrosis, nuclear atypia and mitoses, or invasion. But malignant transformation features include complex branching structures and significantly enlarged, irregular, and crowded malignant cells in one case. Immunohistochemistry showed that the tumor cells were strongly positive for TTF1, NapsinA, EMA and CK7 and negative for CEA and P63, with a low Ki-67 proliferation index. The EGFR somatic mutation exon19:c.2236_2256delinsATC (p.E746_S752delinsI) was found in one case by next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology. Conclusion: Pulmonary papillary adenoma is very rare. Virtually all papillary adenomas are clinically silent and discovered incidentally. They are benign tumors, and resection is curative. An EGFR 19 exon deletion mutation in a patient with this tumor type was detected for the first time by NGS, and our results suggest that the malignant transformation of pulmonary papillary adenoma may be mediated by EGFR mutation. Background: Cardiac hemangiomas are very uncommon benign primary tumors. They are usually located preferentially in the right atrium and their location in the interatrial septum is extremely rare. Case presentation: We report the case of a 41-year-old patient who was admitted due to a stroke. The transthoracic echocardiogram revealed a large mass in the right atrium adhered to the interatrial septum. Suspecting an atrial myxoma, surgical intervention was performed confirming that the mass extended within the thickness of the interatrial septum, protruding into the right atrial cavity. The histologic report confirmed a hemangioma. Conclusions: Cardiac hemangiomas are rare primary tumors and are usually misdiagnosed as other cardiac tumors. Background: The high mobility group A2 (HMGA2) gene is expressed extensively during early embryonic development but is inactivated in adulthood, and it is also reactivated in various benign and malignant tumors, including breast cancer. We first assessed the potential functional significance of the unstudied deletion polymorphism rs10573247 at the 3′UTR of HMGA2 on miRNA binding using bioinformatic tools, and subsequently, the association between this polymorphism and breast cancer susceptibility was investigated. Materials and methods: We applied the RNAhybrid tool to predict the functional effects of polymorphism rs10573247 located within the 3' UTR of the HMGA2 gene on miRNA binding. Then, following DNA extraction, 141 breast cancer patients and 123 healthy controls were genotyped for polymorphism rs10573247 using RFLP-PCR with the restriction enzyme Eam1104I. Results: Our bioinformatic data have shown that polymorphism rs10573247 is located in the region that serves as a potential target site for eight miRNAs binding. Among them, miR-3125 exhibited decreased binding affinity for the allele delTT (MFE = -21.8) when compared to the allele TT (MFE = -23.9), but miR-4476 increased binding affinity for the allele delTT (MFE = -22.4) compared to the allele TT (MFE = -22.2). In addition, our results showed that the genotype TT/delTT (p = 0.005) and the genotype delTT/delTT (p = 0.029) were significantly associated with an increased risk of developing breast cancer compared to the genotype TT/TT using RFLP-PCR. Discussion and Conclusion: Our findings suggest that polymorphism rs10573247 may contribute to the risk of breast cancer through the functional effect of this polymorphism on miRNA binding. Purpose: To evaluate the perioperative clinical outcomes of en bloc resection and anterior column reconstruction for thoracolumbar spinal tumors. Methods: This study conducted a retrospective analysis of prospective data collection of 86 consecutive patients, including 40 males and 46 females, with an average age of 39 years (ranged from 10 to 71 years). There were 35 cases of a malignant primary tumor,42 cases of an aggressive benign tumor, and nine cases of metastases. The main lesions were located in 65 cases of thoracic spine, 17 cases of lumbar spine, and 4 cases of thoracolumbar spine. Tumors involved one level in 45 patients, two levels in 12 patients, three levels in 21 patients, four levels in five patients, five levels in two patients, and six levels in one patient. Results: According to the Weinstein-Boriani-Biagini surgical staging system, all patients achieved en bloc resections, including 74 cases of total en bloc spondylectomy and 12 cases of sagittal resections. The mean surgical time was 559 min (210–1208 min), and the mean total blood loss was 1528 ml (260–5500 ml). A total of 122 complications were observed in 62(72.1%) patients, of which 18(20.9%) patients had 25 major complications and one patient (1.2%) died of complications. The combined approach (P = 0.002), total blood loss (P = 0.003), staged surgery (P = 0.004), previous surgical history (P = 0.045), the number of involved vertebrae (P = 0.021) and lumbar location (P = 0.012) were statistically significant risk factors for major complication. When all above risk factors were incorporated in multivariate analysis, only the combined approach (P = 0.052) still remained significant. Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs), one of the major contents of exosomes, have been shown to participate in the occurrence and progression of cancers. The role and the diagnostic potential of exosome-transported circRNAs in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain largely unknown. Methods: The NSCLC-associated exosomal circ_0061407 and circ_0008103 were screened by circRNA microarray. The role of circ_0061407 and circ_0008103 in NSCLC was examined in vitro and in vivo. The encapsulation of the two circRNAs into exosomes and the transport to recipient cells were observed by confocal microscopy. The effects of exosome-transported circ_0061407 and circ_0008103 on recipient cells were investigated using a co-culture device. Bioinformatics analyses were performed to predict the mechanisms by which circ_0061407 and circ_0008103 affected NSCLC. The quantitative polymerase chain reaction was used to quantify the exosome-containing circ_0061407 and circ_0008103 in the serum samples of healthy, pneumonia, benign lung tumours, and NSCLC. The diagnostic efficacy was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic curves. Results: The levels of circ_0061407 and circ_0008103 within exosomes were down-regulated in the serum of patients with NSCLC. The up-regulation of circ_0061407 and circ_0008103 inhibited the proliferation, migration/invasion, cloning formation of NSCLC cells in vitro and inhibited lung tumour growth in vivo. Circ_0061407 and circ_0008103 were observed to be packaged in exosomes and transported to recipient cells, where they inhibited the proliferation, migration/invasion, and cloning formation abilities of the recipient cells. Moreover, circ_0061407 and circ_0008103 might be involved in the progression of NSCLC by interacting with microRNAs and proteins. Additionally, lower serum exosomal circ_0061407 and circ_0008103 levels were associated with advanced pathological staging and distant metastasis. Conclusions: This study identified two novel exosome-transported circRNAs (circ_0061407 and circ_0008103) associated with NSCLC. Background: Basal cell adenoma (BCA) is a rare benign tumor within the salivary glands. Basal cell adenocarcinoma (BCAC), the malignant counterpart of BCA, is also an exceedingly rare tumor with very limited clinical studies conducted. This study aims to investigate the clinical characteristics, demographics, and surgical outcomes of patients diagnosed with BCA and BCAC within the parotid gland. Methods: A retrospective analysis from May 2003 to August 2023 was performed for all patients undergoing parotidectomy for masses. Retrospective data on gender, age, tumor characteristics, and outcomes were collected. Surgical approaches, including negative margin attainment, capsule removal, and histological diagnosis, were also detailed. Results: The study included 1268 patients who underwent parotidectomy, resulting in 81 cases of BCA and 7 cases of BCAC. BCA patients, with a mean age of 55.1 years, showed diverse age distribution and predominantly presented in the 50s. In BCAC cases, seven female patients exhibited a predominant location in the deep lobes. FNA revealed BCAC in three out of seven cases, and subsequent parotidectomy was performed, resulting in no observed recurrences or metastases. Conclusion: This study reports the largest number of BCA cases from a single institution and provides comprehensive insights into the demographics, tumor characteristics, and clinical outcomes of both BCA and BCAC. Although further research should be conducted, based on clinical follow-up results, appropriately including the capsule in the tumor excision indicates favorable outcomes, especially when the tumor size is not large. Introduction: Paratesticular cellular angiofibroma is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor. The optimal management is surgical resection due to the difficulty of preoperative accurate diagnosis. Case presentation: A 51-year-old Japanese male visited our hospital complaining of asymptomatic left scrotal swelling. Physical examination revealed a nontender elastic paratesticular mass (5.5 cm in diameter). Although testicular germ cell tumor was ruled out clinically, the possibility of malignant potential remained for the tumor. Since the patient consented to complete resection, a transinguinal radical orchiectomy was performed. The pathological diagnosis revealed cellular angiofibroma. The patient recovered without perioperative complications, and no apparent recurrence was observed at 5 years after surgery. Conclusion: The pathological findings were compatible for cellular angiofibroma. The tumor was successfully resected, and no apparent recurrence was observed at 5 years after surgery. Background: Adamantinomatous craniopharyngiomas (ACPs) are rare benign epithelial tumours with high recurrence and poor prognosis. Biological differences between recurrent and primary ACPs that may be associated with disease recurrence and treatment have yet to be evaluated at the proteomic level. In this study, we aimed to determine the proteomic profiles of paired recurrent and primary ACP, gain biological insight into ACP recurrence, and identify potential targets for ACP treatment. Method: Patients with ACP (n = 15) or Rathke's cleft cyst (RCC; n = 7) who underwent surgery at Sanbo Brain Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China and received pathological confirmation of ACP or RCC were enrolled in this study. We conducted a proteomic analysis to investigate the characteristics of primary ACP, paired recurrent ACP, and RCC. Western blotting was used to validate our proteomic results and assess the expression of key tumour-associated proteins in recurrent and primary ACPs. Flow cytometry was performed to evaluate the exhaustion of tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in primary and recurrent ACP tissue samples. Immunohistochemical staining for CD3 and PD-L1 was conducted to determine differences in T-cell infiltration and the expression of immunosuppressive molecules between paired primary and recurrent ACP samples. Results: The bioinformatics analysis showed that proteins differentially expressed between recurrent and primary ACPs were significantly associated with extracellular matrix organisation and interleukin signalling. Cathepsin K, which was upregulated in recurrent ACP compared with that in primary ACP, may play a role in ACP recurrence. High infiltration of T cells and exhaustion of TILs were revealed by the flow cytometry analysis of ACP. Conclusions: This study provides a preliminary description of the proteomic differences between primary ACP, recurrent ACP, and RCC. Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical features and treatment options for pediatric adrenal incidentalomas(AIs) to guide the diagnosis and treatment of these tumors. Methods: The clinical data of AI patients admitted to our hospital between December 2016 and December 2022 were collected and retrospectively analyzed. All patients were divided into neonatal and nonneonatal groups according to their age at the time of the initial consultation. Results: In the neonatal group, 13 patients were observed and followed up, and the masses completely disappeared in 8 patients and were significantly reduced in size in 5 patients compared with the previous findings. Four patients ultimately underwent surgery, and the postoperative pathological diagnosis was neuroblastoma in three patients and teratoma in one patient. In the nonneonatal group, there were 18 cases of benign tumors, including 9 cases of ganglioneuroma, 2 cases of adrenocortical adenoma, 2 cases of adrenal cyst, 2 cases of teratoma, 1 case of pheochromocytoma, 1 case of nerve sheath tumor, and 1 case of adrenal hemorrhage; and 20 cases of malignant tumors, including 10 cases of neuroblastoma, 9 cases of ganglioneuroblastoma, and 1 case of adrenocortical carcinoma. Conclusions: Neuroblastoma is the most common type of nonneonatal AI, and detailed laboratory investigations and imaging studies are recommended for aggressive evaluation and treatment in this population. The rate of spontaneous regression of AI is high in neonates, and close observation is feasible if the tumor is small, confined to the adrenal gland and has no distant metastasis. Objectives: To evaluate the diagnostic value of plasma exosomal miR-223 and its combination with CA125 for the diagnosis of early-stage epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). Patients and methods: Exosomes derived from the plasma of 78 EOC patients, 40 patients with epithelial benign ovarian tumors, and 52 healthy participants were isolated using the ultracentrifugation method and identified by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and western blot. Results: The expression of exosomal miR-223 was significantly upregulated in the plasma of EOC patients compared to that in healthy subjects and patients with benign diseases. The combination of exosomal miR-223 and CA125 from plasma had an equivalent area under the ROC curve (AUC) to CA125 alone for discriminating between EOC and non-EOC cases, including healthy subjects and benign ovarian tumors. However, the AUC value of the combination was 0.944 (95% CI: 0.899–0.990) for differentially diagnosing early-stage EOC from healthy subjects, slightly higher than that of CA125 alone (0.928, 95% CI: 0.875–0.981), with a sensitivity and specificity of 0.9784 and 0.885, respectively. Conclusion: Our data suggest that plasma exosomal miR-223 can be used as a complement to CA125 to increase the diagnostic power for differentiating early-stage EOC from healthy subjects. Background: The accurate detection of eyelid tumors is essential for effective treatment, but it can be challenging due to small and unevenly distributed lesions surrounded by irrelevant noise. Moreover, early symptoms of eyelid tumors are atypical, and some categories of eyelid tumors exhibit similar color and texture features, making it difficult to distinguish between benign and malignant eyelid tumors, particularly for ophthalmologists with limited clinical experience. Methods: We propose a hybrid model, HM_ADET, for automatic detection of eyelid tumors, including YOLOv7_CNFG to locate eyelid tumors and vision transformer (ViT) to classify benign and malignant eyelid tumors. First, the ConvNeXt module with an inverted bottleneck layer in the backbone of YOLOv7_CNFG is employed to prevent information loss of small eyelid tumors. Then, the flexible rectified linear unit (FReLU) is applied to capture multi-scale features such as texture, edge, and shape, thereby improving the localization accuracy of eyelid tumors. In addition, considering the geometric center and area difference between the predicted box (PB) and the ground truth box (GT), the GIoU_loss was utilized to handle cases of eyelid tumors with varying shapes and irregular boundaries. Finally, the multi-head attention (MHA) module is applied in ViT to extract discriminative features of eyelid tumors for benign and malignant classification. Results: Experimental results demonstrate that the HM_ADET model achieves excellent performance in the detection of eyelid tumors. In specific, YOLOv7_CNFG outperforms YOLOv7, with AP increasing from 0.763 to 0.893 on the internal test set and from 0.647 to 0.765 on the external test set. ViT achieves AUCs of 0.945 (95% CI 0.894-0.981) and 0.915 (95% CI 0.860-0.955) for the classification of benign and malignant tumors on the internal and external test sets, respectively. Conclusions: Our study provides a promising strategy for the automatic diagnosis of eyelid tumors, which could potentially improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. Background: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is one of the most common RASopathies predisposing affected patients to melanic lesions and benign tumors. NF1 is associated with considerable esthetic and functional burden negatively affecting the patient's quality of life (QoL). This study aims to assess the clinical features of NF1 patients and evaluate their impact on QoL. We identified NF1 patients from a public health database of a region in Spain. All patients underwent clinical and ophthalmological evaluation for NF1 features. We measured QoL using the Spanish version of the Skindex-29. Results: Forty patients fulfilled the NF1 National Institute of Health criteria when we recruited patients. The median age was 42.00 years (IQR 26.5 -53.75). The median total Skindex-29 score was 12.3 (IQR 5.9–22.4); (emotion: 15.0, IQR 5.0-37.5; symptoms 8.9, IQR 0.0-17.9 and functioning 8.3; IQR 0.5–18.3). Women and NF1 patients with lower educational levels were associated with poorer QoL scores. We identified itching and sleep troubles to influence NF1 patients' QoL negatively. Conclusion: NF1 considerably influences the psychological well-being of NF1 patients. We observed that female and low-educated patients scored higher on the emotional dimension of the Skindex-29 and could, therefore, be more at risk of depression. Background: Relevant reports on the surgical resection and prognosis of recurrent presacral tumors are limited. The objective of this study was to explore the outcomes associated with surgical resection of recurrent presacral tumors. Methods: The data of patients with recurrent presacral tumors who received surgical resection in our hospital between June 2009 and November 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Results: Thirty-one patients, comprising 22 females and 9 males, with recurrent presacral lesions were included in our study. A posterior approach was utilized in 27 patients, an anterior approach in 1 patient, and a combined approach in 3 patients. Intraoperative complications occurred in 13 patients (41.9%), while postoperative complications occurred in 6 patients (19.4%). The length of hospital stay was significantly shorter in patients who underwent the posterior approach compared to those who underwent the anterior and combined approaches (P = 0.002). The operative time for the posterior approach was significantly shorter compared to both the anterior and combined approaches (P = 0.006). Temporary tamponade was performed for hemostasis in 4 patients, while staged resection was performed in 2 patients during the surgical treatment process. After a median follow-up period of 115.5 months, 5 patients with recurrent malignant presacral tumors succumbed to tumor recurrence after reoperation in our hospital. Conclusions: Surgical resection remains the mainstream treatment for recurrent presacral tumors. The outcomes for recurrent benign presacral tumors after surgery demonstrate favorable results, whereas further enhancements are required to improve the outcomes for recurrent malignant presacral tumors after surgery.
