Aim: To construct evidence-based sensitive quality indicators for patients' rapid rehabilitation care after combined pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) and to provide a reference for clinical nursing professionals to scientifically evaluate the quality of patients' rehabilitation post-PD. Background: Since PD is associated with higher surgical risk and anastomotic complications, it leads to higher complication rates and longer postoperative recovery cycles. This reiterates the need for rapid recovery of patients after PD; however, the evaluation of sensitive nursing care indicators regarding rapid recovery post-PD has not yet been established to date. Methods: Based on the Donabedian structure-process-result theory model, we used available literature, semi-structured interviews, the Delphi method, and hierarchical analysis to establish a sensitive indicator system for patients' rapid rehabilitation after PD and evaluate the importance of such indicators. Results: There were two rounds of expert correspondence, and the effective recovery rate of the questionnaires of these rounds was 100%. The expert authority coefficients, as well as the Kendall coordination coefficients of the expert opinions, were 0.859 and 0.872 as well as 0.423 and 0.431, with statistically significant differences (p < 0.05), respectively. Consequently, we developed a sensitive quality index system for patients' rapid rehabilitation care after combined PD, including 3 first-level, 12 s-level, and 23 third-level indexes, respectively. Conclusion: The constructed sensitive quality index system developed for patients' rapid rehabilitation nursing care after combined PD is standardized, practical, and aligned with the specialty characteristics. Furthermore, this might help greatly in improving the quality and safety of patients' rapid rehabilitation nursing care after combined PD, standardizing nursing management skills, and enhancing nursing quality. Background: Work-family enrichment refers to the extent to which experiences in one role improve the quality of life in another role, and the bidirectionality indicates that benefits derived from work can be applied to family and vice versa. Parent nurses, that is, female nurses who are raising preschool children, play a major role at work and in the family. Thus, work-family enrichment is significant for them. The Work-Family Enrichment Scale cannot be generalized to parent nurses. This study was aimed at developing and psychometrically validating a draft Work-Family Enrichment Scale for Parent Nurses. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among 1,090 parent nurses who were randomly sampled from hospitals with more than 200 beds in Japan. The survey evaluated (1) a draft Work-Family Enrichment Scale for Parent Nurses, (2) the Japanese version of the Work-Family Enrichment Scale, and (3) the Positive Spillover Scale. The scales were psychometrically evaluated for internal consistency, construct validity, and criterion-related validity. Results: Data from 503 participants (age, mean ± standard deviation [range] 35.5 ± 4.96 [23–47] years) were analyzed. Results of exploratory factor analysis, the work to family enrichment direction yielded five factors for 23 items: "emotional fulfillment," "efficiency," "ability to lead," "displaying industriousness," and "self-growth." Cronbach's alpha coefficients ranged from 0.862 to 0.914. In the family-to-work enrichment direction, there were five factors for 28 items: "help-seeking," "receptiveness," "expansion of one's horizon," "efficiency," and "emotional fulfillment." Cronbach's alpha coefficients ranged from 0.790 to 0.907. Additionally, the correlation coefficients reporting criterion-related validity were 0.685 and 0.619 with regard to the Japanese version of the Work-Family Enrichment Scale and 0.596 and 0.534 with the Positive Spillover Scale for the Work-to-Family Enrichment Scale and the Family-to-Work Enrichment Scale for Parent Nurses, respectively. Conclusions: The Work-Family Enrichment Scale for Parent Nurses has adequate reliability and validity and can be used as an effective measure to assess the positive aspects of work and family roles among female parent nurses. Background: Nurses' competence in clinical research is a key element in promoting high quality in the discipline of nursing, and the ethical aspects of research are of paramount importance. Therefore, nurses need to have a comprehensive understanding of the ethics associated with clinical research, which is an integral part of safeguarding the safety of subjects, ensuring the quality of nursing clinical research, and improving the ethical standardization of clinical research. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 304 nurses in a province of China between April 2023 and September 2023, utilizing convenience sampling. The survey questionnaire comprised two sections: a general information form and a questionnaire focusing on nurses' knowledge and attitudes towards clinical research ethics. Data analysis encompassed descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression. Results: A total of 320 questionnaires were distributed, of which 304 were valid. The ethical attitude of nurses in clinical research was better (91.17 ± 15.96), while the cognitive score was lower (63.08 ± 12.30). The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that degree, grade of hospital (I, II or III), technical title, number of clinical projects chaired in one year and whether the respondent has ever participated in an ethics training were the five factors influencing the knowledge of clinical research ethics (F = 9.341, P < 0.001, R2 = 18.0%); degree, grade of hospital (I, II or III), technical title, number of clinical research projects chaired in one year, whether the hospital has an ethics committee and whether the respondent has ever participated in an ethics training were the six factors affecting ethical attitudes towards clinical research (F = 8.919, P < 0.001, R2 = 17.3%). Conclusions: Nurses in a Chinese province scored low on the cognitive dimension of clinical research ethics, but their attitudes were at a relative high level, with many influencing factors. Degree, technical title, and grade of hospital, all affect cognitive and attitude scores. It is also worth noting that whether the hospital has an ethics committee affects the attitude scores, but has no effect on the cognitive scores.Nursing administrators and educators should consider providing effective and targeted strategies (e.g., ongoing training, scholarly seminars, and scholarly exchanges) to enhance nurses' knowledge and competence in clinical research ethics to protect subject rights as well as to ensure the quality of clinical research. Background: In China, Internet-Based Sharing Nursing Service (IBSNS) is a new mode of nursing service delivery that has been in practice for over five years, which enables nurses to provide care at clients' home. However, the acceptance and associated factors of IBSNS among caregivers of elderly with chronic diseases who are the major clients of the service were unclear. Aim: To explore the acceptance of IBSNS and its associated factors among Chinese caregivers of elderly patient with chronic diseases based on the modified Technology Acceptance Model (mTAM). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from February 2023 to March 2023. Caregivers of hospitalized elderly with chronic diseases were recruited using convenience sampling method from three hospitals in Beijing, China. Data were obtained from self-reports of participants. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze data. Results: A total of 65.1% of the caregivers had neutral to weakly positive behavioral intention of IBSNS use. The mTAM model was supported with good model fit. Perceived ease of use was positively associated with perceived usefulness. Both perceived usefulness and perceived security were positively associated with attitude, consequently, attitude was associated with behavioral intention. Conclusions: Improving the ease of use, security, and usefulness may be helpful to increase the positive attitude towards IBSNS and behavioral intention of using IBSNS, which provides valuable insights that can help healthcare providers improve the integration of technology in patient care, ultimately leading to better health outcomes and more efficient healthcare systems. Background: In recent years, there has been a significant decrease in the desire to have children among Chinese women of childbearing age, particularly for the first child. This trend has sparked a growing interest in understanding the underlying factors. Although perceived stress has been speculated as an important factor in decreasing fertility intention, the precise mechanism is unclear. The current study, therefore, aims to investigate the psychological mechanisms linking perceived stress to fertility intentions among women of childbearing age without children, a topic of significant relevance and importance. Methods: Data were sourced from Chinese residents' psychology and behavior investigation (PBICR-2022). A multistage random sampling method was applied to recruit eligible participants. The Mplus8.3 software constructed a chain path model among the variables. Results: The median fertility intention was 30(3–60) on a scale of 0 to 100. The mediation analysis revealed a significant negative influence of perceived stress on fertility intention (β = − 0.076, P < 0.001). Additionally, a more intricate pattern of chain-mediating effect was observed involving perceived stress, anxiety (β = 0.037, P < 0.05), family communication (β = 0.106, P < 0.001), subjective well-being (β = 0.088, P < 0.001) and fertility intention. Conclusions: Perceived stress not only directly suppressed fertility intention but also indirectly affected it through anxiety, family communication, and subjective well-being. Background: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) have an increased risk of vascular complications. Despite the rise in the prevalence of T2D and its complications throughout the globe, there is a paucity of data regarding the prevalence and determinants of vascular complications of T2D in Ethiopia. Hence, this study aimed to assess the prevalence, patterns, and determinants of the microvascular and macrovascular complications of T2D among adult patients attending a teaching hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methods: A retrospective study was done by reviewing the electronic health records of adult patients with T2D attending the general medical and endocrine referral clinics of Yekatit 12 Hospital Medical College, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from June 1, 2023, to November 30, 2023. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), version 25, was used to analyze the data. Descriptive analysis was used to summarize the sociodemographic, clinical, and laboratory profiles as well as the patterns of vascular complications of T2D. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression models were fitted, and the crude odds ratio (COR) and adjusted odds ratio (AOR), together with the 95% confidence interval (CI), were computed to identify the determinants of microvascular and macrovascular complications of T2D. Results: A total of 272 patients with T2D were included in this study; 50.5% were females, and the mean (± standard deviation) age was 56.3 ± 12.8 years. The majority of patients (62.5%) had diabetes for ≥ 5 years. More than half (51.5%) had poor glycemic control with glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) value of ≥ 7%. The overall prevalence of vascular complications was 39%. The prevalence of microvascular complications was 23.5%, the most common being neuropathy (11.8%), and the prevalence of macrovascular complications was 21%, the most common being coronary artery disease (12.1%). The determinants of microvascular complications were age ≥ 60 years (AOR = 2.25, 95% CI: 1.17, 4.33), diabetes duration of ≥ 5 years (5–10 years [AOR = 3.13, 95% CI: 1.37, 7.18], and > 10 years [AOR = 3.88, 95% CI: 1.66, 9.06], and HbA1c value of ≥ 7% (AOR = 2.21, 95% CI: 1.14, 4.28). The odds of developing macrovascular complications were higher with diabetes duration of ≥ 5 to 10 years (AOR = 2.89, 95% CI: 1.37, 6.12) as compared with diabetes duration of < 5 years. Conclusions: This study demonstrated a high prevalence of microvascular and macrovascular complications in adult patients with T2D. Older age, prolonged duration of diabetes, and poor glycemic control were identified as the determinants for the development of microvascular complications of T2D, while prolonged duration of diabetes was the determining factor for the development of macrovascular complications. Hence, targeted initiatives are required to enhance the prevention and early detection of vascular complications of T2D in resource-limited countries like Ethiopia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: In developing countries birth asphyxia is a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. Despite the implementation of various strategies and interventions to combat neonatal mortality rates, birth asphyxia remains the main public health concern in Ethiopia. Moreover, limited studies have been conducted, especially in the study area and there are no multicenter analyses available to generate evidence for action. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the burden and associated factors of birth asphyxia among newborns in the selected public hospitals of the Addis Ababa City Administration Health Bureau. Methods: Three hundred forty-three mother-child pairs who used delivery services and gave birth in the selected public hospitals were included in the study, and institution based cross sectional study design was employed. A systematic random sampling technique was used to select the study participants. A pretested, structured interviewer administered questionnaire was used to collect the data. The physician's/health care professionals diagnosis of an Apgar score less than 7 within the first five minutes of life led to the confirmation of the diagnosis of birth asphyxia. SPSS version 24 was used for analysis after the data were exported from Epi Info version 7.2. Multivariate logistic regression analysis included variables which had P-values less than 0.25 in the bivariable logistic regression analysis. The study findings were expressed using adjusted odds ratio with a 95% confidence interval, and P-value less than 0.05 was used to declare the statistical significance. Results: The magnitude of birth asphyxia was found to be 17.1% [95% CI; (13.2–21.5)] at the first 5 min. In the multivariable logistic regression analysis cord accident [AOR = 6.24: 95% CI; (1.24–31.32)], prolonged duration of labor [AOR = 2.49: 95% CI; (1.93–10.89)], and meconium-stained amniotic fluid [AOR = 3.33: 95% CI; (1.73–6.41)] were the predictors of birth asphyxia. Conclusions: The findings of this research indicate that birth asphyxia is a prevalent neonatal problem at the study area. Therefore, the Addis Ababa Health Bureau must prioritize integrated mitigation interventions targeting high-risk pregnancies to achieve national and international commitment to sustainable changes in newborn health. Background: Current prostate cancer treatments are associated with life-threatening side effects, prompting the search for effective and safer alternatives. Aspilia pluriseta Schweinf. ex Engl. has previously shown anticancer activity in lung and liver cancer cell lines. This study investigated its potential for prostate cancer. Methods: A crude extract of A. pluriseta root was prepared using dichloromethane/methanol (1:1 v/v) and partitioned into hexane, ethyl acetate, and water fractions. The MTT assay was used to assess the antiproliferative activity of the fractions. The active fractions were tested at 6.25–200 µg/ml on human prostate cancer DU-145 cells and non-cancerous Vero E6 cells. Qualitative phytochemical and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analyses were conducted to identify chemical compounds. Network pharmacology was employed to predict molecular targets and modes of action of the identified chemical compounds, with subsequent validation through molecular docking and real-time PCR. Results: Active extracts included crude dichloromethane/methanol, hexane, and ethyl acetate fractions, inhibiting DU-145 cell proliferation with IC50 values of 16.94, 20.06, and 24.14 µg/ml, respectively. Selectivity indices were determined to be 6.04 (crude), 3.62 (hexane), and 6.68 (ethyl acetate). Identified phytochemicals comprised phenols, terpenoids, flavonoids, tannins, sterols, and saponins. GC-MS analysis revealed seventy-nine (79) compounds, with seven (7) meeting ideal drug candidate parameters; their hub gene targets included MAPK3, MAPK1, IL6, TP53, ESR1, PTGS2, MMP9, MDM2, AR, and MAP2K1, implicating regulation of PI3K/Akt, MAPK, and p53 signaling pathways as potential modes of action. Core compounds such as 1-heneicosanol, lanosterol, andrographolide, and retinoic acid exhibited strong binding activities, particularly lanosterol with MAPK21 (-9.7 kcal/mol), ESR1 (-8.9 kcal/mol), and MAPK3 (-8.8 kcal/mol). Treatment with A. pluriseta downregulated AR expression and upregulated p53, while also downregulating CDK1 and BCL-2 and upregulating caspase-3. Conclusions: A. pluriseta extracts inhibited DU-145 cell growth without causing cellular toxicity, suggesting great potential for development as an anti-prostate cancer agent. Background: To verify the validity of diagnosing initial caries on occlusal surface of permanent posterior teeth by laser fluorescence instrument DIAGNOdent pen. Methods: Patients from School of Stomatology in Wuhan University were selected and their posterior teeth were examined using DIAGNOdent pen and the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS II) by an experienced dentist. After teeth extraction, histological criteria were used to determine the severity of the lesions. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, the area under the curve (AUC), and correlation of DIAGNOdent pen and ICDAS II were analyzed compared with histological criteria. Examiners' agreement was measured. Results: The sensitivity range was 0.440-1 while that of specificity was 0.750–0.994. The accuracy and AUC were above 80% and 0.7 respectively. Consistency of examiners' kappa values of ICDAS II, DIAGNOdent pen, and histological criteria were ranged from 0.629 to 0.840. Conclusions: ICDAS II and DIAGNOdent pen can be effectively used in tandem or independently for the assessment of initial caries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: To verify the influence of macrogeometry with healing chambers on the osseointegration of dental implants by analyzing implant stability quotient (ISQ) and evaluate the correlation between insertion torque and ISQ insertion with different macrogeometries. Methods: In total, 26 implants were installed in the posterior mandible of eight patients with sufficient bone height for the installation of implants measuring 3.5 mm in diameter and 9.0 mm in length. The implants were categorized according to two types of macrogeometry: a test group (GT) with 13 conical implants with healing chambers and a control group (GC) with 13 conical implants with conventional threads. To insert the implants, a bone drilling protocol was used up to a diameter of 3 mm with the last helical bur. The insertion torque of the implants was evaluated, followed by the measurement of ISQ at 0 (T-0), 7 (T-7), 14 (T-14), 21 (T-21), 28 (T-28), and 42 (T-42) days. Results: The mean insertion torque was 43 Ncm in both groups, without a significant difference. Moreover, no significant difference in the ISQ values was found between the groups at different time points (p > 0.05), except at T-7 (GT = 69.87±1.89 and GC = 66.48±4.49; p = 0.01). Although there was no significant difference, ISQ median values were higher in the GT group than GC group at 28 days (GT = 67.98 and GC = 63.46; p = 0.05) and 42 days (GT = 66.12 and GC = 60.33; p = 0.09). No correlation was found between the insertion torque and ISQ insertion (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Furthermore, implants with a 3.5 mm diameter macrogeometry, with or without healing chambers, inserted with a drilling protocol up to 3 mm in diameter of the last helical bur, led to a similar secondary stability, with no difference in ISQ values. Although, implants with healing chamber demonstrates ascending values in the graph of ISQ, having a trend of faster osseointegration than implants without healing chambers. Both macrogeometries provide a similar primary stability to implants. Background: The mandibular retromolar space (RMS) has not been extensively studied in relation to various sagittal skeletal classes and patterns of third-molar eruption. The objective of this study was to test the null hypothesis that there is no difference in the mandibular RMS among normodivergent subjects with different skeletal classes and patterns of mandibular third-molar eruption, using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Method: A total of 105 normodivergent patients (20–40 years) were included in this study. Participants were categorized into Class I, II and III groups based on ANB and further impacted and erupted groups based on the eruption patterns of the mandibular third molars. Measurements of the mandibular RMS were taken at four planes parallel to the occlusal plane, along the cusp line. Comparative analyses were conducted among the three sagittal groups and between the impacted and erupted groups. Results: The Class II group exhibited a statistically smaller RMS (P < 0.05). RMS was found to be larger in third-molar erupted group (P < 0.05). The rates of root contact and third-molar impaction was significantly higher in Class II group. (P < 0.05) Conclusions: The null hypothesis was rejected. Patients with Skeletal Class II tend to have a smaller mandibular RMS and a higher prevalence of root contact and third-molar impaction. Introduction: Orthodontic clear aligners and retainers have numerous advantages that is making them ever increasingly popular. However, they might, similar to any other oral appliance, contribute to biofilm formation and finally dental caries or white spot lesions or gingival inflammations. The literature on biofilm formation on orthodontic clear appliances is very scarce and limited to a few microorganisms and materials. Therefore, this experimental study evaluated the biofilm formation on 5 thermoformed and 3D printed CAD/CAM orthodontic retainers in 3 intervals. Methods: In this in vitro study, 345 specimens (270 test discs and 45 negative controls) were created from fabricated retainers. Retainers included a 3D printed CAD/CAM material (Detax) and four thermoformed retainers [Erkodent (polyethylene terephthalate glycol [PETG]); EasyVac (polyethylene); DB (polyester based on terephthalic acid); and Clear Tech]. They were all 1 mm thick, and all completely fabricated, i.e., heated or printed. The discs were placed in 96-well plates. Microorganisms were cultured on 270 discs for 24 h (90 discs), 72 h (90 other discs), and 5 days or 120 h (90 other discs). Biofilm formation of the strains and negative controls was measured using the microtiter plate assay by ELISA reading. The microbes' ability to produce biofilm was categorized based on the comparison of average optical density (OD) of tests versus a cut-off point OD (ODc) calculated as the average of the OD of corresponding negative controls plus 3× its standard deviation: non-biofilm former [OD ≤ ODc], weak biofilm former [ODc < OD ≤ (2 × ODc)], moderate biofilm former [(2 × ODc) < OD ≤ (4 × ODc)], and strong biofilm former [(4 × ODc) < OD]. These were also converted to ranked scores between zero (no biofilm) and 3. The difference between ODs with control ODs were calculated. These were analyzed using 3-way ANOVA, 2-way ANOVA, and Tukey tests (α = 0.05, α = 0.008). Results: The 3-way ANOVA showed that the overall difference among the ΔODs of 5 retainers (all microorganisms and all intervals combined, n = 270) was not significant (F = 1.860, P = 0.119). Nevertheless, the difference among 3 intervals (F = 31.607, P = 0.0000) and the difference among the 6 microorganisms (F = 24.044, P = 0.0000) were significant. According to the Tukey test, the differences between the 1st interval with either of the other two intervals was significant (both P values = 0.000). There were significant differences between Candida albicans with all other organisms (all 5 P values = 0.0000). All other pairwise comparisons were insignificant (all 10 P values ≥ 0.1). After taking the averages of the 3 intervals, the order of the biofilm generation for different materials were as follows: Detax (average score: 1.56), Easyvac (1.67), Erkodent (1.78), Clear Tech (1.83), BD (2.28). Conclusions: As far as these 6 microorganisms are of concern, there might not be a significant overall difference among the clear retainer materials tested in this study. A significant overall increase was observed between the first and third days, which later did not significantly increase more until day 5. Background: Primary health-care workers (PHWs) managed increased workloads and pressure during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study conducted a national survey examining burnout among PHWs at the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, and identifies related factors. By doing so, it addresses the gap in understanding the burnout situation among PHWs at a national level, taking into account urban-rural disparities. Methods: We conducted a nationwide cross-sectional survey of PHWs in China from May to October 2022, covering 31 provinces. The MBI-HSS was used to measure overall burnout and emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP), and reduced personal accomplishment (PA). We used multivariable logistic regression to identify risk factors, and subgroup analyses to identify differences between rural and urban areas. Results: 3769 PHWs from 44 primary health-care institutions completed the survey. Overall, 16.6% reported overall burnout, and the prevalence of EE, DP, and reduced PA was 29.7%, 28.0%, and 62.9%, respectively. The prevalence of overall burnout (17.6% vs. 13.7%, P = 0.004) and EE (31.5% vs. 24.8%, P < 0.001) was higher in urban than rural areas (AOR = 1.285; 95%CI, 1.021–1.617). Job satisfaction was a protective factor against burnout in both settings. The protective factors of overall burnout, EE and DP vary between urban and rural areas. Conclusions: The Mental Health Status Questionnaire-Short Form (MSQ-SF) score functioned as a protective factor against burnout across both rural and urban locales, highlighting the intrinsic link between job satisfaction and burnout. Other influencing factors differed between urban and rural areas, so interventions should be tailored to local conditions. Rural married PHWs experienced the lower prevalence of burnout indicates the support structure may play a significant role. Background: In 2019, the world faced a pandemic brought about by a severe acute respiratory infection caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus. The spread of this virus has profoundly affected societies, particularly in terms of their economic, human and social dimensions, as well as their healthcare systems. Several restrictive measures (reduced social interaction, periodic school closures,...) had to be taken to contain the spread of the virus. These measures have had an impact on the psychological well-being of both adults and children. The aim of this study was to assess the changes in psychotropic drugs prescriptions for children and adolescents living in Limousin, a French region, over the period 2018 to 2021. Methods: The consumption of psychotropic drugs was studied using a national database of drug reimbursement. These data were extracted and supplied from the nationwide French reimbursement healthcare system database (SNDS). The following therapeutic classes were studied: N05A (antipsychotics), N05B (anxiolytics), N05C (hypnotics and sedatives), N06A (antidepressants) and N06B (psychostimulants). Data were collected for insured persons under the age of 18 who received at least one reimbursement for a psychotropic drug between 2018 and 2021. Results: Over a 4-year period, 7949 patients under the age of 18 were included with an average age of 12.1 years and a sex ratio of 0.97 M/F. The number of patients increased from 2018 to 2021, as did the number of reimbursements. We observed a statistically significant difference of means of patients reimbursed per week for on five therapeutic classes, with the greatest difference in 2021 (p < 0.0001). An increase in the number of patients of between + 20.7% and + 689% was observed, depending on the drug classes studied. Comparisons between the COVID-19 and pre-COVID-19 periods showed a significantly higher COVID average for psychotropic drugs reimbursements in general and individually for all classes except psychostimulants. Conclusion: The results show a significant increase in the consumption of psychotropic drugs among youth. The increase in psychotropic drug use was continuous and progressive throughout the pandemic. All five classes were increased, but particularly anxiolytics and antidepressants. The COVID-19 context may have been at the origin of a deterioration in the mental health of children and adolescents, or of a heightened awareness of psychiatric care among young people. Background: The effect of an immune-boosting beverage (SAM) containing Sambucus Nigra, an energy beverage (ENE), an in-office bleaching (BLE) agent with 25% hydrogen peroxide superior, glazing (GLA) or polishing (POL) methods, and professional dental prophylaxis (PDP) on the color of CAD-CAM restorative materials is unknown. Methods: In total 210 specimens were prepared, consisting of CAD-CAM feldspathic (FC), zirconia-reinforced lithium disilicate ceramic (ZLS) and hybrid ceramic (HC). The ceramic specimens were divided according to the polishing methods of glazing (GLA) and mechanical polishing (POL). All materials were divided into two groups: with and without BLE. A 25% hydrogen peroxide superior (HPS) gel was used for BLE. After the baseline (BAS) measurement, the specimens were immersed in 3 different beverages (distilled water (DIS), SAM, ENE). After 28 days, a fine-grained (RDA 7) prophylaxis paste was applied. Statistical analysis of ∆E00 color difference values was performed by 3-way ANOVA and Bonferroni test (α = 0.05). Results: The effect of all other actions except material-BLE-beverage on color for BAS-Day 28 was statistically different (p < 0.05). The effect of material, material-BLE, beverage on color for Day 28-PDP was statistically different (p < 0.05). After 28 days, the lowest color change was found in FC-GLA and HC immersed in DIS (p = 0.0001) and the highest in FC-POL immersed in ENE (p = 0.0002). PDP was efficient in color recovery in HC immersed to DIS, ENE and SAM (p = 0.0010). For FC, HC and ZLS, BLE caused a higher color change (p < 0.0001). Regardless of the material, the highest color change for BLE-beverage was found in BLE-treated specimens immersed in ENE (p = 0.0496) and the lowest color change was found in non-BLE-treated specimens immersed in SAM (p = 0.0074). Conclusions: In materials pre-exposed to 25% HPS, the effect of PDP on color recovery was lower than in unexposed materials. After 28 days, mechanical polishing produced higher color change in FC than glazing, however, in ZLS effects of glazing and mechanical polishing on color were similar. For material/polishing method, HC was the most effective. ENE caused higher color change than DIS and SAM. PDP was more effective than ENE in restoring color to DIS- and SAM-immersed specimens. Background: Apexification is a procedure that promotes apical closure by forming mineralized tissue in the apex region of a nonvital young permanent tooth. Calcium silicate-based cement like Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Biodentine are commonly employed as apical barriers to facilitate this process. Microleakage, defined as the leakage along the junction between the canal wall and filling material, is a crucial aspect to assess in MTA and Biodentine applications as apical barriers, as it directly impacts the prevention of bacterial seepage and maintenance of structural integrity. The current study aims to assess the microleakage of MTA and Biodentine when used as apical barriers in simulated young permanent teeth. Methods: From a total of 128 extracted teeth, 114 were selected for the study and randomly allocated into three groups: G1 (MTA), G2 (Biodentine), and G3 (Control), with 38 teeth per group. After excluding 5 teeth from each group due to issues such as canal calcification, breakage during sectioning, and procedural errors, 33 teeth were analyzed to ensure equal distribution. To simulate young permanent teeth, samples were instrumented using a person-reamer with a diameter of 1.7 mm. A 4 mm thick apical plug of MTA and Biodentine was placed in G1 and G2, respectively, while G3 was the control group. Apical microleakage in all experimental groups was assessed using a dye penetration method. Specimens were longitudinally sectioned and examined under a stereomicroscope with graded eyepiece. Results: The Kruskal-Wallis test revealed variations in mean apical microleakage among the groups: G1 recorded 0.67, G2–0.16, and G3–1.62, with G2 showing the lowest value and G3 group exhibiting the highest. Conclusions: Biodentine was found to excel in its ability to create a secure seal and function effectively as an apical barrier in simulated young permanent teeth. These results underscore its potential as a highly efficient material for dental applications, particularly in scenarios requiring reliable sealing and barrier formation in the root canal system of developing permanent teeth. Backgrounds: Infection control nurses' job are crucial for patient and healthcare workers safety. However, effective infections prevention is based on the interdisciplinary team work, involving almost all hospital employees professionals. Difficulties in cooperation in such a team, especially prolonged ones, as well as crisis situations, may cause burnout. The aim of the study was to determine burnout among infection control nurses working during the COVID-19 pandemic in the context of difficulties in cooperation with different professionals working in hospitals. Methods: The observational study was conducted between May and September 2021, using an online survey questionnaire consisting of two parts: describing difficulties in ICNs cooperation with different hospital professionals and Maslach Inventory Burnout scale, describing emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP) and personal accomplishment rates (PA). Correctly completed online surveys were obtained from 177 participants. Results: Most of the respondents (176 of 177) were women, working in public hospitals (81.48%). All respondents had considerable experience in work as nurses - the median was 30 years. However, the median experience in the ICNs position was 12 years. Median age of respondents was 51 years. The median level of EE was 31.0, w ith the range 23.0 to 39.0. For DP it was 5.0, with the range 3.0 and 11.5, while for PA – 24.0 (19.0–29.0). The highest values of EE were observed in the context of high level of difficulties with cooperation with management – the median was 36.0. DP was lowest among nurses declaring the lowest difficulties in cooperation with doctors. For PA the lowest level was observed in the group declaring high difficulties in the cooperation with doctors – median 22.0, with range 14.0–29.0. Conclusions: The surveyed ICNs had higher rates of EE and PA than nurses working with patients, both before and during the pandemic. The level of burnout found in the ICN study group reached a level correlating in other studies with the intention to quit the job. The obtained results indicate the need to include effective training in the skills of working in multidisciplinary teams and the art of communication and achieving goals by ICNs. Background: Missed nursing care poses a significant challenge for healthcare staff in terms of patient safety and care quality. Objective: To evaluate presenteeism and missed care attitudes of nurses and to determine the correlation between presenteeism and missed care. Methods: This descriptive, correlational, and observational study was conducted between February and August 2023. The Stanford Presenteeism Scale-Short Form and the MISSCARE Survey were used to collect the data among nurses at two public hospitals in a city in Turkey. The study was completed with 229 nurses representing 27.4% of the total number of nurses who met the inclusion criteria. The data was analyzed using a comprehensive analytical approach, including Cronbach's alpha analysis, frequency and percentage distribution, the Shapiro–Wilk test of normality, correlation coefficient analysis, Pearson correlation coefficient, and the Bonferroni test. Results: The participants' mean age was 30.22 ± 7.14 years, and 74.2% of them were female. 53.3% of the participants reported difficulty providing patient care due to material shortages, and 62.9% experienced challenges delivering care due to the intensity of paperwork in the clinic. Nurses who felt that paperwork intensity affected patient care and were not confident in their care provision had higher levels of presenteeism (p = 0.041) and a significantly higher frequency of missed care instances (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Material shortages and high paperwork intensity are contributing factors to the difficulties experienced by nurses in their practice. These difficulties may lead to an increase in presenteeism and instances of missed nursing care. It is important to address these challenges to ensure adequate care provision and reduce the likelihood of presenteeism among nurses. Background: Swine flu might serve as a model for challenges that primary care faces during pandemics. This study examined changes in the numbers and diagnoses of general practitioner (GP) visits during and after the Swine flu pandemic in Vantaa, a Finnish city, and how GP activities recovered after the pandemic. Putative sex and age group differences were also evaluated. Methods: The study was an observational retrospective study. The monthly number of patient visits to primary care GPs by women and men in age groups 0–19, 20–64 and 65 + years was recorded before, during and two years after the Swine flu pandemic. The recorded diagnoses were also examined. The investigation period was from 2008 to 2012. Results: The numbers of monthly visits to primary care decreased from 12 324 (mean) to 10 817 in women and from 8563 to 7612 in men during the first six months of the Swine flu, returning to the original level afterwards. This decrease was thus slightly more prominent in women. However, as the size of the population increased during the follow-up period, the actual number of GP visits adjusted for the size of population remained at a decreased level for two years after the Swine flu. This decrease was observed especially in office-hours visits of men (from 3692 to 3260) and women (from 6301 to 5428) of 20–64 years. Swine flu did not alter the number of visits to the primary care Emergency Department. The proportion of visits with diagnostic recordings of common infectious diseases mostly decreased during the Swine flu. Only a minor impact on the distribution of recordings of chronic diagnoses was found. Conclusion: A pandemic, such as Swine flu, may decrease office-hours visits to primary care GPs. This in turn may lead to activities of primary care being adjusted downward for a long time following the pandemic. Especially the age group 20–64 years may be affected. This risk should be considered when recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic begins. Background: In spinal surgery adverse events (AE) and surgical complications (SC) significantly affect patient's outcome and quality of life. The duration of surgery has been investigated in different surgical field as risk factor for complications. The aim of this study is to analyze the correlation between operative time and adverse events in spinal surgery. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data collected prospectively in a cohort of 336 patients surgically treated for spinal diseases of oncological and degenerative origin in a single center, between January 2017 to January 2018. Demographics and clinical data were collected. Adverse events were classified using Spinal Adverse Events Severity System version 2 (SAVES-V2) capture system. Focusing on degenerative patients, bivariate analysis and univariate logistic regression were used to determine the association between operative time and complications. Results: A total of 105/336 patients experienced an AE related to surgery, respectively 38% in the oncological group and 28% in the degenerative group. The average age at surgery was 60.3 years (SD 17.1) and the mean operative time was 164.8 ± 138 min. A total of 206 adverse events (30 intraoperative, 135 early postoperative and 41 late postoperative AEs) were recorded. Early post-operative complications accounted for the most recorded AEs (55.5% in the oncological group and 73.2% in the degenerative group). Univariate logistic regression analyses confirmed that operative time correlated with increased risk of intra-operative (p-value = 0.0008), early post-operative (p-value < 0.001) and late post-operative (p-value < 0.001) adverse events. Conclusions: This study highlights the strong correlation between the occurrence of adverse events in spinal surgery and prolonged operative time and suggests that efforts should be made to minimize the duration of surgical procedures while prioritizing patient's safety, without compromising the technical achievement of the procedure. Background: Poly-victimization (PV) not only threatens physical and mental health but also causes a range of social problems. Left-behind children in rural areas are more likely to experience PV problems. However, there have been fewer studies on PV among rural children, and even fewer intervention studies. Objective: The difference-in-differences method was employed to analyze the impact of intervention measures, based on the theory of planned behavior, on PV among left-behind children in rural areas. Methods: The study subjects were left-behind children from six middle schools in two cities in southern China, who completed the baseline survey from 2020 to 2021. They were divided into a control group and an intervention group, each consisting of 228 cases, based on their schools. Before and after the intervention, the Self-made victimization-related knowledge, attitude, and practice questionnaire, Poly-victimization scale, and Middle school students' coping style scale were used to evaluate the victimization-related KAP(knowledge, attitude, and practice), victimization occurrence, and coping styles of left-behind children, respectively. Stata 15.0 was used to establish a difference-in-differences regression model to analyze the impact of the intervention measures on poly-victimization and coping styles. Results: Mixed Anova revealed that after the intervention, the KAP scores of the intervention group were significantly higher than those of the control group (p < 0.05). After the intervention, the incidence of child victimization in the intervention group dropped to 9.60% (n = 22), lower than in the baseline survey, with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.01). The incidence of PV among children in the intervention group was lower than that in the control group, with the difference being statistically significant (p < 0.01). The net reduction in the incidence of PV among children was 21.20%. After the intervention, the protection rate for preventing PV among children was 73.33%, and the effect index was 3.75. The intervention improved children's coping styles, problem-solving, and help-seeking, while reducing negative coping styles such as avoidance and venting, with the differences being statistically significant (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Intervention measures based on the theory of planned behavior reduce the occurrence of PV among left-behind children, and the intervention effects on different types of victimization are also different. Background: Despite efforts to promote guideline use, guideline adoption is often suboptimal due to failure to identify and address relevant barriers. Barriers vary not only between guidelines but also between settings, intended users, and targeted patients. Multi-professional guidelines are often used in child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), making the implementation process more difficult. Despite this, there is a lack of knowledge about which barriers to consider or if barriers vary by profession. The aim of this study was to address these gaps by examining barriers to adopting a multi-professional depression guideline in the context of a nationwide implementation study. Methods: 440 CAMHS clinicians across Sweden (52%) completed the Barriers and Facilitators Assessment Instrument (BFAI) ahead of an implementation endeavour. BFAI is a widely used and validated measure of guideline implementation on four scales: Innovation, Provider, Context, and Patient. Barriers were calculated at scale and at item levels. ANOVA and chi-square tests were used to analyse differences by profession and effect sizes were calculated. Results: Overall, clinicians were optimistic about guideline uptake, particularly about guideline characteristics and their own adoption ability. Barriers were related to the patient and the context domains, as well as to individual clinician knowledge and training. Perceptions differed across professions; psychiatrists were most, and counsellors were least positive about guideline embeddedness. Conclusion: This large-scale quantitative study suggests that CAMHS clinicians have an overall favourable attitude towards guideline adoption but highlights the need for adaptations to certain patient groups. Strategies to improve guideline use should primarily address these patient issues while securing proper support to the implementation. Implementation efforts, particularly those targeting staff knowledge, training, and involvement, may benefit from being tailored to different professional needs. Background: Accumulating evidence has suggested that sleep disturbances and disorders are common in patients who undergo knee arthroplasty. Revision surgery represents one of the most catastrophic outcomes of knee arthroplasty. However, it remains unclear whether sleep traits are the causes or consequences of knee arthroplasty revision. This study aimed to genetically examine the relationships between sleep traits and knee arthroplasty revision. Methods: To determine the causal relationship between sleep traits and knee arthroplasty revision, we employed two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) using summary statistics from the largest publicly available genome-wide association studies (GWASs). The MR design uses genetic variants as instrumental variables to help separate causal relationships from non-causal associations. The main analyses included an inverse variance weighted (IVW) meta-analysis to obtain primary effect estimates. Sensitivity analyses involving the weighted median approach and MR-Egger regression were also conducted to check for potential pleiotropic biases. Numerous complementary sensitivity analyses were also performed to identify statistically significant causal correlations when there were horizontal pleiotropy and heterogeneity across variants. Finally, a reverse MR analysis was performed to evaluate the possibility of reverse causation. Results: In the absence of heterogeneity and horizontal pleiotropy, the IVW method revealed that genetically-predicted short sleep duration short sleep duration (average sleep duration of 24 h is 6 h or less) was positively correlated with the risk of knee arthroplasty revision (odds ratio = 1.03, 95% confidence interval = 1.01–1.05, and P = 0.003), while the association between genetically-predicted long sleep duration and knee arthroplasty was negative. The reverse MR analysis did not yield evidence supporting reverse causality relation between knee arthroplasty revision and sleep phenotypes. Conclusion: This research indicated that, of the 10 sleep phenotypes we analyzed, only sleep duration was causally associated with knee arthroplasty revision. These discoveries added to the understanding of the role of sleep traits in the etiology of knee arthroplasty revision, which might further expand our insights into the prevention of knee arthroplasty revision. Background: A positive work environment can enhance nursing safety and patient satisfaction while alleviating nurse stress. Conversely, a poor work environment can harm nurses' physical and mental health and compromise the quality of care, particularly in the high-intensity and shift-based setting of the ICU. Objectives: Based on the Job demands-resources (JD-R) model, this study examined the effects of job demands and job resources in the work environment, as well as personal resources, on the night-shift alertness of ICU shift nurses. Methods: This cross-sectional correlational exploratory study, conducted from July to September 2022, recruited 291 ICU shift nurses from a hospital in Beijing, China. The Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ), the Self-resilience scale, the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), and the Psychomotor Vigilance Task (PVT) were used to subjectively and objectively measure the job demands, job resources, personal resources, and night-shift alertness. SPSS 26.0 and Mplus 8.3 were used to analyze the data and construct the structural equation model. Results: The night-shift reaction time was 251.0 ms (Median), indicating a relatively high level of alertness. Job demands were negatively correlated with both job resources (r=-0.570, P < 0.001) and personal resources (r=-0.462, P < 0.001), while a positive correlation existed between job resources and personal resources (r = 0.554, P < 0.001). The results show that increased job demands can lead to higher levels of nurse strain (β = 0.955, P < 0.001), whereas job resources were found that it can decrease strain (β=-0.477, P = 0.047). Adequate job resources can enhance motivation directly (β = 0.874, P < 0.001), subsequently reducing reaction time (β=-0.148, P = 0.044) and improving night-shift alertness among ICU shift nurses. Conclusion: Enhancing ICU shift nurses' work motivation through bolstering job resources can boost night-shift alertness. However, it is noteworthy that, in this study, neither strain nor individual resources significantly influenced nurses' night-shift alertness. This may be attributed to the complexity of the ICU environment and individual differences. Future research should explore the relationship between these factors and nurses' work alertness. Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative osteoarticular disease, involving genetic predisposition. How the risk variants confer the risk of OA through their effects on proteins remains largely unknown. Therefore, we aimed to discover new and effective drug targets for OA and its subtypes. Methods: A proteome-wide association study (PWAS) was performed based on OA and its subtypes genome-wide association studies (GWAS) summary datasets and the protein quantitative trait loci (pQTL) data. Subsequently, Mendelian randomization (MR) and colocalization analysis was conducted to estimate the associations between protein and OA risk. The replication analysis was performed in an independent dataset of human plasma pQTL data. Results: The abundance of seven proteins was causally related to OA, two proteins to knee OA and six proteins to hip OA, respectively. We replicated 2 of these proteins using an independent pQTL dataset. With the further support of colocalization, and higher ECM1 level was causally associated with a higher risk of OA and hip OA. Higher PCSK1 level was causally associated with a lower risk of OA. And higher levels of ITIH1, EFEMP1, and ERLEC1 were associated with decreased risk of hip OA. Background: Postoperative refracture of osteoporotic compression fractures in the elderly due to underlying illnesses is a complicated matter involving several variables. A multidisciplinary approach involving orthopedics, geriatrics, endocrinology, and rehabilitation medicine is necessary for an investigation of these issues. investigating the impact of older patients' underlying medical conditions on the refracture of osteoporotic compression fractures following surgery. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 2383 patients between August 2013 and August 2023. 550 patients with comorbid geriatric underlying diseases were screened, 183 patients underwent refractories, and 367 patients were classified as non-refractories. The patients were then divided into two groups: those undergoing refractories and those not, and the underlying diseases of the patients in both groups were examined using ROC curves and unifactorial and multifactorial logistic regression analyses. Results: Among the patients gathered, the frequency of re-fracture was 33.3%. A statistically significant difference was observed when re-fracture was linked to patients with long-term alcohol consumption, operated vertebrae ≤ 1, hypertension, COPD, diabetes mellitus, stroke sequelae, conservative treatment of coronary heart disease, trauma, mental abnormality, scoliosis, and chronic renal disease. Having hypertension decreased the risk of re-fracture (P = 0.018, OR = 0.548), while alcohol intake ≥ 10years (P = 0.003, OR = 2.165), mental abnormality (P < 0.001, OR = 4.093), scoliosis (P < 0.001, OR = 6.243), chronic kidney disease (P = 0.002, OR = 2.208), and traumatic injuries (P = 0.029, OR = 3.512) were the risk factors examined in a binary logistic regression analysis. The results of multiple linear stepwise regression analysis indicated that re-fracture was more influenced by scoliosis. Conclusions: Hypertensive disorders were protective factors against the formation of re-fracture, while alcohol intake usage for more than ten years, psychological abnormalities, scoliosis, chronic kidney disease, and trauma were risk factors. Background: Prematurity-related brain injury is a common and serious complication that has long-term effects on the survival and development of affected infants. Currently, the roles of certain biomarkers such as the protein hydrolysis product SBDP145, melatonin, soluble lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor-1 (sLOX-1), high mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB1), and hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α) in prematurity-related brain injury remain not fully elucidated. Our study aims to assess the significance of SBDP145, melatonin, sLOX-1, HMGB1 and HIF-1α in preterm infants with brain injury. Methods: 135 preterm infants admitted to our hospital from January 2020 to February 2022 were selected and divided into 78 cases in a prematurity-associated brain injury group, and 57 cases in another group of preterm infants without brain injury or other diseases according to the magnetic resonance imaging results. The levels of SBDP145, melatonin, sLOX-1, HMGB1 and HIF-1α in the two groups were analyzed. The serum concentrations of SBDP145, melatonin, sLOX-1, HMGB1 and HIF-1α in newborns with different severity of ventricular hemorrhage were observed, and the levels of SBDP145, melatonin, sLOX-1, HMGB1 and HIF-1α in those with different severity of white matter brain injury were compared. Results: The levels of SBDP145, sLOX-1, HMGB1 and HIF-1α were significantly higher in the preterm combined brain injury group than in the preterm group, and melatonin levels were significantly lower than in the preterm group(P < 0.05). The levels of SBDP145, sLOX-1, HMGB1 and HIF-1α were higher in the moderate to severe group and melatonin levels were lower in the mild group of newborns with ventricular hemorrhage (P < 0.05). The levels of SBDP145, sLOX-1, HMGB1 and HIF-1α were higher in the moderate-severe group and melatonin levels were lower in the mild group in newborns with cerebral white matter injury (P < 0.05). The independent variables were SBDP145, melatonin, sLOX-1, HMGB1, HIF-1α, and the dependent variable was the prognosis of neonates with brain injury. Univariate logistic regression analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed. The results showed that the influencing factors of newborns with brain injury were SBDP145, melatonin, sLOX-1, HMGB1, HIF-1α. Conclusion: The levels of SBDP145, melatonin, sLOX-1, HMGB1 and HIF-1α were highly expressed in preterm newborns with brain injury, and the levels were higher when the condition of the newborns was more severe. These findings suggest the potential clinical utility of these biomarkers in predicting and monitoring brain injury in preterm infants, which could aid in early intervention and improve long-term outcomes. Background: To predict the long-term performance of restorative materials in the oral environment, it is important to evaluate their resistance to chemical and mechanical degradation and to know the toxic potential of the type and amount of ions eluted from the filling material. In this study, home bleaching was applied to dental materials with different contents and it was aimed to determine the type and amount of ions released from these materials. Methods: In this study, amalgam, posterior composite resin, anterior composite resin, bulk fill composite resin, indirect composite resin, hybrid ceramic and all-ceramic were used as restorative materials. 10 specimens of each material were prepared according to the manufacturer's instructions. Each material group was divided into two subgroups as the bleached group and the control group. After bleaching, all specimens were stored in 1 ml of 75% ethanol/water solution. Solutions were renewed after 1, 14 and 28 days. The type and amount of ions released from the materials were determined using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS). Data were analyzed using the Friedman, Wilcoxon Signed Ranks, and Mann-Whitney U tests (α = 0.05). Results: It was determined that the amount of ions release from the restorative materials decreased over time (p < 0.05). According to the results of the Mann-Whitney U test, there was no difference between the bleaching and control groups in most of the restorative materials (p > 0.05). Background: This single-blind randomized controlled trial was aimed to evaluate the microbiological and clinical effects of Zeger therapy on gingival health. Methods: Twenty-four adults with gingivitis were recruited and monitored micro-biologically and clinically at baseline (Day 0), 4 weeks (Day 29) after therapy. All volunteers received one-stage full-mouth supragingival scaling as basic oral health care for baseline, and then randomly divided into experimental (koumiss, n = 12) or control (none, n = 12) group. The koumiss was used once a day for 4 weeks. Results: The microbial diversity of the experimental group increased significantly after drinking koumiss (p < 0.05), mainly owing to increasing of Gram-positive bacteria (p = 0.038) and oral health-related microbes (Rothia, Corynebacterium, Actinomyces, Saccharibacteria_TM7, etc.), decreasing of Gram-negative bacteria (p = 0.009) and periodontal disease-related microbes (Porphyromonas, Fusobacterium, Veillonella, etc.), while the microbial diversity of the control group had no significant change (p > 0.05). However, there was no significant difference between the two groups in the clinical parameters (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Zeger therapy promotes the diversity of supragingival microbiome in adults with gingivitis and increases the abundance of some beneficial flora while decreasing some harmful without clinical parameters marked changing, which holds promise for improving of gingivitis and may be a valuable oral health care approach in the future. Background: Different materials have been used as wound dressings after vital pulp therapies. Some of them have limitations such as delayed setting, difficult administration, slight degree of cytotoxicity, crown discoloration and high cost. Therefore, to overcome these disadvantages, composite scaffolds have been used in regenerative dentistry. This study aims to construct and characterize the physicochemical behavior of a novel injectable alginate hydrogel loaded with different bioactive glass nanoparticles in various concentrations as a regenerative pulpotomy filling material. Methods: Alginate hydrogels were prepared by dissolving alginate powder in alcoholic distilled water containing mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBG NPs) or boron-doped MBG NPs (BMBG NPs) at 10 and 20 wt% concentrations. The mixture was stirred and incubated overnight in a water bath at 50 0 C to ensure complete solubility. A sterile dual-syringe system was used to mix the alginate solution with 20 wt% calcium chloride solution, forming the hydrogel upon extrusion. Then, constructed hydrogel specimens from all groups were characterized by FTIR, SEM, water uptake percentage (WA%), bioactivity and ion release, and cytotoxicity. Statistical analysis was done using One-Way ANOVA test for comparisons between groups, followed by multiple pairwise comparisons using Bonferroni adjusted significance level (p < 0.05). Results: Alginate/BMBG loaded groups exhibited remarkable increase in porosity and pore size diameter [IIB1 (168), IIB2 (183) (µm)]. Similarly, WA% increased (~ 800%) which was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Alginate/BMBG loaded groups exhibited the strongest bioactive capability displaying prominent clusters of hydroxyapatite precipitates on hydrogel surfaces. Ca/P ratio of precipitates in IIA2 and IIB1 (1.6) were like Ca/P ratio for stoichiometric pure hydroxyapatite (1.67). MTT assay data revealed that the cell viability % of human gingival fibroblast cells have declined with increasing the concentration of both powders and hydrogel extracts in all groups after 24 and 48 h but still higher than the accepted cell viability % of (˃70%). Conclusions: The outstanding laboratory performance of the injectable alginate/BMBGNPs (20 wt%) composite hydrogel suggested it as promising candidate for pulpotomy filling material potentially enhancing dentin regeneration in clinical applications. The present study aimed to compare the effect of photobiomodulation with different energy densities on the angiogenic differentiation of human periodontal ligament stem cells (hPDLSCs) and stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED). Photobiomodulation therapy with a 660 nm diode laser (2.4 J/cm2 and 3.9 J/cm2) on two consecutive days post-culture was applied to two types of stem cells (hPDLSCs and SHED). The Quantitative Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR) test was undertaken to investigate Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor-A (VEGF-A) and Angiopoietin I (ANG-I) genes on days 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10 after the first session of laser application. The 4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining and Methyl Thiazolyl Tetrazolium (MTT) test were conducted on days 1, 3, and 5 after the first session of laser application, to assess the cell viability. The Two-way ANOVA with Tukey post hoc test was used to analyze the outcomes of the MTT and RT-qPCR tests. The results of the MTT and DAPI convergently illustrated that the groups receiving photobiomodulation with 2.4 J/cm2 had higher cell viability compared to 3.9 J/cm2. All experimental groups showed an upregulation of VEGF-A and ANG-I gene expression from day 1 to 5, followed by a downregulation from day 5 to 10. The groups with cultured hPDLSCs and SHED receiving photobiomodulation using 2.4 J/cm2 had the most amounts of VEGF-A and ANG-I gene expression on day 5, respectively. In conclusion, the 660 nm mediated photobiomodulation therapy of cultured SHED and hPDLSCs with 2.4 J/cm2 energy density may be associated with higher angiogenic differentiation (the expression of VEGF-A and ANG-I) as well as higher cell viability compared to the photobiomodulation therapy with 3.9 J/cm2. Introduction: Acute lung injury (ALI) as one kind of acute pulmonary inflammatory disorder, manifests primarily as damage to alveolar epithelial cells and microvascular endothelial cells. Activation of the complement system is a common pathological mechanism in ALI induced by diverse factors, with the complement alternative pathway assuming a pivotal role. Baicalin, a flavonoid derived from the root of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, exhibits noteworthy biological activities. The present study attempted the interventional effects and underlying mechanisms of baicalin in microangiopathy in ALI induced by complement alternative pathway activation. Methods: Activation of the complement alternative pathway by cobra venom factor (CVF). HMEC cells were pretreated with baicalin and then exposed to complement activation products. The expression of inflammatory mediators was detected by ELISA, and the intranuclear transcriptional activity of NF-κB was assessed by a dual fluorescent kinase reporter gene assay kit. Before establishing the ALI mouse model, baicalin or PDTC was gavaged for 7 d. CVF was injected into the tail vein to establish the ALI model. The levels of inflammatory mediators in BALF and serum were determined by ELISA. HE staining and immunohistochemistry evaluated pathological changes, complement activation product deposition, and NF-κB p65 phosphorylation in lung tissue. Results: Baicalin reduced complement alternative activation product-induced expression of HMEC cells adhesion molecules (ICAM-1, VCAM-1, E-selectin) and cytokines (IL-6, TNF-α) as well as upregulation of NF-κB intranuclear transcriptional activity. Baicalin intervention reduced the number of inflammatory cells and protein content in the BALF and decreased the levels of IL-6, TNF-α, and ICAM-1 in serum and IL-6, TNF-α, ICAM-1, and P-selectin in BLAF. In addition, baicalin attenuated inflammatory cell infiltration in the lung of ALI mice and reduced the deposition of complement activation products (C5a, C5b-9) and phosphorylation of NF-κB p65 in lung tissue. Background: In early 2020, COVID-19 pandemic has mobilized researchers in finding new remedies including repurposing of medicinal plant products focusing on direct-acting antiviral and host-directed therapies. In this study, we performed an in vitro investigation on the standardized Marantodes pumilum extract (SKF7®) focusing on anti-SARS-CoV-2 and anti-inflammatory activities. Methods: Anti-SARS-CoV-2 potential of the SKF7® was evaluated in SARS-CoV-2-infected Vero E6 cells and SARS-CoV-2-infected A549 cells by cytopathic effect-based assay and RT-qPCR, respectively. Target based assays were performed on the SKF7® against the S1-ACE2 interaction and 3CL protease activities. Anti-inflammatory activity of the SKF7® was evaluated by nitric oxide inhibitory and TLR2/TLR4 receptor blocker assays. Results: The SKF7® inhibited wild-type Wuhan (EC50 of 21.99 µg/mL) and omicron (EC50 of 16.29 µg/mL) SARS-CoV-2 infections in Vero-E6 cells. The SKF7® also inhibited the wild-type SARS-CoV-2 infection in A549 cells (EC50 value of 6.31 µg/mL). The SKF7® prominently inhibited 3CL protease activity. The SKF7® inhibited the LPS induced-TLR4 response with the EC50 of 16.19 µg/mL. Conclusions: In conclusion, our in vitro study highlighted anti-SARS-CoV-2 and anti-inflammatory potentials of the SKF7®. Future pre-clinical in vivo studies focusing on antiviral and immunomodulatory potentials of the SKF7® in affecting the COVID-19 pathogenesis are warranted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Spinal manipulation (SM) has been claimed to change anatomy, either in structure or position, and that these changes may be the cause of clinical improvements. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate and synthesise the peer-reviewed literature on the current evidence of anatomical changes in response to SM. Methods: The review was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42022304971) and reporting was guided by the standards of the PRISMA Statement. We searched Medline, Embase, CINAHL, AMED, Cochrane Library all databases, PEDro, and the Index to Chiropractic Literature from inception to 11 March 2022 and updated on 06 June 2023. Search terms included manipulation, adjustment, chiropractic, osteopathy, spine and spine-related structures. We included primary research studies that compared outcomes with and without SM regardless of study design. Manipulation was defined as high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust delivered by hand to the spine or directly related joints. Included studies objectively measured a potential change in an anatomical structure or in position. We developed a novel list of methodological quality items in addition to a short, customized list of risk of bias (RoB) items. We used quality and RoB items together to determine whether an article was credible or not credible. We sought differences in outcomes between SM and control groups for randomised controlled trials and crossover studies, and between pre- and post-SM outcomes for other study designs. We reported, in narrative form, whether there was a change or not. Results: The search retrieved 19,572 articles and 20 of those were included for review. Study topics included vertebral position (n = 3) facet joint space (n = 5), spinal stiffness (n = 3), resting muscle thickness (n = 6), intervertebral disc pressure (n = 1), myofascial hysteresis (n = 1), and further damage to already damaged arteries (n = 1). Eight articles were considered credible. The credible articles indicated that lumbar facet joint space increased and spinal stiffness decreased but that the resting muscle thickness did not change. Conclusion: We found few studies on this topic. However, there are two promising areas for future study: facet joint space and spinal stiffness. Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection significantly contributes to the global cancer burden. Understanding the factors influencing male clinical interns' willingness to promote HPV vaccination is crucial for developing effective public health strategies in China. Methods: This study employed a stratified random sampling method to select 1,980 male clinical interns from five provinces in China between January and March 2024. Data were collected on participants' demographic characteristics, HPV-related clinical experience, and knowledge. The Theory of Planned Behavior framework, encompassing attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, was used to examine factors influencing the willingness to promote the HPV vaccine. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify factors associated with the willingness to promote the HPV vaccine. Results: Among the respondents, 72.29% were willing to encourage others to receive the HPV vaccine. Significant factors influencing this willingness included older age (OR = 3.065, P ≤ 0.001), higher monthly household income (OR = 1.449, P = 0.025), participation in the diagnosis and treatment of HPV-related diseases (OR = 3.458, P ≤ 0.001), positive attitude towards the vaccine (OR = 13.503, P = 0.004), and strong perceived behavioral control (OR = 2.364, P = 0.006). Conclusion: This study highlights the critical role of practical experience and targeted education in promoting HPV vaccination among male clinical interns in China. Objective: To investigate the current situation of innovative behavior and organizational structure authorization of ophthalmic specialty nurses in China, and analyze the influencing factors of innovative behavior. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out among 301 ophthalmic specialty nurses in China, representing Representing 82 hospitals in 25 provinces, using a general data questionnaire, Innovative Behavior Scale(IBS), and conditions of work effectiveness questionnaire(CWEQ-II). Results: The mean total score for innovative behavior among Chinese ophthalmic specialty nurses was (4.73 ± 1.14), and the mean total score for organizational structure authorization was (61.65 ± 14.69). The logistic regression analysis revealed that organizational structure authorization, hospital grade, and ophthalmic specialty nurses primarily engaged in clinical care and clinical research had statistically significant impacts on the level of innovative behavior (P < 0.05). The higher the organizational structure authorization score, the higher the innovative behavior level of ophthalmic specialty nurses, the level of innovation behavior of grade-B tertiary hospitals is higher than that of grade-A tertiary hospitals. The main positions are low level of innovative behavior in clinical care and high level of innovative behavior in clinical research. Conclusions: The innovative behavior and organizational structure authorization of Chinese ophthalmic specialty nurses are at a medium level, the innovative behavior of ophthalmic specialty nurses is influenced by factors such as organizational structure empowerment level, hospital grade, and main job position. Nursing managers are advised to develop tailored training programs based on the influencing factors of innovative behavior among Chinese ophthalmic specialty nurses, in order to enhance their level of innovation and improve the quality of nursing services provided by Chinese ophthalmic specialty nurses. Background: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been hailed as a rich source of medicine, but many types of herbs and their functions still need to be rapidly discovered and elucidated. HerboChip, a target-based drug screening platform, is an array of different fractions deriving from herbal extracts. This study was designed to identify effective components from TCM that interact with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) as a target using HerboChip. Methods: Selected TCMs that are traditionally used as remedies for cancer prevention and wound healing were determined and extracted with 50% ethanol. Biotinylated-VEGF was hybridized with over 500 chips coated with different HPLC-separated fractions from TCM extracts and straptavidin-Cy5 was applied to identify plant extracts containing VEGF-binding fractions. Cytotoxicity of selected herbal extracts and their activities on VEGF-mediated angiogenic functions were evaluated. Results: Over 500 chips were screened within a week, and ten positive hits were identified. The interaction of the identified herbal extracts with VEGF was confirmed in cultured endothelial cells. The identified herbs promoted or inhibited VEGF-mediated cell proliferation, migration and tube formation. Results from western blotting analysis demonstrated the identified herbal extracts significantly affected VEGF-triggered phosphorylations of eNOS, Akt and Erk. Five TCMs demonstrated potentiating activities on the VEGF response and five TCMs revealed suppressive activities. Conclusions: The current results demonstrated the applicability of the HerboChip platform and systematically elucidated the activity of selected TCMs on angiogenesis and its related signal transduction mechanisms. Background: The prevalence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in the French overseas department of French Guiana, South America, nearly doubles that in its European counterpart, Metropolitan France. This region is demographically diverse and includes several populations of Indigenous Peoples. Although such populations are at particular risk of developing T2D across the Americas, very little is known about their health status in French Guiana, and accurate numbers of diabetic patients do not exist. Methods: In light of a potential public health crisis, an ethnomedicinal study of diabetes experienced by Indigenous Parikweneh was conducted to provide better insight into the knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) related to this quickly emerging disease in French Guiana. Altogether, 75 interviews were conducted with community members and Elders, as well as healthcare professionals and administrators providing services to the Parikweneh population of Macouria and Saint-Georges de l'Oyapock. Results: Interviews suggest a high incidence of T2D in this population, with cases that have risen quickly since the mid-twentieth century. Parikweneh participants linked the development of the illness to dietary changes, notably through the introduction of new and sweet foods. Recognizing the complexity of diabetes and its symptoms, diabetic patients highlighted the importance of biomedical treatments and follow-ups, though they frequently alternated or used them concomitantly with Parikweneh medicines. With the help of biomedical tools (i.e. glucometer), local medicinal practices mirrored biomedical approaches through dietary adaptation and the use of medicinal animals and plants for glycaemic control and the treatment of complications from the disease. Conclusion: Parikweneh are appropriating T2D into their knowledge system and adapting their health system in response to this relatively new health concern. A greater understanding of local practices and perceptions relating to T2D among medical staff may therefore be beneficial for meeting patients' needs, providing greater autonomy in their health path, and improving treatment outcomes. Background: Since December 2021, Wuxi, China has offered a two-dose human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination to 14-year-old females for free. This study evaluated the costs and benefits of this vaccination scheduled in the Expanded Program on Immunization in Wuxi from the perspective of the cities' demographic characteristics, economic development, and policy support. Methods: The model-based economic evaluation used TreeAge Pro software to construct a decision tree-Markov model for the vaccination strategy in which 100,000 14-year-old females received two doses of bivalent HPV vaccine or no vaccination. Costs and effects of the strategy were assessed from a societal perspective through literature research and data obtained from the Wuxi Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. Univariate, multivariate, and probabilistic sensitivity analyses assessed the stability of the findings. Results: The cost of the bivalent HPV vaccine in Wuxi is 711.3 CNY. The two-dose of bivalent HPV vaccine for 100,000 14-year-old females would cost an additional 658,016 CNY compared to no vaccination, but would result in 1,960 Quality Adjustment Years of Life (QALYs). Using the per capita gross domestic product of 187,415 CNY in 2021 in Wuxi as the willingness-to-pay threshold, the vaccination strategy costs 3,357.37 CNY per QALY gained, which is much lower than the threshold, suggesting that it is a very cost-effective strategy. In addition, the vaccine strategy reduced the incidence of cervical cancer by 300 cases and cervical cancer deaths by 181 cases, representing a benefit-cost ratio of 2.86 (> 1) when health output outcomes were measured in monetary terms. These results suggested that the vaccination strategy was advantageous. Sensitivity analyses showed that changes in the parameters did not affect the conclusions and that the findings were robust. Conclusions: Compared to no vaccination, the delivery of two doses of bivalent HPV vaccine for 14-year-old females was a more highly cost-effective and optimal strategy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Narrative nursing is a novel approach according with humanistic care, which has been shown to be effective in improving health outcomes for both patients and nurses. Nevertheless, few studies have investigated the status of narrative nursing practice among nurses, and a comprehensive understanding of factors influencing this practice remains elusive. Design: This was an observational, cross-sectional study using convenience sampling method. Methods: After obtaining the informed consent, a total of 931 registered nurses from three hospitals in China were investigated. Data were collected using the Social Support Rating Scale, the General Self-efficacy Scale, and the Knowledge-Attitude-Practice Survey of Clinical Nurses on Narrative Nursing. All the scales were validated in the Chinese population. The questionnaire results were verified by an independent investigator. Factors influencing narrative nursing practice were determined through a series of analyses, including independent sample t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlations. Subsequently, path analysis was performed and a structural equation model was established. Results: The score of narrative nursing practice in this study was 30.26 ± 5.32. The structural equation model showed a good fit, with a Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) of 0.007 (90%CI: 0.000, 0.047). Both social support and narrative nursing attitude could directly affect narrative nursing practice (βsocial support = 0.08, P < 0.001; βattitude = 0.54, P < 0.001) and indirectly influence it via self-efficacy (βsocial support = 0.04, P < 0.001; βattitude = 0.06, P < 0.001). In addition, narrative nursing knowledge (β = 0.08, P < 0.001) and the nurses' growth environment (β=-0.06, P < 0.001) also affected the practice of narrative nursing. Conclusion: Narrative nursing in China is at a medium level and could be influenced by several personal and environmental factors. This study highlighted the critical role of nursing management in the advancement of narrative nursing practices. Background: Tyrosine-rich amelogenin peptide (TRAP) is the main amelogenin digestion product in the developmental enamel matrix. It has been shown to promote remineralization of demineralized enamel in our previous study. However, direct evidence of the effect of TRAP on the morphology and nanostructure of crystal growth on an enamel surface has not been reported. This study aimed to examine the effect of TRAP on the morphology of calcium phosphate crystals grown on early enamel erosion using a pH-cycling model. Methods: Eroded lesions were produced in human premolars by 30-second immersion in 37% phosphoric acid. Forty-five samples of eroded human premolar enamel blocks were selected and randomly divided into 3 groups: deionized water (DDW, negative control); 100 µg/mL TRAP, and 2 ppm sodium fluoride (NaF, positive control group). For 14 days, the specimens were exposed to a pH-cycling model. Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) methods, the surface morphology, calcium-phosphorus ratio, and enamel surface roughness were examined. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) were used to assess crystal characteristics. Results: After pH-cycling, compared to the two control groups, the surface of the eroded enamel of the peptide TRAP group shows a large number of new, densely arranged rod-like crystals, parallel to each other, regularly arranged, forming an ordered structure, with crystal morphology similar to that of natural enamel. The crystals are mostly hydroxyapatite (HA). Conclusion: This study demonstrates that the peptide TRAP modulates the formation of hydroxyapatite in eroded enamel and that the newly formed crystals resemble natural enamel crystals and promote the remineralization of enamel, providing a promising biomaterial for remineralization treatment of enamel lesions. Background: White spot lesions are a widespread undesirable effect, especially prevalent during fixed orthodontic treatments. The study compared the in vitro enamel remineralization potential of undemineralized dentin matrix (UDD) versus chicken eggshell powder (CESP) for artificially induced enamel lesions. Methods: 100 caries-free and sound maxillary premolars were randomly divided into four groups each contain 25 teeth: Group I (Baseline): No treatment was done to the enamel surface. Group II (Negative control): The enamel surface of the teeth underwent demineralization using demineralizing solution to create artificial carious lesions then kept in artificial saliva. Group III (CESP treated): After demineralizing the tooth surface, the teeth have been suspended in the CESP remineralizing solution. Group IV (UDD treated): After enamel demineralization, the teeth were suspended in UDD remineralizing solution. The remineralization potential was assessed by Vickers microhardness testing, scanning electron microscopic examination (SEM), and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). Results: The current study demonstrated an increase in the mean microhardness of CESP and UDD-treated groups; however, It was nearer to the baseline level in the UDD group. SEM imaging revealed greater enamel remineralization in the UDD group compared to the remaining groups. The UDD group disclosed complete coverage for the prismatic enamel compared to the CESP group, which revealed a partially remineralized enamel surface. Interestingly, the Ca/P ratio increased significantly in the CESP group compared to the negative control group. In contrast, a higher significant increase in the mean Ca/P ratios was recorded in the UDD group compared to the test groups. Background: The care of patient individuals in the good death process should be planned based on nursing values. The aim of the study is to determine nurses' perceptions of a good death and its relationship with nursing values. Methods: The study is descriptive and cross-sectional and was completed with 210 nurses. Data were collected using the Nurse Information Form, Good Death Scale, and Revised Nursing Professional Values Scale. In the study, an attempt was made to reach nurses across Türkiye over a three-month period using the snowball sampling method without calculating the sample size beforehand. Descriptive statistics, Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U test, LSD test, Spearman correlation and linear regression analyzes were used in the study. Results: The nurses' Good Death Scale total mean score was 53.52 ± 7.11, and The Revised Nursing Professional Values Scale mean score was 97.77 ± 15.71. There was a moderate, positive, statistically significant relationship between the nurses' Good Death Scale total mean scores and the Revised Nursing Professional Values Scale total mean scores (r = 0.522; p < 0.001). Background: The field of traditional medicine encompasses a wide range of knowledge, skills, and practices that are deeply rooted in the theories, beliefs, and experiences of different cultures. The research aimed to identify traditional medicinal plants used in Guraferda District and assess the threats they face. Method: A total of 96 individuals, 80 males and 16 females, were interviewed to gather ethnobotanical data. Statistical tests like independent t tests, ANOVA, correlation, and regression were conducted using R software version 4.3.2 to compare informant groups. Result: The study found 81 medicinal plant species in the district from 71 genera and 38 families, with Asteraceae and Solanaceae families having the most species. Leaves were the most commonly used plant part for medicine. Significant differences in plant knowledge were observed across genders, age groups, education levels, and experiences. The highest ICF value was for Dermal and Cutaneous ailments, and Cissampelos mucronata A. Rich and Bidens pilosa L. had the highest fidelity levels. Conclusion: The study highlighted the importance of traditional medicinal plants in treating ailments but noted threats like overharvesting, habitat destruction, and climate change. Conservation efforts and sustainable harvesting practices are crucial to ensure the availability of these plants for future generations. Background: Fentanyl is an opioid analgesic frequently used in the emergency department (ED) and is usually administered without knowing the QTC values of the patients or being monitored. However, the effect of fentanyl on QTC, prolongation or shortening, has not been elucidated. This study aimed to determine the effect of fentanyl on QTC. Methods: This is a prospective observational study in the ED of a tertiary hospital on patients who received intravenous fentanyl for procedures other than intubation. ECG was performed before and at 1, 5, 15, 30, and 60 min after the initiation of fentanyl administration, and QTC value was calculated. Primary outcomes were QTC prolongation, defined as an increase in the QTC to ≥ 500 ms or any increase in QTC by ≥ 60 ms. Results: The study included 109 patients. Of these, 60 patients were male, and the median age was 40. Compared with the baseline QTC value, statistically significant prolongation was detected at the 5th, 15th, 30th, and 60th minutes, with the maximum prolongation at 30 min, and the median was 13.08 ms. Most patients with QTC prolongation were female and over 40 years of age. Clinically, none of these patients developed malignant arrhythmias during the 60-minute monitored observation period. Conclusion: Fentanyl prolonged the QTC value statistically significantly. Although no patient developed malignant arrhythmia clinically, our results suggest that this QTC-prolonging effect should be considered when using fentanyl in patients at risk of torsades. Background: Sexual offenses encompass a diverse array of behaviors across various contexts, affecting numerous individuals. Despite the prevalence of sexual offending among adolescents, there is still a limited understanding of this population. To contribute further to the literature in this field, the present study was conducted to compare a group of male adolescents convicted of sexual offenses with a control group in terms of reflective functioning (RF), emotion regulation (ER) strategies, and emotion dysregulation (ED). Methods: 60 male adolescents aged 12 to 18 years (M = 16.90; SD = 0.97) who had been convicted of at least one serious sexual offense were recruited from male adolescents referred by juvenile courts to the Legal Medicine Organization in Mashhad, Iran, and compared with a control group of non-offending adolescents consisting of 60 male adolescents aged 12 to 18 years (M = 16.97; SD = 0.82) who were attending school. The groups were matched on age and education level. Results: A comparison between these two groups revealed that adolescents with a history of sexual offending exhibited poorer RF capacity, greater use of suppression as an ER strategy, and higher scores in all ED domains (p's < 0.001) except non-acceptance of emotional responses compared with the control group. Conclusions: Results suggest that RF, ER strategies, and ED need to be considered as important psychological factors in understanding and treating adolescents with a history of sexual offending. Background: Child maltreatment (CM) can have devastating and potentially lifelong effects for those affected and is a major contributor to mental health problems. To tackle public health problems it is crucial to have reliable data on CM. The aim of this study is to assess the prevalence and predictors of CM in a nationwide sample of the German population of young adults. Methods: The study population (young adults aged 18 to 31 years) stems from the KiGGS Cohort study, the longitudinal branch of the German Health Interview and Examination Survey for children and adolescents. This sample meets the criteria of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicator 16.2.3. The data was collected between 2014 and 2017. CM were assessed with the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) in. In addition, socio-demographic variables and other known risk factors for CM were assessed. A total of 6433 (47.8% female) participants were included in the analyses. Binary logistic regression analyses were used to investigate predictors of maltreatment subtypes. Ordinal regression was used to examine their association with experience of multiple forms of CM. Results: Overall, 18.4% (f: 20.9%, m: 16.1%) of the participants reported having experienced at least one type of CM; 6.7% (f: 8.8%, m: 4.8%) reported experiences of emotional abuse, 3.7% (f: 3.9%, m: 3.5%) physical abuse, 3.5% (f: 5.3%, m: 1.7%) sexual abuse, 9.0% (f: 9.9%, m: 8.2%) emotional neglect and 8.6% (f: 8.5%, m: 8.7%) physical neglect. Gender, subjective social status, education and household dysfunction (e.g. living with an individual who is using substances) emerged as significant predictors for different types of CM. Additionally, all these factors were significant risk factors for experiencing cumulative CM. Conclusions: CM is common in the German population, with almost one in five people experiencing at least one type of CM. The results reveal important risk factors for the occurrence of CM. In particular, people with lower social status and those who grew up in dysfunctional households are at higher risk of CM. Adolescents with callous unemotional (CU) traits are at risk for poor quality-of-life outcomes such as incarceration, suicide, and psychopathy. It is currently unknown which treatments are implemented with CU adolescents specifically and which elements make up these interventions. A narrative systematic review was used to identify the treatments and common elements used with CU adolescents (12–18 years). Eligible studies were randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies evaluating psychosocial interventions, delivered within a clinical context, and directed towards the adolescent or their family. Eight studies with 1291 participants were included. Significant decreases in CU traits were demonstrated only in a minority of studies. The most utilized practice elements were set goals for treatment, practice interpersonal/communication skills, prepare for termination, and teach parents skills and strategies; the most utilized process elements were formal therapy, practice exercises, important others, and flexible/adaptive. A majority of the studies did not report an implementation element. While theoretical frameworks for CU children are employed with CU adolescents, there is still uncertainty regarding their suitability for this age group. Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common diseases globally that may have side effects on liver and renal function. Pharmacological treatments to reduce adverse liver and renal effects are still limited. It has been proposed that silymarin may possess hepatoprotective and anti-inflammatory properties. The present trial aims to assess the hepatorenal protective efficacy of silymarin supplementation in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy in an outpatient setting. Method: This is a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial that recruited female breast cancer patients. Participants were randomly assigned to one placebo group and two intervention groups. The control group received 140 mg of placebo daily, while the two intervention groups received 140 mg silymarin daily. Follow-up assessments were conducted at baseline, 3 weeks, and 6 weeks. At the beginning of the study, the patients were subjected to a computed tomography (CT) scan, and the liver and renal parameters such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), bilirubin, Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and Creatinine (Cr) were examined through laboratory tests. Results: Despite two deaths and three dropouts, 100 patients completed the study. Silymarin showed significant effects on liver enzymes in the levels of ALP and bilirubin (P < 0.05), with no significant impact on renal function in the levels of Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and Creatinine (Cr) (P > 0.05). The medication was well-tolerated, with minimal reported side effects (P > 0.05). Discussion: The study suggests that silymarin may have hepato-renal protective potential in breast cancer patients and improve patient tolerance to chemotherapy. The data presented on the efficacy and safety of silymarin may provide stronger foundation for further trials and for a possible use in clinical practice. Introduction: Oligodontia is a rare dental developmental pathology that requires prolonged, complex and multidisciplinary treatment. Although bone augmentation is frequently required during a complete implant treatment of oligodontia. Therefore, we evaluated the ability to predict pre-implant surgery complexity based on age, number of missing teeth, and number of implants required to achieve implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation. Material and methods: This retrospectively registered study included all patients who underwent surgical treatment for oligodontia in our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department between January 2012 and May 2023. Demographic data, number and location of missing teeth, pre- and per-implant surgical procedures, and the number of planned implants were recorded. A quantitative variable called "complexity score of pre-implant surgery" was created. This 10-point score was calculated by adding one point for each preimplant surgical procedure registered. A simple linear regression was calculated to explain the number of targeted implants based on number of missing teeth. A multiple linear regression model was used to explain the complexity score of pre-implant surgery and age, number of missing teeth and number of targeted implants. Results: 119 oligodontia patients were included in the study. The median number of tooth agenesis was 10. A total of 825 implants were placed, 14 (1.7%) of which failed. A significant regression equation was used (F(1,118) = 1098,338; p < 0.0001) to explain the number of targeted implants based on number of missing teeth, with a R2 of 0.903. A significant regression equation was found (F(3,116) = 107,229; p < 0.0001) to explain the complexity score of pre-implant surgery and age, number of missing teeth and number of targeted implants, with a R2 of 0.735. Discussion: These results based on patient data indicate that age, number of missing teeth and number of targeted implants could reliably explain the complexity of pre-implant surgery.
