Background: In the recent years, Micelles represent a promising carrier for the treatment and diagnosis of cancer. Architecturally, micelles are self-assembled nanosized colloidal aggregates prepared from amphiphilic surfactant with a hydrophobic core and hydrophilic shell. Such a composition makes them a potential carrier for delivery of hydrophobic anticancer drugs with in their core., Methods: Micelles have received increasing interest as an enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) targeted drug delivery systems for cancer treatment. Micelles can be modified to contribute various attractive properties, for instance, active targeting, stimuli-responsiveness. They have also proven their ability in drug targeting to tumor tissue, enhanced drug accumulation, drug stabilization, tissue penetration, prolong circulation, in vivo biocompatibility, biodegradability and reduced side effects. Micelles have displayed a vital role in multidrug delivery for cancer therapy., Results and Discussion: The aim of the present review is to provide an overview on the status of micellar nanoformulations for anticancer agents, including their pre-clinical and clinical researches. Emphasis is placed on presenting the newer strategies to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of anticancer drug at the target site. The main objective in the development of nanomedicine is to obtain delivery platforms for targeted delivery of drugs or imaging agents for improved therapeutic efficacy, reduced side effects and increased diagnostic sensitivity. A (nano)material class that has been recognized for its controllable properties on many levels is ordered mesoporous inorganic materials, typically in the form of amorphous silica (SiO2). Characteristics for this class of materials include mesoscopic order, tunable pore dimensions in the (macro)molecular size range, a high pore volume and surface area, the possibility for selective surface functionality as well as morphology control. The robust but biodegradable ceramic matrix moreover provides shelter for incorporated agents (drugs, proteins, imaging agents, photosensitizers) leaving the outer particle surface free for further modification. The unique features make these materials particularly amenable to modular design, whereby functional moieties and features may be interchanged or combined to produce multifunctional nanodelivery systems combining targeting, diagnostic, and therapeutic actions. This review covers the latest developments related to the use of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) as nanocarriers in biomedical applications, with special focus on cancer therapy and diagnostics.

The efficacy of drug delivery systems using nanoparticles to enhance the pharmacokinetic properties of drugs has been confirmed in both preclinical trials and clinical settings. A nanosized drug system has improved efficacy, reduced side effects and clearance, increased cellular uptake and prolonged time in circulation. This article will focus recent studies of the pharmacokinetic behavior of such systems as poly(ethylene glycol) and polyamidoamine. Their derivatives are also analyzed. Additionally, some diseases with very good responsiveness are aslo reported.
