The article focuses on artificial intelligence (AI) and human-computer interaction (HCI). In the beginning, HCI focused more on empirical approaches to usability and human factors, which aim to make machines more useful for human beings. The authors discuss natural language processing as an intersection between AI and HCI. According to them, human translators are using the output of machine translation systems like Google Translate into their work. J.C.R. Licklider's research paper "Man-Computer Symbiosis," discusses introduction of human factors in computing.
