This article reports that the 1982 National Computer Conference (NCC) lived up to its theme of "Advancing Professionalism" as a record-breaking crowd of over 93,000 jammed the Astrohall and Astroarena in Houston, Texas to attend the technical sessions led by well-known experts and to see the latest in computer products, services, and publications. According to general chairman Russell K. Brown, the conference was designed to be of interest to everyone in academia industry, and government users and designers, professionals and hobbyists. The 86 technical sessions were organized into eight tracks: hardware and computer architecture; software engineering; personal computing; social and organizational implications; office systems; decision support and management issues; language and database processing; and applications. Howard L. Morgan, NCC program chairman, noted that the wide spectrum of sessions, panels, and papers provided coverage of all major aspects of the field.
